Montenegro Full-Day Trip from Dubrovnik

Dubrovnik, Croatia

Be amazed by the beauty of Montenegro on a day trip from Dubrovnik to some of the country’s main towns and sites. Take in views of the Župa Dubrovacka and Konavle valleys on a scenic drive along the beautiful Bay of Kotor (Boka Kotorska) and take a guided visit to the charming town of Perast. Enjoy an optional boat trip to Our Lady of the Rocks island and continue with a walking tour and free time in Kotor on the Adriatic Coast. Admire views of the Sveti Stefan islet on the way to Budva before relaxing on a ferry ride back to Dubrovnik.

After pickup from your Dubrovnik hotel, get ready for an exciting day in Montenegro! Relax in a comfortable minivan and take in views of Dubrovnik's old town, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, as you leave the Croatian city behind and continue through the beautiful Župa Dubrovacka valley and the Konavle region.

Next, cross the border to Montenegro and admire the picturesque Montenegro coast, offering a varied palette of ocean-blue colors. Drive along the Bay of Kotor. Continue with a visit of Perast, another beautiful small town, located at the foot of St Elijah Hill. Here, you have the option to board a local boat (own expense) and head to Our Lady of the Rocks island to visit the 17th-century Baroque-style church.

Continue to Kotor by minivan and enjoy a sightseeing walking tour of the town, one of the best-preserved medieval towns on the Adriatic Coast, and discover the area’s important sailing tradition. Visit St Tryphon Cathedral with your guide, before enjoying free time to explore on your own.

Get back in your comfortable minivan and relax on the drive to the Sveti Stefan islet and resort. Take in views of the beautiful Adriatic Sea and learn the interesting history of this location from your guide. Admire views of the Montenegro coast as the drive continues toward the coastal town of Budva. Here, enjoy a sightseeing tour of the town, take time to wander around Budva Old Town on your own, relax on a beautiful sandy beach, and satisfy your appetite with lunch at a local restaurant (own expense).

To end your tour, take a short ferry trip across the Bay of Kotor and enjoy a scenic drive along the coastal roads of Montenegro back to your Dubrovnik hotel.

Having done this trip before I was keen for my husband to have an equally enjoyable day - it was not to be! An extra one and a half hours was spent at the border due to an American lady not having a passport, just a sheet of paper identifying herself should this not have been checked before leaving Dubrovnik? - eventually she was left behind and collected by the tour company. Guide Josefunable to count the number of people on the bus after the brief toilet stop - appeared to have lost two people, in reality he had written down two people's names twice on the manifest! Over two hours at all three main stops - far more than anyone needed, it seemed to be an opportunity for the guide to catch up on some social engagements. The final stop at Perast should have involved an OPTIONAL boat trip - guide herded everyone onto the boats and then announced it cost 6 Euros each a deal he had struck with his friends the boatmen. Bus parked in a small layby by where the boat trip began - this was not the official moorings, just private ones, and required everyone to have to walk along the busy main road to reach the moorings. At the end of the visit, in the town of Perast, the guide walked us back up to the bus - about a mile's walk along the main road, with only limited pavements. This was completely inappropriate and worried a number of those of us on the tour as the party contained young children and families with pushchairs - no one should be walking along here as it was not safe, but especially not young children. When the situation was put to the guide he just said that it was so that we could get his good deal with the boatmen. Obviously not worried about his visitors!!!_br/_ We arrived back in Dubrovnik three hours later than scheduled!_br/_ The guide when I took the same trip two years go was brilliant, in this case Josef was not! He appeared to be lacking in knowledge, totally unorganised and lacked professionalism. I would not recommend this trip, unless the 'boat trip' location was reviewed and another guide was assigned to the trip.

For a tour company who does this everyday, it was poorly organized. Lot of the pit falls on the trip could have been avoided with better planning. They have either lost touch of their touring abilities or maybe are more focused on the money.

a beautiful place especially the island of the lady of the rocks , make sure you were comfortable shoes it includes quite a bit of walking especially if you climb the fortress .

