Hong Kong Island Half-Day Tour

Hong Kong, Hong Kong

Whether this is your first visit to Hong Kong or you’re returning to refresh old memories, this comprehensive orientation is a great way to get to know Hong Kong Island, its history and its famous landmarks. During your half-day tour, a knowledgeable guide takes you to see multiple Hong Kong highlights in this ever-changing locale, including Victoria Peak, Aberdeen fishing village and Stanley Market. Enjoy informative commentary and included round-trip transport from your hotel.

Note: Hong Kong Peak Tram is under maintenance from 5-9 June 2017. You will be arranged to take coach transfer to/from the Peak during this period of time.

Start your half-day tour of Hong Kong Island with hotel pickup, and head to the famous fishing village of Aberdeen. Here you'll see Hong Kong's junk-dwelling floating community, still very much a part of Hong Kong life. You have the option to board a sampan (at an additional cost), for a close-up view of waterborne life.

Next up is a short visit to a well-known jewelry factory, where craftsmen fashion meticulous works of art from gold and gems. Then pass picturesque Repulse Bay on the way to your next destination, the famous Stanley Market, where you can pick up bargains at just a fraction of the price in town.

Your tour of Hong Kong Island includes a tram ride for panoramic views of Hong Kong Island, Kowloon and the surrounding islands. With an eight-minute funicular railway ride, take in the sweeping vista of Hong Kong’s skyscrapers before you’re taken back to your hotel.

Highly recommend this tour, although we had overcast cloudy skies and some rain, we were still able to see visit the Aberdeen floating community and do the sampan ride which was so much fun. The views from Repulse bay to Victoria Peak are breathtaking._br/_ The tour guide was a delight as well.

Excellent half-day tour of Aberdeen fishing area, Stanley Market, and Victoria Peak. Little, if any, mention of other sites on Hong Kong Island so you're on your own for viewing them. A good way to cover out-of-downtown areas.

Didn't like the fact that they try to sell you on several things.

The tour was great and the tour guide we'll informed. Just wish their would have been more pickup locations.

Highly recommend, a great way to see the city and all the highlights!

Disappointing. Nothing to do while others took the Sanpan tour. Pointless ride to peak in zero visibility. Guide gave few if any interesting facts. Weather didnt, help but alternatives could perhaps have been substituted.

I am so glad to join this tour, especially when I am so short on time in Hong Kong. It's a worthwhile tour as I get to see most of Hong Kong's main tourist sites. Enjoyed Stanley immensely, only wished we had longer time there...instead of the jewellery tour. But oh well. Danny the tour guide was informative, and Simon was nice to take photos of us during the tour. I highly recommend this tour if you are in HK for a quick trip.

A well worthwhile orientation to Hong Kong island which incorporates all the major sites of interest. The trip was well organised and whilst I was not that interested in the visit to the jewellery factory others in the group found it interesting and it was relatively little time out of the day. The trip was well organised with a good guide Steve who was entertaining, informative and funny in his delivery. It was also well structured, and although we had to pay extra for the Chinese junk ride 70HKdollars, it was well worth it as it showed the diversity between fishing vessels, junks, houseboats and the mega yachts located in Aberdeen bay. It was also interesting to see the other side of the island with Repulse Bay and Stanley with it market, before concluding the trip with the visit to Victoria Point for the fantastic view over Hong Kong and Kowloon and the Peak Tram ride back into the city. A varied, interesting and good ntriduction to Hong Kong.

Very good overall, but we didnt get enough time at Stanley Market or The peak to allow time to eat. Otherwise, was very good and tour guild was very informative and friendly.

There is a lot to see in this half-day tour. Bring snacks and drinks with you as lunch is not served. Our tour guide gave us time to explore and walk around each area. There was a typhoon the day before our tour so that visibility at Victoria's peak was 0. The Peak was still enjoyable and the shops and restaurants were indoors and great for walking around. The tram ride down the Peak was great too. This is whole tour was wonderful and I would highly recommend.

Really interesting tour covering many different aspects of HK island._br/_ Good guide and good value for money. It took a long time to get the tour underway as morning traffic was a problem. However, I would recommend this tour.

