Las Alpujarras Day Trip from Granada

Granada, Spain

Visit the unspoiled natural beauty of Las Alpujarras. An area of stunning natural beauty with a delightful climate, Las Alpujarras is dominated by the magnificent rugged peaks of Spain's highest mountain range, the Sierra Nevada. Enjoy lunch at Bubion to Capileira perched above the marvelous Ravine of Poqueira.

Pass through Lanjaron, a famous medicinal spa town where you will visit the Water Museum; Orgiva, center of the Alpujarra region and a series of picturesque villages and hamlets such as Caratunas, Pampaneira, Pitres, Portugos with its natural spring and Trevelez, the highest village in Spain. You will then continue through Bubion to Capileira perched above the marvelous Ravine of Poqueira where a typical Alpujarreno lunch will be served.

This regions natural beauty is due to the warm climate and abundant supply of water running off the rivers of the Sierra Nevada - making it one of the most fertile valleys in Spain. The small white hillside villages are filled with houses with flat earthen roofs (terrados) and the terraced farmland reaches over 6,561 feet (2,000 meters).

We had a wonderful time on this full day trip, Michael was a fantastic tour guide, he was so friendly, informative, knowledgeable and helpful and everything was so well organised. The villages were wonderful and the lunch and tapas tasting were delicious, it certainly was a day to remember

In my opinion the trip was great including the punctuality of the arranged pick up time and well organised. The mini bus was comfortable and the driver was clearly an expert. Not only did he know every curve but also every bump in the road and he adjusted the speed accordingly. Best of all, the guide was very knowledgeable and gave all the information in Spanish and English. I was also very lucky with my travel companions, although this is not something one can choose. The Spanish speaking travellers were making a real effort to speak slowly and clearly to me over lunch in Spanish. So, bearing in mind that a tasting session of the regional 'jamon' and later a very plentiful, nice lunch with wine and water was included in the price, it was good value for money.

Hi. A well worthwhile trip-such a stunning area to visit-even though it was raining. Lunch was great-so much food and wine!!. The guide Angela was so helpful and knowledgeable-and the driver was so professional-not easy on some of the winding roads._br/_ The only downside was the difficulty in booking. We booked on the internet and we got a response telling us to ring a number to find out about the time and location of the pick up-only it wasn't a valid number. Luckily the hotel receptionist did some ringing around and managed to find out for us. The mini bus was far too small and cramped-we were last on the bus and our seat was so uncomfortable-it was like a school bus-with child sized seats-by the time we got back we were in physical pain as we couldn't move our legs in the seat behind the driver-and we aren't very tall.. I would still go again-a stunning area of Andalucia.

We took the day trip through the Sierra Nevada mountains and loved it. It is a full day with us being collected from our hotel at 8.30 am and returning at about 6.30 pm but certainly well worth it. The bus winds its way up through a number of villages to Trevelez which is the highest village in mainland Spain. Each stop provided an interesting topic and the lunch was excellent. Our guide, Angela, was great and as well as being multi-lingual had a good personality. Our driver, Antonio, did a great job handling the mini-bus through the winding roads made more difficult by the bike race that was on that day.

weather cooperated after awhile. Itinerary was great , all stops were very very interesting and the lunch was awesome ! Bus was comfortable and we really bonded with all the travelers. Guide was fine - English could have been a bit more clear but it didn't mar the trip in the least.

We really enjoyed this tour - our guide was very knowledgeable and obviously loves talking about Las Alpujarras. Beautiful vistas and scenes around every curve. I would have been white-knuckled but our expert driver allowed us to enjoy the scenery. Learned a lot about the history and topography of the area. A really good lunch at a rural hotel. Many brief stops for viewing spots or to see some mineral springs, deep ravines, and old ruins. Visited 3 of the 29 hill towns but drove through several others- how they ever built in some of those locations defies gravity. Margaret and Roger

I enjoyed the day. Very windy roads I am surprised I was not car sick. Very informative tour guide and interesting to see the Alpujarras which I have read a lot about. The places we stopped felt quite touristy and less authentic than I would have liked.

