Loch Ness, Glencoe and the Highlands Small-Group Day Trip from Edinburgh

Edinburgh, United Kingdom

Explore Loch Ness, Glencoe and the Scottish Highlands on this 12-hour tour from Edinburgh. Depart from Edinburgh by air-conditioned minivan and travel out into the Scottish Highlands to Glencoe with your guide. Stop at Fort Augustus on the banks of Loch Ness at marvel at the spectacular scenery, then continue on to explore the Cairngorms National Park. Admire the majestic mountain of Craig Meagaidh and continue through the Drummochter mountain pass to visit the Victorian town of Pitlochry. Group size limited to 16 to ensure a personalized experience.

Depart from central Edinburgh by air-conditioned minivan in the morning and pass Linlithgow Palace — the birthplace of Mary Queen of Scots — Stirling Castle and the Wallace Monument en route to the most dramatic of all Highland glens, Glencoe. Hear the truth about the infamous 1692 massacre of Clan MacDonald from your knowledgeable guide, and learn of the area’s fascinating history and heritage.

Journey onward through Fort William, site of the military post built during the Jacobite Rebellions in the 18th century, and continue up the Great Glen between Fort William and Inverness. Take the time to capture the stunning Scottish Highlands scenery from the comfort of your coach as you travel.

Stop at Fort Augustus, by the shores of famous Loch Ness, and enjoy breathtaking views out over the loch. Pause for lunch by the waterside at your own expense, or enjoy a 1-hour boat cruise on the loch to appreciate the beautiful views from the water (not included). The boat has a sonar system, so if Nessie is down there you won’t miss her! Loch cruises run from Easter to the end of October.

Hop back aboard your minivan and continue on through the village of Spean Bridge to the Cairngorms National Park. Take in views of the spectacular Highlands scenery along the shores of Loch Laggan and marvel at Craig Meagaidh, one of the area’s impressive mountains. It is here that TV series Monarch of the Glen was filmed. Continue over the Drummochter Summit — where herds of red deer often graze — and visit the Victorian town of Pitlochry, the final stop for the day.

At the end of your time in Pitlochry, head back by minivan to Edinburgh where your tour will conclude.

Took the Glencoe, Loch Ness and Highlands Tour with driver/guide, Grant B. yesterday. I have travelled all over the world and this tour was the bomb! There was so much beautiful scenery and the historical info. provided by Grant just made the tour even better. He certainly shows his love for Scotland (and disdain for the British lol). The music played on tour just supplemented the experience and the jokes, stories and singing made the day fun! Thanks again, Grant and Rabbie’s Tours. I will be back and will book another one of your tours!

Traveling in a small group gives you more time to get around your guide remembers you less chance of getting left behind. Although it was snowing in Loch Ness in early June the scenery was breath taking and well worth a visit. Once we arrived in Glencoe the sky cleared up. I enjoyed this tour but wish their was more time in town 1 hour is not enough time you either have the option of taking a cruise through the loch or getting lunch. Strange thing is most of the local pubs close after 1pm? Finding a place to eat was few and far between.

This was an amazing trip. We truly enjoyed all of the views we had within this tour. There was a great balance of seeing things from the bus as well as getting out and exploring it. Our guide, Ewan, did an amazing job. He was very friendly and did a great job sharing the history of Scotland in an interesting story format. He also shared different types of music that are home in Scotland which enhanced the tour all the more. I would highly recommend this trip and this tour company to anyone!

This was a wonderful day trip! The mini coach was excellent, and even had a usb port to charge your phone. The tour guide was super friendly, and the whole day was lovely. I did the boat ride on the Loch Ness, and loved the little stops we did around the highlands. I would recommend this day trip!

The tour to Glencoe and Loch Ness was for me a magnific experience. We could enjoy the beautiful landscape of the Highlands and learn a lot about Scotland. I am very grateful to the guide, Gilliam, who not only commented the places where we have been, but also told us a lot of interesting things about Scotland , shared with us folk scotish music and made this experience even more interesting.

Nic was our tour guide and he was fantastic! Very knowledgeable and entertaining. The seats in the van were a little tight, and snacks with bottled water would have been nice. Otherwise it was a beautiful day!

A good tour if you want to see the Scottish Highlands in one day. Our guide was very entertaining, and humorous and kept us entertained during the drive. The scenery is magnificent and we stopped often for photographs. Could be a long day for younger kids as there are long periods in the bus. A long day but worth the experience.

This trip was an awesome way to see a lot of Scotland in one day. Although driving took up a large part of the day, the scenery was beautiful and our guide Eric Murdoch shared some of the country's history and pointed out interesting landmarks along the way. Eric made sure we had enough stops to break up the long drive and recommended the best places to get snacks from the local shops. You have to pay a little extra for the boat trip at Loch Ness, but I thought it was worth it because you get to see more of the lake than you would from the shore and you learn more about the loch and Nessie of course!

Really good day trip from Edinburgh. A great way to see Loch Ness, Glen Coe and Highlands if you're short of time. I think it'd be better to do the 2-day tour if you can but if like me you only have a day spare this is the trip for you. The guide Ross was extremely well informed and shared a lot of information during the day and driving really well in bad conditions. Highly recommend this way of seeing beautiful Scotland.

