Macau Day Trip from Hong Kong

Hong Kong, Hong Kong

Complete your visit to Hong Kong with a day trip to Macau, once the oldest European settlement in the Orient. Sit back and relax as you sail across the sea from Hong Kong to Macau on a jetfoil or catamaran. Explore Macau's historical sites, such as the UNESCO World Heritage-listed Ruins of St Paul and A-Ma Temple (Macau Barra), and visit modern establishments like the Macau Tower with your expert guide. With lunch and round-trip hotel transport included, this full-day sightseeing tour is not to be missed!

Please note: Due to tight schedule, this product is not recommended to travelers who need to leave Hong Kong on the same day.

After your driver picks you up from your hotel, head to the ferry terminal to board a catamaran or jetfoil. Enjoy the 60-minute ride and admire the landscapes of both Hong Kong and Macau.

Upon arrival in Macau, a former Portuguese colony, begin your full-day sightseeing tour with a scenic drive along the Guia Circuit, where the Macau Grand Prix is held annually. Located along the Macau Peninsula, the street circuit is considered one of the world’s most challenging circuits, due to its elevation gain and tight corners.

Stop at Kun Iam Temple – where Marco Polo studied Buddhism – and gaze at the statue of Kum Iam, the Goddess of Mercy. Listen to your guide's informative remarks as you admire the bronze figure, which stands 66 feet (20 meters) high in embroidered silk, flanked by eighteen Buddhas.

Re-board your vehicle and proceed to Macau Tower, the 11th tallest tower in the world. Have your camera at the ready to capture this iconic Macau site, which reaches an astonishing height of 1,108 feet (338 meters)! Entry to the observation deck is optional (own expense).
Your guide will take you to Macau's historical center to visit the UNESCO World Heritage Site of A-Ma Temple, a graceful sanctuary built in 1488 in honor of Matsu, the goddess of seafarers. As you explore the halls guarded by stone lions, admire classical Chinese architectural features and hear folktales about the goddess who blesses and protects fishermen. Afterward, enjoy an international buffet lunch in a restaurant expertly selected by your guide.

Continue on to another World Heritage Site, the Ruins of St Paul, a 16th-century complex that originally included St Paul's College and the Cathedral of St Paul. Walk up the 66 steps to see the evocative remnants and imposing facade of this historical church, designed by Italians and built by Japanese Christian exiles. Admire the still-remarkable details, including intricate stone carvings and sculptures. Then, follow your guide on a short walk to the city center, designated another UNESCO World Heritage Site. Stroll along charming cobblestone streets, and pass quaint shops and local restaurants, in this pedestrian enclave.

Before leaving Macau, try your luck at the gambling tables of the world-famous Macau Casino. In this premiere card room, you can join one of the daily poker tournaments or play blackjack, Spanish 21, mini baccarat and more! After your comprehensive tour of Macau, return to Hong Kong via the jetfoil or catamaran, followed by drop-off at your Hong Kong hotel.

The tour guide kept having cigarette breaks in full view of us which isn't very savoury. There was no pick up from our HK Island hotel so we took a taxi to the nominated hotel. It was an early 7.30am pickup and we travelled on two coaches for over an hour and a half before arriving at the ferry terminal for a 9.45am ferry crossing. We later realised that the metro station was nearby so we returned using that and it only took 30 minutes! It would have been nice if the office staff had made the suggestion to us. The buffet lunchh was low quality and we spent too long at the hotel venue, everyone was just hanging around the foyer after lunch. Other than that, it was a good day trip.

A full day touring exotic Macau. The tour moved at a perfect pace for my family of four. Consideration for short breaks was given throughout the day and yet we were able to cover a lot of ground._br/_ I highly recommend this tour!

Great tour! The weather was terrible on the day I went, but not anyone's fault. Went to the top of Macau Tower, view was good what I could see. Went to the biggest and crowded casino, but no time to gamble, just walked through. Our tour guide seemed to have a problem with certain people that love to come to Macau just to gamble. Wish we had more time in the casino. Enjoyed the rest of the tour. Buffett lunch was just OK. Guide said we were having a late lunch, which we did at about 230p. He wanted to avoid the big crowds, but being that it was the ending of the buffet, it seemed like to food wasn't as hot as it should've been. Boat ride going from Kowloon to Macau was smooth and a great ride, but the return boat ride back was a little rough due to the weather. If you get seasick, make sure you're prepared. Definitely, recommend this tour, just pray for good weather, because views would be Amazing!

