This luau was really good. We got picked up by a tour wagon and went through the garden to get to the area of the luau. They dropped us off in the area where we would eat. Before we got to that area, we walked to watch them dig up the pig that was cooking in the ground with other foods. The buffet was plenty and very organized. They even told us to go back for seconds and thirds. They had entertainment on a stage right by our table while we ate. They also had audience participation. After the great meal, we walked a path to where the luau was taking place. It was an area that was covered in case of rain. It did rain but the rain let up for the show. They also supplied big umbrellas and shell lei's for us to wear. There were so many acts of music of all kinds of the Hawaii culture. So colorful and very exciting. They were on a stage that looked like it was floating on the water....the reflections of it all was in the water to make it more beautiful. 3 others went with us to hawaii but didn't get to book this Luau cause it was sold out. They went to other luaus and we compared notes and I showed them clips of all the acts I saw and dances and stories. They were so impressed and said next time they were going to go to the Smith Family one cause theirs never even came close to ours in entertainment. After hearing about their luau's and knowing what I saw, I will go to the Smith family luau again. We also met a few of the Smith family and they were so down to earth and a joy to talk with.

Food was excellent. Although there were a lot of people the Smith family really makes the luau a special night. I enjoyed the food, history, gardens, and show.

This place was very organized! After showing our voucher and getting tickets, we were directed to the trams tour which took us around the beautiful grounds and gardens. We had about 30 min. to explore and then saw the cooked pig removed from underground. Food delicious!

If you ask anyone about the different Luau around, they will all tell you that this is the best one. If you're on the Pride of America cruise ship, do not take the luau they are offering. Opt to get this one as the Smith Family will show you a great time. The grounds are fantastic, the meal is fantastic and the show is just as fantastic.

This is not our typical vacation activity, but being in Hawaii with kids going to a Luau. We went in to this with expectation of a cheesy canned activity with mediocre food and entertainment. We were pleasantly surprised. Kauai is an expensive place to have a small business. For this reason, you're not going to a find the 60's era Luau with 30 guests. The family, several generations of it, are all involved in the events. They do a good job of trying to make it feel small, while having it large enough to be sustainable. The grounds are beautiful, if possible make time to arrive a little early so you can walk around them on your own. There is a nice ceremony where they un-earth the pit roasted pig, the family offers lots of useful information on the process and some history. Mai Tai's were good, and from the time you go to dinner until the start of the show it is literally all you can drink. We found most food in Hawaii is like a blend of drunk/street food and a barbecue in grandmas back yard The food here was better than we expected, for a buffet serving a couple hundred people it's certainly better, and fresher tasting than most weddings I've attended, the pork was probably the highlight. Try the Poi, it's not really that bad. They had plenty of food. During dinner the family plays Hawaiian music and entertains you, the kids can get up on stage and dance the hookie lau, which is really fun for them. Again, I expected all this to be sort of phoned-in, since they have to do this all the time, but they really seem to enjoy what they do and got lots of laughs and smiles. After dinner it's a short walk to the theatre for the show. If you go into this type of event expecting Hollywood level production value, you will be disappointed. That being said, they obviously have put a lot of effort into the show, and they do a pretty darn good job of keeping you entertained, while showing dances from many of the cultures who came to live on Hawaii. We left with full bellies, a smiling child, learned a few things we didn't know, and really felt we really got a good value for what we spent, not always common in Hawaii. I would recommend this Luau.

The Smith Family Luau was great. We were running an hour late getting there, but even so we didn't miss dinner or much entertainment or drinks, though we had to walk through the garden rather than getting the mobile tour and description. The food was very good kahlua pig, chicken, fish, beef, vegetables, fruits, salads, poi, etc, and I had to restrain myself from going back again and again. You can get weak Mai Tais, fruit punch and Longboard or light beer, as much as you want before they shut down the dinner venue. Then you walk down to the theater. We managed to get front row seats even though there were hundreds in there before us, but even those in back got good views, since seating goes up as you go back. Front row seats made picture taking much better. They had the typical Polynesian Luau dancing plus Filipino, Japanese and New Zealand dances, with a haka by a group of men that seemed to confuse lots of people, because it didn't get much reaction. There was a meet and greet at the end. We all had a great time!

Dinner was amazing as were the views. My wife and i have been to Maui as well and saw a Luau against the water, this was a new and great experience. All the different cultures that were preformed gave us so much back ground as to how Hawaii culture became Hawaii culture, Dancers were a bit young and seemed a little inexperienced but overall would definitely recommend.

