Full Day Tour to Rothenburg

Frankfurt, Germany

Set off on this full day coach tour from Frankfurt to Rothenburg, through the picturesque Spessart mountains. On the banks of the river Main you'll pass Wurzburg before traveling along the Romantic Road.

Rothenburg ob der Tauber, is referred to as Germany's well-preserved 'Jewel of the Middle Ages' with its ramparts, city gates, town hall and Jakobskirche (church) and altar by the famous wood-carver Tilman Riemenschneider.

Upon arrival in Rothenburg, you have some free-time to explore the city or do some shopping in some of the famous historic shops of the city. Afterwards you will have lunch at a typical German restaurant. Afterwards join the city walk with a local guide who will point out major sights of interest. Your coach will leave from the city-square (Schrannenplatz) for your trip back to Frankfurt, later this evening for an approximate arrival at 8pm.

I totally LOVED the guide in Rothenburg, Marianne, telling us details and anechdotes. Rate is only 3 stars because of the bus getting there which was late, I didn't know we were going to stop in so many little towns so I feared I had got into the wrong bus, AND the driver wasn't any good with his English. I think it is VERY important that the driver knows english well the one getting back did and was very nice. Also, the lady in the Frankfurt tourist office should speak to tourists in English. Come on, you're dedicated to tourism and get people from all over the world!

Unfortunately, this was my worst ever tour experience. When I booked via Viator, my booking confirmation gave instructions to collect tickets from the ticket office. However, when I reached the tour office on Sat, they did not have my tickets and said the bus driver will have it. On Sun day of tour, I tried the tour office again in the morning in case the tickets arrived/emailed/faxed overnight. Again, I was told to the bus driver will have it. However, the bus driver didn't allow me on the bus because I didn't have a ticket. I ended up running between the tour office and the bus on multiple trips and be on the phone with the tour operator to try and sort this out. I was abused by the tour operator for delaying the departure of the bus and she said it was my fault. I was eventually allowed on the bus but the communication was terrible. The bus driver told me I won't be going back to Frankfurt that night because the bus goes all the way to Fussen. This was supposed to be a day trip. I spent the next couple of hours on the phone to work out what is going on, where I'm supposed to have this included 2 course lunch, where/when I'm supposed to have this included guided city tour and whether I will be able to get back to Frankfurt that night. The sole reason I booked a tour is because I don't want to deal with all the admin but I think I ended up having to deal with more admin than if I didn't go with a tour!!! This caused considerable stress and frustration and needless to say, I did not have an enjoyable experience at all throughout the day.

Whilst Rothenburg itself is a magical town the 4 hour trip each way from and to a Frankfurt on the coach made for an extremely long day.

This is a great tour as we had only one spare day in Frankfurt. The day starts at 8am the Hauptbanhof and the drive to Rothenburg is picturesque. The guided tour was excellent and highly recommended. Excellent value for money.

EXPECTED A TOUR GUIDE ON THE COACH INSTEAD ONLY GOT THE BUS DRIVER. BUS WAS DOING NORMAL BUS RUN AS WELL AS THE TOUR - COMMUNICATION AND COMMENTARY WAS POOR BUS DRIVER WAS MORE INTERESTED IN CHATTING UP A GIRL IN THE FRONT SEAT. DROVE PASSED ONE STOP OFF POINT AS PARKING WAS NOT TO HIS LIKING. WOULD NOT BOOK AGAIN.

Not worth the money. It was not a direct route. We spent valuable time picking up people and dropping them off at shopping center.Need to have someone else besides a driver to point out the sites;he needed to just concentrate more on the road. Made us nervous. The 20min tour of that one palace w/garden AND toilet stop was ridiculous. The local guide in Rothenburg was excellent.

Rothenburg was worth seeing, beautiful!! We were NOT impressed with the driver, he played up to the young Japanese girls, he was rude and abrupt to one of the men on the bus and he didn't head count which resulted in leaving behind an elderly lady. If it was not for a passenger noticing her bag we would have kept driving. As it was we were a mile away and the driver left 2 minutes earlier then he said. The driver tried to blame the lady. So all this was uncomfortable. We did not like the long 4 hour drive there and back as we spent a lot of time picking up and dropping off other people. Over all ok

This was a long day as we were on the Romantic Road bus most of the time but of course Germany was beautiful even on a freezing cold summer's day!

The tour was great, and the stops, except for the thimble museum were well worth it. The bus drivers, however, were complete jerks. I would recommend the sites but not this touring company. The bus driver left us at the first stop after we were two minutes late. Only after one of the other guests complained did he return for us. On the way back, the company did not put our name down and the bus driver almost left us in Rothenburg. Do not use this touring company.

It was cheaper than full-guided-tour and we enjoyed the trip. Tour bus stops very quickly at several places before arrivng lovely Rothenburg. Rothenburg was good old town to visit as well.

Rothenburg is a fantastic medieval town and well worth the visit. On the way we had short stops at a few towns but bus driver didn't tell us what we were looking at. On the return trip we had a different bus driver and he was quite informative. At Rothenburg we had an 1 1/2 walking tour with a guide. She was quite informative. Would have loved to have spent a lot more time in the area.

We enjoyed the time we spent in Rothenburg. It is truly a beautiful little town filled with character. However, the trip there and back to Frankfurt was not very enjoyable. We rode on a full sized bus with only 10 or so people. It made a few long stops which really made the trip drag out. The driver spoke very little English and we were not sure what was really going on. Be sure to go to Rothenburg, but you might want to find another way to get there!

When I received my package of info and it said 'unaccompanied' tour I was afraid it was just bus transportation. I didn't realize the bus driver would narrate the trip and that we would stop at small towns along the way. Rothenburg was great and well worth the trip. Four hours was not nearly enough time to spend there but if you only have one day to spend this is a great way to do it.

Not quiet what i expected. The tour takes you down the "romantic route" and stops very quickly at a few cities along the way and then ends in Rothenburg. Rothenburg is lovely but not a must see if time is limited.

It's a small county town, almost not too much to see. The bus trip was nicer.

At the tour operator's office in Frankfurt, unfortunately nobody speaks a foreign language. Originally I speak French, but I don't ask so much, at least they should be able to speak English a bit! It seems the French market is not a good one to them, so they have no French documents. It was a nice trip in spite of the rain.
