Traditional Khantoke Dinner and Show from Chiang Mai

Chiang Mai, Thailand

Enjoy an evening out by having a Khantoke Dinner, the customary northern Thai style of eating with food being served in large platters at low tables while you sit on mats on the floor.

As you enjoy your meal, let yourself be entertained by a selection of northern cultural performances including the charming Fon Lep (Thai Finger Dance), Ram Dab (Thai Sword Dance), Fon Thiean (Thai Candle Dance), and Ram Wong (Group Dance).

To end the evening, there is a special hilltribe show performed by various members of Yao, Lahu, Meo, Lisu, and Karen hilltribe.

I must say I was a bit disappointed with the dinner, while I was booking the dinner I was under the impression that we are all going to sit on the floor as a traditional way of eating this Khantoke dinner. However there were limited seats on the floor, with the remaining by tables - I'd much rather prefer to sit on the the floor. I don't think this was explained clearly.

Fun time sitting on the floor mats and trying these foods. Unfortunately, we were dropped off just before the dancing started so we didn't get to enjoy our food before the dancing started. The sound system was so poor we were not able to hear and understand the announcer who was explaining each of the dances. A printed program would have been helpful._br/_ Beautiful dancers and accomplished musicians.

Had a good experience on this tour. The dinner and show is outdoors at the Chiang Mai Cultural Centre. I think the default is to seat you on the floor with Thai-style cushions the seating areas are already laid out according to the booking sizes, but a few others who shared my pickup asked to be moved to a table and this didn't seem a problem.

We're sure it would've been a nice experience if we had been picked up. Since our hotel wasn't on the list, we chose one not too far as it was directed on the site. We waited at the nearby hotel at the pick up time for about an hour just to be sure, but no one came to pick us up. No one could be contacted and we weren't given an address of the destination.

Fully enjoyed this evening... amazing food even though it seemed to be served in a rushed manner.... the dancers and costumes were outstanding and such a varied program that was completed outside..... sorry the tourist souvenir tables closed up so quickly after...._br/_ Sandra

The performance was average. We have seen a whole lot better in Thailand. The food was OK, but having to sit on the floor wd awkward and painfull. We moved to a table after a while.

For those with back problems, this type of dinner show might not be the best for you. You have to sit on cushions on a carpeted floor around the dance floor where after dinner, there are folk dances. My legs were getting numb and my back hurting so I requested the manager to seat us on a regular table which he obliged. The food was average and the show fairly long. For some, the dances may be entertaining but I noticed that the audience were slowly getting up and leaving because their interest may have been lost. I would rate this a 3.

Fabulous food and entertainment - for the whole family. We felt immersed in the culture of Chiang Mai! Lovely driver to pick us up and drop us back to our hotel.

Very rustic and basic. The food was bland and the seating on the floor was very uncomfortable. The traditional dancing was not interesting and the descriptions of the cultural significance of the dances were difficult to hear over the noise of the dinners. The pickup was very good, on time and ready to depart at the end of the dinner/show.

I was so very disappointed in this trip. Pick up was scheduled and I was picked up on time however when we got to the facility everyone was already halfway through their meals. I was solo so was seated completely alone I booked this thinking I would be interacting with other guests and my meal was served nearly immediately as the show started. I was eating while watching the show - which was ok others were still eating as well. You do sit on the floor but it's not uncomfortable. The food is very good. You do have to buy a drink at additional cost. The dancers were wonderful and I really enjoyed them. The MC could not be heard or understood. After the dinner and show - they have you go outside to watch some fun stuff don't want to spoil it for you. Then you are ushered back to the van and delivered back to your pick up point. I wouldn't do this one again. I could see that families with children would really enjoy it - they do let the kids come on the stage to dance.

I enjoyed the food and cultural show. The tour company picked us up on time. The dinner was nice and to my surprise, they refill the food as long want to eat more drinks not included. Two ladies walk around and snapped a picture with us. Later sell the photo with frame for 100bhat, which I thought was worth it.

Ok, but not amazing. The food itself was not the best compared to the other things we ate during our visit. The dances are interesting and (for the most part) entertaining. Hotel pick-up and drop-off was excellent. Worth doing but not at the cost of other activities.

While in Chiang Mai, we've been to two Khantoke Dinner/Show, this by far is the better of the two. We were picked up at our hotel on time by a friendly and polite driver. The dinner setting was intimate, the food was amazing and plenty - they were even so kind to accommodate my food allergies. My boyfriend received the usual menu and I had my own tray of deliciously modified food! : I am really thankful for that because with my allergies, it's very hard to find a place to eat - but they've been very kind, caring and understanding. While we were having our dinner, musicians played their traditional musical instruments - the music set the mood. Later, the dancers came and performed on stage - I'm sure no matter where you sit, you will get a good view of the show. The other place we went to was so huge that we were straining our necks to see the dancers performed - at it was a very short show, whereas here, not only that were treated to a wonderful show inside the hall, we were also ushered outside to see more dances complete with fire dance and fireworks!!! The servers were very attentive and polite. Everything about this place is excellent and I appreciate the extra care they've given to us. THIS IS HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

This was a fun little night that we both enjoyed as a couple. The pickup and drop off service was good and prompt. We were ushered in and had a surprisingly tasty meal with unlimited refills for everything !!. The seating was good if you get a ground sit and hopefully a good view. The show itself is good but nothing amazing. It was a traditional song and dance show, and there were a few things that were really cool but it's fairly tame for the most part. Don't go into expecting dazzling fire and dancing.

