Interlaken and Grindelwald Day Trip from Lucerne

Lucerne, Switzerland

Explore some of Switzerland's most magnificent Alpine regions on a day trip from Lucerne to Grindelwald in the Bernese Oberland. Along the way you'll visit the lovely town of Interlaken and have the option of taking a cable car to the sunny terrace of Mt. First.

This guided coach tour takes you on a scenic drive to Interlaken, at the foot of the snow-covered Alps of the Bernese Oberland. After free time to spend at your leisure in Interlaken, you'll journey to the well-known holiday resort of Grindelwald, nicknamed the "Glacier Village". You will have time to explore the resort on your own.

An optional cable car ride (operates late May to late October only) to the sunny terrace of Mt. First at 7,113 feet (2,168 meters) is highly recommended for a breathtaking panorama of the Bernese Alps.

In the late afternoon you'll meet your coach and guide to make the return journey to Lucerne.

Great tour!. Best way to go to the top of the Europe. Peter is very funny and caring. Definitely recommended.

The tour guide was rude, pushy, and treated everyone very rude. Me and my wife enjoyed it because we selected a different tour than most of the group and were alone most of the day to wandering Grindelwald and Interlaken, i couldnt imagine spend the entire day with the guide!! Great places, bad guide.

We only spent about 35 minutes in Interlaken and 5hrs in Grindelwald. Wish it had been split at least 2hrs and 3hrs. 5hrs was too long to spend on your own in a strange place without a tour guide. I think this tour should be changed to include the midway trip to Jungfraujoch and not leave people for 5hrs in a small town. We were done touring in about 90mins. All in all it was a great experience and the bus guide was very warm and pleasant.

The pickup was very punctual and our guide Barbara was clear and concise i her instructions and offered the Jungfrau upgrade to us on the bus which we declined as we had bee to Jungfrau before. The weather was bitterly cold that day bu we were just able to walk the 2 hours at Interlaken and met up with the drive Emile punctually. We found out that the group going to Jungfrau could not make the journey as the winds were way too high and the entire group proceeded to Grindelwald where due to the low season, many of the shops were still shut. The minus degree cold and snow meant we hid out in the warm restaurants waiting for the pick up. I am of the opinion that it was just bad weather and Barbara and Emile did their best despite the weather challenges placed before them. I would recommend this trip if weather was more forgiving and less harsh but do bear in mind that this is more a transfer to attractions with little guided component which was what i wanted and expected and not to be expected to be run as a full guided tour.

Tour guide did not do much except to bring us to the destination. The guide could have done better by explaining more stuff about the city, and to give some tips/guidance on what we could do in Grindelwald. It was purely just organizing transport, not really a "tour".

This was a lovely tour, I didn't do the option to go to the Jungfrau but the recommended cable car ride in Grindelwald was absolutely stunning. Just gorgeous. A wander around Interlaken was also lovely and the additional free time in Grindelwald allowed good exploring. The scenery and countryside is also stunning. I highly recommend this trip.

By far the worst trip of our European adventure. We've used Viator before and we've enjoyed their selection in tour companies however this was a big mistake. We were picked up next to McDonald's in Lucerne only to realise that the bus was completely full of passengers picked up from Zurich. Passengers who were in groups choosing to sit in individual seats rather than together. We were informed by the 'tour guide' we needed to make some decisions around our trip. We were taken aback by how dismissive the tour guide was around us having to figure out our own itinerary. Fundamentally, we were dropped off in Interlaken for 1.5 hours - no local tour or itinerary. We strolled around a town - which to be fair in lovely, but was underwhelming for the experience. As we had previously organised with the bus driver we then were picked up by the driver and dropped off at Grindelwald for 4.5 hours. Again, extremely underwhelming. The town was dead and we were there on a Saturday. We literally had to sit in a coffee shot for over 2 hours. No tour guide in Grindelwald. My advise, do not book this tour. The reviews you read here are not for the interlaken and grindelwald tour, you're reading reviews about going up to the mountain which is an extra 135 swiss franc. What we got? An over priced and somewhat glorified bus trip with a tour guide telling passengers when to take pictures. Bus driver was lovely though the tour guide was polarising and you could see this on the faces of the passengers. Was it worth it? No. Save some money and the headache of trying to understand the tour guide and book a train to Interlaken and Grindelwald. Little did we know that there's also another train that will take you to the top of the mountain from Grindelwald and cable cars post November.

