Loch Ness, Glencoe and the Highlands Small Group Day Trip from Glasgow

Glasgow, United Kingdom

Take the high road to the Scottish Highlands and Loch Ness on a small group day trip from Glasgow. You'll travel through beautiful Glencoe, admire the spectacular Highlands and spend time at Scotland's famous Loch Ness an absolute must on any visit to Scotland!

With a maximum group size of 16 passengers, you are sure to have a memorable and personal experience on this special day trip to the Scottish Highlands. Traveling in a small group means you can reach out-of-the-way places to discover the real Scotland!

Head north towards the Highlands along the "bonnie, bonnie" banks of Loch Lomond - Scotland's largest Loch. Continue into the Highlands to reach the most dramatic of all Highland glens, Glencoe. This area is steeped in history, and you will hear the truth about the infamous 1692 massacre of Clan MacDonald.

Journeying through Fort William, site of the military post built during the Jacobite Rebellions in the 18th century, you'll continue up the Great Glen, between Fort William and Inverness.

After lunch at Fort Augustus on the shores of Loch Ness, you have the option of taking an hour-long cruise on the loch (not included).

Head back through Inverness, the Cairngorms National Park, and the countryside, where the TV series Monarch of the Glen was filmed. Continuing over the Drummochter Summit, where herds of red deer often graze, you'll visit the Victorian town of Pitlochry.

Continue through Perthshire and past Stirling Castle and the Wallace Monument, commemorating Scotland's great hero William Wallace, played by Mel Gibson in the Oscar-winning movie Braveheart. Then just a short drive back to Glasgow.

The Scottish Highlands and Islands are Europe's last great wilderness! This personalized tour is as close as you can get to touring in your own car, with the added benefit of gaining intimate knowledge of Scotland. Traveling in a small group means you can take lots of stops and reach "out of the way" places, giving you more time off the bus to discover the real Scotland.

There was A LOT of driving in this tour, but we had really good weather and we were able to take the Loch Ness cruise which was pretty cool. We wish there was more time to get off the boat and see the castle, but due to time restraints we couldnt. I dont feel like we could have went to Scotland without seeing the Loch Ness, but it was a long time in the bus.

This tour was incredible. Our driver/tour guide was safe and informative. He played fun music the entire trip and was patient with us during stops to take pictures. The small group van was great - as opposed to a larger bus. I enjoyed the boat ride on the water. Highly recommend!

This was a great all-day trip to the northern Scottish Highlands, Glencoe and Lock Ness. The meeting area is simply at an address in the city center. The 16-passenger bus is comfy but not too roomy like most things in the UK :- Our driver was very informative, talkative and willing to ask any and all questions. The trip was smooth and free of problems. The great thing about these guided trips is not having to drive and being able to stay focused on the sights out the huge windows or simply taking a nap on the long trip back to the city. This, and another trip a week earlier, will account for most of our photo memories from this trip!

A great tour! Scotland is so beautiful! Our guide/driver, John, made the long trip very pleasant - played music, told us about Scotland, made jokes! : It was an amazing experience and I definitely recommend this tour!

Wonderful experience with Graham! He was highly professional and so very knowledgeable! The weather was dreadful, but we had a great time and learned a lot! We had an emergency situation during our trip that was handled so well! As the snow came pouring down, a large bird crashed into the window of the bus, shattering the windshield. Graham was very calm and carefully pulled over to the side of the road. Because it was not safe to continue our journey, the company tried to send a replacement van. Due to timing and the lateness of the day, they were unable to get a van out to us in a reasonable amount of time, they instead sent taxis to take all the passengers back to Glasgow. _br/_ I would highly recommend this tour to anyone wanting a flavor of these areas and getting big bang for their buck, so to speak. We saw a lot and learned a lot in a short amount of time. The bus was very comfortable and the group size very manageable. _br/_ Again, highly recommend!

Wow, what can I say. The highlands were surreal, the stops we did on our way to Loch Ness was beautiful. Great change from the city life in Glasgow. Fantastic tour guide, knowledgable and fun! Highly recommended

This tour was the highlight of our stay in Scotland. Our driver/tour guide John was excellent and we would score him 12 out of 10. He was very knowledgeable and entertaining and went out of his way to try and accommodate individual requests. Thoroughly recommend thus tour to a beautiful part of Scotland.

What a wonderful tour! Our tour guide, Graham, was incredibly sweet, funny, and so knowledgeable. He could answer all of our questions! The van is comfortable, but take note that a large portion of the trip is driving in the van. However, the views are incredible, and Graham kept us entertained with stories, history, and music. The stops we made along the way were breathtaking.

An excellent way to see the Highlands and Loch Ness in a compressed timeframe. Our guide from Rabbie Tours was exceptional - both knowledgeable, and in attending to guest comfort and safety navigating twists and turns in rain/snow conditions in a Mercedes van, a small group environment kept things on schedule. Scenery is amazing.

