Newgrange and Hill of Tara Day Trip from Dublin

Dublin, Ireland

Don't miss the chance to take this popular tour of the Boyne Valley, one of Ireland's most important historic locations. You'll get a sense of the ghosts of Ireland's past at the tombs of Newgrange and visit Tara Hill, full of historical monuments

Leave Dublin behind and head to the Hill of Tara deep in the Irish countryside. The hill dates back to the 11th century and has many different ancient monuments and the seat of High King of Ireland.

Hop back on board your coach and head to Newgrange. To help you experience the history of this ancient land, your guide will lead you into the actual tombs of Newgrange (dating from 3000 B.C.), one of the oldest and largest Neolithic burial chambers in Europe. They even predate the Egyptian pyramids!

Finish off you tour with a quick stop in the picturesque town of Howth. Originally a fishing village, Howth is home to some of the oldest buildings in Ireland.

I found it essential to visit these place to familiarize myself with the old and mystical history of Ireland_br/_ dating back 5,000-6,000 years ago.

The tour was really cool. Howth was pretty interesting. It was early when we got there, so not everything was open yet, but it was really charming! Newgrange was pretty impressive. The Hill of Tara was just okay, and I could have skipped it. Especially since the chapel exhibit was closed. Regardless, I'm so happy I went!

We were so glad that we decided to embark on this day trip. Newgrange is an incredible site and felt like hallowed ground. It was an amazing experience and the bus driver was exceptionally pleasant and helpful. We spent a week in Ireland and this was a highlight on our trip. It's also a nice distance from Dublin, just far enough so that we felt that we had a full day of adventure, but not so far as to be exhausting. To experience such history moves the soul and provides a depth of understanding at to the age of this beautiful land.

The tomb and solar clock is set in the most breath taking country side, we were amazed by the tomb and marveled the ancient residents understanding of the movement of the sun. Makes you wish you could travel in a time machine.

What a trip. Not only did Gerry and Michael provide the coach with the standard tourist information about the places we visited, they added lots of local antidotes and personal stories that brought the day alive. A day of exploration, mingled with fun and humour, these two blokes were the best. Don't go on a trip without them Many thanks for the memories, Jeff.

I wish I remembered the name of our guide I'm sure TripAdvisor can find his name through GrayLine Tours for 27 March but we had a wonderful day visiting both the Hill of Tara and Newgrange. Although I wished we had more time to spend at Newgrange 90 minutes is not enough to appreciate the site and take advantage of it's lovely visitor center and restaurant/gift shop hint hint, we are grateful we were able to see it and that for the most part the weather cooperated. Although we visited the Hill of Tara a second time on a different tour with a different guide, that is another site worth taking in twice not only because of its size but also its history. We didn't have time to visit the gift shop or cafe on either visit because I wanted to use that time for photos, but we received a special surprise on our arrival this particular day, a rainbow!!

The Newgrange site is fascinating and impressive. I loved being able to enter the structure and imagine being part of the people who used it as a ceremonial site. Our tour guide on site was knowledgeable as was our guide on the bus. Our tour bus guide was funny and knowledge and even in pouring rain gamely took us on the Tara grounds. He was unstoppable. The lunch at Newgrange was very nice, as promised. Highly recommend this day trip.

Our guide, Eion, was a hoot! I'd go anywhere with him. _br/_ To visit Newgrange, you must be with a tour and have an appointment, so we reluctantly took a bus tour. Never thought it could be so fun and interesting. Newgrange was fabulous and I thought the schedule and plan they have set up is very well thought out. _br/_ While it was Newgrange that we wanted to see we'd recently read Frank Delaney's Ireland, the Hill of Tara was also very interesting. _br/_ Highly recommend this tour especially if Eion is the driver/guide. He's the modern day version of an Irish storyteller.

Our tour guide Jerry was fun and informative. This is a shorter day trip from Dublin--full of history and a brief stop in Howth_br/_ was a favorite with my sisters. Beautiful countryside everywhere you look.

Have been to Newgrange three times - which I strongly recommend if you are in the Dublin area. This tour was the best.

