Big Island Hawaii Volcano Adventure

Hawaii, United States of America

See the lava fields on a comprehensive, full-day Big Island Hawaii Volcano tour. You'll explore Hawaii Volcano National Park, Kilauea Volcano and Big Island of Hawaii's lava flows and craters, and learn about the natural history of this amazing part of the world along the way.

The recent eruptions of Kilauea Volcano in Hawaii Volcano National Park have captured the world's imagination. Kilauea tours feature the closest approach to recent lava flows allowed by Civil Defense and local authorities.

You'll explore Hawaii Volcano National Park, Thurston Lava Tube and Kilauea Volcano, and visit the Jaggar Museum. If conditions are deemed safe by the National Park Service, you'll also have the opportunity to hike out onto the lava flow.

This Big Island Hawaii Volcano tour also takes you through Hilo Town and Banyan Drive, the waterfalls at Rainbow Falls (if time permits), a macadamia nut factory (seasonal), and an orchid and anthurium nursery.

I absolutely loved the tour. I'd strongly recommend it for anyone looking for a fun and informative day tour from Hilo. The tour guide was informative and entertaining and we were lucky enough to be able to view some volcanic actions from Halemaumau after the fog had lifted. I can't wait to return to Big Island and take the tour again.

Wonderful tour, I highly recommend it. Captain Rob clearly loves Hawaii and is extremely knowledgable in all aspects of volcanology. Fascinating and informative.

Ce tour est vraiment bien pour ce qui est du qualité-prix. Avec un guide formidable et amicale, nous avons fait le tour du National volcano park , en passant par tout les attraits populaires. Un tour à recommander !!

Captain Bob was fantastic. He was very knowledgeable of all facets of the volcano's. It was a long day but very much worth the time. We were picked up at the scheduled time. I would have given this a 5 star rating if just for Captain Bob, however, the tour does stop at the Volcano Inn for lunch. Several points - food selection was poor though quality was above average but More importantly there are several levels unbeknownst to us of service and food selection. Even though we were seated first we were put in the back row of tables away from upfront and the best view seating, people with Gold passes were seated after us and given the best seating, we were waited on after the Gold passes were served - again, even though we were seated first. The Gold passes had a much larger and appealing meal _br/_ selection. Everybody on the same tour bus should be provided the same level of service. If there are levels to purchase preferential viewing and meals, then it should be made available through all selling venues on this tour. This tour should consider other restaurant options.

It was great, the tour guide was very friendly and it had a great athmosphere, although I expected to see the lava flows from a closer perspective.

Very good tour of Hilo, local highlights macadamia nut factory, orchid producers and the Volcano national park. The guide was very affable and full of local knowledge. Please note that conditions can be wet, cool and windy when in the park. Take a light jacket with you. Quite a long day, starting at 8 am and getting back to our hotel after 7 pm. Overall, very good value and I suspect this tour takes you as close as you can get to a volcano without a helicopter.

The tour guide was excellent and knowledgeable. Plentiful stops and time to enjoy the sights._br/_ Communications wasn't the best to get set up for morning pick up. We were staying locally and there wasn't a designated pick up point even though we communicated that we would need one. When we booked, the site allowed us to book with the option that we were not staying at a hotel and needed other pick up arrangements. No one contacted us until we finally managed to get in touch with someone the night before. Then we had to make a special trip to figure out where we were supposed to be. Once it got going, it was a good tour.

Tour guide was excellent. Seeing lava actually coming out of the dome was a spectacular experience. Actually being on a black sand beach was amazing. Quite a long day so be prepared!

This tour runs out of Hilo and is a great day trip to see the Volcanoes and lava. Our guide - John was very knowledgeable and friendly.

Too much wasted time. We don't need to stop at every restroom. A 20 minute stop to load up on drinks and snacks for the day is ridiculous. People should plan ahead and bring there own. I felt like we spent a lot of the day killing time to make it a full day tour. We only spent 4 of the 11 hours at the Volcano. Didn't see anything I couldn't see by car.

We both had a good time. Our guide was knowledgeable and courteous. We saw some beautiful sights and learned some neat history of the islands. I only wish that we had skipped the stops in town so that more time could have been spent at the volcanoes since that is what the tour is meant to be about. We especially could have done without the stop at the convenience store to get snacks for the day. It would be better that they advise you get those ahead of time and then more time could be spent enjoying the sights. We felt too rushed at some of them. Overall, it was a good day and I'd definitely recommend this trip.

This was a great tour which included much more than just the volcanoes tour. Our tour guide John was quirky, very funny, but most importantly knowledgable about all of the sites within the tour. This is a full day of adventure so his sense of humor came in handy throughout the day. I would definitely book through Viator again.

The tour was eh....We spent too much time going to other places and given time to shop and not enough time for the Volcano. Better off going to the Volcano National Park yourself and doing everything. And our tour guide was nice but had the most boring and monitone voice.....put you to sleep....

Leroy was the best guide with his knowledge and great story telling. We fitted alot in that day and felt safe doing it.Highlight was walking on the lava flow from 1979.You think it's another planet. Walking through the lava tunnel also. Lunch was a in the accommodation lodge with a view of the volcano which is smoking away. Again the weather up the mountain became misty and foggy and their was one view we didn't get to see.Again that's mother nature and no one can change that.

