Ronda and Tajo Gorge Day Trip from the Costa del Sol

Costa del Sol, Spain

Discover the beautiful mountainous region of Ronda on a relaxing day trip from Costa del Sol. See the main landmarks of the town of Ronda, including the Plaza de Toros bullring and its museum. With your guide, visit the Plaza de España, Ronda's main square, and the Church of the Holy Spirit. Admire views of the breathtaking background scenery created by El Tajo gorge, which splits the town into old and new districts, and see Puente Nuevo, the bridge that connects the two. Finish with a guided tour of a local winery and enjoy a sample of local Spanish wine.

Meet your local guide in a centrally located pick up points in Costa del Sol and relax on a comfortable air-conditioned coach on the drive to Ronda. Take in views of the Andalusian countryside on the way, as the scenery changes from coastal to mountainous.

When you arrive in Ronda, discover the picturesque town that spans over the plunging El Tajo River gorge. See the impressive Puente Nuevo, an 18th-century bridge which connects Ronda's old and new districts. As your guide explains interesting details about Ronda and its surroundings, visit the Plaza de España, the town’s main square, then discover the Church of St Mary the Elder and the 15th-century Church of the Holy Spirit.

Continue to the Plaza de Toros, Spain's oldest bullring that has staged very important events in bullfighting history. Visit the bullring's own museum to learn more about bullfighting from the collection of memorabilia, including photos of famous bullfighting fans, such as Ernest Hemingway and Orson Welles.

Next, head to the wine cellar Bodegas La Sangre de Ronda to enjoy a guided tour of the winery. As you wander around the cellar, learn about Spanish wines and sample a local wine.

After your wine tasting, have free time in Ronda to explore more on our own and enjoy a Andalusian tapas at a local restaurant (own expense), before you head back to Costa del Sol.

Guide was upset with us for not a Reception when we were in the Marriott Reception not at the gate. No one told us that we were to meet the tour bus at the gate. He was rude when we got on the bus and never apologized during the tour. He did a great job of the tour in Ronda and true pleasure to visit.

It was a great tour. Ronda is beautiful and full of history. There was an incident I would like to bring to your attention to prevent it from happening again. At the end of the tour, the tour guide left with those that had purchased the lunch option. There was an elderly French couple in their eighties that didn't know how to get back to the meeting point. The elderly woman was in tears, so my husband and I had to ask an interpreter from another tour company who spoke French to explain to her and her disabled husband that we will make sure they will make it back to the bus on time. We had lunch with them and stayed with them until we got back on the bus.The point I'm trying to get across is that the tour guide should have taken the time to make sure that the elderly couple understood how to get back to the meeting point before leaving for lunch.

The tour guide really didn't have much useful information to share. She seemed most concerned with sticking to a timeline and taking us from place to place rather than sharing background/information about the beauty and history of Ronda. In effect, it was basically just a ride to Ronda and at that point, we probably would've been better off doing a self-guided tour with our own guide books. At least that way, we could've gone at our own pace and really absorbed everything we had hoped to see and learn about this beautiful part of Spain.

the old town of Ronda was very nice, however too much free time given in the city center 2,5-3 hours. that was way too much as that is basically 1 street only and not nice at all. The guide was terrible. He was an old dude and spoke English, Spanish and German. His English was really bad, and his German just terrible. I speak both languages but I still had a hard time to get what he was trying to say in any of those languages. Sometimes I understood some words in German, than others in English and tried to find out what he wanted to tell. He was also quite rude, he did not smile at all. Not once during the day.

Rhonda is very picturesque. Paco the tour guide was rude, mean and unhelpful. We were the last to be picked up and they were no 2 seats left together. He said too bad. I was nauseous from the curvy ride and Paco said too bad. He was telling everyone on the bus to be silent as if we are children.

The tour of Ronda was good although the stopover in Malaga was unnecessary. The journey to and from Ronda was also very long due to the number of pick-ups and drop-offs.

Not unexpectedly it was tiresome to make so many stops before heading up to Ronda. Also the extended stop on the return was unneeded. Most just wanted to get back to their hotels. The trip itself though was great, and the guide was very good. The driver was very skillful. The guide had good information and suggested a very good restaurant before we headed back.

Loved the sightseeing. The free time allowed was too short to allow for shopping and eating lunch and had to rush back to meet the bus. Otherwise I loved it.

