Lanzarote Timanfaya and Playa Blanca Day Trip from Fuerteventura
Fuerteventura, Spain
Experience more than just Lanzarote’s beautiful beaches on this full-day trip from Fuerteventura. Explore the awe-inspiring Fire Mountains with an optional camel ride before tracing the jagged Route of the Volcanoes. Then, head to a winery in the heart of the island’s winemaking region to sample some delicious local wine. End your tour with free time at Playa Blanca where you might soak up the sun on the sands or explore the town in search of a delicious, traditional meal.
Make your own way to Corralejo Harbour in northern Fuerteventura to board a ferry for your 30-minute crossing to Lanzarote.
On arrival in Playa Blanca, where your ferry boat docks, enjoy around an hour of free time to refuel with a drink and a snack (own expense) before joining up with your local guide. Then, hop into an air-conditioned coach and relax as you cruise along the island roads, taking in views of pristine beaches and marveling at the distinct volcanic landscape.
Your first stop of the tour is Timanfaya National Park. As you draw closer, feel dwarfed by the towering ring of dormant volcanoes known as the Fire Mountains (Montañas de Fuego), then set off on a 15-minute optional camel ride (own expense) to get a closer look at the incredible ochre landscape.
Return to your coach and head to the top of one of the Fire Mountains. Walk with your guide around the summit and hear how the park lies on top of a residual magma chamber that reaches temperatures of around 752°F (400°C). Then, watch in amazement as your guide performs tricks to demonstrate the immense geothermal energy stirring below.
Next, trace the Route of the Volcanoes, soaking up the stunning views as your coach rumbles along the slopes. As you travel, listen to your guide talk about the 18th-century eruptions that formed the area’s surreal landscape.
Then, continue on to La Geria, Lanzarote’s verdant winemaking region. Gaze out of the window at the endless sea of vineyards, and listen to your guide talk about the methods that local winemakers use to produce the island’s refreshing, fruity wine. Then, visit a local winery and head inside to sample a glass.
After, head back to Playa Blanca. With up to four hours here to spend at your leisure before catching the return ferry, perhaps make your way to the beach to relax on the sands or cool off in the clear waters, or take a seat at one of the many cafes or restaurants to refuel with a drink and some food (own expense).
Your tour then concludes back at Corralejo Harbour in Fuerteventura.
Lovely trip to Timanfaya and surroundings. We really enjoyed the day out._br/_ On the other side, the double deck buses were are little bit claustrophobic, but gladly the trips were short.

Missed the tour due to ill health and curtailing holiday. Viator very kindly refunded me. They have had the money back with the 2 trips I booked in Prague 2 months later. I have used Viator many times in many different locations and every time they have been great.

A difficult day. The ticket voucher we printed online actually needs to be exchanged before departing on the 8am ferry-but the office at the ferry didn't open till 9.15! Lovely Spanish rep for a DIFFERENT excursion company tried to persuade the ferry operators to take us on the voucher but they wouldn't. SO we paid 54 Euro good job we had it! and sailed to Lanzarote. There the agent was very apologetic and photographed the ferry tickets saying our money would be given back in Fuerteventura-so far so good. We then waited for the bus...which didn't come! Back to apologetic lady who is even more apologetic and telephones to discover they had missed us out! Not to be outdone she found another tour-similar but shorter-with another group. The good news...the tour was terrific and the Volcanoes incredible-it was like being on the moon! The guide spoke 3 languages fluently and gave us a wealth of information. So the tour is worth doing-when arrangements go smoothly!

It was a nice tour of the volcano's and you can also ride a camel before the tour for a small charge if you want to. it is really beautiful and well worth doing. We were abit disappointed though as we were told we would have about 1 1/2 hours at the restaurant on the tour however we only had approx 20 minutes and it was very rushed in order for the next tour to come in. When booking the tour it was not very clear as to what we could expect. so a little disappointed but glad we did it.

Tour was interesting for adults, not for children. Every stop we made, we only had a few minutes there, so no time to look around, even in the souvenir shops and no time to collect our photos of the camel rides. No opportunity to stop for food, we took a ferry from Fuerteventura that morning, so we were travelling a long time with children who had nothing to eat all day. Very disappointed with the facilities, would not recommend this tour.
