3-Volcanoes Guided Walking Tour from Lanzarote

Lanzarote, Spain

This walk is an easy alternative for those who want to learn about volcanology and admire the moonscape of the Natural Park of Volcanoes from close without having to do a big physical effort. This tour takes you to three completely different young volcanoes that belong to the Timanfaya eruption series. There is a Landrover transfer from one volcano to the other. Easy, educational and picture perfect scenery.

This is probably the ultimate volcano experience, offering the thrill of walking up, around and into three spectacular volcanoes and to be as close to the protected National Park of Timanfaya on foot as possible. The first stage of the excursion is to the edge of the crater La Rilla, one of Lanzarote’s most impressive examples of volcanic activity. The group will climb steadily to the edge of the crater where during a rest for refreshments, the guide will explain the construction of this beautiful volcano and the life that inhabits it.

The second part of the excursion is around the base of Montaña Colorada, one of the last volcanoes to erupt during the activity of 1730 – 1736. The stunning cinder cone shines a beautiful red color which is particularly intense for a volcano of this type. This easy walk takes the group around the base of the volcano making stops en route where the guide will explain points of natural or geological interest. The walk also offers the group the opportunity to see the world’s largest volcanic bomb, measuring some 4m x 5m– a great photo opportunity.

The final destination is to Volcán del Cuervo (volcano of the raven). Accessed via a short walk from the drop off point, this visit allows the group right into the heart of a huge crater. Dramatic lava formations can be seen and the crater is also home to rare nesting birds, Berbery Falcons, which can be seen on some occasions. The total walk covers around 6km and is relatively easy. However walking shoes or trainers are recommended as in some places the terrain is uneven.

Excellent walking trip with really interesting information from Carmen the guide. Three very different volcanos, in an amazing landscape. Would thoroughly recommend this trip.

For all those with a geological disposition and a want for some history of the Island then this is a fantastic tour. We were picked up promptly from the hotel and taken to the meeting point. There we met our guide Adolfo and what a guide. Full of knowledge with a layman's way of putting over to you._br/_ There is a lot of walking on this tour having said that it is done at a pace that both my wife and I had no ill effects the following day._br/_ The staff at Viator really do their homework on the tours and I cant rate this highly enough.

A brilliant trip and very informative. The guide Adolfo certainly knew his stuff when it came to talking about volcanoes. The first volcano I have to warn you is quite a steep climb, so don't turn up in high heels! Boots or trainers are a must. The three volcanoes were all very_br/_ different. Luckily the weather was just right which made the walk even better. Highly recommended.

Fabulous. Bit of a scramble up the first volcano but not beyond me or my 67 your old husband. And so amazing when we reached the top - they even taught my geographer son something. Food was all local, carefully labelled to everyone's food needs and ethically packed. Times were stuck to and it was well organised and safe. The two members of staff were amazing and we are luck enough to get two geologists fro the price of one, as one of the customers was a geology professor.

More than five stars. The weather was not good and we had hail storms and strong gusts of wind, as well as some brilliant sun shine. We were assured that this was not normal. In spite of this our guides ensured we had the tour we booked and we learned so much about volcanoes that it helps understand the genesis of Lanzarote. Good value.

Promptly picked up at the agreed time and place, greeted by our very knowledgeable guide, Adolfo. Had a great trip, plenty of walking, learned lots about volcanoes, something that has always fascinated me, and Adolfo made it very interesting. Would definitely recommend this trip.

If, like me, you don't normally like guided tours, this one is for you! A small minibus, a friendly local guide hello Alfredo and an unhurried wander around Volcano Natural Park in a small group awaits you. The three volcanoes we covered displayed a good variety of volcanic features walking the crater rim for one, and inside another and landscapes and the knowledge shared is informative If not a little repetitive. It's worth noting that you do not walk inside Timanfaya National Park as the listing ambiguously walk around leads to assume and this is something that's only made explicit at the top of the tour. I'd like to see this clarified in the listing, but given that walking inside Timanfaya isn't possible, this really is the best way to get onto the adjacent land if taking snap shots from a coach is your idea of hell! And make sure you go to the loo at the visor centre before the walk begins! It's your last chance. A great day!

Would highly recommend this trip. Wasn't as much walking as we thought as they drive you between the 3 volcanoes and you then walk up to them. Our guide was extremely knowledgeable and we also visited the Timanfaya visitor centre which is really interesting. Lunch was also very good.

Adolfo was a very good and informative guide. It was a fun day and a great way to see the area. The walking was well paced but it was a very windy day and with the ground being very soft underfoot it was a little tricky at times. But worth it for the view when you make it to destination.

Everything was very well organised and we were picked up from a location further north without any problems. One of us was vegan and there was a vegan snack prepared. The guide, Alena, was amazing. Helpful, open, shared tons of knowledge with us. Breathtaking views and scenery. Great trip!

This was a great tour _br/_ Picked up promptly from where we were staying- and dropped back_br/_ Alfonso and Sara were great guides and were passionate about the geology / volcanology and conservation of Lanzorote._br/_ Don't expect too much from the eruption simulation at the visitor centre - but this was not down to our guides._br/_ Their explanations on the other exhibits at the information centre were very interesting._br/_ It was particularly windy the day we went but suggest you bring a fleece to wear.

This was a great trip with lots of information given throughout and wonderful hosts. Alena didn't stop smiling and made sure that I had my own lunch made of lovely fresh salad as I am wheat intolerant .We were supplied with bottles of water and fruit too and everyone else in the group had a filled baguette and fruit._br/_ The only thing that I wasn't aware of was the ash which covers everywhere you walk which is like walking on very deep loose gravel. Unfortunately although my shoes were very comfortable they had open parts which let in the gravel and was a complete pain. Make sure that you have proper walking boots or shoes without gaps or holes._br/_ We were lucky enough to see a hawk in the distant upper levels of the 3rd and greatest volcano._br/_ Not a difficult walk if you are reasonably fit and healthy so do go and enjoy!

Really great experience with a very knowledgeable guide. Not to be attempted by the faint hearted though - it's hard work walking on the volcanic 'grit' with the sun beating down!

This was an excellent tour which fully lived up to expectations. Most of it was easy walking on the flat, and the time allocated for the tour allowed a reasonably gentle pace. Lots of great sights, lots of info - Elena the guide was very knowledgeable - highly recommended

great day, guide was very well informedabout the island, plants, wildlife and volcanoes. The volcanoes visited were great and ones we would not have seen on our own and it was excellent to be guided. This was one of our best days of the holiday and we would recommend to anyone, well worth the money.

Miguel was a great tour guide. He knew so much about volcanoes and classification of the different types of volcanic rocks. It was a unique and different experience being able to see volcanoes from three different perspectives. We enjoyed out lunch in the park and the surprises of our close encounters with volcanoes.

Tour was fabulous and exceeded our expectations. Extremely friendly and knowledgeable guide. A fascinating 'close-up and personal' volcanic experience which we would highly recommend. The day we walked the weather and views were amazing and we got the added bonus of viewing a pair of falcons.
