3-Day Isle of Skye Small-Group Tour from Glasgow

Glasgow, United Kingdom

Immerse yourself in the wild beauty of the Scottish Highlands and the Isle of Skye on a three-day small-group excursion from Glasgow. In three days, you'll explore some of the most dramatic and beautiful scenery in the Highlands, and visit the second-largest island off Scotland’s west coast, the magical Isle of Skye.

This three-day trip from Glasgow to the Isle of Skye and the Scottish Highlands will show you Scotland’s most beautiful scenery. Tour highlights include Glencoe, the Lochaber region around Fort William, Eilean Donan Castle (set of the movie Highlander) and over the sea to the Isle of Skye, where you'll stay in the picturesque harbor town of Portree.

You'll spend the entire second day on Skye, exploring the wild north of the island, the Old Man of Storr, the mountain pass of the Quiraing and Skye's most westerly point at Neist.

On the third day, you'll return to the mainland and travel through the Five Sisters of Kintail. You’ll visit eerie Loch Ness (boat trips are available April to October), where you can try to spot the Loch Ness Monster, before making your way to the central Highlands and Glasgow.

With a maximum group size of 16 passengers, this special trip allows you to have memorable and personal experience. You'll travel in a comfortable air-conditioned minivan and receive individual attention from your expert driver/guide. Traveling in a small group means you can reach out-of-the-way places to discover the real Scotland!

Our tour was led by Ian who provided insightful commentary about the history, landscape, culture and humor of Scotland. Ian strove to meet the requests of all participants and demonstrated great flexibility when weather prevented some planned visits. In one instance, due to inclement weather, he was able to secure a whisky tasting to replace a visit to an outdoor area we were all impressed and satisfied. All three members of our family were thoroughly enjoyed and appreciated the tour and the clear effort to make this a memorable part of our visit to Scotland.

If you travel to Scotland, you MUST visit the Isle of Skye...and what better way to do this than with a private tour guide who takes care of all the details!!! We booked through Viator, which booked us with Rabbis. Our guide was John....very knowledgeable, professional, music connoisseur, and all around witty! My husband and I are already planning to tour Ireland next year and we will definitely be booking this through Viator and Rabbis. We literally showed up at the bus on day 1 and did not have to worry about ANYTHING...John took care of all the details. The money paid is very very very much worth the it!!! I am a very experienced global traveler and have high expectations....my expectations were definitely met. My husband and I will be going back to Scotland as well...please go to the Isle of Skye...you will remember the landscape views for the rest of your life.

We had the best time with Fraser! He was a wonderful storyteller! He found unique activities for us - the walk to Coral Beach and the Ferry crossing, the Isle of Skye Brewery. His playlist and history lessons helped Scotland come alive for us!

This tour was awesome! There is so much packed into 3 days, it's hard to even pick a favorite: castles, sea cliffs, whisky tasting, more! Even with wind and rain for two of the days, we still had a great time. The tour guide/driver, Grant, was fantastic and was very engaging with us in pointing out various things we passed, and providing us with history of the area. He also threw in a few jokes. Overall, the entire tour was amazing and I would do it again in a heartbeat and highly recommend it to anyone looking to explore Scotland.

We really enjoyed this tour to the Isle of Skye. Ian our driver/guide was very, very knowledgeable of scotland history and of the sites we stopped to visit as well as of those we went through. Ian had interesting information about our surroundings as well such as the evolution of the vegetation and the forest and the geology of Scotland. He also shared with us Scottish music and poems. The topics he discussed were so varied that everyone could find something of interest for them personally. We had a good group of 12 adults and everyone was very respectful of others and of the schedule. Ian made many stops for pictures, food or toilet breaks. On a day when the weather was less cooperative, he had a plan to keep us busy and entertained. During the return trip, an accident on the motorway required Ian to find an alternate way back to Glasgow. Despite this inconvenience, he remained calm and took us through different towns than those initially planned. All in all it was a great tour which I strongly recommend.

The trip was one of a unique kind. The bus was comfortable. Window Glass is washed properly so you take photos while on the move. Should it get dirty with rain drops, the driver will willingly clean it for you. The Driver was amazing, very informative and helpful._br/_ I never though of going on trip so far north in November 2016 but it was one of my best tours ever. Cold but the views just makes you forget. I highly recommend.

We had a great time, the weather didn't cooperate so some things we couldn't see. I'm still glad we went, the Highlands are gorgeous. Our tour guide Alex was amazing and made the trip!