Do not book this tour if you are being picked up in Malaga. For a twelve hour experience, only four hours was actually on the tour of Ronda. We were picked up in a central point (not our hotel) in Malaga. We proceeded to pick up people from their hotels for the next 2.5 hrs. Then traveled to Ronda. We were picked up at 7 AM and arrived at Ronda at 11 AM. The tour guide did not even begin talking or any kind of communication with us until 9:30 and then had very few things to say. At the end of the day I asked if the Malaga people could get dropped closer to the hotel (about 5 minutes drive from drop off) and they said no. This means that we had additional 20 minutes walk to the hotel where as all the other passengers were dropped at their hotel. I do not recommend this tour because I could have bought a bus ticket to Ronda and read Wikipedia and would have had a much better experience. Ronda is worth a visit, especially if a fan of Hemingway or bull fighting, but this tour was excruciating.

What a great treasure to vista! Ronda was everything I expected it to be and more. The views from the mountain tops and Tajo Gorge are fabulous. Also, the Bullring and Bodega were wonderful additions to the whole day! Our guide was interesting and had lots of fun facts about the city itself. Highly recommended.

Fabulous. Don't drive yourself, it is quite high up with very low guard rails. Let professionals do the driving. Very good tour with a wonderful guide who did a few extra things with us. Great history and views.

Bitter disappointment and felt tricked. The tour stops at the Ronda winery that lets you taste a sip of the wine. They have a small shop and the shop assistant tricked me. I was looking at two glass wine stoppers when the shop assistant took them out of my had quickly and tried to ring up the till. I took the of fof her and said I was still looking but she rushed me. In the end I selected two but she kept taking them out of my hand every time I wanted to open the little box to take a closer look at them. Later I found out why. Both where broken and could not be fixed. The shop assistant clearly knew this and rushed me into buying them without checking properly they weren't broken, she kept saying, 'it's busy and your tour might leave soon.' Felt VERY TRICKED - waste of 24 euros. Obviosuly you can't go back and get a refund. BE WARNED.

Having been the day before on a Seville tour we were already aware of what sort of tour to expect. Again we spent 3 hours picking up people from different hotels from very early morning. 10 min before getting to Ronda we finally had a 20 min break. We were traveling with our 2 year old daughter and there was another couple with 2 small kids so we were really looking forward to finally getting out of that bus for a little break. This time we were going to be divided into 2 groups: English-German and Spanish-French, we thought ourselves lucky that even though we asked for a guided tour in English we could also speak Spanish and that group was smaller but once we arrived in Ronda the lady took off with the Spanish-French people. We never heard neither of the guide say anything to separate the groups when we got off the bus so end up stuck with the bigger group. Fortunately this time our guide Paco explain a lot and said more of Ronda than our guide in Seville but repeated himself so many times that it was a bit of a nightmare hearing the same thing over and over again in each 4 languages. We loved Ronda and Paco himself was pretty good taking us around. We had a lovely lunch but didn't have time to have a bit of a walk around on ourselves. When we got bak to the pick up point the bus was already there. Even though Paco said in 4 different languages to sit back in the same seats we found a couple on our seats and Paco not helping send us to the back of the bus. I found them a bit inconsiderate specially with us who have the kids that every time had to pick the pushchair and place the kids, they most of the time left us behind i.e when on our way back we stop at Marbella to see the statues of Dali, even though we move fast to keep up when we looked around we couldn't see anyone from the group and have to ask a local where the statues were. Once back on the bus we haven even reach our last seat at the back of the bus and the bus was already moving.

If we did stay in Torremolinos, this trip would be prohibitive. People who stayed there said, that it took them more then 2 hours to get to Marbella, where we got on the bus. This is how many stops they ewe making. The bus was full, the driver's English was very limited with poor diction - he was hard to understand. He also was repeating the info at least in 3 languages, which I don't think is even legal. I was told that 2 languages are permissible, but not more. Bus stops in unnecessary locations to facilitate sale of souvenirs and such to the tour participants._br/_ Ronda is nice but is not a must to see.

Fabulous vistas of the countryside, the bridge over the gorge and the sections of town perched on the cliffs. The bullring was well worth the visit, too. It would have been nice to have more free time in the town - particularly as we had an unnecessary coffee and toilet break both coming and going - we were only 15 minutes out of Ronda both times!

