Chiang Mai City and Temples Half-Day Tour

The city of Chiang Mai has a wealth of beautiful and historic Buddhist Wats (temples), 36 Wats within the old city walls and many more in the surrounding countryside. Near the summit of Doi Suthep, a 5300 feet peak named after the hermit Sudeva who lived on the mountain's slopes for many years, is the 600 year old temple of Wat Phrathat Doi Suthep.
After a drive up the mountain's winding road, the final climb to the site is via an enormous mythological Nagas (Dragon-headed serpent) staircase of 306 steps. On a clear day, there are incomparable views over the city of Chiang Mai from the temple grounds.
Wat Chedi Luang consists of an impressive chedi, originally built in 1411. It reached a height of over 278 feet before it was partially destroyed by an earthquake in 1545. It now reaches a height of 196 feet. The temple also contains the city pillar. Statue in small shelters surrounding this building are the home of guardian spirits.
Not my favorite experience, but it was interesting.

This tour was OK. The guide didn't seem to know much English and had difficulty answering our questions. The temples were good but would have been improved by a better guide. It is good that it was a short tour.

The tour guide didnt have much to say, was very quiet and had poor English. It was just me and my sister on this tour and after giving us some brief info he let us walk around freely whilst he waited for us. I felt like I would have liked a bit more background info. Pick up and drop off were on time. The driver managed the conditions on the mountain fine but drove a bit fast at times. The sites themselves were good but explanations were very brief.

A very fun and informative tour. Our tour guide A Tin was great. He was very attentive to my needs as I have a cane and helped me see as much as I could and at my pace. Loved going up to the temple on the Mountain top. There are 200 temples in Chang Mai. This tour covered the ones on my bucket list. I recommend this tour if you don't have all day to spend.

Our guide, was a very professional person, great english,very friendly and approachable.she explained everything,she created a very nice atmosphere for all of us in the group, excellent driver the minibus was very clean.Thanks to the excellent organizational skills of our guide we had time to see and explore everything,enough time for lunch as well.With regards to the places that we visited,each and every one was worth visiting, very nice places full of energy and historical background.This excursion is highly recommended of you want to escape for a while from the busy city centre of Chiang Mai

Our guide showed up three hours early we just happened to be at the hotel about to get lunch, so we agreed to start. The tour then took 4.5 hours not 3, which would be fine if it was something we were enjoying.

Very good way to get a glimpse of the culture and religion in Chiang Mai. Despite the pouring rain, we were able to visit all the sights. However, due to the cool weather, the fog in Wat Doi Suthep was so thick that you could not see the famous city overview. Very good tour!

Alex was our guide on this tour and he was exceptional. My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed this tour of the 3 temples in Chiang Mai and we were fortunate to witness a ceremony at 2 of the city temples whilst there. We would definitely recommend this tour for visitors to Chiang Mai.

This is a short wonderful tour that highlights the wonderful city of Chiang Mai. Can and #39;t remember our guides name but she was efficient and very knowledgeable. It was a group of 5 total so that made the tour more enjoyable

Good tour, knowledgeable guide. We also visited the silk and silver factories as part of the tour which was ok but not my favorite part of the tour. I probably would have spent more time learning about the temples.

The 3 temples we visited were beautiful. However the tour guide often walked off from the 4 of us and was not very engaging. We had to ask questions to get information about the temples and the areas.

The tour was interesting. We saw three temples. Tour guild spoke good English and gave us bits of information on the van between places, however if you were looking for a more in depth history well on the temple grounds I would go with a private tour. We just walked the temple grounds on our own. Glad it was only a half day tour.

The tour was ok. The tour guide seemed bored and uninterested in explaining the various facts abut Chiang Mai. I would recommend visiting the temples on your own. Take a cab and go directly to the Wats in the morning, as afternoon traffic is intense.

Our tour was rushed because we went on a bad day with a lot of traffic from the college students walking up the hill to the hilltop temple. Therefore it left us about 15 minutes to see the other 2 temples in the city.

Maggie, our tour guide, was wonderful. She had so much information to share. Really gave us an understanding of each of the temples we visited. We especially loved the Wat Phra That Doi Suthep. Breathtaking. We also learned a lot about Buddha. Our driver was gracious, providing water and umbrellas when necessary. I highly recommend this tour.

So many temples to choose from Chiang Mai really is the city of temples, but the 3 we visited were very interesting indeed. Knowledgable and friendly guide, good transport to and from our hotel. A good half-day tour, recommended!

Very informative 1/2 day tour of Chiang Mai temples. The guide was on-time and knowledgeable about all temples visited. Doi suthep was the highlight and the climb up the snake staircase to the top is well worth it if you can. Would not hesitate to recommend this tour to others.

Too few sights seen in the 5 hours. Guide too intense and lengthy about some topics religion for one, could have spent the time better. At least 2 more sights could have been accommodated if the guide had been more focused and more precise. By the second hour wanted to continue without the guide.

We only seen 2 temples and were then taken to a shop where they tried to force us to buy things. The tour guide did the minimum. She took us to the temples then said meet me outside when youre done. Unlike other tours where we were shown around and given information on the sights.

Really well planned and our guide's English was excellent. We did not walk up to Doi Sethup but went up in a lift and walked down the many steps. Fasinating tour which included hearing the monks chant.
