Skip the Line: Alhambra Tour and Granada Hammam

Granada, Spain

Combine a visit to the Alhambra, Granada’s top historical site, with an afternoon of blissful indulgence at the city’s Arab baths -- Hammam Al Andalus. Start with a skip-the-line morning tour around the UNESCO World Heritage-listed Alhambra, seeing its highlights like Alcazaba Fortress and Generalife Gardens, and then relax at leisure in the spa pools at the baths. You can even upgrade to include a massage!

Leave your Granada hotel by air-conditioned coach and head to the city’s most famous monument – the Alhambra – for your 2.5-hour tour. The distinctive rose-hued palace complex dominates Granada, overlooking the sprawling city from its vantage point high up on La Sabica hill. Constructed in the 13th century during the Nasrid dynasty’s reign, the site began its life as a fortress, with further palatial buildings, courtyards and lavish gardens added by successive rulers.

Now a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the Alhambra is a fascinating place to explore with endless architectural wonders waiting to be found ‘round every corner. After skipping the long entrance lines, take a walking tour with your guide, admiring the Moorish architecture of Alcazaba Fortress and the three Nasrid Palaces – Mexuar, Serello and Harem. Head inside and marvel at the intricate Islamic artwork before visiting the Palace of Charles V, designed by the legendary Spanish architect Pedro Machua.

Visit Alhambra’s Generalife Gardens and envisage the Moorish kings of bygone times relaxing amid elaborate fountains and colorful flowerbeds. Roughly translated as ‘gardens of paradise,’ the beautiful space is perfect for a leisurely stroll, and you’ll do just that with your guide.

After your morning tour of Alhambra, your guide will drop you off in central Granada or at your hotel, so you can enjoy a few hours at leisure for lunch (own expense). At the pre-arranged time, make your own way to Granada’s Arab Baths -- Hammam Al Andalus -- for a blissful soak. Spend your afternoon relaxing in the bath’s seven different pools, all beautifully decorated with glistening tiles. Water temperature varies in each, so you can wallow in the warm pools and then wake yourself up with an icy dip. For an afternoon of ultimate indulgence, upgrade to include a traditional Arabian massage with natural aromatherapy oils.

This was the best tour I've ever been on. Our guide, Sergio was exceptional. His knowledge of the Alhambra was incredible. He was able to field all questions and kept up enthralled. There is allot of walking and the ground is uneven. I'm 69 but had no trouble, I do have a trainer and was averaging 20,000 steps a day on fit bit. There are plenty of places to get out of the sun and water for purchase at the gift shop but I took my own bottle._br/_ After the Alhambra we did the Granada Hammam. Couldn't believe what a fabulous experience that was. Decor much like the Alhambra with replicated tiles. There are several pools of varying degrees, a hot sauna and then a 15 minute massage, where Javiar rubbed me with pomegranate oil. Wish the massage was longer but for 19 what can your expect. I'd recommend to everyone visiting the Alhambra. The ice pool was very healing to our feet. They also had lovely warm tea as you relaxed.

Collected from our beautiful hotel and taken to this amazing Alhambra, high in the Sierra Navada mountains. Beautiful, spacious gardens, magnificent views and a passionate knowledgable guide transporting us through history. _br/_ The Grand Hannam was fantastic; historical, destressing and a must see.

Our tour gave the Ahambra the justice it deserves as a cultural, historical jewel! She was able to impart her encyclopedic knowledge to transport us to a time when this palace was full of life and guided us through it's transformation overtime, thank you!

All in all, a fantastic tour with a funny, knowledgeable guide named Gustavo. The weather was very hot, but he managed to lead us around in the shade as much as possible.

Alhambra is an amazing site. Anyone that visits Granada should have the Alhambra on their list to see. On a negative note, our tour guide seemed annoyed to be there and even more annoyed when anyone asked any questions. Also, we missed the second half of our tour the baths because no directions were given to meet and/or be transported to the baths.

In the end, I think I would have just preferred the Alhambra tour. The guide was excellent, and I enjoyed listening to the tour in both English and Spanish. The Alhambra and Generalife Gardens are, of course, incredible. Walking with a guide maximized the most of every moment with a chance to hear the history while walking from one part of the site to another. The break between the Alhambra bit and the Hammam, for me, was quite long--I had plenty of time to explore more after the guided tour ended. The Hammam, though, was not a win for me. I thought it would be different from what it was. I didn't have the right clothes to make it work, and, in the end, I just ghosted without actually taking my turn in the Hammam. But, if you do like Hammam and it would be especially nice in colder weather!, the combination of both parts fills the day nicely, but still leaves plenty of time in between to do other things as well.

This tour was mis represented to us. We were told it was an 8 hour tour at 135 sounded expensive but for 8 hours we thought it was okay. We asked the operator about lunch and she said it was not included but the tour guide would probably take us somewhere to have lunch. It was just under a 3 hour tour of the Alhambra until 1 pm the we were supposed to wait until 6 pm for our Arab bath experience. This would have been a 2.5 hour drive back to Ronda at 7.39 pm in the dark having left at 6 am to get to Granada. We were expecting a lot more than being left to our own devices in Granada for 5 hours. We did manage to negotiate with the bath house to change it to a 4 pm booking so at least we were heading back at 6.30. The operator was ill informed about what was involved in the tour and she probably did not lie but somehow interpreted the tour as 8 hours. We felt mis led and I am now very hesitant to use viator again as you obviously outsource everything and are not well informed on what you are selling.

