Glacier Skywalk Admission

Jasper, Canada

Admire Jasper National Park’s spectacular beauty from the illuminating and exciting Glacier Skywalk. A 1,312-foot-long (400-meter) walkway that extends nearly 100 feet (30 meters) into Sunwapta Valley, the Glacier Skywalk provides unobstructed views of Alberta’s mountain peaks and glacier-formed valleys. The observation platform at the end of the walkway puts you almost 1,000 feet above the valley floor, with a glass bottom to give you an extra thrilling experience.

Your Glacier Skywalk experience begins at the Columbia Icefield Glacier Discovery Centre, located in Jasper National Park about 1 hour southeast of Jasper on the Icefields Parkway — one of the most stunning highways in the world, with views of more than 100 glaciers and other alpine landscapes. The drive from Jasper takes you past Athabasca Falls and Sunwapta Canyon.

After arrival at the Discovery Centre, board a coach for the five-minute transfer to the Glacier Skywalk. When you arrive, you are free to explore the Skywalk at your leisure; it is recommended that you give yourself at least 45 minutes, but you may stay all the way up to closing time, when the last coach will depart for the transfer back to the Discovery Centre.

From the Discovery Centre, drive yourself back to Jasper if that's the way you came, or return on the shuttle, which leaves once per evening. If you're left with extra time before your shuttle departs, check out the Discovery Centre's curio shop for souvenirs, clothing and postcards. Food and drinks may be purchased at your own expense from the onsite cafeteria or dining room; there are no food or drink facilities at the Skywalk, a decision that was made to help reduce the site's ecological footprint.

The Glacier Skywalk is made up of two sections, which you may explore and enjoy at your own pace:

Discovery Trail
As you walk along this cliff-edge boardwalk in the Sunwapta Valley, admire the stunning mountain vistas and enjoy the interpretive displays that strive to introduce you to the geological history and current physical features of Canada’s mighty glaciers. Learn about how water shaped this landscape millions of years ago, the ancient sea creatures that once lived here, the tough survival instincts of various life forms, the eco-friendly design and construction of the Skywalk, the plant life that lives in this region, and the way water flows from the Columbia Icefield to the Arctic, Pacific and Atlantic oceans.

Discovery Vista
Perched at the end of the Discovery Trail is this glass-bottomed platform that stands 918 feet (280 meters) above the Sunwapta Valley. It’s a thrilling way to enjoy the gorgeous views of the valley and the snow-capped mountain peaks.

Disappointed in the fact that calling it a Glacier skywalk led us to believe it was over a glacier, not where there once was a glacier.

Badly signposted from Jasper end of the ice fields parkway. The actual discovery centre was a few kilometres down the road from the skywalk. The discovery centre was extremely busy like an airport. Even though we had a ticket from Viator, we still had to queue up to have our ticket verified then queue for for bus to take us to the skywalk. Could not arrange the weather but it it poured with rain and high wind when we got there so saw very little. No sign of any glaciers except the dry u shaped valley which could be seen from the roadside. Long queue and wait in the rain to wait for the shuttle back. We wished we had parked in the car park near the actual Athabaska glacier so we could do the trail right up to see it it but as so much time wasted waiting for buses etc we ran out of time as it was getting late to get to our next destination. A waste of money and time.Very disappointed.

I did not get to go on this tour, and the number on the itinerary was a dead number. This tour comes up as part of Jasper excursions but it 1.5hrs drive and whilst I accept my failing in not realising the inability to get there without own car. The incorrect telephone number for Brewster on the voucher is a failing of Viator.

It was an interesting activity. The view was wonderful. It's the kind of thing you do only once for the experience.

This is interesting to see. But really it and #39;s just a Skywalk so there and #39;s not much to say because it and #39;s pretty much what you and #39;d expect. The only reason I gave it 4 stars was that there are no clear signs indicating where to buy tickets. That wasted a lot of time driving back and forth.

Great tour. We really enjoyed it. My only issue is we booked online but when you get there you get given a time, ours was 1.5 hours after arrival. Not that much to do so seemed a waste but this is a minor thing. Still very much worth doing!

It is quite ridiculous. Don't advertise it as 'glacier'. It is over a dry, gravelly bed.

It was beautiful. The views were stunning and even this scared of heights person did well. The glass on the bridge was very clear and we could see bighorn sheep grazing under the bridge.

was an interesting experience and great scenic vista's. Purchased my tickets on Viator before the trip and had them in an electronic format. This then needs to be emailed to their admissions desk, printed out and manually re-entered to print boarding tickets. The queue was long and inefficient. Would have been just as quick to stand in the normal queue and probably a faster experience once at the front of the queue. To continue promoting the purchase prior to arrival, suggest that discussions are held with the Glacier Skywalk attraction to move into the 21st century to accept electronic tickets...

It was very expensive for what you got. The glass on the skywalk is starting to get really scuffed up. It's hard to see through clearly in most spots.

An overhyped tour. The Skywalk is an impressive piece of construction but no more. The views are average and can be seen from the road side at no cost. Too long is spent waiting for coaches to take you back and forth and the actual Skywalk is rather dull.

Worth doing. Great views, although I expected more Glacier views then an education on topography.
