Waimea Canyon Bicycle Downhill

Waimea Canyon Bicycle Downhill

Kauai, United States of America

This fun and exciting Kauai biking tour is a cruise through Koke'e State Park and Waimea Canyon State Park. You'll be Kauai mountain biking from the rim of the famed Waimea Canyon (elevation 3600 feet or 1100 meters) down 12 miles (19km) of smooth winding blacktop all the way to the shore of the blue Pacific. It's 100% downhill, and 100% fun!

You can coast at the crack of dawn, or, cruise it at the end of the day. The early birds will be blessed with soft low angled light that draws out the colors of the spectacular canyon. You won't be snoozin' - you'll be cruisin'! An "in-flight" beverage service of fresh-brewed Kauai Coffee and blueberry muffins hot out of the oven is included as you ride up in the van to begin your Kauai biking tour.

If you're not into the early bird thing, try the late afternoon tour. You'll still enjoy the same low angled light for accentuation of the canyon's rugged terrain, only from the west rather than the east. Shadows and colors jump out with soft, brilliant greens, reds and purple highlights. In addition, the forbidden Island of Niihau is visible off to the west. Cold soft drinks, spring water and Kauai cookies will be served on the afternoon tour.

Comfortable helmets and safe operating procedures make for a ride that's safe and controlled, but still fun and exciting. You'll be riding through one of the most beautiful and interesting places on the planet, so of course, you'll stop along the way for photos and narrative on history, culture, folklore and legends. You'll get hands-on and identify native plants, birds and trees. You'll be able to quiz your guides about the best Kauai hiking trails located in Koke'e State Park and Waimea Canyon State Park while you're in the area. As well as having a fun ride in a beautiful place, you'll learn about what makes Kauai special!

Not something you do everyday! I would do it again.

This is a really fun experience. You take a van that seats 12 up the canyon and then bike down it. It can be fast going around curves that can be 90 degree angles, but super fun! Im 63 and managed quite nicely! After stopping for photo ops part way down in a few locations, you end up riding to the beach to watch the sunset and enjoy water and a snack. Our guides were Isaac and Kevin, who were both a lot of fun, super informative, and made the trip a super delight! Highly recommend this adventure!

This was indeed fun but nearly an hour to get to the starting point and all in a fully packed 15 passenger van with poor ventilation was not enjoyable. The bikes were worn out looking beach combers, although did have very good disc brakes of course. Expected a bit better bike for the ride being all down hill and at time fast. The guides were colorful and fun, just not sure of all the historical facts about Kauai were correct. One fact I'm sure of from them, you can live off Spam and Ramon with a pinch of Soy sauce for 1 a day. :

This was an amazing excursion. Keith and Zach were our guides and they made sure we were safe and comfortable the entire time. They also provided some history and even a little botany._br/_ The bikes are beach cruisers and they keep several spares available in case there are any issues on the ride down. They give you a little practice run before you get on the road in order to test your bike riding ability as well as let you feel what the bikes are like._br/_ You don't have to be terribly physically fit because mostly you are gripping your brakes as you fly down 12 miles of paved road. Although there was traffic coming up the hill while we rode down, no one ever passed us going down the hill which might have been because we had the early morning excursion. We liked in the early morning excursion because the weather was perfect without being hot. _br/_ The guys provided coffee and great blueberry muffins for the drive up which took about 45 minutes . If you get car sick, I'd suggest sitting closer to the front of the van because we were in the back row and its definitely a twisty road. I generally don't get motion sick, but even I was a little nauseous on occasion._br/_ It is a great trip and I'd suggest it to anyone looking for some time away from the beach and the opportunity to see some wonderful landscape. _br/_ The guys were also very good about pointing out local gems for food and sightseeing. They even swung by the coffee plantation by mutual agreement of all of us on the tour. They really want you to have a good time and it shows. Zach and Keith are very laid back and easy to interact with. They are super knowledgeable And have great anecdotes to tell on the drive up. Above all, your safety is key and they keep the tour size relatively small, which makes for a better, more specialized experience._br/_ You won't regret taking this tour.

The Canyon is breathtaking and the down hill run is a hoot. The leaders correctly emphasized safety, especially important for novice riders. My only criticism is that the number people exceeded the capacity of the van used to transport the riders to and from the site.

I enjoyed this tour much more than expected. So much fun. Literally we coasted, well, braked, down the canyon. It was exhilarating. I recommend this for a different type of tour. Scenery was breathtaking.

The guides where great once we got out of bus and on the bikes. During bus ride to top of trail/road, they talked a lot but I sat in back of bus and could not hear what they said. Bikes very. Comfortable. They correct, only part of body that got any exercise were the hands using the breaks. Whole trip down hill. Was fun ride. They would stop and give a lot of good island info. Very few scenic sights off the road so found that a little disappointing. Overall was happy with it, but I really enjoy being on a bicycle.

This was a great trip with Muppy and Ryan - nice and cruisey not a rushed or hectic tour. They also have great knowledge of the local area.