It was all about Iain, our tour guide. He was awesome. The coach was comfortable. The stops were frequent. The scenery was fantastic and the stories and music just made it interesting. My only wish would be for wifi on the coaches so to be able to look up things for more information. Lunch breaks were sometimes a bit short when the villages were crowded. Our bed and breakfast was superb as well. Comfortable rooms, private entrance, delicious breakfasts at convenient times. This was Balloch in Portree. the whole process from booking the tour to return to our hotel was seamless and professional.

Such a lovely tour! I had been to the highlands before but I had no idea how gorgeous Skye is. We had mixed weather: gorgeous and sunny one day, rainy and cold the next, but our guide Graham always had back-up plans and adapted the schedule accordingly. This was my second tour through Rabbie's and I was just as pleased with this one as I was with the one-day highlands tour from Edinburgh. My one complaint is that the accommodations in Portree were not ideal. I would call them motel-quality at best loud with awful mattresses and a lingering telltale smell that smoking used to be allowed there. However, I understand that options in Portree are limited and that Rabbie's does their best, and the location was great. And to be fair, we didn't spend much time at the hotel anyway. I would simply caution others to consider booking their own accommodations if they want someplace a bit more comfortable. Many thanks to Rabbie's and Graham for an unforgettable adventure!

Review by:   Deborah B,    June 2016 Review: 2 star rating: It was OK, but could have been better
Enjoyed the group and B and B but I was very disappointed not to visit inside any castles, the Loch Ness boat ride or Fairie pools due to picking up people at an undesignated spot. Guide was nice but chattered and played music non-stop. As a travel writer, it would have been nice to have quiet sometime.

The tour was fantastic with a great tour guide Ian! He was very knowledgeable on the history of Scotland! The weather could not have been better! My only complaint is that I chose the hotel option on the water for which I paid extra . My daughter and I ended up in a tiny hotel room above a pub.

This tour was fabulous! I was travelling with my son who is studying at the University of Glasgow. We each had a wonderful time. Our tour guide and driver was John. He was superb. We saw much more and learned much more about Scotland than I dreamed we would on a small bus this trip to Isle of Skye. The seats were comfortable and each seat offered an excellent view. The many stops provided us with opportunities to explore the area. Our favorite part was Skye itself and the lodging at the guest house. I would definitely do this trip again. I would recommend it to anyone.

Great trip! Tour guide John was funny, knowledgeable, and engaging. Rode a great local ferry. Weather during our day on Skye was pretty gray, but we still had a great time. We saw a lot more of the Highlands on this trip than I expected, which was terrific. If you've never been, go with the local tour operator!

This was an amazing tour, only regret is that I wasn't on a 5 day tour. 3 days is not enough in the Scottish Highlands it is a beautiful and magical place. I highly recommend this tour with Rabbie's and our awesome guide Murray!

My daughter and I chose this tour following a 12 day tour. We really wanted to go to Skye and Eilean Donan Castle. We loved getting an opportunity to see more of the Highlands so beautiful. This was truly a highlight of our 18 days in the UK! Ian - our tour guide and bus driver was very good. He had many stories and lots of information to share about the areas we drove through and to. Skye was absolutely beautiful!!! The weather was perfect on our full day on the island. I took so many pictures! Old Man Storr, the beautiful Coast, The Quaraing, Neist Point, Kilt Rock and the Fairy Glenn! OH MY....it was all soooo beautiful. Portree was a friendly and quaint town and our Bed and Breakfast was very nice. I highly recommend this tour!

A wonderful three day trip not to be missed! Our tour guide was delightful and extremely knowledgeable. The accommodations were more than what we were expecting as our hotel was right on the harbor. The trip was well balanced and the scenery was spectacular. It was the perfect introduction to Scotland.

Ian was a fantastic guide with lots of historical knowledge and stories. He was a great story teller who knew when to start the story so that he finished it just as he pulled into the parking spot. Skye is beautiful!! Due to rain and winds we didn't get to hike as much as we would have liked, but that is no fault of the Rabbies tour company, If you go, I do hope that you are fortunate to have Ian as a guide!

This tour, locally run, was outstanding. OUr guide, John Wales, was extremely knowledgeable about the history of the area and really brought it alive to us, interspersing his narrative with very relevant music. The small group tour was an excellent way to go and I would do it again in a minute. The only issue I had was that it would have been nice to have just a little more time on the lunch stops in case you actually wanted to buy something other than lunch, but this was minor compared to the overall wonderful tour with a stellar guide!