Fantastic to be there before the crowds, it gives the place a different feel and enables you to experience the tranquility and holiness of the place. Enjoyed seeing the inside of the church. Our guide was knowledgeable, friendly and cheerful. An unexpected bonus for us was all the information proved on the sights of Barcellona as we left.

The staff were very helpful and obliging. Our guide Fernando was excellent, both in his presentation of the information and his personal observations. Given the number of people walking through Alhambra, Fernando made sure we all had an opportunity to see the best on offer. A visit to hammam a must!

We had a delayed flight and had to miss our scheduled time for the tour. They were accommodating and able to get us into a later tour. We enjoyed the visit to the Alhambra, but our guide was a little monotone. We didn't get any instructions for how to arrive at the Granada Hammam, but once we called, they cleared that up. The Hammam was wonderful, especially after a hot day touring the Alhambra... wish we had booked massages. Next time we'll do that.

Alhambra Tour was rushed and not well organized. From pick up point we had to walk a long way to the office to take the bus to Alhambra. There we waited for 15 min to get headphones and be assigned to a guide. Our group entrance hour was at 11 so we had an hour to kill and we had been taken to another museum. Too much walking back and forth for older people uphill.

Absolute disgrace. Late panicking pick up, taken to the visitors centre as cattle and told to wait for an English speaking guide. Good local guide took us around. No pick up ready when we finished our tour and was told we had to wait at least a half an hour or more for others to finish their tour. As for the hamman, a joke. No help from any of your suppliers and they did not have any details of what we had paid for and when was my appointment. Only a 15 minute massage and busy haman/arab baths. will write to others not to bother going through you, as you are too expensive, no service what soever locally. It is a disgrace what you offer. Ashi

This tour is organised locally by Granavision. For reasons that were not clear our all day tour was rescheduled to the following day in the afternoon for the Alhambra visit. That was fine however they seem to have forgotten the Hammam baths part. This required some sorting our with the help of the hotel. However we did get our tours and even if done separately they are definitely worth doing. Remember your bathing costume for the baths! Our guide for the Alhambra tour was excellent and spoke very good English and also French. Recommended.

Our tour guide was very nice and knowledgeable however, the tour is too fast and doesn't provide ample opportunity to really get to understand the Alhambra. It was also very difficult to manage this tour with pre-teen kids as you have to listen to the guide through headphones - which only the adults got. The bath was wonderful and a great experience. I would skip the tour and see the Alhambra on your own or with a smaller group guide if you have kids in tow.

Everyone was so welcoming and helpful. Victor's tour was both educational and fun. His passion for the Alhambra comes through so strongly and his delivery of the tour sounds a fresh as the first time, even though he must have done it so many times. He answered all our questions with a wealth of information and knowledge. We look forward to coming back again. The Arab bathes were also a wonderful experience and again, all the staff were so warm and friendly. I would definitely use Viator again and recommend you to others. Thank you for helping to make our trip such a great one.

I recommend doing a guided tour, rather than using the audio guide. It is much better having a guide to tell you about the history of granada and so you can ask questions. I really recommend the tour. Antonio was our tour guide and he was very, very good.

Well it started off great the driver was on time and very friendly, he picked us up from our hotel which was great since it was not located down in the Plaza area! The tour of Alhambra could have been better, the radios did not work well and the head phones were the kind you put in your ears! My ears are small so they didn't fit so I had to hold them in my ears for 2 hours what a pain! Other tours had nicer head phone that went around your ear which are so much better! Our tour guide was sick and we had 3 languages in our group so he had to go from English/Spanish then talk in French! I really feel like we didn't get very good information and I really think other tour had better guides! I would have even rather had a rented hand held radio instead but this tour was the only tickets available because they really limit the amount of visitors each day and you can't just show up and buy tickets because you might not get in and we only had 2 days there!

The Alhambra tour was excellent, but I was disappointed that I had to buy a ticket to the Hamman, just to be able to get a ticket to the Alhambra. As it was we were unable to use the Hamman that day and the company wouldn't let use have a voucher to use for another day.

Wonderful tour. Amazing tour guide and friendly and assistive staff. Highly recommend. The alhambra is out of this world and this is the group to discover it with. As for the Granada Hammam (Arab Baths) they were an experience to die for. Otherworldly and relaxing.