So no shopping means NO SHOPPING. We booked the historical tour which began at a casino shopping center! _br/_ Felt the morning was somewhat wasted on trivial things not historical. Once we got to the temple things got better in old Macau._br/_ But when we got off the bus to walk to the most visited site, the Cathedral wall, we ended up waiting for those in the group who went shopping! Five busses got off and were now ahead of us. Guide was good, but oftentimes repetitive. Would I recommend? No or perhaps, as there are certain points worthy of trip. I could have done all of this on my own and not been saddled in a cramped bus.

The tour was very well organised. We were picked up from, and returned to our hotel by taxi. Our guide Cisco was brilliant, he explained the need to meet up at the times he set and not keep everyone waiting. He gave us a great deal of information about everything we saw, he was very patient and happy to answer questions. As there was a lot to see we were given varying amounts of time at each location but we never felt hurried and there was plenty of time for photography. The lunch was very good with every taste was catered for. All in all we thought it was very good value and would certainly recommend it to anyone thinking about visiting Macao.

Tour was fairly good, but considering there were 42 people on our tour, I have no idea why the tour is so expensive. Also, the suicide jokes regarding the Macau tower were a bit offensive and in poor taste.

First time to visit Macao and it was a nice tour to go on. The guides were very friendly and helpful and showed us many places in quite a short space of time. Enjoyed the walk through the main part of town and would have liked to have maybe had that part of the tour last a little longer but i understand that we had to fit a lot into a short day.

The tour gave us the best sights of Macau.Mario our guide provided us with detailed information about the city.Nothing was left out and the lunch given was just o k.Being a vegetarian I would've preferred a vegetarian restaurant. I enjoyed the tour mostly because of Mario and his colourful descriptions of Macau

Sadly a cloudy day, our guide was mario._br/_ V knowledgable._br/_ Sadly for me, too much focus on casinos and not enough on the history. Lunch was late , 2pm, so ensure you have a big breakfast. Tour isa lot of walking , fine for me. Not great if unfit / elderly and not good on your feet.

We went on this tour during the Chinese New Year holiday and got Cisco as our guide. It was really nice not to plan our own visits and sightseeing in the city and Cisco was very energetic and fun to listen too. The tour was a little fast-paced but we did get to see a lot of different sights all within a 10 hour period. We even got to special order some Portuguese egg tarts which were amazing! Please keep in mind that this is not a shopping or a gambling tour, so although we did get to do a little bit of both, it was not long maybe 20-30 minutes. At the end of the tour we were told that some people had requested to stay later and have their return ticket at a later time so they could stay longer. I would recommend doing this if you want to stay and gamble/shop. Overall it was a great trip!

Tour guide was good, a little outspoken. BUSY time of year, Macau in itself is a busy place. Got to see the go to attractions. Not entirely worth the price but only recommend if you have extra time...

As with most of these quick day excursions, the quality of the experience was very much a function of the tour guide and Mario was very good indeed. Funny, knowledgeable and a bit quirky, he made the experience. I would recommend a tour with him anytime. The only significant glitch for us was the pick up. We were given a rather vague pick up point a hotel lobby in a hotel that has more than one lobby and the contact person was 10 minutes late so that caused some anxiety. A small thing to remedy, though.

This is a good tour. The tour guide Cisco was funny even without trying and was very knowledgeable and was full of good tour tips. Again, Senior ictizens should be warned of the amount of walking it will involve leading to Jackie Chan's casino, although seeing the gold bars on the floor made the longish walk worth it.

Good but very rushed and too many people. It was very rushed and the guide kept on pushing us ,he was very controlling. I can understand it as 43 people on board but we didn't have lunch to 3 pm and people were becoming dehydrated. Would probably do on my own at a more lesiure paced. It was a exhausting day