My friend and I visited Scotland last week. Most of our time was in Edinburgh and Glasgow so since we were in big cities for the majority of our trip, this tour was the perfect excursion to get out of that environment and experience the Scottish Highlands. I HIGHLY recommend this tour! Our tour guide, Frasier, was EXCELLENT! So knowledgeable with a great personality! He was also very good at being prompt and making sure we left each place on time in order to get to all the stops that we needed to get to. I really appreciate that because if I book a tour, I want to make the most of that tour. Visiting the three sisters of Glencoe was a highlight - breathtaking mountains! Loch Ness was also great. We spent the extra money to take the Loch Ness cruise and we loved it! It was actually very relaxing and just fun to think that there just might be a water creature out there. : This tour is a very long day with a lot of travel time in the bus so make sure to get a good night's sleep beforehand. But it's also great because you cover a LOT of land in one day. 5 Stars from me!

Graham was our driver, DJ and tour guide throughout the trip. His deep knowledge on the topics brought up and the way he explains it really made the trip fun and informative. Extra stops were made for really beautiful shots and the view of Loch Ness from the boat (£14, not incl.) was breathtaking.

We had a full day of fun. The companys name was Rabbies and our guide Jim? was a absolutely wonderful scottish man that had big knowledge about Scotland and entertained us with his stories during the day. He told us about Scotlands history freedom battles and screamed freedom! after every story. Its a full day of seeing beautiful highland landscapes, meet the Loch Ness beast, eat whiskey ice cream. Enough time was given on each stop to take pictures and enjoy the scenery. The small group were perfect, max 16 people. We can really recommend this trip, it was the highlight of our trip to beautiful Scotland.

The tour was a really enjoyable way to spend the day. The bus was easy to find in Glasgow, the pick up and departure process was very efficient. Graham, our guide, was phenomenal -- he shared all kinds of information about Scotland and mixed in humor too. I particularly enjoyed that he played music throughout that tour that specifically supplement the Scottish history and stories he told and I especially loved that he played Skyfall as he told us about and drove us on the road used in the Skyfall movie I'm not a big 007 fan, but I had seen Skyfall. That was one of the cool an unexpected things about the tour, it covered both historical Scotland and locations that have been used in movies. Personally, I got a little bored with all the stops along the way I got to a point where I was like 'more mountains, lakes...got it but I will admit it was pretty. Our tour was also in December so we working with limited daylight and Graham adjusted to that, particularly on the way home suggesting that we stop at a closer town on the way home while there was still daylight rather than spending a lot of time at a town farther along since it would be completely dark when we got there and everything would be closed our tour was on a Sunday so many shops and eateries in the small towns we stopped in throughout the day were closed. At Loch Ness, my friend and I decided not to take part in the add on castle or boat tours they weren't really ideal options in December due to the weather, instead we had lunch at the café in Loch Ness which overlooked the Loch. There weren't a lot of food options but so it's not good if you're on special diets, etc. which I'm not, but it was relaxing. The gift shop there is huge --we spent a good amount of time shopping and then walked down to the Loch. By the time we did that, it was time to get back on the bus and head back. I have taken several Viator tours in different countries and they never disappoint, this one was no exception. The tours are small, personal, and fluid meaning they fit the crowd --for instance, during the drive I asked Graham if we'd see hairy cows --we'd seen a lot sheep, horses and normal cows but not Scottish hairy cows. Graham said there were sometimes cows out near the road and if that happened and there was a place to stop, he'd pull over so we could get out and see them. He would also call out if he saw them as would other passengers on the bus. Unfortunately, all of the ones we saw were not close to the road and there was nowhere to pull over so we didn't get to stop but I appreciated that that was an option.

I went on a 30 day holiday across 7 countries and this tour was hands down the best guided tour we had. Not only that, it was also the cheapest. Frasier was beyond informative, able to give an entire wealth of information on a moments notice, fantastic guide (deserves a bonus ;) ). More than 5 stars

This tour was great! John (our driver and guide) was both hilarious and interesting. The tour was well executed and planned. There are USB plugs for charging which is great. The one downside is no WiFi on the bus when it’s dark out and you can’t see anything. The views were amazing and such a fun trip

Very great tour, very informative...so much time spent in the vehicle though. I was sad that we didn't have as much time at the sights vs vehicle time. I will say, the stops we had were great, and allowed for at least 30mins-1hour of time...a good chunk of time to explore, get a good whiskey, and buy some great items. The Nessy tour was fantastic, but bring cash for the bar! I also recommend going to another restaurant vs the one recommended when you are done with the Nessy tour...it was a very long wait, the food was mediocre, with the servers not at all concerned with the time it takes to order/serve food. Enjoy!!