What a fun experience! The bicycle trip was very well organized, the guides well-versed and expert in their fields._br/_ The bike trip is a great family event...mostly downhill, making the need only to brake the bike to slow it down and some flat riding._br/_ The day starts with a trial for each of us on the bikes, then we travel 40 minutes to the top of the canyon, stopping to take in some views and photos along the way. Once we get to the top, the bikes are unloaded and you begin your descent down, stopping regularly along the way. You travel close to 12 miles in a bit over an hour or so. Fun for all!!!

Ryan and Dee ROCK!!! Okay, so you know its an easy ride downhill on a cruiser bike. But if you want to really see the canyon and you do, on this tour, someone else drives you to the top at sun rise and you get the 360 view you want riding down on the bike. But even better, Ryan keeps you entertained the entire trip while at the same time giving you an excellent flavor of Kauai history and culture with timely tip ins by Dee. Then Dee after a brief trial period reorganizes the group, allowing the more experienced riders to the front. Then the last few miles, she lets those with the need for speed actually to the descent! Exhilarating and Awesome. A to Ryan and Dee!!

Great to do for something different. Downhill so anyone that can get on a bicycle can do this. Gorgeous view. If you get cold quickly take a sweater or light jacket.

The canyon view was gorgeous and the bicycle ride was an easy one. We easily could have driven to the canyon lookout by ourselves. My wife and I had thought and hoped to actually get into the canyon and this trip does not accomplish this._br/_ However, the guides were friendly and informative, and the trip itself was worthwhile. The trip is unique and worthwhile.

Pretty good. Decent if your looking for something relatively relaxing to do in the afternoon. Nice views but just know that a lot of the biking route does not have a view of the canyon. You will stop at a couple lookouts for the views. Good tour guides, I enjoyed it.

Our family had a great time doing this. The guides were incredibly knowledgeable about the towns we passed on the way up, the flora and fauna, as well as the history of the area. The canyon is gorgeous. I would recommend this to anyone comfortable on a bike. It's all downhill. Practically no pedaling at all and the views are beautiful.

They took us to an outlook, and the view is breathtaking. Then we started biking. The guys were really friendly and showed us all the sights and told us about plants and Hawaiian legends. The ride down was fun and not difficult at all. I liked the bikes too. They were comfortable and appropriate for this ride.

I was very thankful for Viator's response ( a full refund of my portion ) to my unexpected backing out from the bicycle trip; I panicked and couldn't go through with the downhill bike ride. The staff at Outfitters Kauai were super also; they didn't make me feel embarrassed, etc. Thanks, Viator, for your good will with my refund. I'll definitely recommend you to friends and will use you again in the future!

This was an awesome tour! Really enjoyed this activity. Scenery is breathtaking and bikes very comfy. Aaron, our tour guide, was very informative and gave us so much history. Our driver and Aaron made sure we had a safe and fun ride. Morning coffee, muffins and cookies were scrumtious. We saw so many rainbows, including double rainbows. I would do this again in a heartbeat!

Guides were fun and energetic. I appreciated the explanation of the demise of the sugar plantations and what has transpired since. Very knowledgeable of local fauna and flora, very safety conscious, and covered our backs (the van follows after the last rider and kept cars away). Nice views of the canyon - exhilarating ride! No pedaling! Excellent equipment.

This was a great tour. Downhill 12 mile ride. Scenery was stunning. The tour guides, Nick and Harold were absolutely great. Informative, funny and very professional at the same time. We loved it so much, we signed up for their zip lining tour two days later. A++++

This was a trip we will always remember. The beauty of the canyon was breathtaking. Our guides made sure that safety was paramount. Our group was diverse with ages and we all had a great time together. The information our guides told us of the area and island was so interesting. We will always have fond memories of our ride down the mountain. It was exhilerating and a lot of fun. Mahalo

Hadn't rode a bike in 50 years so was a little apprehensive about going on this tour. We have our son with us on this trip and this was his choice of things to do. It was fantastic. Harold and Travis were so friendly and nice and put safety first. I was the last in the group when they finally said we could go as fast as we wanted but I was thinking of getting to the bottom in one piece so they all left me in the dust (with Harold following behind me in the van). I would highly recommend this tour - especially if you want to get up close with the canyon. Well worth the money.

After a beautiful ride up to Waimea Canyon, in our van, we were struck breathless with the beauty of our surroundings! Our guides narrated the entire trip so that we could more fully enjoy the sights. They made us feel safe about our downhill biking experience--not a small thing for someone like me who has not been on a bike in forty years! We never felt rushed as we biked and stopped several times to take a closer look and enjoy a refreshing snack. Then we were allowed to go FASTER on the last stretch of road, if we chose to do so. And several of us did--what fun!!

The views coming down the road are simply amazing! Cruising in the car just doesn't give you the same perspective that cruising on the bicycle does. The guides do a good job of stopping along the way and pointing out trees, fruits, etc., that are native to Kauai. The only downside is the cost for a not-that-long bike ride.
