Stirling Castle, Loch Lomond and Whisky Trail Small Group Day Trip from Glasgow

Glasgow, United Kingdom

Travel to Stirling Castle and Loch Lomond in style and enjoy a wee dram of whisky on a small-group tour from Glasgow. With a maximum group size of 16 passengers, you are sure to have a memorable and personal experience on this special excursion to Stirling and Loch Lomond.

Stirling Castle was Scotland's most important medieval stronghold and is set high on a volcanic outcrop. There has been fortification on the rock since 1000 BC, as it guards the main route north into the Scottish Highlands. You have the option of visiting the castle to see some of the finest Renaissance architecture in Scotland.

Leaving Stirling, you'll travel past Doune Castle, Callander and into the Trossachs, an area popularized by authors such as Sir Walter Scott and Daniel Defoe. This is also the territory of Rob Roy MacGregor, Scotland's Robin Hood. The tour stops for a leisurely lunch (own expense) outside the village of Aberfoyle.

After lunch, continue to the bonnie banks of Loch Lomond, Scotland's largest loch where you can enjoy a walk before heading to the picturesque Distillery of Glengoyne. You can choose to take an optional tour of the distillery (additional cost) or visit the shop.

The Scottish Highlands and Islands are Europe's last great wilderness! This personalized tour is as close as you can get to touring in your own car, with the added benefit of gaining intimate knowledge of Scotland. Traveling in a small group means you can take lots of stops and reach "out of the way" places, giving you more time off the bus to discover the real Scotland.

Great tour and such a nice day! Highly recommend getting out of Glasgow to see the countryside. Stirling Castle is amazing. The scenery around the loch was so beautiful. The whisky stop was really very cool. Ian was our guide and he did a great job. So much history and stories shared. We all have very fond memories of him as a guide. It was such a nice day and thank you to Ian for the memories you left us with.

Enjoyed the tour. The guide kept us on schedule without rushing. Explained in detail what we were seeing and even provided music. The package included what you would want to see in a day trip within Scotland. Easy to find the shuttle downtown and the driver even dropped us off near a cab when the tour was over._br/_ Harry - Black Mountain, NC USA

Our tour guide was great and imparted lots of interesting facts and stories to us. We were a little ahead of ourselves, so we also got a quick drive by the castle where they filmed the Monty Python movie. Stirling Castle was interesting with people dressed up who would tell you about their character's life at the castle. Sort of a low key Walt Disney experience, but very effective. The whiskey tour was well organized and very interesting. We had an enjoyable day.

The castle was interesting. While Loch Lomond is beautiful, it would have been better if the guide had stopped where there is a boat trip on the lake instead of in a quiet area. The whiskey tour was well done.

On a small group tour, the driver/guide often spells the difference between success and failure. Our driver Jim was, to put it succinctly, a gem. Funny, personable, knowledgeable. Hes a credit to his craft. I recommend this tour highly!

A fun way to see a very historic castle that has great meaning for many. The tour driver was fun and informative. Only wish we had more time at Loch Lomand to actually get out on the water or do some hiking.

It was an overcast and drizzling day no surprise there-it is Scotland afterall, but that didn't put a damper on a great tour! Throughly enjoyed the relaxing pace. Our guide was very knowledgeable and entertaining as well. Highly recommended this tour to all.

This was a fantastic day trip. We had Fraser as a guide. He was knowledgeable, friendly, and entertaining. He brought us to a couple of extra stops to see the Highland cows and an extra castle. I highly recommend taking the whiskey tour. It was inexpensive and the whiskey was delicious!

Stirling Castle was good, Loch Lomond was good- spent too much time in the whisky trail. Again more details required when describing the tour.

Graham was our tour guide and he was amazing! His stories and humor were spot on. The tour itself was wonderful. Stirling Castle was wonderful, but the church where James the VI of Scotland was crowned! and graveyard were unforgettable. The pickup and drop off were easy and on time. The coach was fairly comfortable, but it was a bit stuffy and warm at times. The little town we went to for lunch was ok. We loved the stop at Loch Lomand and wished it was longer! And the distillery tour was wonderful. Thanks Graham!

