Skip the Line: Florence Uffizi Gallery Tour

Florence, Italy

See the best of Florence’s Uffizi Gallery on a 1.5-hour walking tour, led by an art-expert guide. Avoid the long main entrance lines with a skip-the-line ticket and experience the world-famous gallery’s Renaissance highlights and architecture. Marvel at treasures including Leonardo da Vinci’s ‘Annunciation’ and Michelangelo’s ‘Doni Tondo,’ and hear the history of the magnificent building. Select a morning or afternoon tour, or choose an evening tour and, if you wish, upgrade it to include a classic Italian aperitivo or dinner after your gallery visit (upgrade available Tuesdays only, July to September).

Choose from a morning, afternoon or evening tour when you book, and then meet your guide at Florence’s Uffizi Gallery ready for your 1.5-hour tour.

Use your skip-the-line ticket to avoid the long main entrance lines and head inside the world-famous gallery. Your tour will concentrate on the highlights of its collection, made up of 1,500 pieces of artwork in 45 rooms.

Designed by Giorgio Vasari, the Uffizi was originally built to house Florence’s judiciary offices, but was gradually filled with art by the Medici family, the city’s medieval rulers. After they lost power in the 18th century, the palace became a museum.

The Uffizi is famed for its glorious Renaissance artworks, and your guide will take you to the most interesting galleries. Admire treasures by Giotto and visit halls dedicated to Michelangelo, da Vinci, Caravaggio and Raphael, all masters of their time.

Learn about works such as da Vinci’s Annunciation and Michelangelo’s Doni Tondo and explore the gallery's upper level, home to masterpieces by Caravaggio.

After around 1.5 hours, your tour ends inside the gallery. You're then free to leave or stay on to explore independently. On a morning or afternoon tour, you can also visit the Uffizi’s rooftop café for refreshments (own expense).

Evening Tour with Aperitivo or Dinner Upgrade (Tuesdays only, July to September):
If you’ve chosen an evening tour of the Uffizi Gallery, why not upgrade to enjoy an aperitivo or dinner afterward? When your tour ends, follow your guide to a restaurant in nearby Piazza della Signoria, one of the world’s most beautiful squares.

Then, say farewell to your guide and savor a classic Italian aperitivo. Sip on a drink such as a glass of prosecco and enjoy snacks such as focaccine (Italian scones).

Alternatively, upgrade to enjoy a delicious 4-course dinner. Gaze over the illuminated square as you enjoy dishes such as pasta and roasted pork (see the Itinerary for a sample menu), served with mineral water. (Other drinks at own expense).

After relaxing over dinner, make your own way back to your hotel.

We took this tour to see the Birth of Venus painting. It was magical. The Gallery was extremely crowded but I guess that is to be expected. Loved skipping to the front of the line!

The guide was not adequately informed about the paintings. Poor knowledge is not what one is looking out for in a museum guide.

We're more into architecture than art, so we were not sure whether to skip the gallery tour. It was amazing and well worth it. Great job!

The tour was fast and gave good information, but you barely have time to scratch the surface in the Uffizi. Also, depending on the time of year, if you get out of the tour at 6:30 or later, as we did, it is very dark, and hard to find a taxi, or find your way back to your lodging. Be prepared for that.

This tour was excellent. Our guide was extremely knowledgeable at the Uffizi and we were able to get so much more from the tour with her guidance as opposed to doing the museum on our own.

The Uffizi Gallery is a must if you're traveling to Italy! I'm grateful we decided on this tour - our guide was an art historian and she passionately explained what we were seeing beyond the masterpiece itself. Rival artists, the symbolism, etc. Highly recommend!

A good way of seeing all the main treasures, our guide was very good however the group was large and it was very busy. I would still recommend the tour as trying to negotiate the gallery by yourself to see the really famous pieces would take hours.

Depending on when you go or your level of interest in the history of Renaissance art, you might want to skip this tour. Our booked time was 4:15 and by then the ticket lines were smaller than our group. There were about four groups assembling and entering at the same time and the kerfuffle at the tour group entrance was way more chaotic and crowded than the regular entrance. We had gone shopping before and had to check a bag. Not a problem as far as the museum, but our guide was so anxious to get out of the melee that she left us behind, even though she knew we had gone around the corner to the bag check. We caught up with the group inside, but having been ditched, we felt free to ditch back, and were glad we did. We had made it around the museum catching and appreciating the highlights and caught our group on the way back slogging through Filippo Lippi etc ad nauseam. The Uffizi is wonderful, unique, but to the non-art historian and in the context of Italy as a whole, it's a lot of the same.

Depending on when you go and your appetite for Renaissance art, you might want to skip this tour. Our booking was for 4:15 and by then the line for tickets and regular ticket entry was less than the group tour entry, with four tours assembling and entering at the same time. We had gone shopping and had a big bag to check. No problem with the museum, but our guide abandoned us while we are around the corner at the bag check, apparently desperate to get out of the tour group kerfuffle. We caught up with the tour inside, but having been ditched felt free to ditch back and took off on our own. We were glad we did when we came across our group only about a quarter of the way through, after we had been all around catching and enjoying the highlights. The thing about the Uffizi is that it's the world's greatest collection of a certain kind of art, but that's all it is. You have to really want a big dose of art history to enjoy a mini lecture in every room!

