Doctor Who Tour of London

London, United Kingdom

If you’re a fan of the BBC science fiction television series 'Doctor Who', you’ll love this 3-hour private tour of sites filmed on location throughout London. Cruising around the city in an iconic black taxi you’ll visit well-known spots (and some hidden gems) from the films and TV series aired since 1963. On this family-friendly tour, your witty and informative guide will share stories about the Daleks and numerous other archenemies that roamed the streets, with the Doctor in hot pursuit!

After pickup from your hotel, your knowledgeable and friendly local guide will take you by private taxi through central London to see numerous on-site locations where Doctor Who was filmed during the past 50 years. While driving to each site, your guide will fill you in on a bit of London history and stop for photographs at major landmarks. You’ll have multiple stops to purchase food (own expense) along the way.

See where famous scenes with the Time Lord were shot during the filming of “The Chase,” “Dalek Invasion of Earth” and more. Stand on the bridge where the Daleks started their invasion of London, get your picture taken on the spot where Rose and the Doctor stood by the London Eye, and stand outside the building that became 10 Downing Street.

During your private tour, learn fun facts from your guide via trivia questions, and listen to fascinating and eerie science fiction tales of episodes involving Cybermen, Headless Monks, The Silence, River Song and Weeping Angels. Hear anecdotes about those who have played the doctors (and their assistants), from William Hartnell in 1963 to present-day Matt Smith.

Before your private tour ends with drop-off at your London hotel, be sure to get your photograph taken next to the only remaining British police box in London. You’ll notice an uncanny resemblance to the Doctor's time-traveling spacecraft – the TARDIS!

We really enjoyed this tour. Besides visiting the Doctor Who sites, the driver also included up close visits to some areas that we would never have seen as closely without this tour. We visited the Globe theater and saw some gorgeous views of landmarks in London. We also visited the last working police box in London and the BBC headquarters. The driver was very personable and polite.

The tour included pointing out some of the main Doctor Who filming locations, photographs with the last remaining police box outside in London, the Tardis at the BBC, and a dalek at the BBC. Some of the best parts of the tour had nothing to do with Doctor Who including a walk through a modern and actively being worked on spray painted subway, a walk on the shore of the Thames, photos on the Millenium bridge, a trip to an armour/weapons exhibit and a recommendation to go to the war museum.

This was a very good Doctor Who Tour with a lot of general London info thrown in as well. I had thought there was going to be more of a Classic Who bend, but rather it ended up being completely Modern Who which started out a bit disappointing, but the Tour Guide Gary I believe ended up making it a very enjoyable 3 hours.

This was absolutely awesome and our guide was fabulous. Tour went for over 3 hours and it was great to be able to travel around via a London blackcab with the ability to stop and get out whenever we wanted to, instead of being locked into a group tour. I would highly recommend this to any Doctor Who fan and it is definitely value for money. Thank you so much for a wonderful experience.

Amazing Tour! Steve was an awesome tour guide! Showed my husband the Dr. Who fan in our group all of the Dr. Who sites, plus showed us some of London and took family photos for us. Even made our daughters feel special. Was a great day spent as a family.

This was a great tour. We stopped at a number of locations from Doctor Who and from Sherlock as well. Jerry was a great guide. Knowledgeable and funny.

Stephen, our driver was simply amazing. He took us to all of the sites we wanted to see in London, especially the ones that Doctor Who fans would expect to see. We were able to pack more into one day with this tour than we ever possibly could with a conventional bus tour. Stephen knew all of the best places to take pictures, and we ended up with memories we will always cherish. He is well steeped in knowledge about the show and our favorite Doctors. The tour will cost you less if you have more people, but for the two of us it was well worth it!

To be honest, our tour was terrible. It was sold as a Dr. Who tour of London. We had already taken a tour of the city on the Hop on Hop Off Bus. So we were looking for this to be a special event for my son who loves Dr. Who. Our driver, Steve, seemed to know VERY LITTLE about Dr. Who. All he did was point out some spots where it had been filmed. Not only that but when I was resigned to the tour just being about spots in London to take pictures, I tried asking tourist questions about London which he seemed incapable of answer. Big bummer considering it was very expensive!!!

Kind of silly, but lots of fun! Our tour guide, Richard, was very knowledgable and kept us entertained. Would recommend for families that Who together! And it was a great way to peek at many areas of London on our first day there!

Our family loved this tour! The guide was extremely knowledgeable and shared facts about Dr. Who that we did not know. I would highly recommend this tour.

Guide was excellent, show locations allow you to see places you normally would not see as a regular tourist. You also of course pass many London sights along the way. They will end your tour any place you want to be dropped off at. We went to the British Museum afterwards, so he dropped us off there. It was great not having to go back to hotel and out again.

By far my favorite tour during my trip. Steve, our guide, was extremely sweet and filled us with so much history and knowledge of the city as he showed us around.

We scheduled this tour for our 17 year old daughter while visiting London. Gerry was wonderful! He knew everything! She was so happy to see the tardis and the dales. He showed us all around London and we were very impressed with all of the London history and trivia he explained to us as well. Wonderful morning adventure! Thanks so much Gerry- you're the best!!!

Our guide, Richard, was fantastic. It was our first day of a 10 day trip and was a fantastic way to be oriented to the city through the lens of a show my boys love. We took an early morning Saturday tour and avoided lots of traffc. In addition to Dr. Who sites, we also tacked on a few Sherlock-related stops. Highly recommended if you have teenage boys who require a high bar to be impressed.