Ronda and Tajo Gorge are definitely worth seeing. I would not recommend this tour format nor the guide from Isabel tours. We spend over 2 hours picking people up at hotels and another two hours repeating the process at the end of the tour. This tour would greatly benefit by having a few central meeting points and spending more time at the tour site. The other problem is the consollidation of multiple language people. Every sentence gets repeating in multiple languages and is hard to listen to. She never spoke to the group during the morning pick up process to explain what towns we were passing through or how long it would take to reach our destination. Instead she droned on quite loudly and continuously on her cell-phone pretty much ignoring the miserable lot of us on the bus. When she did speak, our guide's English was difficult to understand over the intercom. I never could get her name. In Ronda, she spent excessive tiime at shop windows rather than cultural sights and was late meeting the group at the assigned time after a visit to the bull Ring. This was particularly ironic and rude since she had warned everyone repeatedly that she would leave stragglers behind if they did not show up on time.

Ronda and the Tajo Gorge were fantacstic but the waiting around while picking up and dropping off other passengers was a pain. In hindsight, we should have organised our own travel using the trains and we would have had more time to see things. Not sure if I would do another bus tour like this again. There are people who will prefer to do a tour as it is a bit cheaper and you don't have to think about the travel.

We enjoyed our trip to Ronda but being on a tour where the guide had to explain everything in four languages took away our concentration . Our guide's main topic was how many rich people live in Marbella._br/_ To be honest we did not enjoy our guide.

Lovely place to go and would recommend the trip. Presumably because it was November we started from Fuengirola and were then dropped off in Marbella (which we had been to the previous day) for 40 minutes whilst the coach picked up in that area. I was not expecting that but the trip up to Ronda was beautiful. Our guide had a bad throat and it was not always easy to hear what she was saying. There a plenty of places to have lunch in the town of Ronda. Overall I am glad we did this tour.

The views were beautiful and we enjoyed visiting bullring and the history associated to it. Our major complaint was that the tour company did not mention until we were all on the tour bus that it would be 10 degrees colder up in Ronda. A little late don't you think? It was shorts weather down at Costa del Sol. Although my husband and I were dressed appropriately, we felt terrible for the others who were in shorts and t-shirts and sandals.

My husband and I loved Ronda. It was one of our favorite places we visited. It isn't as "touristy"/busy as Seville/Granada and our guide was very good. The city was much easier to navigate then others, I just wish there was a little more free time!

Ronda was beautiful. Bus driver awesome, tour guide was a grumpy jerk and threatened to leave my family mid way because my son had to take a bathroom break. Ronda itself, was a breathtaking and wonderful place to visit.

Ronda is BEAUTIFUL! A short trip hardly feels like enough. Our tour was "bi-lingual" which meant a lot of standing around for the other translation when you'd rather be seeing all the sites! But if you can't get here on your own and spend 2 or 3 days, this is a good quick trip. The guide is knowledgeable and the narrative is witty and informative. It's just hard to resist wandering off on your own so you can walk down to the bottom of the gorge...

This was an excellent trip. The bus picked us up at our hotel on time. There are a number of other pick ups after us so you have to be patient. We stopped for a coffee break on the way up and then headed to Rondo. What a beautiful little town. We bought wine at the wine shop and brought it home, it was delicious! Highly recommended. Got picked up at 7:45 am and back to our hotel at 6:30 pm.

If you are a young couple, travelling with young children or have trouble with lots of walking I probably wouldn't recommend this tour. The highlight for me was looking at the gorge and taking some good pictures. Buses are not allowed into Ronda so the whole tour is a walking tour. We saw 3 churches but were only allowed into one of them. We went to a wine cellar where you could taste some wine, but it was help yourself from a tap on the wall and you weren't actually told anything about the wine. The bull ring made some good pics, but we didn't actually really find it that interesting as there wasn't much to see. Then we had an hour and a half free time at a time in the day when most of the shops shut for siestas. I probably wouldn't have gone on this tour if I knew what I know now considering it takes up the whole day. Even though our bus broke down 10 mins out of the town (but were able to hop on other tour buses to take us the rest of the way), our tour guide was friendly and the buses were comfortable. However, if your looking for a pretty little white town to visit, I would recommend Benalmedana Pueblo.

This tour could be wonderful but we did it *under the rain* completely. We got wet, then we had to walk about 15 minutes by ourselves to find the mootorcoach as the driver and tour guide parked too far. Was terrible to walk too much with wet clothes.

Ronda was beautiful, and although the guide was very knowledgeable, i believe he made a pit stop to run some errands in Marbella -- giving us an unexpected half-hour to roam around and extending an already long day even longer. Also, he had the bus driver drop him off at his car or destination before the trip was over and we were on the bus without a tour guide. Very unprofessional.

Again, rating it a "3" because of tour guild, but for different reason. Our tour guide was not the most friendly person. The 5 different languages really were unpleasant to listen through.