This was an amazing tour. Jerry was our guide and he was fabulous. He was funny and really took the time to make the trip enjoyable. The tomb at Newgrange is absolutely stunning. It is worth a trip to see. The Hill of Tara was very interesting and had a very cool Fairy Tree we were able to go look at, as well as the Rock of Destiny. The weather was extremely windy, but still worth the time to see these amazing pieces of history. I would recommend that you not miss this site and going with this tour was well worth it.

This tour was amazing our driver Eion was awesome so much historical knowledge was shared. Newgrange dated over 3000 year BC was a wow experience and the Hill of Tara, the historical events just blow me away. It was great craic as the Irish would say!! Would highly recommend, this is a must see. Eion was a lot of fun and made our day a truly memorable one !!!

The best thing was our bus driver Eoin, who was hilarious and indefatigably informative. He really went the extra mile and certainly has the gift of the gab._br/_ The Neolithic site of Newgrange was astonishing, and the Bronze Age remnants of Tara truly awe-inspiring.

Newgrange and Tara were both interesting sites. The trip to Howth was not a good fit. Just a waste of time for a pit stop.

The trip was very enjoyable. Trev and Kev were a dynamic travel duo. They told us tales - tall and true. The weather was beautiful and showed off the countryside in all its splendour. Newgrange was fascinating. I would highly recommend this tour.

This was the best tour of my week in Ireland- mostly because the guide, EOIN was amazing! He was passionate and knowledgeable about history, plants, animals, and he made all of it come alive for our tour. I would HIGHLY recommend any trip where he was your guide!!! He really made the day.

I recommend this trip. This goes back 5000 years of history. Fabulous. Our guide was fantastic. We had so much time. This is not a trip people take as much as cliffs of Mohr, but I think it is just as fascinating

We went on this tour on Saturday, September 9th. Our tour guide was Eoin. We were asked to be there 20 minutes prior to the tour start of 8:45. Since the office doesn't open until 15 minutes prior we were out in the cold waiting. The bus arrived on time but we were not allowed to board until 9am more waiting in the cold. Once on board they held the bus for another 10 minutes due to a discrepancy with the passenger list. The tour was good with a lot of valuable info. Our tour guide was good at keeping the group together and giving very concise instructions. He was a little long winded which resulted in a slightly late return.

Eoin brought it to life. Enjoyed stopping by Howth and also the site of the Battle of the Boyne.. Newgrange and the Hill of Tara were amazing.. loved the Fairy Tree, too! A must tour when in Dublin!!

This was a relatively long drive for a 12 minute newgrange experience and a loosely guided hill of tara venture. Our guide was superb on the bus ride there, but the actual tour part fell short of expectations.

Newgrange is extraordinary and well worth your time to go see, however the Hill of Tara was a big disappointment. Really nothing there and just seemed like filler. Also the check-in was disorganized and the tour left late. Our guide was good and driver got us everywhere we needed to be on time.

We enjoyed Newgrange. It's much smaller than it looks from the outside. The dramatization of the winter solstice event was pretty cool. The Hill of Tara is nice for its history but honestly there isn't much there. The landscape views of the surroundings areas is nice. Our tour guide Eoin was awesome and very informative. We stopped in the village of Howth at the beginning but they dropped us at the harbor where there isn't much to see/do. Overall, the tour was good but not great.

I cannot recommend this tour highly enough! I have taken many day trips and this was one of the best. The tour guide, Owen English spelling? was amazing. He even dropped us off at the pub we were going to after letting all the other tourists off. His knowledge and sense of humour were truly amazing!

Wonderful experience. Coach driver, Eoin, was knowledgeable, friendly and a very humorous guide for the day. Newgrange facility is superbly well organised and an awesome monument to our ancestors. The views from the Hill of Tara were beautiful and Eoins commentary made sense of a site with only marks on the turf to indicate where the buildings were originally. I would highly recommend this very special tour.

Definitely a great day out. Newgrange was amazing and our lovely guide charming. Last bit at Howth a bit boring but we did see wild seals up close. Not much time there to have a real look around and got dropped at the wharf with not much to look at.

A fun day trip from Dublin. Newgrange is an amazing site. Hill of Tara was interesting but it is just a barren hill at this point. All the structures are gone. Our guide and bus driver were excellent and overall we had a great time.
