Freeport Shore Excursion: Lucayan National Park Tour

Freeport, Bahamas

If you are a nature-lover docking in Freeport, this Grand Bahama shore excursion to Lucayan National Park is for you. The park is home to one of the longest known underwater cave systems in the world. You’ll walk along a wooden boardwalk to spectacular Gold Rock Beach, where miles of white sand await you. It’s a great way to escape tourists and see more of the island while you’re in port.

While you’re in port in Freeport, get out of the busy port area and explore a less-crowded part of the island on this shore excursion to Lucayan National Park, home to one of the world's longest explored underwater cave systems. Beautiful, 42-acre (170,000-square meter) Lucayan National Park consists of five ecological zones, as well as caves where Arawak Indians lived before Christopher Columbus discovered the Bahamas.

Stroll through the park and see a variety of wild birds and colorful fish. Walk along a wooden boardwalk to Gold Rock Beach, a fantastic piece of coastline with clear water and soft sand. Look for shells or just relax in this idyllic spot before returning to the cruise ship port.

Worry-free Shore Excursion:
We will ensure your timely return to Freeport for this activity. In the rare event your ship has departed, we will arrange for transportation to the next port-of-call. See our terms and conditions for full details.

If you only have one day in Freeport please know that booking this Tour, you will spend most of the time picking up and dropping off people at hotels on various locations. This Tour is not suitable as a shore excursion, and we actually worried about getting back in time to board. Not good.

Nice tour, great guide. This is a three hour tour, one hour to pick up people at different hotel. One hour at the national park, one hour at the beach, one hour at another beach and then one hour to drop of people. Caves were nice and the beach was good but not like Hawaii. For the price it was good

Did not start well at at all. The voucher which I printed and brought with me had a scheduled meeting time of 10 am. I called their toll free number to confirm that it was 10 am Freeport time and the person I spoke with confirmed it. When we arrived at the set _br/_ meeting location at 10 am, we were accused of being late and holding up the other guests. When I tried to show her the voucher she didn't acknowledge it at all and was irritated that we created a problem for her. Viator messed up but we got the blame.

The local company didn't receive any info regarding my reservation. So, I had to look for their representatives around the port. I couldn't find any. Luckily, I saw one of their buses going to the other side of the port. So I walked all the way to where the bus went. I found many of their representatives on that side of the port. They were happy to accommodate and put me and my family on a bus that transferred us onto the bus that we were supposed to be on. In the end, everything worked out just fine.

Tour guide was very knowledgeable and friendly. Only drawback was the multiple stops to add passengers. Best part was the beach. Beautiful!! Restaurant stop food was very good, large portions, reasonably priced.

This trip should not be listed as a shore excursion from a cruise ship. Of the 5 hours we spent 2.5 driving around to hotels picking up and dropping off other passengers. The first 1.5 hours was in a bus with a broken air conditioning system that had seats with gullies in them and dropping water from the air vents. After almost 20 minutes or more trying to resolve a credit card issue for someone at one of the hotels, the air vent on the roof of the bus was finally popped. Following complaints from the hotel passengers a new bus was secured after 3 more hotel stops. Our new driver, Dwayne, was very friendly and helpful but when he began speaking about 2.5 hours to be spent at 2 beaches we had to ask him where we were going and if we would be back in time for our ship's departure. I had contacted H. Forbes Charter when I saw a beach mentioned on the reviews and asked them if we needed beach or casual clothes. On 2/27/17, Florence _br/_ responded to wear casual clothes so any beach time was spent ill-prepared. Not that we would have had any place to sit on the beach _br/_ since it is still scattered with glass and debris from the hurricane in October. Also, the second part of the boardwalk is closed for repair so only a short walk exists to Gold Beach. The birds supposedly filling the area, amounted to one bird, which was banded and stayed on a railing. The caves amount to a view of water about 10 steps down in two locations. Twenty minutes tops is what is spent here. Very _br/_ misleading for a national park. We then journeyed to another beach - slightly better, but nowhere to sit. Really, this was a place to spend an hour for the hotel people to purchase a meal at the restaurant, the only building in sight. Then we began the hour trek back to drop off all the hotel people. As a visitor of many national parks and eco-friendly spots both in the US and worldwide, this was very disappointing and misleading, and quite frankly a waste of our time in this port. Call this shore excursion, Tour of the Hotels with Restaurant Stop in _br/_ Freeport.

This was our first cruise and first time in the Bahamas. We had a great time on this excursion. The caves were really beautiful and Gold Rock Beach was amazing! The tour guide was very knowledgeable.

The tour guide gave us history on the ride to Lucayan National Park which was informative and allowed you to appreciate the island more. We visited 2 beaches both awesomely beautiful and he even took us on a brief detour on the way back to the port to show us a castle, straw market, and the tourist side of the island. Would definitely recommend this tour, as we were able to relax and enjoy.