It takes a lot of time just to cross the border. Arrived in Montenegro, the visit to Perast is lovely. Then we went to Kotor, the most stunning place. However, the time allowed to visit the city, 2 hours which includes 1 hour of guided tour, is too short!!! Then we went to Budva, with little time to visit too!! What annoyed me most of all was the feeling that I spent more time on the bus than visiting the places. At the end of the day I felt exhausted and very frustrated.

Our Tour Guide was excellent...However the company he works for is VERY disorganized!!!!_br/_ The tour started 2 hours late....we sat on the bus at a bus stop for 2 hours waiting and we never did know if we were really going...Once we did, it was a great tour.

We had a great time in Kotor and Budva. The entire drive was beautiful. Our thanks to the guide for her restaurant recommendation in Budva , delicious and reasonably priced right on the shores of the Adriatic, very memorable.

This tour is a nice way to see a bit of Montengro, if you are short on time. Border patrol wasn't too bad and our guide Lydia, was fun and engaging and did the tour in both English and Spanish. In my opinion, the lady of the rocks visit was the highlight of the trip, although Kotor was beautiful as well. I only wished we had more time there. I would have loved to climb the city walls and have a panoramic view of the city and sea, but we were pressed for time and I didn't want to rush. The tour would have been better if it just went Perast lady of the rocks and Kotor, and skipped Budva entirely. I didn't find anything to write home about in that town and would have loved more time in Kotor. The tour itself was well organized and Lydia made great recommendations for things to eat and to do in each place. Overall, it was a pretty good day

Lovely tour of Montenegro, really got to see a big part of the country. Would have preferred more time in Kotor, to allow time to hike the hill. Budva was nice but only beaches. The border control takes time but its out of their hands- they try their best to make you as comfortable as possible. Would recommend this tour.

WOW! I fell in love with Montenegro on this day trip! We had a fantastic guide and driver! Kotor is lovely and I loved the hike up to the fort unfortunately too little time to make it all the way to the top. The Lady of the Rocks was surprisingly nice. In Budva we had an excellent lunch stop. I don't call myself a foodie person but I keep talking about that great lunch in Budva at Jadran Kod Krsta. I highly recommend this day trip!

The tour was okay. Due to traffic, we were quite late back and could not make it to the Sveti Stefan.

An excellent tour, quite long, but well worth the effort. Some beautiful sights to see along the coast and visited Kotor, Budva and Perast where we caught a boat across to Our Lady of the Rocks Island.

Although this tour is good, not great, I am glad that I took it because otherwise I would not have been able to travel to beautiful Montenegro. So if you only have a day, take this tour. _br/_ If I return to Montenegro it will be by ship and hopefully for a longer period of time than one day.

First of all, please ensure you have the correct visas prior to travelling to Montenegro. Montenegro is not part of the EU so please bear this in mind when applying for visas. Border control is extremely tight as it should be so ensuring you have the correct documentation will ensure it's as speedy as possible. Apart from the delays experienced at the border which we were told can be anything up to 3 hours in peak summer season! the day went well. We visited 3 places in Montenegro Budva, Kotor and Perast. We had 2 hours each at the first 2 locations and then 45 minutes at the final location, Perast. 2 hours is plenty in Budva but nowhere near long enough for Kotor! Kotor is such a cracking little town very picturesque, plenty of things to do and lots to experience. We managed half of the hike up to the top before succumbing to the heat! We still managed to get some great photos so would definitely recommend it, just make sure to have plenty of water with you! This is a perfect little place if you are a cat lover I'll say no more, don't want to ruin the surprise! I absolutely loved this town but I think 4 hours would be more appropriate so you can do the guided tour and still have time to look around and do everything else! Perast is only a short stop to take the boat of the Our Lady of the Rocks. Again, well worth the trip, if only for the nice cooling sea breeze! One thing to note, make sure you have plenty of Euros in cash you need it for the boat trip and for going up to the top. Restaurants accept card but it's much easier to carry cash. My only criticism was with the tour operator, Super Tours. Absolutely no organisation at all. I spent 2 hours the day before our trip calling them to try and find out where we needed to be and when as we were staying outside of the main area I finally got an email from them confirming at 21:09! Bit late in the day if you ask me! Saying that, the coach driver Jacob and our tour guide Lydia were absolutely wonderful. They made it an enjoyable and informative day. All in all, a fabulous trip which has made us want to do a holiday to Montenegro now! Might have to start looking...

