Mljet National Park Day Trip from Dubrovnik

Dubrovnik, Croatia

Take a full-day trip to Mljet from Dubrovnik and be enchanted by the island’s special charm. Explore one of the loveliest and most densely wooded Adriatic islands as you stroll through the beautiful Mljet National Park. Enjoy a relaxing boat ride to the small isle of St Mary and discover the magnificent Benedictine monastery with your friendly guide.

After pickup from your hotel in the morning by comfortable minivan, leave Dubrovnik with your professional guide to the port of Gruz. Here, board on a catamaran to start your exciting small-group trip to the beautiful Mljet island -- one of the most stunning islands in the Mediterranean Sea and the biggest island of the South Dalmatian archipelago. Take in the natural beauty and watch sailors cruising in the bay. Disembark at Polace on the northern coast of the island and enjoy the scenic drive to Pristanište.

Your friendly guide will take you to the Mljet National Park, which covers the entire northwest part of Mjlet. Walk along the pleasant, shaded paths and hike up the hills to enjoy the stunning scenery from hills above the Mljet coastline. Take a boat ride out onto two saltwater lakes, Veliko and Malo Jezero, which stretch for 2.5 miles (4 km), and listen as your guide gives you more insights about the national park while you sit back and enjoy floating on the lakes.

From here, take a second boat ride to the small isle of St Mary. Discover with your guide the magnificent Benedictine monastery, erected in 12th century. Then, enjoy leisure time to have lunch (on your own expense), swim in the turquoise water or take a relaxing walk on the beautiful island before returning to your Dubrovnik hotel in the late afternoon.

I went on three tours with Super Tours and I felt this one was a little disorganized long waiting time for bus and boat, meaning less time to explore the national park. If you have the time, I highly recommend going to Mljet NP for two days because one day isn't enough! It's a beautiful island and I wish we would have had time to do some hiking.

WORST TOUR EVER! The service that we received from the tour company Super Tours was and continues to be shocking. Firstly the tour we booked got cancelled the afternoon prior to the trip, I understand that this can happen, however the tour company didn't even call me to notify of the cancellation, I found out when I rang at 4:30pm to confirm it was still on. I then rescheduled the tour a few days, and on the day of the tour the transfer was 45 minutes late to pick us up. Yet again I had to call the tour company after waiting 30 minutes to query why there was a delay. We then got to the boat and met our tour guide who had not yet pre-purchased any of the groups tickets. We didnt get any tour guiding or commentary on the entire 2 hour ferry trip, and what we got on the island was not much better. There was only 2 couples on our tour and they were just as shocked as we were, to be honest the best part of the tour was meeting them. The rest of the day was no better than if we had planned the trip ourselves. The guide as nice, but didnt know much about Mljet, and we just thought it was a waste of money, When we got back to Dubrovnik we waited another 25 minutes for our transfer to pick us up. We were the last ones on the port waiting after arrival for a car! I then rang Super Tours to explain and complain about our experience the following day. They said they would look into it and get back to me the next day....you guessed it no call back. I rang a week later and they said they had no record of my prior call, so they said they would call me back the following day....yep you got it they never called me back! I cant wait to call them a third time! NEVER USE THIS COMPANY!

Mljet is a lovely island but aspects of the trip were not great. Our guide was wonderful, knowledgeable and knew how to navigate the crowds. However, the catamaran we took over offered no outdoor space and so all were inside where it was hot, stuffy and stale while the beautiful outdoors was going by. We wished we had gone on a ferry on our own, rented bikes that are at the pier and done the trails. There was not time to do the trails with the tour.

Our tour guide left us in the park to learn about the most beautiful things that were there. Screen the tour guides properly.

There were only three participants in this tour. The young guide was enthusiastic and knowledgeable. All organizational aspects worked well, with a fast catamaran ride to and from Dubrovnik, motor van to the lakes, motor boat to the Island of St Mary with a break to look around, another boat to the meeting place of the two lakes, three hours to do one's own thing and then van and ferry back to Dubrovnik._br/_ It is an excursion well worth doing.

Although Mljet and St. Mary's were quite beautiful, our tour guide seemed to lack the enthusiasm for his role as guide. Mainly he seemed to just send us off on our own without clear instructions of where to meet back up later and whenever we looked for he, we found him sitting in a cafe smoking a cigarette and having a beer. Very disappointing- we have come to expect much more from Viator tours!

