Archeological Park of Sacsayhuaman Half-Day Tour

Archeological Park of Sacsayhuaman Half-Day Tour

Cusco, Peru

Experience the impressive Incan architecture of the ancient fortress and temple at the archeological park of Sacsayhuaman. See the Tower of Pucca Pucara and discover the source of spring water, a stone labyrinth and a fortress made of mysteriously massive stones. The spectacular archeological sites which surround Cusco are a true mark of Incan heritage and culture and a must-see when visiting Peru.

From Cusco, you'll drive up the mountains for 10 minutes to visit the nearby archeological sites. Your first stop will be Tambomachay, a source of spring water that is believed to be worshiped by the Incans. Although uncertain of the function of Tambomachay or "The Bath of the Inca", many believe it could have served as a spa for the elite Incan leaders. The site remains spiritual and the water still flows today.

Next, you'll visit the remains of Qenqo, a stone made labyrinth with a sacrificial altar in its center. Consisting of staircases and channels, the site of Qenqo is believed to have held many Incan rituals.

Continue on to the famous park of Sacsayhuaman where you can enjoy a wonderful panoramic view of Cusco. Sacsayhuaman boasts impressive Incan design and artwork with massive stones over 9 meters (30 feet) tall and weighing up to 125 tons. Many of the stones have peculiar placement and designs, such as the condor, puma and snake which represented the three Incan worlds.

Your last stop will be at the Tower of Puca Pucara, within the archeological compound of Sacsayhuaman. Admire its architectural magnificence and clear detail of rooms, water springs, waterways and aqueducts before returning to your Cusco hotel.

Our time with Yuber and driver Jimmy was incredible. The entire process was professional and courteous. Yuber is brilliant - his knowledge of Cusco, the Quechua people and Incan history was endless. This was just the tour we desired in order to learn more about the Inca Ruins around the city of Cusco. If you love history, archaeology and architecture this tour is for you!! A great supplement to our time at Machu Picchu.

This tour was a complete waste of money. It was a very small group so I thought the guide would take it slow and allow plenty of time for pictures, but he basically rushed us through Tambomachay and Qenko and at Saksaywaman spend more time at the view point than at the ruins. The only site he gave us time at was Puka Pukara, and it was probably only because he saw me wander off on my own. _br/_ Our guide, Hector, knew almost no history about these places, stated inaccurate facts and spend most of the time talking about Llamas and corn with the other clients, instead of about the history of the places we were visiting._br/_ I asked him about the battle at Saksaywaman that took place between the Spanish and the Inca, just to see if he knew about it, and he just laughed and completely ignored my question and went to take pictures of the other people in our group. Instead of spending more time at the ruins, he took us to a stupid sweater factory, actually more like a sweater shop, for 20 minutes, which wasn't even listed as part of the itinerary. _br/_ We were so disappointed, we ended up going back to Saksaywaman the next day by ourselves and discovered new parts of the site he didn't take us to._br/_ The only reason we booked this tour in the first place, is because we read stories about crime at the ruins. Once we found out how safe it was, we ended up visiting several other sites by taxi._br/_ Don't take this tour. Better to hire a taxi for a few hours and see the ruins at your own pace.

Recommend to do this tour in Cusco. Cusco is such a beautiful city with so much to do. This site takes you to the best picture spot of the city. You also go to other archeological sites with the tour guide explaining each and every one. You will also stop at a silver/alpaca store to buy authentic and real items.

Great tour with a knowledgeable guide! Given the amount of time we had in the area the 4 hour tour was perfect. If I return to the area, I will do the longer tour as am really interested in the history and wanted to see and know more.

thanks to viator not getting the start time of this tour right, they said 9 when it really starts at 8, I held the group up for almost 30 minutes. because of this, the tour was rushed and I had about 3 minutes to get ready for the tour as it completely caught me offguard starting an hour earlier than what viator listed. do not trust viator for tour start times. other people have also noted this issue with viator in my same group of people I went on this tour with. this is one of the first tours I've ever booked through viator and I'm not so sure I'll ever do it again. the tour itself though was ok, but if you want to spend a decent amount of time exploring these areas, do it yourself

We had a really good/satisfying overview of Sacsayhuaman on this tour. It also afforded great views of Cusco city below. The Cristo Blanco White Christ statue was just a 10-min walk away, although we didn't go there. The tour included a short visit to Tambomachay and Qenqo, and we saw/photographed Puca Pucara. Our guide was not only very knowledgeable of all the sites we visited, but also of Incan history and culture he had much pride in his heritage. We had blue skies and bright, bright sun - this is where I got sun-burned. This was my fault - duh, high altitude - put on sun-block and BRING A HAT when going anywhere in Cusco and the Sacred Valley. There was another couple on the tour. The van was spacious and clean. The only thing I didn't like was that we stopped for about 30min at a store that sold alpaca and silver goods - I believe they had an alpaca farm. Although it was nice to understand the differences between alpaca, baby alpaca, vicuña and llama wool, I didn't go on this tour to shop I would have preferred instead to spend those 30 minutes visiting the Puca Pucara site. Warning - we bought a scarf, and because we paid by Visa, we were charge a 30 markup, yikes! Had we known this, we would have paid in cash. It was such a hassle to get a refund, I didn't want to be bothered with it, I just wanted to get out of the store - but my husband was so angry with the whole thing. I had debated this tour vs. the religious sites tour which would have quickly visited other sites like the Korikancha and the cathedral, but I was glad to get more in-depth knowledge of Sacsayhuaman. We ended up exploring the Korikancha and the cathedral on our own, and took our time doing so.

We had a wonderful experience with out tour guide, Marinés. She was personable, well-informed, interesting and spoke English very well. She arrived on time and took us to the four Inca sights located outside of Cusco. I would definitely recommend her as a guide and recommend Viator.

My flight was not until the early evening, so this is a good half-day tour if you want to stay near the Cusco area. I'd recommend not going during the rainy season since there are rocks/steps to climb, which can be slippery and challenging. It's about a 3 hour tour, but since I was the only person that day, maybe it was faster. The guide was very informative and willing to take her time to show and explain the areas to me.

This was a great experience for me while I traveled alone for a couple of days. I thought the guide was very passionate about the history behind the Inca people and was very informative. The tour bus was on-time and well worth the money to see all the archeological parks in the Cusco area. I would recommend this tour.

This was one of the last tours we experienced in Lima and it was very interesting. The location(s) were great. Our guide, Leslie, was very informative and knowledgeable about the archeological park(s) - there were 4 in total that we visited plus a factory where we learned about the difference between "baby alpaca" and "maybe alpaca" - interesting and helpful if you are beginning your trip!

From pick-up to drop-off the tour was exactly as described and timed (practically to the minute). Felt like a private tour (two of us and three other people) in our own tour van with driver and guide. Guide was informative, able to answer all the questions - good English. Qenqo, Tambomachay, and Pucca Pucara were very interesting, but the highlight - walking beside the massive stone walls of Sacsayhuaman fortress. Of the tours we did in Cusco, this was the most interesting and the best.

The tour bus and guide promptly showed up at our hotel. The tour took us to 4 closeby Inka ruins on the hill side. One of us had to pace slowly at one of the sites due to the high altitude but it was worth seeing the sites with a tour guide.

Sacsayhuaman is a beautiful archeological zone in Cusco. It's amazing to walk through the park and wonder just how it was built. There are stones over 12 feet tall and magnificent patterns of religious Inca animals throughout. We were in a group of three people so it was great to have a more personalized experience with the guide! The guide was funny and knowledgeable as well!
