45-minute Helicopter Flight Over the Grand Canyon from Tusayan, Arizona

45-minute Helicopter Flight Over the Grand Canyon from Tusayan, Arizona

Grand Canyon National Park, United States of America

Your tour beings at the Grand Canyon airport in Tusayan, Arizona. Fly over the ponderosa pines of Kaibab National Forest on a 45-minute helicopter excursion from the Grand Canyon South Rim. Upstream on the Colorado River are views of the Painted Desert and Desert View Watchtower. View Marble Canyon and Point Imperial as you fly through the Canyon and climb above the North Rim to head south through the Dragon Corridor, the Canyon’s widest and deepest section.

You will depart Tusayan, Arizona located in the South Rim of the Grand Canyon on the safest and most comfortable-tourism based helicopter in the world. On your 45-minute helicopter flight, enjoy the luxurious comfort and wraparound windows which offer breathtaking views of the Canyon.

Enjoy the fantastic views of the Canyon as you fly over the 1.6 million-acre (6,500 km²) Kaibab National Forest, which borders both the north and south rims of the Grand Canyon. The Kaibab National Forest is home to the world’s largest ponderosa pines.

Upon reaching the edge of the canyon, the South Rim gently drops away as the North Rim and east end of the canyon come into view – this is definitely one of the greatest views of the Grand Canyon.

You will continue your journey as you follow the Colorado River upstream viewing at a distance the 146-square mile Painted Desert and the 70-foot (21-meter) Desert View Watchtower, a National Historic Landmark. The Desert View Watchtower features an observation deck from which visitors to the national park can view eastern portions of the Grand Canyon.

Next, view Marble Canyon, the section of the Colorado River which marks the beginning of the Grand Canyon, and Point Imperial, the highest point on the North Rim at 8,803 feet (2,683 meters). Point Imperial overlooks the Painted Desert and the eastern end of Grand Canyon. You will fly through the Canyon above the North Rim heading south through the Dragon Corridor, the widest and deepest section of the Canyon.

At the end of your helicopter flight, you will cross over the Colorado River and fly over the South Rim and the Kaibab National Forest to land.

Please note: Per FAA regulations, all passengers 18 years and older will be required to show photo ID such as a driver's license or passport at the time of check-in.

Absolutely outstanding way to see the majesty and incredible size of the Grand Canyon. Highly recommended. Eric was our pilot, shared great information about the geology, development, and size of the canyon. The weather was perfect and the flight, a bit bumpy at first, smoothed out over the canyon. My daughter was in the front row and me in the back. Views mostly unobstructed, even from the back. I can't imagine a better was to see the GC for the first time.

On my husbands bucket list. Very well organised, he really enjoyed. If you don't go and are waiting nice comfy lounge area and a little coffee shop inside.

The flight was great. It is a nice way to see parts of the Grand Canyon you could not see unless you hiked into the Canyon.

Our pilot spent an extra 15 minutes in the canyon with us making it over an hour. He was fabulous and made sure we saw, photographed and video taped all the good stuff! I would highly recommend them!

Unfortunately on the day of our scheduled flight it was very windy. We were advised that we would be unable to take the 45 minute flight due to safety reasons. Either we could come back tomorrow, which wasn't an option for us as we were leaving Arizona then, or we may be able to take the 25 minute flight if the returning pilot okays this. Fortunately we were able to take the 25 minute flight._br/_ The views from the helicopter were spectacular to say the least. The pilot was very imformative with his commentary throughout the flight._br/_ If you are considering whether or not to do this flight, as I was, I would highly recommend you do as you will not be disappointed._br/_ Were advised by the staff there to inform Viator of the alteration to our booking and apply for a refund of the difference between the 45 and 25 minute flights, which we did. This process took a while to complete but was worth it as Viator refunded us the difference for which we were grateful for.

What a memory to treasure for a lifetime! The entrance into the canyon was breath-taking. Our pilot was excellent. We felt safe and he provided wonderful information for us.

Other than the 120 fuel surcharge we were hit with at the counter it was an amazing experience and still totally worth it.

Spencer, our pilot was terrific, very knowledgeable and provided a great narrative as we flew over the canyon. Would love to do this again!

