Tropical Coast and Caves of Nerja Day Trip from Granada

Granada, Spain

Combine the fascinating history of Nerja and the beautiful scenery of the Tropical Coast on this day trip from Granada. Nerja boasts 10 miles (16 kilometers) of beaches with powdery sand and sparkling clear water. Its most spectacular attraction is undoubtedly the fascinating Caves of Nerja, where you will find archaeological treasures over 20,000 years old.

The Costa Tropical coast has the perfect climate for growing beautiful tropical fruits including custard apples, papaya, avocado and mangoes. Nearby Motril is a popular area for scuba divers.

Heading towards Malaga, you will come across Salobrena, a village of white houses perched on a hill and crowned by an impressive Islamic Castle from where the panoramic views of the surrounding fertile plain and beaches can be admired.

Stop for lunch in the old quarter of Almunecar and admire the Majuelo Park and the castle of San Miguel before heading to Nerja for the afternoon.

The Caves of Nerja boast extensive grottoes and archaeological remains including a 32 meter central column - the largest in the world. The caves are a popular venue for concerts and classical music performances.

I had a phenomenal time on this tour! Marta and William are an excellent team. _br/_ Marta is very knowledgeable and happy to answer any questions. She is able to give the tour in English and Spanish without difficulty._br/_ William is a great driver I felt safe and comfortable with him at the wheel._br/_ The locations are beautiful and the lunch is very tasty.

Long bus ride but beautiful scenery by the coast and of course the caves are incredible. Don't know if the dual Spanish/English commentary is necessary as everyone in the bus spoke English. Well worth the price and the time.

Really nice tour, showing the beautiful coastline.Lovely air conditioned mini van Mercedes. Stopped off at Almunecar had a look at the local sites, and coffee by the sea front. Then off to the caves, which was a awesome sight. The only issue here is the tour guide inside the caves did rush a little bit, as many groups where inside. This was a guide from the Caves and not our tour leader. We had a really good lunch at Nerja beach with plenty of sea food . Lovely funny driver William who came back a different route as I had car sickness on the way down due to winding roads .

This was a really nice tour. Pick up was smooth as we were at an rental not hotel. It was totally in line with what was advertised. I would have skipped the garden tour that was before the 'fort'. The other somewhat pesty aspect was that we had English speakers and Spanish speakers on the trip so the poor guide had to give information in both languages which was just long. The caves were great. Were we stopped over looking the ocean there was a really pretty church. I was wary of the lunch but it was great and even in April, my kids went swimming in the Mediterranean! No great place to change, but we figured it out and just used a restroom. Thanks well done tour.

My family of four had a wonderful time on this trip. The drive was very scenic and the coast was beautiful. There was some uphill walking, which my family appreciated after the drive. Our guide, Antonio, was wonderful. He was incredibly knowledgeable and spoke English fluently. He obviously has a great love for this area and passed that on to us. I highly recommend this tour.

I felt I got a lot for my money. The tour guide was educated and friendly. fyi this tour requires a lot of stair climbing

As we hadn't planned staying any further south than Granada this trip was a good opportunity to see a bit more of Spain. There were many olive trees and orchards on the journey down. We stopped at the whitewashed town of Salobrena, walked up to the castle and were treated to an amazing view. We then went to the caves, I have visited many caves and these were some of the best I have seen due to their size, there were a number of huge caverns. _br/_ After stopping in the picturesque town on Nerja we then stopped to eat lunch at a restaurant on the beach. Lunch was included in the price and we could order beer, wine, sangria, a main meal and sides. It was a great meal. There were only 5 of us on the tour, 2 of us spoke no Spanish and 3 were elderly people who spoke no English. We all ate together and had a very good time notwithstanding the language barrier. We then visited another beautiful beach where we could walk off some of the lunch. This was a relaxing tour, we were never rushed and the time in each location was just enough.

A must do if you are in the area for more than 3 days -- a relaxing break from the glory of Alhambra but beautiful in its one right.

The Nerja caves were amazing and we had several interesting stops along the way which were great to see. Antonio was a good guide - translating everything between English and Spanish. I was not impressed with the planning/organization of the trip. We were picked up at 8:30 am and lunch was planned at 2 pm and we weren't served until after 3 pm. That was way too long to wait for lunch. Also - we have a few vegetarians and the options for vegetarians were not appropriate - a lettuce salad or fish.

Fantastic tour! Our guide was great and the driver was also helpful to fill in English as needed. We got more history from this tour than I expected and I thoroughly enjoyed free time on the beach. Would recommend.

A wonderful day out with the Nerja caves being quite fascinating. Our guide, Michael, (a Dutch young man with impeccable English) was delightful and patently obviously loved the Tropical coast which was infectious. The lunch on the beach of a superb freshly made Paella was a gastronomic treat!

Nice guide. Very touristy spots on the coast. Wish we had more time to explore on our own.

The tour guide was excellent, he had a lot of initiative and a beautiful bubbly personality. I love the stop at the restaurant overlooking the ocean for lunch and the PAELLA was super EXCELLENT! I enjoyed this TROPICAL COAST and CAVES OF NERJA DAY TRIP TOUR VERY MUCH, the MOST...next to the ALHAMBRA Tour.

Extremely interesting history pertaining to the Caves discovery. Some beautiful old formation. _br/_ The Tropical Coast with the white Andalusian houses on steep mountains is a sight to behold. Our guide was just brilliant! He was knowledgeable and made sure we saw, walked, tasted and experienced the Andalusian coast albeit for a day! _br/_ It was a thoroughly fabulous trip!

The coast is absolutely breathtaking. Our 10-year old daughter loved the beach and the caves. We wish we had more beach time though.

The caves were amazing, the coast was beautiful, and the guide was incredibly nice - felt like going on a trip with a family friend, instead of a traditional tour. We were able to spend as much time as we wanted in the caves, and still had plenty of free time to explore the small beach towns.

Even through there was a bit of a communication problem on their end and thus they picked us up late after letting us wait for 1 hr the trip itself was awesome. The caves were impressive, the views were great, the seashore time was wonderful and the paella lunch was out of this world! I mean it was good! I mean I dream about that paella. Yum! Anyway the tour took us to 3 different villages and we had time on the beach in 2 of them and my only regret is that there was not more time. So this tour just needs 1 more hr added to the length of it so allow for more swim time.

You get more with this trip than the description indicates. You see all that is described and more. The cave and tropical coast portion is actually in the morning, followed by a nice included paella lunch by the sea. On the way back to Granada, you get a bonus in the form of a stop at a 4th-century processing plant for salt fish. The plant is set in a marvelous park containing about 30 truly stunning sandstone sculptures by the same artist, all set among unusual tropical trees from all over the world.
