Lake Tahoe's Emerald Bay Cruise on M.S. Dixie II

Lake Tahoe, United States of America

Take a 2-hour sightseeing cruise on the M.S. Dixie II around magnificent Lake Tahoe to savor the wonders of this picturesque area. Discover breathtaking views of the Sierra Nevada Mountains, Emerald Bay, charming Fannette Island and Vikingsholm Castle.

This two-hour narrated Emerald Bay Sightseeing Cruise offers non-stop photo opportunities that will delight everyone in your family or group. As you cruise to, through and back from Emerald Bay, you will learn how it was formed and some of its fascinating history. Hear tales of Fenette Island (nicknamed "little rock island") within the bay, as well as the Vikingsholm Castle, the stone mansion on its shores.

You will even get a look below Lake Tahoe's surface, with a special video presentation of "Sunken Treasures of Lake Tahoe". This is a state-of-the-art video presentation showing what lies deep beneath the brilliant blue of Lake Tahoe's surface. Travel 500 feet below the waters of Glenbrook Bay to tour the Steamer Tahoe, the majestic vessel that cruised Lake Tahoe for 50 years before being sunk by her owners.

See underwater canyons and rocky bluffs that until now have never been seen by human eyes. Cruise through recently discovered ancient forests of petrified trees; forests that forced scientists to rethink theories of the lake's size and evolution. Roam the bottom of Emerald Bay and explore newly discovered sea mounds that are unlike any previously known underwater formation at Lake Tahoe.

Optional buffet lunch is available on the morning cruise during summer, which consists of a deli meats, cheeses, salads, soups, bread, chilli, cookies, soda, tea and water. Full bar service is also available (additional cost) for onboard M.S. Dixie II during the round-trip excursion from historic Zephyr Cove to Emerald Bay.

I believe this is the only boat tour on the lake. It was educational, and you could see the entire lake as we crossed it. A beautiful place. The boat was clean, the food and drinks were good as well.

The trip was wonderful The water was a little rough due to the weather and the trip back was smoother. Emerald Bay was lovely and the narration was great and so was the music. On the way back we were fortunate to see a beautiful rainbow on the south shore which seemed to be very vivid and then would fade away and come back again. It was my second time on there and the whole experience was lovely. My friend from Chicago and I I live in Sacramento thoroughly enjoyed it despite the weather.

Was a beautiful day and enjoyed hearing the history of Lake Tahoe and Emerald Bay. Lunch was offered but we did not eat on the cruise so cannot comment on the food. It was relaxing and lasted about two hours. We would recommend this to anyone who wanted to see the lake by cruising on it.

The tour was ok and the scenery beautiful. I think we would have been better just to drive to Emerald Bay. The narration appears to be recorded. Not sorry that we did it but would not go again.

Great cruise around the lake. Our only complaint is that there were many unattended small children running wild on boat decks. Very unsafe behavior and as a result we were unable to hear narration. We should have gone midweek instead of weekend.... that was our mistake.

A great thing to do if you are not physically fit enough for more active ways of getting to Emerald Bay. Would recommend driving to the bay and taking advantage of walks and kayaks

Enjoyed Emerald Bay itself but would have enjoyed opportunity to spend time on land.

The cruise was nice if you were outside on the deck or on the roof. It was a warm day, so inside was uncomfortable. Packed like sardines inside. I recommend you arrive early in order to acquire a good place to sit or stand. Overall, it was a lovely cruise if you had a good spot.

I enjoyed this tour with my 19 year-old son who uses a power wheelchair. Due to accessibility issues, we stayed on the first level of the boat, but had a great time. The lake is gorgeous, and the tour was informative. There is a wheelchair-accessible head (restroom) on the first level of the boat.

We loved everything about the boat trip. Perfect weather, right amount of tour guide, great bartenders -- and scenery that is truly unbelievable. The only things I would do to improve is to lower drink costs 10 a little steep -- and have a golf cart or something on hand for people with disabilities. A poor woman on crutches had to walk that entire gangplank and we worried she wouldn't make it!

The tour itself is awesome and the boat a lot of fun but it was overcrowded in my opinion making it hard to get near an outside rail to take pictures. Despite that, if you have never taken this or a similar tour of Lake Tahoe you are missing out. The one thing that sticks out in my mind is the inability to hear the canned tour guide talk about the lake. You simply cannot hear because of the constant chatter of other passengers. Don't know how the operators could fix that. The restrooms on board were clean and in good working order. The staff very efficient and hard working. You can also purchase small gifts, food and refreshments on board.

A great way to spend a few hours on the lake. Beautiful scenery, interesting local knowledge, relaxing as all get out. Only drawback is that it's just a little too long for the content.

The boat ride is awesome! I would recommend it. Bring sunblock, and it is a long ride, plan for three hours total for this excursion. The views are amazing and you can't get those views any other way.we even saw a waterfall!

This tour was beautiful and nice to experience. Our tour was at 11am, We sat in the 3rd deck on the side view and I honestly think those were the best seats since you could see the back, side and front view of Tahoe.

The Bay is fantastic!!! I got confused about the location and had a hard time for parking. Boat was full and I wish I had rented a small one and had stayed at the Bay for a swimming time. Other than that, it was amazing.

What a wonderful experience to see the beauty of nature so close up. The tour was just the right amount of time to enjoy the magic of Lake Tahoe. The color of the water is unbelievable. No picture can capture how really beautiful it is.

Review by:   mrshuang,    September 2016 Review: 2 star rating: It was OK, but could have been better
Overpriced and boring. The first few minutes of the trip were enjoyable, with breathtaking views, but it just was too long 2 hours and not worth the 55 ticket price. Might be good for individuals who can't walk very much, but otherwise, you're better off just parking at the top of Vikingsholm, and walking the 1-mile hike down to the castle and the water. Same views but you're not stuck on a crowded boat for 2 hours and you'll have more money in your pocket at the end. Disappointing.

It is worth doing, but be aware that the boat is extremely crowded. The boat officially holds 500 passengers and they pack that many on board. Unless you are there way early to line up you will not get a deck seat and you will be stuck inside where it is hard to see the picturesque beauty of the lake. They apparently used to have two boats, but one was in a fire. Maybe with two boats running, it would have been less crowded. I don't know if I would pay the price again since I wasn't able to get an outside deck spot, and we were there 45 minutes early!!! It wasn't early enough. Plan to be there at least an hour early to line up if you want a chance at the outside seating.

The trip appeared to be wonderful, the only hitch was that the wheelchair that my mother was brought on board with was given away. She was told that she would have to wait until everyone was off the boat before the 2 wheelchairs could be taken up and unloaded before they could come back and get her. For a boat with over 200 people they only have 2 wheelchairs. WE WILL NOT RETURN!_br/_ She is 81 years old and not in good condition. A WASTE OF MONEY!