Great day trip to the Highlands! Rabbies Trail Burners does a terrific job! We were a small group on a smaller, quite comfortable tour bus. Our tour guide, Alan, was terrific! He was filled with lots of history and stories, and even used a large overhead map to which he frequently referred to give us location overviews. This visual aid was very helpful for those of us who have never been to the highlands. Alan was also incredibly attentive to the needs of those on his bus, which is a definite benefit of being a small group.

Amazing trip in the highlands with Sean. It's a long day but there is a lot of ground to cover in the 12 hours. Stops at Loch Ness with the boat ride and a brief stop at Glen Coe for pictures are the highlights. Then again just watching the world go by as you drive is worth the price of admission. Sean was a great guide. He used to be a history teacher and regaled us with stories of Scotland's past including, William Wallace, Mary Queen of Scots and the Jacobites. When he wasn't telling us stories he played scottish music. My only regret was not taking a longer overnight trip so I could have seen more of the highlands at a more leisurely pace. Next time for sure.

We had Roger as our tour guide and couldn't have been happier with the experience! We made great time and saw such beautiful scenery while listening to Roger's mixture of local legends, historical fact, and music specifically chosen for the adventure!

Review by:   Lara O,    April 2018 Review: 2 star rating: It was OK, but could have been better
The location and scenery was fabulous. The tour guide was a cranky, boring man that really ruined the tour for us. This tour could have been SO much better, with a better guide.

What a great day into the Highlands. Our tour guide, Nick, was so knowledgeable and such a good story teller. I learned a lot about Scotland. He made the whole trip. When I told him Im an Outlander fan he made a detour and took me to Doune Castle. I was thrilled! Thanks again, Nick! We loved the Highlands and we loved our tour. I just wish we had more time in the little towns. Planning on coming back soon! Terri

I was a bit nervous purchasing this tour as I didn't know what the cancellation policy was, and up until the last minute wasn't completely sure about whether I would be travelling to Scotland or not. But that aside, let me tell you that this was probably in the Top 3 of tours that I've done in any country. Very well organized from when we arrived at the determined location. Guide was an absolute legend and pointed out all the sights and things to take note of - very informative. We got to make a lot of stops for photos - and believe me you're going to want to make sure you have a battery pack or power bank on hand to keep the phone charged.

We were lucky that we travelled on a sunny day. The weather was fine and the wind was not strong. Our driver as well as the tour guide was gentle and caring. He drove safely over those zig-zag roads at Highlands. It was a great experience. You will see a lot within a day.

Our tour guide, Roger, was INCREDIBLE! He was able to relay history in an easy to follow fashion. He told interesting stories, and made plenty of photo stops! The stops allowed for enough time at each destination without getting bored. I would do this trip again in a heart beat! I wish we had known how amazing this tour provided was, because we would have signed up for multi-day tours!! HIGHLY RECOMMEND!

Kudos to Tour guide Alan for being able to multi-task his role well.. from driving long hours to explaining to us the historical sites at the same time.. not easy but he did well. The tour overall was satisfactory and is worth visiting the highlands especially is our first time in Edinburgh

We were group of 7 friends taking this tour in November incl. Loch Ness Cruise and it was such a lovely sunny/partially cloudy day in great Scottish outdoors! If you are in Edinburgh, definitely take one day out to explore wonderfully carved Scottish landscape. Our guide was Nikky and I would like to point out his ultra manful aura which only added to absolutely great impression of the whole trip.

My daughter and I took this day trip sort of on a whim, but it became the definite highlight of our week in Edinburgh, Scotland. The scenery is absolutely spectacular, from the quaint villages to the grand mountains of the Glencoe Valley. Our driver, Dave, was highly professional, courteous, and with a dash of understated humor that I really appreciated. The minibus we traveled in seemed very well suited for the particular route. Finally, we were lucky enough to chose a day with beautiful sunny skies. Highly recommend this experience!

Jonathan, our tour guide, was a superb! His narration added greatly to our experience during the tour. He is personable and seemed to enjoy talking with his tour group. Jonathan's commentary made the physical layout of the highlands sensible to all of us. This tour is a must for anyone who would understand how the land and its lochs lakes are connected._br/_ The cullen skink at the recommended restaurant is absolutely superb! The very best we had anywhere. Not to be missed!_br/_ Overall, we were very impressed with Rabie's Tours. The guides were knowledgeable, the vehicles were excellent, and the tour routes were well chosen.

OUR GUIDE AND DRIVER ERIC, MADE THE EXPERIENCE VERY INTERESTING. PLENTY OF INFORMATION, STORIES AND EVEN SOME SINGING ALONG THE WAY, BRILLIANT. JUST THE RIGHT AMOUNT OF PITSTOPS FOR TOILETS, REFRESHMENTS AND SOUVENIR BUYING. EVEN GOT TO SEE A STAG CLOSE UP, HE WAS WAITING IN ONE OF THE CARPARKS WE STOPPED AT, AMAZING. IT'S A LONG DAY BUT DEFINITELY WORTH IT.