The tour was ok, you don't get to see a live lava flow. You do get to walk out onto some different lava fields, and you see ALOT of craters (my fiancé called it the big hole tour). You do see a black sand beach early on, but if you know your way around the park, not worth the price of this tour.

The tour (Polynesian adventures) was fun and the tour guide Sharon, was really knowledgable and helpful!!! The company was accommodative of our flight schedule. The lunch stop was disappointing, but i guess it was best available! I would still recommend this tour

Nice tour. We saw several things that had been on our list and some that were not. The bus was comfortable, we had plenty of time to look around at our stops. The only negative was that because of the size of the group, we got stuck while the driver tried to find stragglers. I guess that is understandable since this is among the least expensive volcano tours.

Loved the tour guide, Loren. Loved the stories he told and all the sites we saw. For the tour of the volcano itself, I thought we would see the active lava flows. Seeing the past lava flows and ghe steam vents wss intersting but if I ever get anither chance, I will take a night time tour instead. For me it was just a little anticlimatic.

Terrible! It was a tour of Hilo not of Volcano Natl Park. Do not recommend unless you want to see all of Hilo.

Great trip. Excellent guide and not too many people even though it was a big bus. My only issue was for me it went on too long (from 9am til 6pm) but that is personal preference, other might see it as value for money

We had an excellent day and Laura our driver and guide was a fountain of knowledge and gave us a great experience on the day. We learned a lot and had plenty of time to look around the various areas where we stopped. All very well organised and would recommend to others. We had quite a small group so this made it a little better for us all.

Our driver/tour guide Dennis was the best. He kept us on schedule but didn't make it seem that we were on a schedule. He was knowledgeable and witty and kept track of everyone. . he was amazing! I've taken many tours around the world but I rate the Volcano Adventure trip on Hawaii the best!

It was perfect in every sense of the word. Our guide, (Auntie) Sharon Simoes was very, very knowledgable and informative of the area. And humorous as well. It was a great day. Whatever Ms. Simones is paid (excluding tips) it can't possibly be enough. She deserves a raise!!

Pretty good tour, we went to a lot of different places which I was suprised to go too. The driver was awesome too. Thought I would suggest that the driver be more animated to share his culture with the guest. I'm a native Hawaiian and I used to be a tour driver and I would just be excited to do my tours telling of all the great Hawaiian history within the islands. I would have told the people that they are on the Umi side of the island and Umi was a great Native Hawaiian chief still revered by Native Hawaiians. I would tell them that the Kona and Kohala side is refered too as the Keawe side. Keawe was a chief who is still revered by Native Hawaiians until today. I was happy and satisfied with this tour.

We saw a lot for one tour. Was happy to stop at the macademia nut factory, Rainbow Falls, the orchid nursery, in addition to the Volcano Nat'l Park. However, the bus driver rambled about himself way too much. If he had talked about Hawaii more and his personal life (and bad jokes) less, the trip would have been much more enjoyable. And, there is nothing wrong with silence if there is nothing to say.

overall we liked the volcano part of the of the tour. The driver was very regimented about how long to stay at each part. If you were late he laid on the horn. we felt rushed. I would not do this again

Captain Rob was a knowledgable and entertaining guide. I was impressed by his professionalism with us as a group and with the chronic stragglers. The tour itself was very complete and one of the most interesting things we did on the Big Island.

(Positive) You get to see the Hilo side of the island without renting a car._br/_ (Negatives)Too much time was spent on the bus. Maybe too much stops were crammed into the day but on average we were given 15-20 minutes whenever we got off the bus to see anything. Always felt very rushed by the time limit. And then when we actually got back on the bus we would spend another 5-10 minutes waiting for latecomers. The guide spoke so softly it was extremely difficult to understand what he was saying even with the volume cranked up. The guide was also the ddriver and all the explaining was done on the bus while driving, he never accompanied us to the actual sights but always waited on the bus. As most tours, so much depends on the guide and ours wasn't very professional.

This tour wasn't really what I expected. The tour starts in the morning with a stop at Rainbow Falls, which is nice. You get a quick tour of the city of Hilo. Then you make a stop in the Mauna Loa macadamia nut factory. You will not leave here without buying something in the gift shop. They give you free samples and that is enough to make you start looking in the store for these items. The Hershey Kisses with the macadamia nut are excellent! Then, you go to a Orchid green house which I could have skipped. Then lunch. This consumes half your day. Then you finally get to the Volcano National Park. I expected to see lava with everything I read and seeing an active volcano. The only thing you see is steam coming from the crator. At night this steam glows red. Most people flew in for the day, but I stayed on the Big Island. The city of Hilo (pronounced HE-lo) is one of the wettest cities in the world so expect rain. My recommendation is to stay on the Big Island for a couple of days and do this tour as a self guided tour. It is interesting to see. You will want to go to the Mauna Loa. I would have spent more time there than the tour allowed. The Big Island is beautiful with white sand, black sand and even a green sand beaches.
