Full Day Tour of The Dingle Peninsula Slea Head and Inch Beach
Killarney, Ireland
The Dingle Peninsula has the most rugged Atlantic coastline in Kerry and is scattered with forts and pre-historic huts such as the Gallarus Oratory.
Much of Irish heritage is maintained in this Irish (Gaelic) speaking region including traditional music and art forms. Considered by many to have some of Europe's most spectacular scenery, the peninsula also supports both a rare and unique assortment of flora and fauna.
Slea Head is the most westerly point in Europe and standing there, looking towards America, instills a feeling of excitement and empathy with the millions of emigrants who took this route.
There are splendid views around Slea Head, especially of the Blasket Islands and the scattered rocks, all part of an exploded volcanic area.
In the storms of September 1588 four ships of the Spanish Armada were driven through the Blasket Sound. One, due to great seamanship, got into shelter, followed by a second. But a third came flying through the Sound with its sails in tatters and crashed onto the two other ships, which eventually got to back Spain.
The Great Blasket island, evacuated in the 1950's, produced a number of books in Irish - a best-seller, translated as 20 Years A Growing by Maurice O' Sullivan, and a masterpiece, The Island man by Thomas O'Crohan. In this century some 60 books, mostly in Irish, have been written in the immediate area.
This is also the countryside in which the David Lean film, Ryan's Daughter, was mainly made. The film Far and Away was also made here.
Ray was a terrific guide. He was patient, knowledgeable, and fun. The scenery was spectacular.

I loved this tour. I planned a two week trip to Ireland for my parents and me, and we truly enjoyed this excursion. The history and the stories - and the Irish pub music - were great. As with everything in this country, the people make it wonderful. The tour guides are great, but the Irish are so wonderful in general. They make it very easy to be a traveler gathering stories rather than a tourist.

took this trip on 9/3- cloudy overcast weather but the trip was well worth. Morris was the best -great stories and details on the places we visited. Highly recommend this trip!

Our driver made this trip worthwhile. We had gone on the Connemara trip the day before and the driver was so lousy that we were very apprehensive about this trip. But this driver was so so different, and made the trip so enjoyable that we returned feeling that we had learnt so much of the history of the country, while seeing so many places of interest, and had a lot of fun at the same time. The only grouse is the money making practise of the tour company that charges a hefty extra fee for getting seats in front. We have experienced other tour companies and have not faced this.

Another great tour and we were so happy that we arrived at the Peninsula before the weather fogged it in. Wonderful trip would definitely say it was one of our hightlights in Ireland.

Ireland is amazing and the trip to Dingle was perfect!

We thoroughly enjoyed our tour of the Dingle Peninsula. The commentary we received form the bus driver was great. We had ample time to enjoy the sites at each of our stops. Even got to stick my feet in the water at Inch Beach. We would highly recommend this tour.

We had a great day and a great driver for this tour of the Dingle Peninsula. Tony was funny, knowledgeable, and an amazingly good sport when he found his knowledge put to the test by a precocious adolescent who grilled him on a wide range of topics that often had nothing to do with the Dingle Peninsula. Having survived his inquisitorial interview, Tony kept up a running narrative about the places were were stopping and the places through which we passed. He told stories about the land and the landscape, the islands and the sea and everything, he promised, everything he said was true.

Excellent tour! Maurice was our guide and was knowledgeable and entertaining! There were plenty of stops for photos and our group of eight made it easy to meet others on our tour. Lunch in Dingle in a pub Maurice recommended was delicious followed by Murphy and #39;s ice cream! A wonderful time!

Great day! Your was a great amount of time and the stops were great. I wish we would and #39;ve had lunch and spent more time in Dingle however instead of the Slea head. The tour guide was lovely though and the views were spectacular. :)

Great driver/guide. Enough stops to let you take pictures and appreciate the beauty of the landscapes. I would only like to have some more time in Dingle, so I would recommend leaving at 9 or coming back at 18 currently is from 10 to 17. You get 1h in Dingle for lunch, so either you bring sandwiches with you or you won't have enough time to visit the town we wanted to enjoy also the local food, so we were left with 15 quick minutes to walk the town.

Mostly good. 2 hours in Dingle town could have been better used for more scenic sites.

Fantastic tour of incredible beauty to the Dingle peninsula. Very organized and friendly tour company.

This was a fun day with beautiful scenery. There were only eight of us in a mini-bus which helped a lot. The driver was casual, informative and funny. The weather did not completely cooperate always a factor in Ireland, but the clouds stayed high enough so that the views were not blocked.
Review by: Heidie R, June 2015
Good tour, however very frustrating that we waited around for 1/2 hour after we were supposed to leave to fill the small bus and therefore our time in DIngle was cut short. Also- tour said no pickups, yet we went around picking up people as well. Not very efficient!!!

The weather was bad the day we went and we couldn't see much because of the fog. The shops on this tour had some excellent deals. It would be nice if the tour company had an alternate tour in case of bad weather.

A most enjoyable day. The driver Ray kept us entertained with his humour and also his knowledge of the area. I would heartily recommend it.
Review by: Lu B, July 2014
We didn't get really lucky with the weather conditions. It started out well enough, but soon it became really foggy, so we didn't really get to appreciate the landscape as we expected (we never saw the Blasket Islands, for example). Even so, Ray, our tour guide and driver, did his absolute best so that we could make the most of the trip (even showing us pictures so that we could kind of "imagine" the islands in front of us behind the fog). We did a few 15-minute stops (like at Inch beach), then at Dingle for lunch, and then Ray decided to get off-route and take us to a lake viewpoint for some landscape views (I don't remember the name of the place, unfortunately). I'd like to take the tour again during a sunny day to be able to appreciate the real charm of the land (even if what we experienced was real irish weather, after all).

Our tour guy Ray was wonderful. He was informative, friendly, and funny. We loved his stories and jokes. The scenery was beautiful and he let us stop at several places and take pictures. We would highly recommend this tour.

it was a driving tour, which was interesting, but considering my party had our own car, i felt we could have done the same thing, the driver/guide did have interesting stories, but i was expecting more than beautiful vistas and anecdotes.

Very good guide. It was nice for my sister and I to visit Dingle from a tour perspective, although I'd not been to Gallarus before. The guide gave us some good facts, that were news to me. Would recommend.

Great tour. Thoroughly enjoyed the day.

Since the bus driver had to narrate the tour,as well as drive the bus, we found that very little information was given about what we were seeing. We had a wasted 2 hr lunch and arrived back to Dublin earlier than were were given to believe.

Not as good as Ring of Kerry, did not do the lunch option as was let down the day before, took a sandwich and ate it by the sea.

If you've been to other scenic coastal areas, you've seen as good or better. Nothing mystical or magical on the tour. Slea Head was halfway decent but in no way worth the time. We felt like the goal of the tour operator was to get us to the determined destinations as quickly as possible with no regard to comfort, education or promotion of a fun atmosphere. Our driver was nice enough but was just a driver. By far the least enjoyable of our three tours in Ireland.