This was a 21st present for my Dr Who addicted son. Gerry our guide could match my son for knowledge about characters, storylines, quotes and any sort of Who trivia. Gerry brought London to life with his knowledge of historical events pertaining to the areas we were passing through whilst going beween the different Dr Who locations. It's not a cheap day out but our experience was well worth the money and nothing was too much trouble for our guide, he really added to our enjoyment of the day.

The tour was exceptional. The driver was knowledgeable, personal and made the tour quite interesting. My granddaughter is a Dr. Who fan and the guide led her to a journey that she will never forget. I highly recommend this tour company when in London.

Review by:   Jean M,    July 2014 Review: 2 star rating: It was OK, but could have been better
Five adults was too many for the car, so we were cramped and uncomfortable for three hours. With the summer heat, it was sweltering in the car with the windows up, but we couldn't hear the tour guide with them down. Not one of the four Doctor Who fans in our group came away with anything memorable from the tour, and the one non fan didn't see anything that would create interest in the show. For the price of five tickets it was definitely not worth it. The best part of the tour was the little bit of straight-up London background and insight the guide provided. Three hours of that would have been great; three hours of driving all over London in a cramped hot car to see not much of anything was not so great.

Good tour but recommend that tour guide who was the taxi driver wear a microphone as it was sometimes difficult to hear the commentary over the traffic noise. When driver lets people out of the taxi it would be nice if he would accompany them so that he could take photos. There were only two of us so we couldn't get photos of both us unless we found some friendly passerby._br/_ It does seem that this is a fairly new tour and still needs some work. Because of this, I felt that the price paid was too high._br/_ I would like to remain anonymous and supply this in the spirit of improving the tour. I do not need it published.

If you've just spent seven hours in a flying tube with two teens you need to keep up so you don't waste an entire day of vacation, the private Dr. Who Tour of London is your ticket. The tour company is an impressive outfit and really know how to "wow" you. The black cab had the traditional vibe of an old school UK cab but with ac, four comfortable seats, and an intercom system. Jerry, our driver and guide was exceptional. His energy and enthusiasm engaged us the entire time. He brought us a box of Jammie Dodgers to share as he gave us the scoop on the show and introduced my family to this amazing city. That afternoon my daughters Instagram accounts where chock full of pictures of our family with the only remaining police box in London, the TARDIS, and an actual Dalek. The girls even had a little time to shop during the tour. At the end, we were dropped off at a pub near our hotel for dinner. Jerry and this tour really made our first day in the UK a delight. We enjoyed it so much we booked the London of Shakespeare, Beatles, Bond, and Sherlock tour for our last day in the UK.

Went to London with my wife and two sons who are in their early twenties. We enjoyed the time with one guide to ourselves. He was humorous and knowledgable about Dr. Who, related shows and also knows a wealth of English history. Very relaxed and enjoyable. Took us to out of the way areas and stopped for other sites too which we would never have seen on a regular tour. Example, the place where Ben Franklin lived while in England as well as the homes of other famous persons. Can you find the replica of Lord Nelson's nose on the gate where the royal calvary pass? They all touch it for good luck. If you are a Dr. Who fan I would strongly suggest you consider this tour. Oh, and he picks you up at your hotel. Nice.

Absolutely fantastic!! Our driver was amazing. He not only showed us locations where Doctor Who was filmed, but he took us all around London and gave us history about those locations--Hyde Park, The BBC, Whitehall Palace, St. James Palace. Harrods, Wamley's,--and even gave us info as to where to eat and the history behind certain coffee shops. I wish I could remember our driver's name--he is a gem and we absolutely loved this tour. We also had our picture taken with a Tardis and a Dalek!

My husband and I traveled to London for the 50th Anniversary of Doctor Who. One of the absolute highlights of the trip was the Doctor Who Tour. Richard Liddle, who may very well be the best tour guide in the city, met us at the front door of our hotel, precisely on time, with his comfortable and spacious black taxi. Off we were then, first to a location that stands in for 10 Downing Street on many films and TV shows, including Doctor Who. A film crew was there this day, although they wouldn't disclose the name of the movie (maybe the next Bond film). Next stop was Trafalgar Square, then on to the Victoria Embankment, where Rose and the Doctor found the Nestene transmitter, aka the London Eye. We walked around Parliament Square and then drove to the last remaining police box in London at Earl's Court. I thought there would be a crowd here, since it was the actual 50th anniversary, but there were only a pair of fellow nerds from Eastern Europe. We took pictures of each other. Next stop was Kensington Gardens and the Albert Memorial, then on to the BBC. After going through security, we had an opportunity to have a photo op with the official Tardis. Since Mr. Liddle knew I was also a Sherlock Holmes fan, he took us to Wimpole Street, where Conan Doyle lived and wrote in 1891.

We went on the tour, and my Daughter is a huge fan. Our driver Jerry was fantastic, and not only showed us the Dr Who sites but also some historical sites in London. Jerry was fun and has lots of knowledge of Dr. Who as well as London. If you go on this tour I certainly would request Jerry as your guide. Thanks so much!

Excellent. The driver was extremely knowledgable about dr who and London. There were two dr who fans and two less so on the tour and all four of us enjoyed learning about London from such a friendly interesting guide. Highly recommend it.

We all (parents, 2 teenagers) enjoyed the tour. It was fun to see the different Dr. Who sites. The Taxi minibus was quite comfortable, even though the rear facing seats tended to cause motion sickness. We had the driver take us to the Dr. Who shop and museum at the end and that was a great final stop. The reason why I didn't give it 5 stars is the cost.