We had front and center seats. It was all pretty much how I expected... a nice peek into the culture of Chiang Mai through food, music, dance, and related performances. Please do not be disappointed if it does not seem professional to you. It is authentic in many ways... real Thai people, presenting/sharing their Thai culture to you. We also enjoyed the dinner provided. If you do not want to miss the final performance, make sure to make your way out towards the entrance without too much delay. We missed most of it due to potty breaks for the kids. :-

Driver got us there late, after the show had started, due to the fact that he couldn't find another hotel where he had to pick up more guests. Dinner plentiful and show good but a little short.

Our pick up did not arrive to pick us and we waited for 1.30 hrs. We tried to call the contact number while waiting but there's no answer at all. I had wrote in to make the complain but there's no reply.

The Show was amazing, but the service for the food was horrible. We were seated in a separate area with the local people and it took about 10 minutes to be served the food, the another 10 minutes to receive the bottled waters.

The food is so delicious and there's so much of it. The only thing was that I felt a little isolated from other people because I came solo so I they put me on a mat away from other people. I really enjoyed the show and afterwards seeing the tribal dances. It was a wonderful evening.

This was a great tour that included all you can eat dishes, traditional Northern Thai dances and, because of the Loi Kathong festival, an opportunity to light lanterns in the restaurant's parking lot.

The food was mediocre and the dances were painfully boring. People in the audience fell asleep including people in my own party.

Nice environment and great food. Dances are very elegant to watch. _br/_ Alcoholic drinks are double cost anywhere else._br/_ Tour company came to our hotel the day before and confirmed pick up time. They arrived on time and took us back quickly after the dinner. Picked up at 7:30 PM and were back at the hotel by 9:30._br/_ Inside and air conditioned. _br/_ If you are not very flexible there are tables rather than the floor.

The evening was okay.... Not something I would do again._br/_ Food was average, plenty of it thou and the staff were happy to bring more if needed. We both felt a bit ill that night and the next day, not really sure if it was from this food?_br/_ The dancing was well presented and the costumes were beautiful.

Really cool way to experience some Thai culture. All you can eat Khantoke meal which was amazing. Dances, music, and even a surprise to end the night outside. Local merchants set up a market outside in the Chiang Mai Cultural Center as well.

Food was good, people were friendly. The dances inside were nice, but we had really wanted to see the hill tribe dances and costumes. That part of the program is outside and we got rained out! I wish that we could have moved to another indoor area that was disappointing.

Pick up on time and taken directly to the dinner and show, authentic meal with large servings and dances during dinner then a second show outside after dinner showcasing a number of different cultures, a highlight of my visit to the city

Quite Disappointed - expected spectacular food and lots of different tastes. A table is put down in front of you with around 6 dishes, this is followed by melon. Sorry but I always find melon or fruit selection very uninspiring and a cop out. I expected different dished to continue to arrive. The dancing show was very amateur and too long. However the village displays outside were interesting.

Excellent time on this tour. Guide picked us up from our hotel lobby on time. Show was beautiful and food was plentiful and delicious. Really enjoyed the outdoor portion of the show as well as the opportunity to shop for local wares outside of the Old Chiangmai cultural center where the show is set.

Food was served cold, not surprising considering the amount of people being served at this event. The dancers were ok. I wouldn't recommend this to a friend, although it was fairly inexpensive.

Spend your money on something else. They sat us at a table. Well the reason for booking was for_br/_ the experience of the Khantoke dinner sitting on the floor not the table. after I got mad they found room._br/_ The whole entire event was boring and the food not so good.

This tour started really nice. The dances in the beginning were lovely and the food was good. The 2nd part of the show was moved to another area closeby but it was not professional at all. If you are ready to pay for the first part of the show, the food and the atmosphere then it is fine. The total time was about 1.5 hours.

The food was fabulous! And bonus it was attached to our hotel! We were seated quite quickly and had a fantastic view until more people arrived and they set up more tables right in our line of site. The food was delicious and they kept bringing us more as soon as we were out. We didn't end up staying the whole time as we wanted to spend a lot of time at the night market and that wasn't a problem

Definitely, it is one of the best options in Chiang Mai. A very friendly and welcoming atmosphere everywhere. A traditional Thai dinner, great food and great variety in a very pleasant environment. The show proved to be magnificent. The shuttle service from and to the hotel was excellent. Without a doubt, it was a night full of enjoyment.

This tour was an ok experience. The food provided was mostly fried and as a result a bit oily. The food was unlimited so if you are a fan of fried food you will enjoy this tour. Drinks were not provided on this tour and some of the food was quite spicy. The show was also quite slow even though there were about 6 segments of the show. The show consisted mainly of traditional Thai dances, which after awhile were quite redundant that is the same dances seemed to be done over and over again with slight costume changes. If you are a fan of Thai dancing and fried food, this tour is for you, but in my opinion this was not a must see.

Brilliant evening with amazing food and entertainment. It was quite an experience sitting on the floor to eat but good fun! The food was wonderful and all tastes were catered for, with staff constantly re filling the dishes! The costumes and dancing was most enjoyable and definitely value for money!
