Bird Watching Guided Half-Day Tour from Lanzarote

Lanzarote, Spain

Embark on a half-day bird watching tour and witness some of the local species. Embark on a 4x4 safari trough the desert with an experienced guide. This excursion will take you to see some special birds but also breathtaking landscapes. Rental of binoculars and telescope are included.

For birders, Lanzarote can offer if not quantities, than definitely some very interesting species.

Equipped with a reliable Landrover, several pairs of binoculars and a telescope, you'll then enter the desert of Soo. This is home to the houbara bustard, cream colored courser and stone curlew to name the big 3. Journeying towards the heart of the desert and you'll hopefully encounter many surprises on the way, including lesser short-toed larks, trumpeter finches, hoopoes and occasionally a kestrel or the spectacular Egyptian vulture. It is common to meet goat herds in Soo with the loyal company of numerous cattle egrets.

The trip will be a pleasant experience even for non birding companions, who may admire the different exotic landscapes and enjoy the 4x4 ride.

Excellent value with an experienced guide. With the type of terrain it is extremely difficult to spot the birds and there is no doubt the guides ability makes it possible. Saw loads of bustard, including one displaying, various other smaller birds. Interesting, informative and highly recommended.

This was an excellent tour and highly recommended. You do not have to be a fanatic bird watcher to go. The guide was amazing and knew just where to go to find the birds. His knowledge was excellent and he made the trip very enjoyable and did not rush to finish the tour. He answered all questions and was very friendly and helpful. We cannot recommend this trip highly enough.

What a fantastic trip, our guide Carmen was very knowledgeable and was very determined to find every species that she could. The highlight of our trip was seeing the beautiful Hoopoe's which didn't disappoint! We got lots of chances to take some stunning photos, the whole trip was very enjoyable from start to finish. Also Carmen went above and beyond when after returning to our accommodation we realised one of our group had left their camera in the jeep, after contacting Carmen she didn't hesitate to try and find it, which she did, then offered to meet us early the following morning at our accommodation as we were flying home that morning so a big big thank you _br/_ We wouldn't hesitate to do another trip and can't wait to return to this beautiful island, so until next time.....

This was a great trip, Carmen was so informative and really knows her stuff! She was knowledgable about the whole of Lanzarote and we learned such a lot from her, even though this was our fifth visit to the island she had much to tell us in general and it was so nice to speak with her. We saw most of the birds on our list but the bird watching game is that they may not always be co-operative! Carmen knew the best places to find them and of course knows the area well, excellent guide! We were provided with binoculars which was great, but my only moan was that mine had obviously been handled previously by a smoker and were really smelly and made my _br/_ eyes sting with the smell of cigarette smoke : even wiping them down with a lemon hand wipe did not take it away.

I'm so glad I booked this trip. Carmen picked me up from my hotel and we picked up 2 others. Carmen was so knowledgable about the island, giving me some tips of where to take my wife and boys during the rest of our stay. As for the birds...great. It was a little windy which was always going to make things a little difficult. Still we had great views of the 2 birds I really wanted to see. Houbara Bustard and Cream-coloured Courser. Seeing multiple birds. Stone Curlew great view, Barbary Partridge distant but still a first, Hoopoe, Cattle Egret, Linnet, Southern Grey Shrike, Berthelot's Pipit, Lesser Short-toed Lark.... I'm a keen wildlife photographer, so took my camera with 100-400mm. I didn't expect to get any decent images, more just record shots, as it isn't a photography trip....but was surprised to get a few really good images. _br/_ This trip is certainly not just for keen birders, one of the women in the 4x4 just fancied a trip out and she loved it. We all had a really good trip with plenty of laughs, with a stop off in a local centre for freshly made Croquettes and a brew._br/_ Hopefully we'll return to Lanzarote next year and this time I'll book a couple of trips out with Carmen and the team.

We had a great Bird Watching half day on this tour._br/_ The Land Rover was well driven and the guides knowledge of the desert terrain and the location of the birds_br/_ was excellent. The vehicle was pleasantly cool in the heat and quite comfortable ._br/_ The viewing of the birds was difficult as they were well camouflaged on the ground, and the spotter and driver_br/_ made the task much easier. They were even able to follow the birds which did not seem to worry about the vehicle._br/_ This was an excellent trip and I hope to attach some photos of some of the 26 varieties seen, not for the quality of the photos,_br/_ taken with a compact Panasonic Lumix TZ60, but to show the camouflage of the birds.

We had a hotel pick up , on time with Sarah who took us to meet our guide Adolfo, with one other client. Adolfo started with a brief explanation and pictures of what we may see on our 4 to 5 hour trip, which would be taken in to the Soo Dessert The four wheel drive vehicle was adequate for four people, I would not have liked three passengers in the back, as there was only room for the two of us. We had two target species, Cream Coloured Courser and Houbara Bustard, and any other birds were a bonus. We knew there were limited birds in the area we were covering. Our first bird was a Lesser Short Toed Lark and moving on we had our first target bird the Houbara Bustard seeing about 6 birds in total, although distant views, we were still pleased. Moving on we saw in total 36 Cream Coloured Courser all at very close views. We had a coffee and comfort stop in the quaint village of Soo, and moving on found Stone Curlew, and once we spotted 1 we saw at least 6 beautiful birds. We had Southern grey shrike, Raven, numerous Kestrel, Berthelots Pipit and finishing of with Trumpeter Finch, Seeing in total 13 species. We would recommend this trip as it was an area you could not drive around yourself, as it was well of road, and you needed to know where to go. We returned to our hotel happy bird watchers.

Excellent day - we are not experienced birdwatchers, just interested in wildlife etc. Carmen knew the places where we would be most likely to see even the shyest birds - and we did! We only missed the falcons, and that was due to the cloud and mist on the cliffs. We would highly recommend this day out.

Really enjoyable trip with knowledgeable and accommodating guide. We didn't see huge numbers of birds, but was still interesting. A chance to see parts of Lanzarote not covered by the usual tours.