Although our thoughts of the national park were different than found, we still enjoyed our excursion. The staff were excellent with their easily identifiable uniforms. They were helpful in getting us in the correct location upon getting off the ship. No problems existed even though we were days late due to our ship being diverted. We would use them again! Thanks for such ease!

This tour was not as described. We were picked up in a large bus that carried overnight passengers to their hotel and then we proceeded to three other hotels to pick up tour members. After a hour and half we were on our way to the caves, which ended up being the old entrance to the underwater cave.

The park is beautiful and the caves worth seeing. My only issue was the lack of response I received when trying to confirm the excursion with the tour operator on where to meet when we came off the ship, etc. We also did not get to see the second beach because the buses were very late getting out of the port confusion on their part and we had to be back for our ship departure at 2:00. Would have loved not to have been rushed and missed some of this excursion.

Our tour guide was Biggy and he did a great job. He was very knowledgable about the history of the island and the Lucayan National Park

Bus driver was excellent: a great job of locating booked customers at the cruise terminal and then providing a great summary history and info session about the island while driving. The locations were as advertised. Overall the tour was even better than expected and it was a great value for the money. It was much cheaper and better than the options provided by our cruise provider.

The tour was everything promised but it did start out weird. There were no instructions on who or where to meet. At the port we asked around and were shuffled from one friendly face to another. We finally found a tour group that made some calls and added us to their group although they did not seem to be expecting us . After that we had a fine time with a terrific tour guide who showed us the ecosystems nd natural history of the island and a spectacular beach right out of the Pirates movie. Finally to a beach club whet we bought the best conch fritters I ever had. He then made a special trip to return us to our dock in plenty of time. So a good experience but some logistical issues. I do wonder what may have happens if this we had not found this tour group in a bustling port. Likely we'd have a very different review.

A great value and a nice way to see The Bahamas. Kevin from Heaven gave us a very knowledgeable tour, including an appreciation for local music. The park and beach took my breath away. Amazing lunch at the restaurant.

The best part about this tour BY FAR were the 2 beaches we stopped at: Gold Rocks Beach and one other beach, both private and PRISTINE. This is where Pirates of the Caribbean was filmed, and it was unbelievably gorgeous! The tour guide was very nice and funny, but I wish we would have rushed more through the park tour on our own quickly to spend more time on the beach! We were gone all day and felt that we got a lot for our money!

We were picked up promptly at the dock and transferred to a smaller tour bus at the Straw Market. We made three additional stops at area hotels to pick up more passengers. We were about 10 miles from the Park when our driver/guide got a call about additional passengers. We waited on the side of the road for 15 minutes and then doubled back to meet a bus with the other folks. After leaving Freeport at 10 AM, we finally arrived at the Park at 11:45. The caves (really just sinkholes) were OK, but the beach was incredible. Would like to have had more time there. On the way back to Freeport we stopped at a nice beachfront restaurant for lunch. The food was good and the prices reasonable. Our driver/guide was great - very knowledgeable and friendly. Would have been 4 stars except for the delays.

This tour is interesting for people who want to learn of the geology of the area. The beach is fantastic but if travelers are looking for paradise by land, they won't find it here....hurricane ravaged..._br/_ Our guide was helpful and informative....many stops to fill the bus on the way really cut into _br/_ oursightseeing time since we only had a few hours....overall, tour is good for those wanting a geographic taste of the are.

About an hour was wasted picking up people at various locations. The cave tour was short (which was good because there isn't much to see) and we got to spend just over an hour at Gold Rock beach, which was beautiful. There were just a handful of people at the beach. I wish I could have spent more time at this beach. What they don't mention is that they also take you to Banana Bay, where there is a local restaurant that you can eat at for lunch. The beach here was a little more crowded and the beach itself wasn't nearly as nice as Gold Rock Beach.

Once we got past some confusion in regard to overbooking and having to wait for a larger bus, we enjoyed the tour. Biggie our Guide was very informative about local history and information. The caves were small but interesting. The walk to the beach nice, Gold Rock Beach was breathtaking!

The cave is not huge, but most caves on islands are not. All of the bats in it was cool and I loved where they dropped you off for lunch. It was a nice resturant on the beach. I would highly recommend the banana bread and conch fritters!

I was very disappointed in this trip. We were given the incorrect time to catch the bus - had to take another bus to catch up to ours. The Lucayan National Park was not at all what I expected - there was no visitor center, the caves were very small (looked more like a small homemade pond with a few rocks around it ) , the bathroom facility was an outhouse. The beach was also a big disappointment - most of the sand area was covered with dead trees, there was no place to change into bathing suits, and we only had about an hour to spend at the beach. Most of the trip it seemed was spent riding on the bus and unfortunately it was through a part of the country with very little to look at. I definitely would not recommend this trip.

Guide was informative, Lucayan NP caves were OK but small the main reason I wanted to go on this excursion was to hang out at Golden Beach and that was great!!!
