Ketchikan Shore Excursion: Off-Road Jeep and Canoe Safari
Ketchikan, United States of America
Fill your need for adventure and excitement while in Ketchikan on this four-hour off-road Jeep and canoe tour ! Take control of a four-wheel- drive Jeep Wrangler® and drive through the rugged back roads of Tongass National Forest. Then join your companions in a Native American-style canoe to paddle across a mountain lake, where a hearty snack and a nature hike await you. While driving and canoeing, keep your eyes open for bald eagles, moose, dear, porcupines and the occasional bear!
While you’re in port, embrace Ketchikan’s natural beauty on this quintessential Alaskan tour on Revillagigedo Island (the same island on which Ketchikan is located). This combo tour allows you to enjoy the great outdoors in both a Jeep and canoe!
The driving portion of your adventure starts as you are grouped with three fellow travelers for your tour of the mountainous terrain of Tongass National Forest. Follow the route through the lush rainforest and up mountain roads to admire the spectacular scenery. Through the two-way radios, your group leader and guide will offer interesting and informative commentary as you drive. Be fascinated by the area’s natural history as you pass through old-growth and new-growth forests and pull-over for some fantastic. Along the way, stop to change drivers so that anyone who wants to get behind the wheel will have the opportunity.
Your Jeep adventure ends at Lake Harriet Hunt, where you’ll leave the Jeep behind for a quieter form of transport – a 37-foot (11-meter), 20-person canoe! Experience this unique Alaskan ecosystem as you paddle the large, Native American-style canoe across the lake with your guide. When you reach the other side of the lake, your expert guide will lead you on a nature hike through an old-growth forest.
During your nature walk, take a break, relax and enjoy your Alaskan snack at a remote camp in Tongass National Forest! Refuel with smoked salmon, clam chowder, fresh bread rolls with local wild-berry jam, hot chocolate, coffee and more. The tour ends with a short narrated transfer back to the cruise port.

Overall the excursion was fun. The canoe ride wasn't too far, but there was no walk in the woods. It would of been nice if we could have done that. That's the only reason I dock it by one star. The off roading was a lot of fun. The guide was knowledgeable and friendly. Overall I would recommend it.

This a great excursion. We loved the canoe ride and the jeep ride was fun too. Oliver, our tour guide did a great job. The clam chowder and not chocolate was great. Could have used a little more time to enjoy it though.

The jeep ride was truly off-road. Only wish we could have viewed more wildlife. The canoe trip was excellent, the food tasty, and the nature walk very interesting.

Wow, this was an amazing excursion we booked separately from the Disney Cruise. So worth it...small group, safe vehicles and knowledgeable, fun, guides. The canoe safari, lake and salmon bake were ideal. One blip... we were the last excursion of the day and the bus that was suppose to take us back to base, forgot us. The guide had to paddle back out to the middle of the lake to get cell reception, to remind them we were there. delay was less than an hour. Because we were a small group, there were no real complaints. However, had this been an excursion booked from the ship, it would have probably gotten ugly. Take bug repellant as the bugs around the lake were plentiful.

Jeep was absolutely a ton of fun! Canoe in the rain a little less so, but still fun, not long, and they had hot clam chowder and hot chocolate for us, plus a short walk in the woods. Canoeing back was beautiful, rain had stopped and the view was awesome. Overall great excursion, we could not stop laughing on the jeep ride!

A good tour, access to experiences, views, and information probably not available other ways, tour guides were safe, very informative and many first hand experiences which added a great deal to the tour and information, the cookout was great, enjoyed the up close and personal access to the flora and fauna.

Live the bantering between guides Kevin and Jansen, they make the trip fun! Canoe portion was OK nothing exciting. Self drive jeep drive up a rocky bumpy Tongas mountain was awesome!