This was probably not my favorite trip. First, the bus was about 1/2 late in picking us up and when we finally got on the road, we had to turn back to pick up a last minute booking and then be on our way again. The border crossing was quick thankfully. The towns were fine and the tour of Kotor was great but overall we were underwhelmed with the whole thing. Call us jaded but we almost wish we had stayed in Dubrovnik for the day and enjoyed its beautiful scenery a little more.

The trip was delayed by almost 2 hours due to transfer issues. The guide could have handled the matter better, but showed clear frustration which did not inspire confidence initially. Once we got underway, the tour was fine and the guide was quite informative and pleasant.

Long tour - You will need a relaxing day to follow this tour. It lasts about 12 to 13 hours. Montenegro is a very beautiful country and worth visiting. I wish I went with a smaller group rather than taking a big couch over. Border control was a little long but that wasn't the tours fault. Lydia did a great job keeping the tour fun and engaging. She recommended a good restaurant in Budva and gave insightful information about the history of Montenegro on the way over. She accommodated for two languages very well: English and Spanish. The tour is worth doing!

Kotor was lovely although did not have much time exploring the place. I suggest to shorten the Budva trip as there's nothing exciting to see there.

Loved it! Bay of Kotor is stunning, so many cute towns but just such a bummer was raining very hard when we got to the best one, Kotor... I feel the tour Co guide could have shorten the first stop a lot to be able to get to Kotor_br/_ sooner and beat the rain, they can adapt , thats my only complaint

This tour is good if you have no other opportunity to visit Montenegro during your trip. Tour operators were friendly and helpful. Less time in Budva and more time between Perast Our Lady of Rocks and Kotor would have been preferred. The biggest main drag is the lengthy passport control crossing heading south from Dubrovnik. Really now, this border control is redundant, tedious and frankly, unnecessary. While they may not like each other due to past war issues in the 1990's, both countries need to come together and forge their own sort of Schengen Zone between each other. Doing so will make for a happier and better experience with the tour operators, tourists, locals and businesses all around.

Tour guide is great and stops in Perast allow time for a boat ride to the little island in the bay as well as 2 hours each in Kotor and Budva which allow for time to see sights as well as to eat or shop. This is a large group tour so you're with almost 50 people the whole time.

It rained heavily nonstop the entire day, so some people from the tour group opted out of the boat ride. Sometimes it was hard to hear the tour guide through the rain, but he made the best of the situation.

Montenegro is beautiful country, but it too long bus ride from Dubrovnik passing numerous boarder controls. Even, we had 2-3 buses in front of our bus, it took about 50 mins to pass through the border control.

before being dropped in Montenegro we were told by tour guide that they would not wait for us even 1 minute if we were late returning to bus. On arrival the tour guide rushed up the road almost jogging telling us to follow. We went some distance and did not have time to orient ourselves nor were landmarks of any sort pointed out to us in fact we almost lost her in the crowd. We were not given a contact phone number. The result was we became lost and local people were not helpful. By the time we started to sort out where the bus was it was 8 minutes past departure time so we assumed they had gone without us and had to get a taxi to Kotor to try and meet up with them. The taxi driver was very helpful and we did meet up. also we did not really have a very detailed itinerary. Then when dropped at our air bnb accommodation they dropped us in the right street but no where near our accommodation in the dark with our luggage. We are 2 ladies in our 60s and had not been there before. Found our accommodation a long distance away with difficulty. NEVER AGAIN

The tour was excellent. Super early start and they don't pick up from every location (I had to walk to a different hotel to be picked up). Your tour guides are super informative and give lots of details. Loved all 3 stops (definitely go out to Our Lady of Rocks). Border crossing can be a long wait.