Our guide, Graham was just amazing and so knowledgeable, he explained the history so well and it was really interesting, I enjoyed every moment of this tour. It was raining a bit the young undistilled wisky :D but, still the place was incredible and the stunning views along the drive route was just perfect. The songs and Scottish music in between the history details by Graham made the trip more fun and interesting. The highlands was the highlight of our trip to Scotland! I would recommend this tour for all who visit Scotland and Thanks a lot Graham for showing the amazing places. I loved it :

This tour was fantastic. We were picked up at the appointed site in a timely manner. The bus ride was very comfortable especially important when most of your time is spent in the bus in order to see everything in the itinerary. Our tour guide Bobby a real Scot was a wealth of information sharing insightful stories and historical significance of the places we stopped to take a picture. Seeing the highlands was absolutely breathtaking made it more mystical with the mist and rain. We opted to take the boat ride to Loch Ness own expense and it took us to Urquhart castle and back nothing really exciting and Nessie was a no show LOL. We stop at Fort Augustus for lunch and shopping. We ate at Bothy restaurant the only one that was open for lunch and was seated immediately. Your choice of restaurant is very limited and it can get busy since it's a stopping point for all of the tour buses. Then onward to Inverness, Cairngorms National Park, and a glimpse of Stirling castle. It was an enjoyable, educational, exhausting tour but I will take it again in a heartbeat.

This is a wonderful tour! While it is a long day, the time flies by and is packed with stops along the way. The tour guide also gives plenty of information about the country along the route and even plays traditional Scottish music in the van, providing a history of the music as well. This is a great way to see the countryside and get some history of Scotland. I highly recommend!

It was a long day, but just about the only way to cover the distance to see the highlands on one trip. We would not have been able to do it in the same day in a rental car even supposing we thought we could manage to safely drive on the left. The bus was spacious with easy views from the windows. We only had to ride and see the sights and listen. There was also plenty of time to ask questions._br/_ Our tour guide's name was Grant. He had a good sense of timing for the length of the trip, where we needed to get to see sites in the highlands, the boat ride on Loch Ness, coffee breaks and lunch. That was all handled extremely well especialy when you consider more than half the passengers not speaking the same language, a traffic jam on the highway near the beginning and several random downpours. He also had a great sense of humor. Grant gave us a good mix of music from Scotland while connecting what we were seeing with the history of the country in general and events specific to that area. My favorite stop was in Pitlochry. It is a smallish town with walkable streets, a good selection of shops including The Christmas Emporium and Scotch Corner for ice cream, clothing, and eateries. We reached it near halfway through the journey. Take this tour for a great overview of Scotland!

The trip was perfect mix of history, culture and scenery. Our tour guide was knowledgeable and pointed out places of historic interest_br/_ The cruise of Loch Ness optional was a disappointment and I would not recommend it. A trip to Scotland would not be complete without a trip to the Highlands

What a great day. The Loch Ness, Glencoe, and Highlands tour is a perfect way to see these sights when you can't drive there yourself._br/_ We took this tour on our second day in Glasgow, and we loved every minute of it._br/_ The coaches are not too large and very comfortable, and there are plenty of stops along the way for coffee, pictures, and loo breaks._br/_ Our tour guide, Graham, was the best. Very personable and full of insightful stories and historical information as we drove along. And, he played a wonderful selection of Scottish music as well._br/_ Our lunch stop was in the town of Fort Augustus, and we chose The Bothy Restaurant, where I decided to try Haggis for the first time._br/_ Urquhart Castle, a boat ride to look for Nessie, and all of the friendly people we met made for a wonderful day._br/_ Thank You Graham, and Thank You Rabbie's for a wonderful day in the Highlands

This tour was brilliant! We enjoyed our entire day. Nicola, our guide was so informative providing history and stories all along the route. The stops were well timed and exactly what were wanted to see._br/_ The inclusion of Scottish music was such an unexpected surprise._br/_ Would recommend this tour to everyone, especially for the value and would take a Rabbie's Tour again if we visit the U.K._br/_ Awesome. Best tour we've ever taken on any vacation._br/_ Thanks for a great day.

Excellent tour! - the highlight of my 2 week vacation in the UK. Our guide Ian was excellent - informative, funny, and very thoughtful about our comfort making sure we had enough stops for both comfort and taking photos. A cruise on Loch Ness was optional and I encourage everyone to say Yes! Sadly, we did not see Nessie, but Ian kept us entertained with stories of her sighting.

our tour guide Stuart was really nice kept saying he was the stand in for Brad Pitt when he filmed the zombbie movie there...as we were driving to Fort William Start pulled down a little side street where some old inns that would have housed soldiers from 200 years ago....there was a bout 15 wild deer eating by the side of the road...what a special treat....we made another photo stop at the 3 sisters- very different from the ones in the Blue mountains in Australia..but nice to see the difference_br/_ we stopped at Lock Lommond for photos and a loo break ,very pretty....by the time we got to Loch ness it was raining a little while we were inside having lunch but stopped when we came outside to walk down to the Loch...no we did not see Nessy... but we got photos with a guy in full dress playing the bag pipes....after driving the full length of the loch we stopped at the top of a hill to see the ruins of a castle on the waters edge.......last stop in Glencoe nice little town.

Great tour to Loch Ness with amazing stops along the way. Fraser is a great guide with expansive knowledge of Scotish/English history. Very personable--but, being a genuine Scot, he will need to work on his language skills with forieng tourists :. I think simply slowing down might help. Great tour in all.