Unless you do the tour to the mountain for an additional 200 Plus per person, it is not the right fit. The bus stays in Interlaken for about 1.5 hrs, then brings you to Grindelwald while the others are touring the mountain top. You are left there to spend 6 hrs on your own. If I had know this in advance, I would have done more research about Grindelwald to find the right places to see. The town is absolutely gorgeous.

This trip should be called the Grindelwald day trip. We were very disappointed in that the stop in Interlaken is basically a toilet stop of 25 minutes which isn't even enough time to walk to the lake to take photos then 4 hours is spent in Grindelwald which although a very pretty town it is quite small and 4 hours is too long. Part of the problem is that the bus had people on the Top of the Workd tour as well so the timings were around that trip.

Our tour was upgraded on the bus. We upgraded from the Interlaken and Grindelwald Day Trip to the Juanfranc Top of the World trip after discussions with our tour guide. The most amazing trip we've ever undertaken. The pick up and drop off times were exact. Our tour guide was informative and entertaining.

Our tour was added with the other tour in the bus and the bus was crowded. The guide was not very friendly since we were the only family at Grindelwald the guide did not really explain anything not worth the money you can take a local bus to both the places and it will be cheaper. No worth the money spent

Jib, the tour guide was not friendly and unapproachable. It was very hard to understand him. There were only four us going to Grindelward and we were part of another tour. 4 1/2 hours at Grindelwald is too long but that was because they wanted top accommodate the other group that had a much longer tour. This should be disclosed up front. Interlaken and Grindelwald were both beautiful. Glad we went.

While the driver Armando was extremely helpful and the guide Kid was nice, I was extremely disappointed in my overall experience. _br/_ Apparently I was the only one on my tour of over 60 people who didn't pay the extra 150 to go up to the top of the mountain, something that was only brought to my attention on our way to Interlaken. I was told that I would be left in Interlaken about an hour longer than the rest of the tour, while they were being driven to the top of the mountain. I was given no guidance on what to see there, and it was freezing so no outdoor activities would have been possible. Once the driver picked me up, he drove me to Grindelwald. We got there around 12:30. I asked what time I would be meeting with the rest of the group, and he said they wouldn't be there until 4:45pm! I was left for over 4 hours again on my own, with no guidance on what to see or where to go. Again, it was freezing, had just snowed and most of the shops and restaurants were closed. There are only so many cups of coffee you can have... If I had known prior to taking the tour that I was the ONLY one who would be left behind, I would have stayed in Lucerne for the day. I don't mind traveling alone, but I specifically booked a tour so I could experience my one full day in Switzerland as part of a group. Instead I spent a majority of the day on my own with no idea of where I should have spent my time!

We are very unhappy. We attended the victor tour a lot of times, but this tour give us a very very bad experience!!!

the trip identification needs to be clarified. the trip is focused on a trip to and in the jungfrau mountain. this is not clear. the trip guide told us this when we got on the bus. gave us a chance to upgrade which we turned down. the bus stops for 45 minutes in interlaken and goes to grindelwald only to take people to the jungfrau. the guide dropped us in interlaken to the others to the jungfrau, had the bus come back after 2 hours and pick us up and drop us off in grindelwald to wander around until the group went to the jungfrau and back about 5 hours we had a good time, but the trip needs to be clarified on your site. it is not a trip to interlaken and grindelwald exclusively

The coach arrived late from Zurich, when our lot of 15 boarded, that made 70 people. This was a bit of a surprise. Kit was very organized, abrupt and difficult to understand. No mention of upgrading to the Jungfrau tour! This is not a guided tour but probably a quicker way to do this trip. A train might be cheaper. By the time you walk around Interlaken, watch some hang gliders land in a central picturesque park, you are ready for the next trip to Grindelwald. The only apparent option is the cable car up to Mt First which has several adventure activities that you can do. Hire bikes for part of decent, flying fox, watch the hang gliders taking off. At 59CHF each extra, made it very expensive day. Trip up to Mt Jungfrau wasn't much more! We had a glorious day with the weather and the scenery on First was amazing. Bad traffic saw us late home.