This tour was amazing. The excellent tour guide Alba, who was so informative as to the history and culture of the area, made this trip one to remember. You visit three villages in the foot hills of the Sierra Nevada. Panoramic views are plentiful. If you suffer from vertigo this trip will cure you.

We had a fantastic day exploring the stunning mountain villages that surround Granada! Our guide, Antonio, masterfully switched between English and Spanish the entire day to make sure all tour participants understood every component of the tour. One of the smoothest bilingual tours I've ever been on! It is a great balance of guided exploration and free time throughout the day. I would recommend this tour to anyone looking to explore the Alpujarras for the day--it is worth the trip!

Excellent day with Antonio our guide who was very helpful, always smiling and full of information. I would have liked a couple of stops to photo the amazing vistas. Nonetheless a good day touring to a remote and spectacular area.

We loved this tour! It was a great break from the hustle and bustle of town. Antonio, our guide, was fun, well informed and spoke excellent English. We made plenty of interesting stops for photo ops beautiful scenery and hill towns and sightseeing along the way. The high point was a lovely lunch which gave us an opportunity to talk with other guests about their native countries and travels in Spain.

The guide was excellent and the quality of the places visited outstanding. Loved the ham factory and the lunch. My husband brought along a small scooter and Michael was super in accommodating his needs. We have some fantastic pictures and enjoyed the others on the tour. Just five of us in a new van was very relaxing.

An excellent day trip from Granada if you don't have a car._br/_ The pick up worked well in the morning and we had a good group of people of many languages. We were the only primary English speakers even though the tour was listed as English. The tour guide made sure to include us in everything, and it went well. We enjoyed the ham-factory tour as this was something we had never seen before. The lunch was huge and more food than we could eat, although it was a bit late (almost 2:30pm) for us. The views are great from these small towns, and it was an enjoyable day.

This was an excellent day trip. The tour guide was great with plenty of information. We saw so many of the towns and the lunch was fun. The driver was also great as the roads are very high up. More time in the towns would have been nice but overall a wonderful trip.

The region and it's histor were well presented. Tour could be much improved by a better choice of locations as the scenery here is pretty spectacular. It was unfortunate that all the best sights were only able to be glimpsed from the coach. In hindsight, a better option would have been to hire a car and have the freedom to focus on the region's true highlights.

I called to check in and was told it was cancelled. So, I'm waiting for the refund. A better business practice would be for the company to notify me that the trip was cancelled and that my payment has been refunded.

The coach was small but comfortable, the driver and the guide were both very good and attentive, and the lunch was generous. But overall I thought the trip was expensive for what it offered. Visits to villages were OK, but a walk in the Albaycin district of Granada offers no less stunning scenery. Our main disappointment was that the lunch - supposedly the highlight of the trip - was held in a dull room with no view, although there were plenty of restaurants with lovely views in the same village.

Professionally well done. If you do not have a car, this is more or less the only option to see some of the region, and the guide did a good job.

The day we took this trip was extremely cloudy, foggy and rainy. I suggest checking out the weather and if you don't expect sun, don't go. We were taken to several beautiful towns, but because it was very cold and wet, we didn't enjoy the scenery or the view.

A very touristy but extremely scenic drive high up into a fascinating area. Lovely guide, huge lunch of local food - overall excellent value. Though the trip was initially cancelled due to lack of numbers, efficient voice mail alerted us to changes, and the pick-up arrangements worked perfectly.

It was a super trip and I would thoroughly recommend others doing it. The food was beautifully presented when we had our lunch. The guide was knowledgeable, the driver of the bus very careful and the bus itself first class. As the scenery was so stunning it would have been great to have been able to stop and take some photos of the wonderful valleys and ravines. On the way to our lunch the toilet and coffee stop proved to be at a place that was closed - phoning ahead to check that it was open would have been a good idea. My group and I would liked to have had more information about how the hams are preserved rather than just having the food samples, nice as they were, and then being left to wander. As teachers information is what we like. The only part of the tour which we didn't rate was the waterfall of iron - that was a bit of a let down.