The tour itself was great - really fun time doing both the canoe trip delicious clam chowder and salmon snacks, and the jeep off-road tour. People were very friendly, but just two comments that made us give a lower rating - first, our Jeep guide Daron would not stop talking about the few types of trees that we saw - should have just given us a brief story, and let us admire the scenery in peace for the rest of the time. Second, the scheduled time for the trip just barely fits in to the allotted time we had from the cruise ship. We ended up making it back in time, but were actually later than the scheduled departure time. They guaranteed they would transport us to the next stop if needed, but that's not good enough. We would have been furious if we did not make it back in time. My wife and I both felt our blood pressure increase with each passing late minute - they need to make the trip just 15-30 minutes shorter or depart 30 minutes earlier and eliminate any avoidable stress.

Should have been cancelled. Weather was terrible.

The bus drivers and tour guides on our trip were very knowledgable and entertaining. We did the canoe portion of the tour first and Harriet Hunt Lake was absolutely stunning. The snack and very informative nature walk were an unexpected bonus. The jeep portion was fun, especially the off-road section, and the view from the top of the road was worth the drive. My only suggestion would be to make the off-road oration longer.

Loved this shore excursion. The tour guide was very prompt, professional and always guided us through the excursion. Got to drive the jeep and it was blast. Then when in the canoe, got to see the beautiful scenery Ketchikan has to offer and had the opportunity to enjoy the stories and facts of Alaska then had the chance to taste the chowder and salmon, which was awesome.

Awesome and well-organized experience! All the staff involved were professional. Enjoyed the views from jeep ride, spectacular canoe experience, and LOVED the information given during nature tour. The snack at the end an excellent bonus and our family would go again in a heartbeat!

The trip was a lot of fun. It was great driving the trails ourselves and the trip to the picnic at the lake was a great way to finish the day.

Jeep tour was a super bumpy ride on a trail so dense and narrow you couldn't see a thing._br/_
Canoe portion was so short it was comical. The chowder was great and the guide was very good on the trail hike.

Wonderful adventure! Perfect amount of canoeing, amazing jeep excursion. Our tour guide, Kristina, was especially wonderful, with great passion, thorough knowledge of the area, plants, animals, etc, and a natural gift for sharing her knowledge in a way that was totally engaging and informative, without a hint of patronism. Also amazing energy. She went above and beyond anyone's expectations. If this review is shared with her, please include my contact information - as a retired university professor, I'd be happy to write her a general personal recommendation.

Lot of FUN!! Great off roading and beautiful views. The canoeing was very scenic and placid!! Only complaint was that it was unseasonably warm the day we went and the a/c was not working...just blowing lost of dust and hot air but was not a deal breaker for us...we are from Miami:)

It was a wonderful tour - we canoed in a beautiful mountain lake and off-roaded on old logging roads. The guides were kind, knowledgeable and very organized, The scenery was breathtaking and I would rate the whole experience as top notch! My two kids (12 and 15) loved it and thought it was "way cool" and we would highly recommend both the company and the tour to anyone!

We booked on line before we left New Zealand. There were no hassles to hook up with our tour operator and destination. Even the bus trip to the tour depot was interesting. Warm welcome;safety procedures and away we went om a magical tour. Lots of communication between lead and backup jeep and we could communicate on our several stops scenery we had seen and would like to stop and view and take photos. The guides were down to earth, knowledgeable, fun and family orientated in their own personal lives."That is my beautiful wife just passing us." My husband and I are in the 55yr to 65yr age group and had no trouble with the 4 wheel drive mountain ascent and descent and paddling the 20 person canoe to a spectacular island, refreshment area and tropical rain forest. This tour has given us an impetus to revisit this same experience in our home country- New Zealand.

This was better than it sounds, better than I could describe and better than I expected! Matt P. was our guide he explained everything clearly, made the radio communications fun and clear as we were on the logging roads in the jeeps. I had a great time paddling our canoe across the beautiful lake followed by the warm cocoa, chowder, rolls with jam and andes mints :) then the nature walk.. it was short but to be IN those trees rather than driving past or seeing them from a distance. It was beauty beyond words. Thank you for making my Ketchikan excursion a great one!