Review by:   Anthony B,    December 2017 Review: 2 star rating: It was OK, but could have been better
I had been looking forward very much to this helicopter flight over the Grand Canyon. However, it was most unfortunate that I was allocated a central seat in the rear of the helicopter. The person to my left and to my right took lots of photos , as did the people in the front seats. This meant that my vision was substantially impaired and I did not experience the thrill that I was looking forward to nor the thrill that the other passengers felt._br/_ The pilot was very friendly and at one point hovered to allow the views and photos. However the points of interest were to the right and my wife sitting to my left and I in the central rear expected the pilot to turn round to allow the good view to be sharted by all passengers. This did not happen. In the end, a disappointing experience. My advice is to try and ensure front seats on the helicopter.

The 8-seater choppers provide excellent views with big windows all around. The pilot flew as quickly over the tree tops to get to the Canyon as possible to ensure we maximized our viewing time. He provided good commentary. The views are spectacular. I was originally thinking of going by plane but really glad I took the chopper. Fully recommend it

Trip starts in a nicely appointed waiting room with comfortable couches. Helicopters are recent models of high quality. Pilot was thorough and shared insights about Grand Canyon._br/_ Trip was so beautiful didn't bother to drive into park.

What an experience to have and the best way to see so much of the canyon that you dont see from standing at the rim. Maverick h3licopters were a very professional company and our pilot Fred was brilliant. Informative but not over the top and gave you time to take the wonders all in but witty and made the experience all the more enjoyable. Could not rate it high enough

If you are in the front you get a panoramic view of the canyon but in the back you get a panoramic view of the front passengers. Its very unfair that Maverick charge the same price whether you are in the front or the back of this helicopter. Very frustrating when three of the passengers are whooping with joy as they board..... As several reviewers have pointed out, if you are an average male you should expect to be in the rear seat and if you are in the middle dont expect to capture any decent photos. Sorry Maverick, but this is grossly unfair.

Professional from start to finish. You haven't seen the Grand Canyon until you've seen it from the helicopter. Find some way in your budget to add this to your trip. It's FANTASTIC and well worth it.

We signed up for the 45 minute helicopter flight. Unfortunately, the winds were dangerous that day and they could not take us into certain parts of the canyon where the winds were the worst. We did get a 30 minute helicopter ride into the canyon though and it was well worth it. The views were spectacular and I think you get a better perspective of the depth and width of the canyon. Our pilot was very good at pointing out all of the areas and giving us canyon history and information on the layers. Did not regret one bit of it!

WONDERFUL! Check-in/registration is fast, instructions are well communicated, staff is friendly. Once we are off the ground, I don't want to close my eyes for any second because the view from above is so stunning. Grand Canyon is gorgeous. The pilot narrates the trip well, directing us to highlight spots as we move from 1 area to another. Absolutely the most memorable moments of our first trip to Grand Canyon. Wish we can revisit GC soon.

Review by:   Glenn C,    October 2017 Review: 3 star rating: Worth doing
The helicopter tour flies a counter-clockwise route around the east end of the Grand Canyon. The pilot offers descriptions of the geological history and points of interest, most of which appear on the right side of the aircraft. If you get stuck in the rear seat behind the pilot, well there's always postcards and the 40 CD of the video taken from the front of the helicopter.

Breathtaking views of the Grand Canyon! Our pilot Patrick was very friendly and narrated our flight with lots of great information. We were very comfortable in the air-conditioning and there was enough leg room for all of us - even our 6'4 passenger! Our 11-year-old son, who usually keeps to himself, said as we flew over the ridge to behold the huge canyon This is so cool! Several of the adults admitted to almost crying it was so overwhelming. In a good way.

Viewing the Grand Canyon is awesome. Seeing it from a helicopter adds a whole different dimension. Maverick Helicopters use great helicopters allowing great views whichever seat you are in. B.J. our pilot was very knowledgeable and was able to answer all questions asked. He also had a wicked playlist on his sound system for the whole of the flight. Maverick are positioned just off the main road into the park and access from the The Best Western Squire Inn could not have been better. 5 minutes from the hotel. A very memorable experience and what might appear to be an expensive trip 898 for four adults it was fantastic value for money. Highly recommended.