Fantastic review!! We caught our bus only 3 blocks from our hotel in Lucerne. Boarded a luxury motorcoach that took us to Interlaken . We were given very detailed plans about the day and 3 options we could choose for the day. Peter was our guide and was enthusiastic, charming and friendly. He did not want us to feel forced to upgrade, but rather gave us information that we could not resist upgrading. And we did not regret our upgrade!!!! It cost us 115 more per person to go up to the top of Europe. Our booking was just to Interlaken and Grindelwald. The stop in Interlaken was 1/2 hour. We got real hot chocolate and croissant. Boarded the bus to go up further and catch two types of trains to the very top. The rides were enjoyable and informative and comfortable. Our group had 21 people. We had reservations on these trains just for us that Peter handled. At the top of Jungfrau we had two hours to go through a prearranged tour of the history and making of this amazing facility. We felt light headed and were instructed to take our time and walk slowly. We also had an amazing lunch at the top. Gorgeous scenery right outside our window. We were able to take an elevator to the top and go outside to take photos. It was -5. We also wandered into the Lindt chocolate factory/ store. After 2 hours, we boarded the train and went back down. Stopping a few times for photo opportunities like we did on the way up. Boarded our bus in Grindelwald and a bus ride back to Lucerene. Peter and Armando, thank you for out amazing adventure where we enjoyed EVERY single second! And we did!!! So good to have met you Peter! A charming representative of Switzerland!!! We love you!!! _br/_ David and Susan George and Amal

First signed up for this tour to Grindelwald but considering it was a Sunday where most of the shops were closed, in the end decided to join most of the group on the Jungfraujoch tour. Tour guide was very knowledgable and provided a very fun journey up to the mountains where the view was spectacular. A very enjoyable trip indeed :

On a clear day the views must be awesome however we were not so lucky. We booked quite a bit before travelling so you get what the weatherman gives you. We were OK with that. We had booked from Luzern to Interlake/Grindelwald coach travel - 2 hours in Interlaken and 4 hours in Grindelwald. We had not paid to go up Jungfrau. Coach was on time came from Zurich. But be aware - no coffee/drinks allowed on the bus. Had to throw away the fresh coffees. Day was wet and clouds were thick and low. Our guide tried to up sell us on going to the top of Jungfrau for another 110 CHF per person on top of the 100 we had already paid. I am sure it is worth it on a clear day but definitely not when everything is covered in clouds. Not sure if he gets paid commission but he tried a couple of times to get us to go. Not impressed!!! Would have liked more time in Interlaken as they have a funicular train that goes up a mountain as well. All in all great places to visit but do it on a clear day if possible. Both towns are small and walkable.

This trip is worth doing only for the location. Grindelwald very beautiful. I have rated this a three as I was very disappointed with the trip. We where put on a tour group that was going to jungfrau mountain and the tour guide for them kept trying to push us to pay more and go on the tour with them and not go on the tour that we paid for. We didn't want to go with them as we had been to mt Pilitas the day before and wanted to go to Grindelwald that's why we booked this tour. He then just told us to get off in Interlakenhoheweg and wait 2 hours and meet bus to take us to grindlewald for 4 hours that was the only information we received. Very disappointed as we paid for a guided tour.

Our guide, Kid, was amazing! He made sure to take fabulous photos of everyone and give us helpful hints. He alone was 5 stars! The reason I didn't give this tour 5 stars was because we only got 20 min in Interlaken and around an hour in Jungfrau. It felt very rushed w/ most of the day going 2 travel

Did Heidiland tour instead as realised that this would be a repeat of jungfraujoch scenery. Felt Heidiland trip had too much in it. Had litytle time in Heidiland which was a shame since this was the main attraction. Could do without Lindt factory stop. Also spent a long time looking at a ski slop with melting snow. Rushed Leichestein as well. Lunch stop was lovely

We should have read the other reviews listed before booking this tour, as we had the same problems: The tour was combined with another tour, the guide spoke very poor English, the main town to see is Interlaken and they tried to give us only 25 minutes there! We complained and got a slightly longer period, however well short of what is needed to explore this lovely location. We then went onto Grindelwald (unguided) with just the bus driver. He was as helpful as he could be, and was very pleasant, however there is not a lot to do in the very small town, and 3 or 4 hours there (waiting for all the other passengers to return from the other tour) is way too much!

This is the best way to explore the landscape just right below Alpine mountain. We have about 5 hours to do little hiking, enjoy the landscape, having a nice lunch in one of Indian Restaurant and take many beautiful picture. I also think that join this tour is the easiest way to get grindelwald rather than by train with reasonable price.