You would do better to simply arrange your own transport to Mljet.

This was a beautiful area to visit and worth the trip. However our guide did not do any of the narrative or explaining of the trip as was advertised in the description of the tour. Basically he got us from one mode of transportation to the next and then vanished in between times. We were left to explore and learn about the area by either reading the posted material or tagging along with another tour group. We were late from the ferry and missed our first transportation connection and had to hang around for 40 minutes until the next one arrived. During that time other tour groups came and got on transportation before us. Obviously they had a tour guide that was organized. We had to wait for him to show up for the return ferry and we were boarded last. The tour guide fell asleep on the ferry and we had to find our own driver to return us to the hotel. Basically a lovey trip but a lousy tour guide.

Our tour guide, Anna from Spain was wonderful. She was friendly and energetic. _br/_ Mljet is a beautiful island. We enjoyed the escape from Dubrovnik. The monastery was nice but not fantastic. Our favorite part was the swim. If you're not planning to swim, you'll find the day long and perhaps boring unless you're an avid hiker. I'd recommend this tour only if you have an extra day in Dubrovnik with time to spare. It's a long day, over 11 hours from pickup to drop off._br/_ The pacing of the tour could be improved. We waited on the dock for about an hour in the morning because of a too early pickup. On the island with the monastery we also had an hour when half would suffice. Our guide didn't know the boat timings well enough we discovered we had an extra 30 minutes on the island but by that time it was too late to eat lunch._br/_ Then we had 2 hours to walk about 1 mile to the swimming hole, swim and get back for transportation back to the port. At the port we had another 75 minutes to kill. This was our opportunity for lunch at 3pm._br/_ Perhaps the tour is constrained by the ferry service, but it would be nice to clump the free time together or give individuals choices about how to use all of the free time. For example, we would have opted to spend more time swimming and then eating lunch nearby and returning to the port later. _br/_ There's little imparting of information here by the tour guide, merely shepherding you from point A to point B to point C, etc..._br/_ Also as others have said, the two hour ferry ride each way is unimpressive. You can't go out on the deck to snap photos, nor is any narrative provided as to what islands or points of interest you may be passing.

I was hoping for more information/history of Mljet. It was really just a ferry ride and entry into national park. I would've also liked more information about activities to do on Mljet in the free time allotted.

En route to Mljet by sea there are stunning views of the coastline and islands that you would not normally see only minor disappointment was that there was no commentary on the boat identifying the islands and coastline. The large island of Mljet has a monastery floating in the lake which after a short boat ride you visit, views from the top of the monastery are stunning. A further short boat ride takes you to another inland lake which you explore at your leisure, walking, cycling, swimming, or just relaxing enjoying the surrounding scenery and wildlife. Would highly recommend this trip.

Mljet was beautiful but the tour was average. We were left to wonder around St Mary and #39;s Island by ourselves with little explanation of history when compared to other tour groups. If you do not like seafood, make sure that you eat at the restaurant on Saint Mary and #39;s Island. This was not pointed out.

Because of the weather we only went to the Mljet Island but didn't get to go into the National Park, which was the reason for our trip. Our guide was not very informative so all up it was a very disappointing day.

There was only free time given with no explanation on the tour. I would recommend taking the ferry on your own from the harbour rather than booking the tour since it saves about half the cost and there is anyways only free time in the national park and no need of a guided tour.

Had a wonderful day and everything smooth and easy, picked up at hotel at time stated by a very friendly and helpful driver. Met Ivana tour guide at the port who was also very helpful, friendly and informative. The only small negative point I have is that we were collected at 8.15 and boat to the national park did not leave until 9.15 but other than that not one thing wrong. The national park is very peaceful and beautiful and we are so very glad we went. There were two weddings on the Island and that was nice to see in the tiny historic chapel. Would I recommend this trip 100 percent yes.. Ivana and your driver thank you very much for your hospitality we had a great day.

I think there should be more clarity given on how much of the day is spent just getting from one place to another. Was worth it when we got there, even though the weather did not cooperate. Beautiful place.

Did not get the 40 minute ride via Catamaran as the itinerary stated, instead it was over 2 hours each way via ferry. I believe the ferry would be cheaper than the catamaran too. Plus so much time is then spent travelling that you lose part of the day. Was also picked up an hour before the other couple on our trip was picked up so we had to just sit around for a while. The island itself is stunning though. Did complain to Viator but have not received any response.

