This 8-hour city tour of Kochi (Cochin) introduces you to some of its most popular attractions. Once known as the 'Queen of the Arabian Sea,' Kochi is a melting pot of many cultures, and you can still see the splendors of these cultures at sights such as the Dutch Palace (Mattancherry Palace), Jew Street, Paradesi Synagogue, Santa Cruz Basilica, Church of St. Francis, the Chinese fishing nets, the Maritime Museum, and the Hill Palace of Tripunithura. Hotel transfers are included from city hotels. Please note, any entrance fees are at your own expense.
Your driver picks you up at your hotel in Kochi in the morning for the transfer to the Mattancherry side of the old city.
Visit Dutch Palace, also known as Mattancherry Palace or Portuguese Palace (closed on Fridays), a well-preserved museum where you can see murals of Hindu temple art, portraits, and artifacts of the rajas of Kochi. From here, stroll along Jew Street to reach Paradesi Synagogue, noting that the buildings may seem worn out but the street keeps remnants of its glorious past thanks to various spice shops and curio souks. Tthe oldest active synagogue in this part of the world, Paradesi Synagogue (closed on Fridays and Saturdays) opened in 1568; its interior features brass columns, intricate teak woodwork, Belgian crystal chandeliers, Torah crowns made of gold and gems, and Chinese porcelain floors.
Next you'll be transferred to the Fort Kochi area. Visit Santa Cruz Basilica, which dates back to 1505, and stop by the Church of St. Francis, the oldest European church in India. Then head to the water to see the Chinese fishing nets, which are fixed to land by mechanical structures that hold out the large nets, followed by a visit to the Maritime Museum (closed on Mondays and public holidays) and the Hill Palace of Tripunithura (closed on Mondays), a museum that houses historical Kerala artifacts.