The Alhambra tour is definitely worth doing and our guide Marco was fantastic, however, we did find it a bit disorganised. We also booked for the Granada Hammam tour and the massage but in our booking they hadn't let the Hammam know that we had booked the massage so they were insisting it wasn't part of our package. After wasting a lot of time they called the tour company and finally realised the error. At that stage it had pretty much ruined the serenity of the experience. The hammam was nice but I must admit I was expecting a bit more after reading all the reviews. That may have also been because a few days prior we had the opportunity of experiencing the Hammam in Seville and it was by far and away superior - it was magic - the building was nicer and set out better, the pools were bigger and deeper and they had a salt pool and a hydrotherapy pool on top of the steam room and warm, cold and hot baths. At the session we went to at 10pm they had an orchestra play while you relaxed in the baths (I don't know if this happens at every session). If you have the choice I wouldn't bother with the Granada Hammam I would opt for the one in Seville.

The tour of the Alhambra was great - tour guide was very knowledgeable and made the tour fun. The weather was cold and rainy, but the scenery was so beautiful I didn't mind. The Hammam was a nice experience, I would skip the massage - it felt nice, but was not long enough to be more than just a tease.

The entire experience was great!! We were picked up at our hotel and taken to the Alhambra, where we were separated into groups based on the language of our tour. Our guide spoke perfect English, knew his stuff and was funny as well. The Alhambra is a very large complex of buildings and going with a guide is a good idea and a timeasver. I think that if I went on my own I either would have missed sites and information, or it would have taken forever reading through a guidebook as I walked. As it was, the tour lasted over three hours....so there is much to see. My travel companion (my fifteen year old son) also loved this tour. No one visiting southern Spain should miss going to the Alhambra......it is an architectural and historical gem that leaves a memorable impression. _br/_ The add on of the hammam was worth the money, even if you only have an hour or so before they ask you to leave. After the three or four miles you walk on the Alhambra tour, your body welcomes the pampering and relaxation of of the hammam. Pools of water, a steam room, soft music, candlelight, the sound of water cascading into the pools all put you in a good mood. Plus, you'll need a shower anyway after touring the Alhambra in ninety degree weather!_br/_ In all I'd recommend the tour to anyone who will be in Granada!

Alberto was a great guide. He was very informative. I felt we had the best tour of any of the other guides that I witnessed. After we left Alberto we were on our wn to find the Hammam. The check in was very disorganized. If you didn't speak Spanish you would not know what to do. Get to the Hamman early as people were lined up out the door when we arrived 20 minutes before our reservation time. Don't assume your Hamman visit is directly after the Alhambra tour. Ask what time they made your reservation. Our reservation was not until 6pm. After understanding what to do we had a great time.

Pick up for the tour was punctual, although once we were at the starting point, we had to wait without much idea of when we were due to start the tour. We had a mixed party of German and British; the majority were German and our guide was much more orientated towards her German guests who she spoke to for longer and with overtly more affection! At times she was very difficult to hear and understand and (in English) rather repetitive. Despite the indication in our itinerary, the guide knew nothing about a voucher or a map for the Arab Bath part of the tour and initially was very unhelpful, shrugging her shoulders and saying it was nothing to do with her. Happily the recepitionist at the Parador was most helpful in confriming the details on the phone with the local agent and all went smoothly in the end.. Concerns about locating the Arab bath were ill-founded. It is very well signposted. The Alhambra was of course splendid: it was a shame that our guide did not recommend taking time to go into the Alcazba, which she did not take us into; by the time we got back there later it was too late to enter. The Arab bath was fun and worth the time and money, but this is not, I believe, an historic building. Overall a trip not to be missed, and just hope for a better guide!

I absolutely loved the Alhambra! It is well worth going on a guided visit as there is so much to see that we would have defintely got lost and missed part of it. Also a big plus was that we didn´t have to queue for the tickets, and some people inside the Alhambra told us they had been queueing for over a couple of hours. We also heard that in high season you may not even be able to get a ticket even after queueing, so we were very glad we booked online beforehand! As for the hamam, we really enjoyed the experience. It was great relaxing in the hamam after the morning in the Alhambra, which we loved but we were pretty tired after it. The atmosphere at the hamam was really nice and inspiring, and it was really clean. Also the massage was very plessant. I had been to a really nice hamam in Istanbul two months ago, which was very famous, but I preferred this one much better! Definitely recommend it!

The transportation to and from the hotel was extremely convenient. The tour was informative, fun, and in multiple languages. The Arab Bath was amazing! The only down side was the group we were attached to. It was mostly giggling, obnoxious, young girls that dampened the experience for the rest of the people in the baths.

I rarely do any reviews, but this tour was just amazing, very organized, very professional. If you go to Granada, the Arab Bath option is a must! It was absolutely fantastic! Too bad I couldn't take pictures inside, but well worth the $$. The guys who give the massages are gorgeous! Had a great relaxing time. The "Alhambra" was also ahhhhhmazing. Unbelievable architecture.

the alhambra visit was good though a big group of 30 people i prefer smaller groups if possible. the guide was good and had excellent english not so impressed with the baths, people extremely noisy despite signs, not clear where and how to go about the process and massage was minimal and just okay. leave the baths to turkey in my opinion.

Although worthwhile, we lost the value of the guided visit due to constant translation from the guide since 2 langages were mixed in the same group although more than 12 people per langage. Bath experience is interesting but the presence of kids and the non respect of the silence affected the experience.
