Freeport Shore Excursion: Half-Day Freeport Tour

Freeport, Bahamas

While you’re in port in Freeport, get a snapshot of the city on this half-day city tour shore excursion. From Millionaires Row to an open-air fruit market, you’ll get a great picture of Freeport. You’ll also visit a local liquor store (shop duty-free!) and the Garden of Groves, a beautiful park with waterfalls, walking paths and blooming flora.

You’ll get a lovely overview of Freeport while you’re in port with this half-day shore excursion. The most vibrant city on Grand Bahama Island is yours to explore, from high-end homes owned by famous names like Count Basie to the international bazaar, where you can shop for souvenirs.

You’ll drive by Millionaire's Row, Grand Bahama's version of Beverly Hills. Then visit a conch vendor and find out how to make conch salad before traveling to Freeport's open-air fruit market.

You’ll travel west to see the picturesque harbor and visit a local liquor shop where you can purchase duty-free rum and more. You’ll also admire the flora, waterfalls, strolling pathways and chapel of the Garden of Groves.

Worry-free Shore Excursion:
We will ensure your timely return to Freeport for this activity. In the rare event your ship has departed, we will arrange for transportation to the next port-of-call. See our terms and conditions for full details.

Spent too much time picking up and dropping off passengers. This was listed as a shore excursion so all pick ups should have been at the port. Driver was taking us to another stop to change buses but we ended up staying on the same bus and the driver became the guide also. Don't know what happened to the original guide. We didn't see everything on the list and he took us to some uncomfortable places. At the end, he dropped us off at a place we weren't supposed to go to get on another bus to get back to port. The tour was scheduled for 3 hours. Because of all the pick ups/drop offs it lasted 5 hours causing us to miss another appointment. Very unprofessional.

Very disappointed in the tour. Driver was supposed to meet us at the ship, which he did, but b ecause it was pouring he didn't get out of his van and we didn't know where he was located. Freeport was destroyed by the hurricane in October and it didn't look like it was in the process of being rebuilt. We were supposed to go to a Perfume Factory, which we did but a member of the tour was allergic to the Perfume so we opted not to get out of the van. We then went to a Candle Factory which was basically a store that had candles you could buy and other miscellaneous junk. Would not recommend this tour. We did go to a beautiful Garden but because of the rain it took away from the atmosphere. There were people there selling their goods and beautiful birds. Not worth the money.

Tour got blended with other tours too much time spent shopping.

Well, I don't know where to begin. We got there on time and waited for our tour bus. No one was there to guide us until 10 minutes after the time expected to meet the tour. We were shoved into a different bus which transported passengers to their hotels, etc. This was time taken from my time paid for the tour. I did not like the experience at all! My children were extremely disappointed and so was I. Won't be taking this tour again for sure!

My experience was fantastic. The tour guide was very considerate and knowledgeable. The only negative comment was that I was unable to call before I got to Freeport, so my regular shuttle was not there to pick us up. We took another company bus and showed the driver our ticket, and he brought us to our tour shuttle. They were waiting for us. I highly recommend this tour.

We took the one-day trip to and from Ft. Lauderdale and Freeport. I think it was worth it as we definitely got a good understanding of what was on the island if we wanted to go back and spend more time. On the Balearia ferry from Ft. Lauderdale, passengers can purchase a round-trip bus ticket to and from the city center once they are on the boat for something like $11 however this would not take us to the different places we were able to see on our viatour half-day excursion. We traveled during the off-season so we had the van and the driver all to ourselves and thus more liberty to spend as much or as little time as we wanted at the different stops. Our driver picked us up right at the port where our ferry came in, near where the cruise liners dock. There are also other options once passengers arrive at the port with cheap shuttles, etc., however they do not cover all the different places you can see with the viatour option. I enjoyed it and would recommend viatour to anyone on a day trip to Freeport.

We got off to a rough start when we left the ship to meet the driver to pick us up and were told by employees of the company who were there for another tour that we were supposed to be there at 8 but I was told 8:45 am on the phone the day before. They did remedy the issue quickly and we were picked up by a shuttle bus who took us to rendezvous with our group (they were still in the middle of picking up people from different hotels so we didn't miss anything). Our tour guide/drive was Snake and he was full of information about the island and places we were going. The gardens were beautiful and the tour there very interesting. We got dumped on by rain when we first arrived but that is obviously not in anyone's control. To those who are cruising, there are two options, a morning and an afternoon tour. The tour took longer than it said so I am glad we booked for the morning as we may not have made it back to the ship in time had we taken the afternoon tour. People on island time are not as concerned about timetables.

I enjoyed my tour. The tour guide was very nice and informative. However, it is advertised that we were going to a Rum distillery and there isn't one on the island. This is false advetisement. In addition, going to the Shops - only 5 shops were open out of 65 - this should be changed to the Marketplace. There was no conch demonstration either - another false advetising. I did not feel that we got our money's worth out of this tour.

I enjoyed the scenery as we picked up other people for our excursion but did not care for the places we stopped to shop. The one place had half or more of it's stores vacant and the other place was a flea market.

There honestly is not much to see on Freeport. The tour was good, but did not include the rum distillery, which is what we wanted to see.

I looked forward to my Freeport tour. Unfortunately, unbeknownst to me, the day I was there for my tour was a holiday and all the business were closed. Had I known this I would have planned a trip to the beach. I feel like it was a wasted couple of hours in Freeport driving around looking at empty buildings. It would be wise to tell customers when they book a tour that it is a holiday and give them the option of going or not. I hope to some day get to Freeport so I can see what I missed last week.