This is a really good day trip tour. It's only a short drive our of Glasgow to Stirling Castle and during the drive, the tour guide informed us about the history of Glasgow and the Scottish monarchy. We had lunch in a small at a venue of our choice in Aberfoyle, I highly recommend the Faerie Tree Inn. We did a walk up to a look out at Loch Lomand which had some great views. The walk itself isn't too difficult. The final stop at the distillery was the highlight. The free whiskey was amazing and it's definitely worth paying extra for a second nip at the end of the tour.

Awesome jam packed day that never felt rushed. Tour guide was local and charming - had great stories about Scotland and all the places we visited. Each stop had plenty of time to explore and we ended up with a jovial crowd. Whenever possible book small tour groups - things always seem to be less stressed. Would highly recommend this tour for the sights and wide range of stops.

Sterling Castle was wonderful. It was really interesting to see the rooms done up in a way they originally would have looked. Could have used a little more time there. Loved the drive through the highlands. We had a chance to either walk back to the town or get a ride.We chose the lovely 40 minute trail walk along the Bonnie Banks of Loch Lomond. We learned about single malt whisky vs blended, on the Whisky Tour portion.. All in all, a fun tour.

Great guides, lots of stops and very interesting places along the way. The guide was perfectly witty and positive about Scotland. She made several recommendation about each stop and our experience was tremendous! The whiskey tour was much more interesting than we had thought, but the Castle and Loch were incredibly well done!

Excellent trip - excellent guide sorry I am not good remembering names. Our guide brought the history alive as we travelled to and fro along the highways. She didn't like the Mel Gibson movie Braveheart - but did fill us in on the errors in the film.

Had a great day, Dougie our tour guide was fabulous, such a wealth of information, he gave us a very interesting Scottish history lesson, he was very entertaining. _br/_ The castle was very interesting, we were in time to join a guided tour. Loch Lomand was beautiful and the whiskey tour at the end was very tasty._br/_ I would highly recommend this tour if you want to see some of the Highland's beautiful scenery and quaint little towns, and if you get Dougie as your guide, well that's a bonus.

Good introduction to Scotland when you are there for the first time or for a few days: balanced day tour including castles, landscape and whisky distillery. Very professional management of the group, schedule and information. You feel safe and comfortable even if you know nobody in the group before. Our driver and guide was Juliet. Many thanks to her for a smooth trip!_br/_ I would have liked more time at Stirling Castle and time to visit the near-by house-museum included in the entry ticket. 90 minute are not enough there, much to see and experience.

All in all a very nice tour. The driver/guide was well informed and very accommodating. It would have been nice to have a bit more time to fully tour Sterling Castle. We especially enjoyed the Glengoyne Distillery tour...even though our guide with a Russian accent was a bit difficult to understand at times. Oh well, the wee drams of whiskey made all things fine again. The shop at Glengoyne was very nice as well. A good value and a full day of sightseeing in a comfortable coach.

We recently took this trip and thoroughly enjoyed it! Our guide was informative, pleasant and quite funny. From the history of the region to the insider stories, it was a really great way to learn about these areas surrounding Glasgow and the beginning of the highlands. We really enjoyed the guided tours at both Stirling Castle and the distillery as well. I would highly recommend doing the tour at Stirling castle as it was a wonderful way to learn about the castle's significance to the region, and to Scotland at large.

Highly recommend this trip! Small group, well paced day, and our guide was informative and uproariously funny! Beautiful scenery, a good mix of activity with some fairly strenuous walking and climbing on trails. Enjoyed visiting with Fiona the highland coo near Sterling Castle. Cannot wait to go back. 5 stars from this family!

Our tour guide Alex was excellent, entertaining and full of knowledge. Stirling Castle was great and you could easily spend a day there. For me personally I would of rather paid for the tickets for the castle and the whisky tour in the price of the tour so I did not have to queue. However, at this time of year it was not a problem. For me I would of rather spent more time at the castle and had lunch where we stopped for coffee later in the afternoon. It was a very cold and wet day in the middle of winter but that did not effect the enjoyment of the trip at all. We had 14 of the tour from around the world and this just added to the enjoyment of the day. The bus left and arrived back exactly on time. I would recommend this tour as great value for money.

Our tour to Stirling Castle, Loch Lomond, and the Glengoyne Distillery could not have been better! Our tour guide, Alex, was excellent. He told us information and stories all along the way. He even sang fun Scottish songs on our way back. I highly recommend this tour.