We saw the main sights on Hong Kong Island. Biddy our guide was knowledgeable and spoke good English. We went for a sampan ride which was an extra cost, which took us out in the harbour amongst the fishing boats, other sampans and luxury yachts. We spent time at Dynasty Jewellers TCL Group. I found this was a rushed presentation just to get you through into their showroom and then it was a 'hard sell'. I found this was particularly off putting and intrusive. Simon who was accompanying Biddy was the 'photographer' and presented to each of us a 'package' of our one photo printed on a porcelain plate, selling at 250E! The tour was an easy way to 'see' Hong Kong in an overview. We had a 9 hour lay over at the airport, so this suited us perfectly.

Review by:   Andrea R,    October 2017 Review: 1 star rating: I do not recommend this
The trip was not what we expected. We spent the best part of an hour in a jewellery store supposedly to understand how the gems are cut etc. As it was a bank holiday there was only one person in the workshop who did a demo for a couple of minutes and then waved us away. The rest of the time was spent looked at jewellery and being harassed by staff members wanting to sell.

An enjoyable and informative tour. Our guide Biddy, was approachable and very knowledgeable with a great sense of humour thrown in. I would recommend this tour to others.

Another very good, well planned day although due to an impending storm, we only had a quick view of the two bridges. The monastery and Buddha were impressive and the sky ride was spectacular. A nice package of varied and interesting sites.

Great tour and experience. The sampan boat tour, even at extra cost, a true eye opener of the way some people lived on these waters.

Great tour and a good way to get to know Hong Kong Island. Good tour guide. You will end up paying HK70 for a tour on a Chinese Junk. I could have done without the stop at the jewelry factor a bit of hard sell, but several people on my tour bought things. Great tour guide.

This tour was good for the cable car ride, an overview of the city's history, and getting to know your geographic pinpoints. The Sampan is supposedly optional however they shimmy you on it very quickly so have the£70 HKD. They also take a photo after the Sampan which they charge £250HKD - rip off.

The tour was ok as an introduction to Hong Kong. Ithe jewellery factory was a waste of time and just a sales pitch. I'm glad that we did the tour - but think it could've been a whole lot better.

Great half day tour with highlights of Hong Kong if your time is limited. Short boat trip ideal for taking photos of the sampans - then walk round Stanley markets for souvenirs followed by drive up to the peak. Good views over the harbour from the peak although the view is better from viewing area further up which you can do if you have more time. Then steep ride down in the tram back to the city

Review by:   alan.heller,    May 2017 Review: 3 star rating: Worth doing
The tour included the main sites including Stanley market and Victoria Peak with an optional Sanpang ride for a small fee. The guide was helpful and informative and ran the tour at an easy pace. Although English speaking with good vocabulary, the guide's heavy accent made the commentary a bit difficult to understand at times over the microphone on the coach. The main down side was being taken to an up market jewellery factory where we had to sit through a sales pitch and film and then spend unnecessary time walking around a show room to endure quite heavy selling from the sales assistants. This should be removed from the tour as we could have spent more time at the top of Victoria Peak, where there was a shopping mall that was far more interesting.

My first visit to Hong Kong was made amazing by booking this tour. Very used to travelling on my own but was made to feel very welcome by Stephen Chow and the driver , very interesting guide, would recommend this tour as a first time visitor, and look forward to visiting again and booking on another tour with Viator.

This Viator half day island tour is so worth it! Every minute of the tour was informative, educational and interesting. At Aberden Bay, riding a sampan extra for the ticket is a must to see the houseboats moored next to modern yachts, see city view from the water. You can see washer/dryer, refrigerator and family dog on the houseboat. We even saw a 40/50 person dragonboat sitting on land. We didn't realize Aberdeen Bay area was a lower economic area....of course, many residents are fisherman! Another highlight was Victoria Peak where the bus dropped us off at the top to look at the awesome view of HK. The tram ride to the bottom was included in the tour. This half day tour is a must if you have only half day to see HK. You'll see the highlights and feel that you really saw HK!

An excellent introductory tour to Hon Kong island, spoiled a little by the weather which was wet and cloudy for a large part of the trip. But this should not detract from the itinerary, which covered all the major sites on the island very well, with a knowledgable guide.

Excellent tour with very hard working, knowledgable guide. It was the first time for my wife to visit Hong Kong and this tour was an excellent short introduction for her to familiarise herself with the place. The only slight problem on the day was the poor visibility due to mist and therefore the view from the Peak was zero but that is beyond anybody's control.

eh. something to do. gives you an idea of the city layout but too much time wasters at gem stores and mall. ridiculous. 2 hrs at a mall?! try to book a private tour.