We thoroughly enjoyed the tour as we enjoy art but don't have great knowledge. Luckily we arrived at 4pm when we were advised to be there at 4:15 for a 4:30 start....we were organised as soon as we arrived, through security and starting by 4:30 so make sure you arrive early.

We had a small group of 5 people total with Monika who gave a splendid tour at the Uffizi Gallery. She explained several important works of art including the history behind the building of the museum itself. We learned plenty and highly recommend this one as it helps having someone knowledgeable like Monika explaining everything.

I really liked this tour! The art in this museum is amazing! The Uffizi is huge and our tour guide did an awesome job of pointing out the key words of art and key points of history. He was very funny and brought the art to life. We took the evening tour and it ends about 20 minutes before closing which we had these 20 minutes to ourselves for free time. I used this time to walk back to see my favorite pieces a second time around and the rooms were completely empty at this time which was incredible. I stood by myself in front of La Primavera and the Birth of Venus and Michelangelo's Doni Tondo. It was surreal to soak it all in. Leonardo's room is absolutely amazing as well. Definitely would recommend this tour.

The Uffizi is a must see in Florence. The guided tour is the way to go to not miss the major works and to help make your way through the crowds. I've done this tour more than once with different friends and always learn something new I missed the time before.

This was not what I expected, and I was very disappointed! I did not want or expect a guided tour. The guide and helper gave out tickets, badges, headphones, etc. and then took them away from some people, then gave them back. A couple who wanted a guided tour were told that's not what they paid for -- upset, to say the least. Finally got into the building, then waited several minutes for a couple who went to the toilet. Gave up on them and went up the stairs, where we listened to a lecture on the origins of the museum, which I'd already read about in preparation for the trip. I thought I had booked a skip the line ticket so I wouldn't have to stand in line. I wanted to see specific artists and works, so I left the tour group and went on my own. Previous experiences with viator were OK.

Our original tour was cancelled by Viator after we had arrived in Florence, so we had to go on-line and book another tour for the same day, as our itinerary was already full. Of course that tour was more expensive. The duration of the tour was short guided portion inside the Uffizi was a total of 45 minutes. The rest of the time was spent getting into the building, going through security, and during the tour having to wait about 5-10 minutes while guide allowed one of visitors to go to the rest room. She took us to the 6 most popular art/sculpture exhibits which were all very crowded, explained a little and we were done. The guide was knowledgable, but was very rushed. The first 10 minutes inside was hard for her to speak clearly as she was out of breath from climbing the stairs she should stop smoking. Discovered the reason for the short tour at the end-- she had another tour across town that she needed to travel to an be on time. Two of the folks in our group indicated they were part of that tour. Company should not have scheduled the same guide like that. Overall, was not a good tour. My wife and I spent the next 2 hours actually seeing the Uffizi. Would not recommend this particular tour company or guide.

We had a very nice tour of the museum, our guide was really knowledgeable and we thoroughly enjoyed the 1.5 hours of the tour. At the end we were able to turn around and go back through the museum on our own after the tour was finished, which was really nice to be able to do.

The guide was late , causing us to be in line with other groups so not so skip the line tour. Guide had another tour scheduled after ours we felt we were being rushed through the tour. The guide was knowledgeable about the art however was not as passionate as our guide on our Accademia tour.

This tour was amazing! To be honest, I didn't expect much. We just signed up to get in to see the Last Supper by Leonardo. Our guide was so knowledgeable and interesting. She walked us around Milan, explaining the important sites, their history and back-stories. The tour was well organized and our guide unfortunately, I don't remember her name even kindly helped people with transportation and other questions after the tour.

We arrived at the requested time of 2.15pm for a 2.30pm start for our Skip the Line: Uffizi Gallery Tour and no one from our tour company 'CAF Tour and Travel' was there. A tour guide from a rival company took pity on me standing there looking bewildered outside the crowded gallery entrance, checked my printout and said someone would be here soon. We were advised that CAF Tours would be holding up a yellow flag - but 10 minutes later - at 2.25pm there was no yellow flag anywhere to be seen. I went back to the rival tour guide who very nicely showed me to my company - which was now handing out headsets for my tour. I approached them and was told to go to the back of a long queue. Once through this disorganised process, we then met our tour guide, who did not introduce herself by name, had no yellow flag, chewed gum constantly, delivered her commentary in a bored and disinterested manner and said at least 6 times during the tour that we were free to leave anytime we wanted but to hand back the headset first.

The guide on this tour was great. He was quite funny and very knowledgable about the exhibits. I think he said he was an art teacher/lecturer and it showed. We skipped the line and went straight into the gallery without delay. There were quite a few people on the tour but the headsets worked quite well and we could hear what was being said. After the tour you could stay on in the gallery as long as you wanted. We would recommend this tour.

This tour was great. Greeters were prompt. Whispers worked well. The guide was phenomenal. Be aware that even with skip the line and a guide, the Uffizi Gallery is crowded and it is sometimes hard to view the paintings and impossible to linger to reflect.

The guide spent more than 45 minutes in one room Botticelli. The group had to remind him that the place is going to close soon and we better move to the next rooms. We had to run to Da Vinci and Michelangelo ones in the last 5 minutes so could not spend enough here. Otherwise, the guide was super knowledgeable and enthusiastic.

The guide is really experienced and he makes the tour very interesting with his story telling style. We got to see all the significant pieces and he directed us to the area of interest afterwards. I think this is a great way to have introduction to Uffizi a must have and then certainly you can spend a lot more time as acquired for your taste.