Interesting to see other areas of Asia as I was staying in Hong Kong but wanted to see other places and this tour gives you the opportunity to explore Macau. The boat ride jet foil is an hour long, don't forget to bring your passport. A lot of casinos there, they mimic Las Vegas as there is a MGM, Venetian, Sands, and Wynn. Heard they are going to build more. Our guide Cisco did an excellent job! He was both informative about Macau and kept us entertained funny guy! Visiting a temple, the ruins, and the town itself was great. You must buy a box of Portugese Egg Tart from the Ko Kei Bakery....absolutely mouth watering, better than the egg tarts you would get in a typical Chinese restaurant in the U.S. This is far way better for your palate. The only negative is that I think if it's going to be a large group, to maybe have 2 guides as we were a group of 40. I think it was a bit hard for Cisco to constantly do head counts more than once each time we separated then had to re-group in a certain amount of time. There was one fella that kept the group waiting more than once as he would lag back to the meeting area. That's a bit rude as our guide had told us repeatedly to be on time to the meeting place and he would violate it everytime! Expect to be back at your hotel late, got back to my hotel later than I thought, instead of 6:30pm it's an 11 hr. tour and I got picked up @ 7:30am, last one I got back close to 8pm so couldn't go to the restaurant I was planning on having dinner at. Otherwise, it was an enjoyable tour.

As you may have seen many reviews about this tour, Mario is the guide to have. He was superb - entertaining, knowledgable, funny and knew all the vantage points for photos, purchases and generally how to get the best out of the very full day. It is non stop with little time to dawdle but that was great for me with limited to time to see as much as possible. If you are in HK a must, but a day was enough for me as gambling and casinos aren't high on my agenda.

This tour was great if the guide had incorporated all the sights were supposed to see. We lost almost an hour as he had taken on an additional group besides us in this tour and we had to wait for them to arrive and this left us not getting what was supposed to be included in this tour. The guide would not take us to the hotels as he stated we would not have enough time which we would have if he hadn't taken on another tour group. I met other travelers who had taken this tour the day before and they relayed the same situation only there were several male travelers that challenged this guide and said they did not come halfway around the world not to see what they had come to see so the guide had no choice but to take them to all the sights. I guess i went on the wrong day as we did not have vocal male travelers with us.

We loved our tour guide! Although this was a big-group tour, our guide made sure that there was something for everyone. We were able to see so much of Macau in such a short time, which we definitely would not have been able to do ourselves. One thing to note was that time is spent going up to the top of the Macau Tower, so if you don't like heights, about 30 minutes is spent waiting at the bottom part of the tower if you decide not to go up. However, if you want a great view, the tower is a fun, unique experience. My partner stayed at the bottom of the tower, but I went up and saw some great views along with getting to stand right on the other side of the window where bungee jumpers jump off the tower. It was so cool to see them jump so close! The Tower, combined with the UNESCO sites and temple made the tour worth it. The tour guide also had the group stop by a great bakery so that we were able to get a taste of local culture.

The tour guide was knowledgeable and great--very entertaining character. My issue with the tour is Macau itself. There's not much to see. Comes across as a low-scale Las Vegas of the Orient. Full of stoic faced Chinese gamblers in seedy looking casinos, or out shopping in loud noisy droves. Not worth it. Getting through customs is hell.

Our recent trip to Macau was a fun day. We visited a casino early so we could move on. I hoped we wouldn't spend too much time there._br/_ Luckily we got a flash mob of violinists at the casino - they were great. We saw a bungey jump up close. We visited the old part of Macau with the heavy rain cloud as a back drop. Everything went smoothly. Our guide was knowledgeable and funny. Would highly recommend this trip.

I really enjoyed the tour guide and the sights were very nice. The group size was too large (32) and the hotel lunch was not authentic, cold, and below average. I would rate it a 3 because of group size, but the guide was fantastic so I give it a 4.

The trip to Macau was really awesome. Mario is a super host. He is knowledge of the area and direct commentary and delivers with a great deal of humor. While the casins were the least interested aspect of the trip. This history lesson was well worth a the full day adventure. On another note while the ferry is pretty cool. This group tour seats guest in the middle 4 seats not window view and the departure and arrival into Hong Kong is a view you'll want to observe. The upside is -- there is wi-fi on the ferry! Lunch was delish and you'll get to know your tour mates. Be prepared to walk the UNESCO site is one to be view and the area is crowded. I skipped the Casino free time and had libations not included in the hotel lounge until it was time to depart.

Pick up at the hotel and upon return right on schedule. Ferry ride was enjoyable. At Macao we were met by Mario a most gracious guide. _br/_ We hit the Venicion casino and had time to wonder and do pics. As we rode our bus Mario gave us a slew of info and fun facts about Macao. A local bakery and souvenir shop gave us a chance to do some shopping. Lunch was a delicious buffet. The Tower, St. Paul's church were interesting. Walking the old city was a treat. My only could of done without was Jackie Chans casino to look at gold bars. _br/_ Very grateful also to meet some fun co travelers. Mario and our bus driver took good care of us. My thanks to them. Good deal.