Our driver/guide, John McDermott was born for the job. He has a very pleasant and relaxing personality important when you are spending 10 hours a day with the guy. The 16 seat minivan enabled us to go on back roads where the big coaches of other companies could never go. Flexible, personalized, and professional service in every aspect of this trip.

This was one of the best tours I've ever taken! The tour guide, John McDermott was wonderful! He was very authentic in his kilt and being from Glasgow, and really knew his history, geography and cultural information. It was a small group and he accommodated all our interests. Thanks!

Our tour guide John was awesome! I would highly recommend this tour. The scenery was amazing and we went through back roads that the big coaches can't go. Loved the stories and music themed to the areas we visited. B and B was lovely. We paid for the ferry £1(should have been included) not a big deal.

Enjoyed the trip despite the weather. The driver, John, was great. My only beef is with the lack of pre-tour info from Viatour. We only found out about luggage maximums when we checked in. It wasn't a problem for us but it could have been!

Had the most wonderful time, even with one windy/raining day - still spectacular. Only had 8 on our trip which made it extremely comfortable, but even with a full van I think it would be OK. Our Guide Graham was truly amazing, nothing was too much of an issue, his knowledge of the area and history was outstanding. Our B and B was fantastic, modern and the owners very hospitable. Would highly recommend this trip to anyone.

A good trip. Lovely bus. safe driver. A little unhappy with the accommodation in Portree- It was the worst B and B of our whole time in Scotland. Breakfast not up to standard. Tour would have been improved with more information sharing. I wanted to know more about the life of the people there from history to present time. There were a lot of photo stops. Constant music became a little tedious. Skye is a wonderful place and well worth the visit.

Our driver, Andrew, was excellent and the nice touch of him growing up on Skye was brilliant. Lent a lot of credibility to his stories. My son and I enjoyed ourselves tremendously. The B and B was lovely, great shower and breakfast was plentiful and delicious! One thing to suggest is the trip back to Glasgow could have been shorter. There were too many stops on the way back, it felt like we were stopping for the sake of stopping. Would have preferred to get back to Glasgow by 5:00 personally. Instead it was closer to 6:30. Long day but the trip overall was one for the bucket list!

My husband and I booked this tour on a whim. Thank you James (our tour guide) for a fantastic time. We stayed in the Pink Guest House accommodation (if you are in the Isle of Skye, you must stay here). We were blessed with wonderful weather (perhaps we brought it with us) so touring every day was brilliant. A wonderful experience which I would recommend to all..... We recommend you eat out at the local restaurants as the quality in all restaurants was fantastic.

Isle of Sky tour was great, our bus driver, George, had interesting stories and music and took us to some amazing places we wouldn't have reached in a bigger bus. Certainly glad I could enjoy the scenery and not worry about driving.

The trip into the highlands and skye with rabbies tour went well for the most part. The driver "sir john" was accommodating and entertaining. He played appropriate music highlighting places we visited. His stories were good and his kilts interesting. His directions as to eateries along the way directed us to good food and pleasant environments. Historical information at times was lacking. We were assigned to a bed and breakfast that was lovely. The owner ran a spotless facility probably the cleanest on our Scottish trip, however, it was a twenty minute walk into town. The walk in was not a problem as it was all downhill but the walk back uphill for folks 70 plus was too much especially in the wind and rain. So both nights a taxi was hired at the cost of £5 about $8.50 in american money. That added cost to the trip plus admission to the castle which we thought was included put a slight damper on the experience. We had wind and at times torrential rains on each day so be prepared with waterproof rain gear. Umbrellas are of little use. Some of the rain enhanced the experience ie the opportunity to see the rushing waters streaming down the mountains into whitewater rivers splashing against arched cobblestone bridges. Be sure to eat at sea breeze in portee skip the lower deck certainly the worst bathroom facility on our trip so so food. Push to see the fairy pools and a ferry crossing, both missed on our trip.

We had a wonderful guide who made the tour interesting and flexible. He also played a fantastic sound track that added to the beauty of the landscape. The small bus was great as there were not too many of us, in all we were eleven which was perfect. It would be good though if there were coat hooks on the back of the seats and a rubbish bag in the bus. This is just a small suggestion. Everything else was great including the bread and breakfast guest house, the kindness of the local pub owner and generally the friendly atmosphere where ever we went.