This was the most disappointing tour I have booked with Viator. Our hotel was not on the pick up so we had to pay 30 HKD to get to the meeting place and then the same on return. The guide Dino was so disorganized i.e. didn't wait for group to disembark from the bus and walked away with only half the group. The rest of my group were left on the sidewalk trying to figure out in which direction he was going. When we found him he had already given his talk and was gone again. Stopped at a Diamond Company - this could be dropped from the tour, myself and other guests thought it 'was a waste of time'. Drove pass Repulse Beach so fast that no one saw it. Only good part of this tour was the ride 70 KHD on the Sampan in the harbour. Should have had a special tour group line for the Victoria Peak Tram - weather so bad didn't see anything but again Dino did not have the organized and passengers were mixed amongst the other passengers. In all was disappointing. This so-called half day tour was more like a full day we had to be at the meeting point at 9 am and returned at 3 pm. Enjoyed the full day Lantau Island trip much better and would recommend missing this half day tour and do the Hop On/Off in its place.

A good trip for getting to know Hong Kong in a short period of time, as with these trips be prepared to keep moving and to accept that you are a tourist!

Overall a very good way to see a lot of the Islamd if you have limited time. Highlight was the sampan boat tour of the harbour, which you have to pay for as an additional cost, but it's well, worth it? We did not particularly like the visit to a jewellery factory as it was not something we were at all interested in, and the salespeople were tiresome in their perseverance to sell us stuff. We could have done without that and it used up a lot of time. Wendy our tour guide, however, was first class. Recommended overall.

Little to be desired on this tour. It was very underwhelming and not as described. The guide was okay but the tour itself was of a very low quality, we didn't appreciate being taken to a jewellery factory and being ushered into a room and expected to buy something. Overall there are probably better tours to choose from. It was also not clear that you have to pay a separate fee for the boat cruise around the harbour at the beginning of the tour.

Did this tour on our first full day in Hong Kong . Ideal way to see the sights HK has to offer but also a good way to get your bearings and learn some of the history of this great island . Very good guide and driver , not rushed at any stop and plenty of time to explore on your own . Recommended , especially if it is your first time . Use this tour as a base to build from .

Though it was only a half day tour, we get to see what we wanted to visit. The Peak was the best but we only got 20 minutes which was not enough to look around. The Aberdeen with the optional sampan boat ride would be better spend up at The .Peak. Otherwise it was great tour with the guide very knowledgeable

Great tour !!! We were taken around in a very professional manner in a bus to see Hong Kong and experience its sights. There were about 15 of us. The guide was very informative and apart from keeping us entertained, he and his colleague the bus driver took good care of the some of the old folks in our tour group. We were given just enough time at each location to look around and to take photographs as well. We were taken for a boat ride, jewellery factory, Stanley Market, Temple, Victoria Peak and Tram Ride. The jewellery factory was avoidable honestly. We were taken for the tram ride from the top to the bottom which is a really good idea as there is a big line for people to go up on the tram ride and we would have wasted more than 30 minutes in queue if we had done that. The tour company took a photograph and presented us with a momento plate which was optional to buy. Most folks anyway bought it though.

THE TOUR WAS MOSTLY GREAT. THE JEWELRY FACTORY WAS UNNECESSARY AND FELT LIKE A WASTE OF TIME. THE OTHER STOPS WERE GREAT AND WE WERE GIVEN LOTS OF TIME. IT NEVER FELT RUSHED. DANNY WAS A GREAT GUIDE. HE IS KNOWLEDGABLE AND WAS HAPPY TO MAKE SUGGESTIONS FOR PLACES TO EAST.

It was a good experience. Few things could be improved. _br/_ Pick up was delayed from the hotel._br/_ Itinerary should clearly contain where all its going to take and how much time it will stay there._br/_ Jewellery factory visit was not good, those guys just want you to buy something and they run behind you._br/_ More time should be spent on top of Victoria peak.

We enjoyed our trip although the pick up arrangements weren't good. We came back to an email sent 2 days before advising us of the pick up point. We should've been given this information at the time of booking or preferably before booking as this involved additional cost to the tour. The guide was very informative and well organised. We felt the visit to the diamond factory a waste of time and quite pressurised. This time could have been spent better at another location.