This tour was amazing, unbelievably impressive and moving. It seemed expensive beforehand, but afterward it seemed well worth it. The pilot did a fantastic job, made a very dramatic approach to the canyon, showed us a lot of different angles. He also seemed rather knowledgeable about some of the geology. It was slightly disappointing not to see more wildlife on the way to the canyon an earlier time would be better for that, but we didn't go for the wildlife. The music selection on the headset also added to the enjoyment of the tour._br/_ Viewing the Grand Canyon from a helicopter offers views that you can not see from either rim. It is breathtaking._br/_ The only real disappointment was the video I purchased after the flight. It was not clearly focused. I was really hoping for a video that would recreate the experience as much as possible, but the poor focus prevents that. The music was also not audible, even though the voices on the headset were audible on the video._br/_ Bottom line: Definitely take the helicopter tour, but don't bother with the video.

The most amazing thing I have ever done. Flying over the Grand Canyon was a bucket list trip and was well worth it. Alex was a great pilot with tremendous knowledge of the area. This is a must do trip!

It was a great experience. Really worth the money. From above we were able to see how amazing and huge the canyon was. Awesome! Only one thing that's to bad. If we wanted to buy the picture it would cost $20,-. That's to bad since the flight is already expsnsit. Just include it please.

No, tour was not amazing! Husband and myself stuck in back seats and couldn't see a thing!! Not happy and would NEVER recommend to anyone!

Great experience, astounding views. The only thing probably was - flying over the forest to reach the canyon felt a bit tooo slow. _br/_ We were lucky to have just 4 people in the helicopter, but there was room for 2 more, and if this was the case there would have been one very unlucky sitting in the middle on the back. Although we were told that that person would still have great view, i tend to strongly disagree.

We booked a mid-morning flight on June 15th. The weather was perfect: warm, clear sky, and no wind. Our pilot was very personable and extremely good. My wife was initially apprehensive, but from the time he put her in the front seat next to him and told her she was going to be his co-pilot, everything was great. The scenery was fantastic, and although we didn't see any wildlife, we could clearly see rafters and boaters on the Colorado River at the bottom of the canyon. We had walked the south rim the evening before, seeing the canyon in the late afternoon, and then as the sun began to set. The helicopter tour the next morning was a perfect way to broaden our perspectives. This was a must do activity to check off the bucket list since neither of us had ever seen the Grand Canyon. I highly recommend it.

The helicopter ride is the only way to see the Grand Canyon! Maverick's pilot was great! His knowledge and tour was really informative and the helicopter was state of the art. It seems like a lot of money per person, but I would do it again! I would recommend this tour and give it two thumbs up! You won't be disappointed!

We took the 45 minute flight over the Grand Canyon. Very happy we chose the 45 minute flight and not the shorter one. Well worth every extra cent. The pilot/guide was outstanding! Very knowledgeable of the area and very accommodating of my special needs. I am just an itsy, bitsy frail little gal and our pilot made sure I had all the extra help I needed climbing aboard. Having never been on a helicopter before, I was not sure what to expect. When you are flying over the tree tops and first come over the ridge and above the Grand Canyon, wow, wow, wow!!! What a breath taking experience. My traveling partner is very claustrophobic and thought he was going to have challenges. After we were strapped in and ready to go, he asked the pilot to stop so he could take off his coat and get comfortable to avoid any challenging episodes. This was taken care of without a second thought and he was then comfortable and enjoyed the entire trip. We will be back for another trip and special thanks to our pilot for creating such a memory...

My wife, her three sisters and their husbands all went on this tour last week4-24-2017 and were extremely happy how everything was handled by VIATOR and Maverick helicopter company. With six older people58 some were nervous and a little scared but were put to ease when talking to the employees at the desk and the pilots who flew the helicopters.I was very pleased to see a whole different part of the Grand Canyon as these tours take you to areas you would not normally see. The pilots talk to you and explain what you are seeing and how it got that way. This is a must do if you ever get to the Grand Canyon, yes I know it is expensive but it gives you a whole new perspective of the landscape. This is something we will never forget