This was a beautiful tour of Montenegro, that I can recommend! However, the reason why I gave a 4 and not a 5 was the fact that too many sights were included, given too little time at each place, making parts of the tour a bit hectic.

This was a nice tour. They were great to pick us up all the way up in Stikovika, where we were staying and then dropping us back off after the tour. The guide was very good in English and Spanish. The driver did an excellent job manuevering through the tight roads. I enjoyed letting someone else worry for one day.

To preface, I hate taking organized tours. I feel as if they are tourist traps and leave very little room for individual exploration, rather it's just a group of tourists over-paying to be rushed from place to place. However, that was absolutely not the case with this tour. Igor gave me one of my favorite day trips I have ever taken. He was informative, realistic and funny. I enjoyed the fact that this is not described as a small group tour, but it certainly is-- especially in the off-season. There were three couples and then me, and Igor helped me feel right at home. This guy deserves a raise. I mentioned that I would like to spend more time in Kotor and less in Perast, to which the other travelers agreed and Igor made the adjustment. The border control was handled flawlessly, we were able to stop for bathroom breaks as needed, and I felt that I had plenty of time in each place. The drive was gorgeous, the local guide, Bojar, was fantastic, and I even had time to climb to the top of the city walls even though Igor and Bojar told me not to... :- Seriously, if you're considering a day trip from Dubrovnik to Montenegro-- look no further.

Brilliant tour. There was a total of 6 of us which made it better. Our tour guide told us of this amazing place to eat over the boarder in Bosnia. So we all went there on the way back for dinner! Only made possible due to the small tour group size. We all shared 1.5kg of lamb with wine. It was delicious. Fantastic to have a local guide who could give us a more personal history/outlook on the countries and towns we visited.

Nice tour. We did not do one of the stops sveti stephan and no idea why. Kotor would of been nice to have 30 more minutes to walk the walls and browse shops more. The local guide was great, but was not required.

The Montenegro tour with Super Tours was just enough to provide a taste of Montenegro. The tour starts with pick up in a small that fits the 2 Super Tour employees and 7 guests on the tour. Once all 7 people were in the car we headed to the border. We didn't wait very long getting through because the agents at the border only had to review a few passports vs a bus load thank God!. While we were driving the tour guide provided history and information on the sights we were seeing in addition to the sights we would be seeing soon in both English and Spanish.

I really enjoyed this full day trip. The bus takes you down the coast into Montenegro remember to bring Euros! - the border crossing can take a bit of time, we had a short wait on the way there, over an hour on the way back. You have a short ferry crossing on the way to Budva, where you spend a couple of hours exploring the old town. It's nice enough, but the next stops at Kotor and Perast are absolutely stunning. Kotor is another walled old town, this time winding up into the hills, and the stop at Perast consists of a boat trip to the Our Lady of the Rocks island, which is really peaceful and picturesque.

Egor was our tour guide who was very knowledgable about the journey to Montenegro. Every town we drove into he gave us a brief history on the town, he told us which place we were going to next. There were 3 couples on our tour which made it very personal._br/_ Great trip and would recommend this trip. Only negative is when being picked up the guides need to have a flag or banner to identify themselves so we know who they are as it's quite confusing and very busy with other tours doing pick ups, especially if your meeting point is at the pile entrance.

A wonderful tour where we got to see Montenegro and visit the old city walls. All the places we visited felt like fairy tale come to life. Our only issue was the tour guide had a very thick accent and it made it difficult to understand the information she was sharing. But the views more then made up for it. Crossing the border took some time, specially when we were returning to Dubrovnik over 1.5 hr just waiting on the bus. Overall the tour was enjoyable and worth the price.