After a drive round the beautiful gardens we watched as the cooked pig was removed from the ground oven. Then we found seats at long tables and collected our first local drink made of rum 'Mai Tai' and fruits. It was a buffet for the meal with local foods including the roast pig and it was really delicious. Then we walked to the seating area and watched a fantastic show of dancing, singing and lighting effects. Definitely worth the price of admission!

This place is a mahor rip-off. What may attract people to this place is probably pricing. Food was not that great and the show seemed like it was watching a bunch of high school students doing a show or live-action looney toons doing japanese and mexican culture dancing.

This was an absolutely amazing luau! Our taxi driver told us it was the best on the island and we completely agree with his assessment - it was wonderful! The setting was beautiful, the food was exceptionally delicious, and the hospitality of the Smith family was incomparable! The entertainment was fabulous and in the perfect surroundings for an Hawaiian Paradise adventure - what an incredible value for the money spent! Would definitely recommend this luau for anyone traveling to Kauai!

Great tram ride tour of the grounds, food and entertainment! I gave it 4 stars because I was informed that hotel pick up was not available, yet when I was leaving my hotel for the luau, the Smith Family bus was waiting for others in my parking lot.

I took my daughter to Hawaii and we were very excited for the luau. At dinnertime, the tables were reserved for large groups and we couldn't find a place to sit. We asked a hostess to find us seats, but she was scolded by another hostess who was saving seats for another family, maybe her friends. We were finally allowed to sit and enjoyed the meal. At the luau, there was a group of young adults who were laughing, kissing, and getting up during the performances. It was disappointing to see sun a lack of respect for the performers and other guests. It would be best to go with a group at least to the dinner.

This was the least expensive luau offered. After we purchased tickets we found out from locals that this was the best one on the island! The food was delicious and the and #34;rhythm of Aloha and #34; show was beautiful. It took place on the Smith and #39;s family property that was beautifully landscaped.

This Luau was awesome. It was interesting to see how the pig was traditionally cooked and prepared. The food was great. There were a lot of people to feed, but the line went fast and there was plenty of food. The plants and flowers were beautiful. The show at the end was really interesting to see how the different cultures helped out on the island.

We greatly enjoyed this family activity. It was intended to be part of a trip to Hawaii we had purchased for our whole family in celebration of my parent's 60th wedding anniversary. Unfortunately, they were unable to attend due to my mom's health. Smith's Tropical Paradise Luau refunded me the price of their luau tickets, and we were able to enjoy the dinner and the show as a smaller group. The only concern we had was that we felt the dinner was slightly misrepresented by pictures of a sunset on the beach. The luau was not on the beach. Our plan for a family photo with the sun setting on the beach did not materialize, and we had to pay 20 to receive the photo they took of us upon immediately entering the gate. We had also hoped to have more time walking around the grounds, but by the time the train tour was complete, the dinner was ready to be served. The show began shortly thereafter. All in all, it was a beautiful evening, and the food was wonderful!

Only downside was number of people attending. Luau is held under a large open canope and I had thought it was to be on the beach per se...

it was my girlfriend's 26th birthday and i was SO excited to go to a luau. i had no idea we were going to be having dinner in a banquet hall-like setting herded like cows through the buffet line, there were at least 600 people there. the entertainment during dinner was god awful, it was honestly a luau for tourists, and the host was not funny at all. jokes so cheesy we almost left. after dinner we were once again herded like cows to the theater, where there was a luau. after the 3rd dance, we seriously almost left. they brought in dances from phillipines, japan, china, etc. all horribly done and you can tell the performers are burnt out. they didn't even look excited to be in the show anymore. the only exciting performer was the fire dance with the burning torch which they saved for last of course. we should have just left after dinner but that would have been a 80 dinner so we grudgingly stayed for the show.

This was far more than just a Luau. We got a narrated tour of the grounds and gardens on a trolley, an explanation of how the pig is roasted, a great meal that was served in a very organized manner, followed by an entertaing show performed in a small outdoor auditorium.. I highly recommend Smith's Luau.

This was our third Luau in Hawaii. By the description I was under the impression that it will be by the ocean. When we got there it was in the Gardens near the River ....The food was great, the singing while dinning was too low to hear, because of the open pavilion and everyone talking. Afterwards the show was fantastic, the setting very unique.

It was what we needed... Even in the rain the staff made it work and the show was worth seeing. Banquet style dinning is never the preferred but the food was good as well. Everyone needs to see a Luau while in Hawaii, the Smith's family will make it worth your while.