Generally a very pleasant day out but very overpriced. Mljet is beautiful. Would suggest bringing a picnic so you can spend more time at the lake. Restaurant is 15-20mins walk away from the lake.

Great tour! We were picked up at the hotel in a nice Mercedes. It took us to the port where our guide already purchased the tickets for the catamaran. Our transport to the island took approx. 1h. The guide was friendly and made sure she left us enough time to be on our own. When arrived in the national park, we boarded a minivan that took us to a small boat. After a visit with some interesting facts we went to another island. On that island we had free time for 3h to swim and relax.

We enjoyed the trip. The info provided by the guide was minimal- it seems she just takes you on the ferry and then sits to talk to her friends for 3-4 hours. It should be clear how much of the time is "free".

There were only 6 of us with a local guide, Olga on this trip. It was a genuine small group tour. Olga was interesting and entertaining and gave us plenty of free time as well as good explanations of the islands and many other facts about Croatia and its recent past. Mljet itself is a beautiful island and the tour on the lake with lunch on the water's edge by the old monastery was a highlight, marred only by the ubiquitous wasp plague. There is an opportunity to bathe in the lake (take reef shoes or similar for the stony ground!) and then to take a 20 minute flat walk back along the lake edge. For the historians there is an old Roman villa and Byzantine Church at the harbor edge which can also be explored before getting back on the ferry. All-in-all an excellent day out.

I highly recommend this trip. The park was beautiful. Philip and Paula, our guides, were terrific. Philip told us a lot about Dubrovnik in general and recommended things for us to do in our spare time There were only 3 people on the tour. The lake water temperature was warm in Sept, and because it was salty I was able to just relax and float.

Mljet is definitely worth a visit. However, this trip is very overpriced. Whilst I expect to pay a little more for the convenience of a pick up and guide, the additional amount charged for this versus doing it yourself (which didn't look that difficult) was exorbitant, especially given that the lunch was largely inedible. The notes should also have been clearer about the possible activities and what to take eg swimwear.

A silver Mercedes picked only us up from the hotel, already it was a good start. Took only 10min time from the hotel to the pier. By the time we reached the pier, we saw an elderly couple and Olga (our tour guide) and who greeted us upon arrival. She was super-friendly and we conversed for the majority of the ferry ride, which was 1.5hr. By the time we reached Mljet, the only historical place she told us about were the two small churches and several other minor detail information that weren't clear. Our lunch which was the fish dish was terrible ...but we didn't want to be rude about the taste when she asked how it was. However, lunch didn't come with a drink ...not even water...we ordered a bottle of water + soda while the older couple ordered a coffee + beer. I paid for the soda and we left to go on another ferry...all of a sudden the waiter rushed out and said we needed to pay for the water as well. Huh?? Only WE had to pay for the drinks and not the elderly couple?? THIS we didn't understand. All in all, we expected a decent lunch that included water at the very least for the money we paid for the tour. After this incident, the tour guide smoked her cigarette and just conversed with the elderly couple (who were Italian and we Chinese). Thank goodness I researched a lot about Mljet before joining the tour, because she did not do a good job presenting this place to us. If I could give her a grade from 0-10, she deserves a 2.4 (for introducing herself in the beginning of the ferry ride). Olga just talked with the Italian couple (since that's the language she feels most comfortable with speaking). We felt left out. And we still feel ripped off. Over $100 USD to go on a tour like this, we might as well go on our own for less than half this price!

My boyfriend, my parents and I did not enjoy this particular tour. The tour guide was not very informative and the restaurant chosen for lunch was HORRIBLE. The tour guide asked about food preferences and I specifically told her that my parents and my boyfriend would like chicken and that they cannot eat pork. All 3 were given pork and the tour guide was no where to be found. The waiter acknowledged it was pork and walked away.

The park itself is beautiful. Tour guide is friendly. _br/_ The sub-tour company from viator - supersave, does not know where our hotel Villa Dubronik is after our second day trip with them. On the way back, still drop us off at the other hotel which we need to walk for 10 minutes back... however, in the morning, we were being picked up at our hotel. pretty dissatified with the knowledge of the tour company._br/_ Mijet national park has lots of free time. if you like to swim in the lake, this will be recommended tour. But if you are not a swimmer, you will have lots of time dont know what to do in the park as it is a park with nothing too much to wonder around.