We enjoyed the trip, but we were put on the same bus as the group that was going on further up the mountain top. We were given the choice to hang out in Interlocken for awhile and then we would be picked up later to be taken to Grindelwald to hang out longer until the rest of the group returned from the top. Or we could upgrade our trip for an additional 32 Swiss francs a piece to include a cog train ride to go halfway up the mountain with the others and then a train trip back down to Grindelwald by ourselves to meet up with the rest. We ended up upgrading, but we were irritated that we had to do this and our relaxing day turned into a stressful one of navigating trains alone and worrying about missing the bus. The guide informed us that he did not take euros or credit card either. So that also added to the irritation...having to find an ATM machine. This particular trip needs to be rethought. We loved the scenery but were very disappointed with the logistics. We honestly felt like we had no guided tour.

Great day and weather. My wife and I were looking for a day in the alps and it was exactly what i had hoped for. For many years i have wanted to see the Eiger with my own two eyes. It was a Sunday in late May so a bit quiet in Interlackan and Grindelwald. I can't imagine what it would be like in peak season. Madness I'm sure. Most of the folks on our coach were heading up to Jungfraujoch so we were dropped off at Interlaken. We had about 90 min. to roam around. We were picked up and taken up to Grindelwald where we had 4 plus hours of splendour. The Eiger is magical and our trip on the gondola to Mt First was worth the $. As i said, it was Sunday with a lot of shops closed but we could still find a cold beer. It was very quiet and if the weather was poor, it would have been a different story. We only had the one full day, on our way Como, to make the trip and we nailed it. Great coach ride and very scenic. A great way to day trip to the Jungfrau region. Easier than a bus or train...........Michael. Halifax Canada

The value of this tour is in the transportation to and from Interlaken and Grindelwald. Both are great places to see and enjoy, but they are a distance from many destinations such as our location in Lucerne. If you have transportation, or want to ride the public transportation, then you can go on your own to see these sites. There was no guided tour or much info, just drive, drop off and pick-up.

The Guide who conducted was very abrupt. When we reached the Tourist Information centre, he started shouting we being late, thought the fact was that we reached 15 min before time and bus arrived just on time. Moreover, he was running like headless chicken all around. He gave very little information during the trip. Since this trip just a part of the "Jungfraujoch Top of Europe Day Trip from Lucerne" we were again given only 15 mins in Interlaken. How can one expect to visit the whole city in 15mins. After much persistent and heated argument we were allowed to spend 3 hrs in Interlaken.

An awesome way to know the alps ! Interlaken is a lovely little town, but we spent most of the day in Grindelwald, on the foot of the Jungfrau. Just the view from the town was worth the ride alone, but the beautiful city, friendly environment and nice weather made it for a perfect day!

It was not clear where we were to me the coach or guide. I had to make a call to make sure if we were in the right place. The guide and coach were late. Our guide told us they were delayed in Zurich. When I inquired about this excursion I was told we could not get the coach in Zurich. We traveled by train to Lucerne in order to make this trip.

Be aware! I signed up for this tour thinking the tour was of Interlaken and Grindelwald, as the name suggests. But, it turned out everyone else on the bus was going to the top of Jungfraujoch, which is a 200 CHF round trip cable car ride. It's also a 20 minute drive from Grindelwald. I'm a student and clearly couldn't afford that, so the driver had to take me separately to Grindelwald by myself. The only reason I recommend this tour is because Grindelwald is incredible. I had about 5 hours there, so I paid 30 CHF for a gondola up to the top of First, and then hiked about 2.5 hours down. Amazing.

Beautiful scenery. I especially liked the trip to Grindelwald. You must walk up the hill or take the bus for the short trip up the hill to the only church in the village. The view from there of the mountains and glacier is awesome. The guide was with us only on the bus, but he was informative and great about telling us when to prepare for a good picture.

It could be better if the trip shows lakes of the Interlaken and spend some times there. As spending 5 hours in Grindelwald is useless.

Terrible tour. Got on the bus, rode to Interlaken where the bus stopped for 30 minutes outside of town. Got back on the bus and then stopped to drop off the group going up the mountain. The bus driver drove us to Grindlwald, left us and told us to be back in 5 hours. Grindlwald is a much smaller town than Interlaken. It was a Sunday with a lot of stores closed and you could walk from one side of town to the other in 1/2 hour. So all we could do was walk through town, have lunch and sit and wait three hours for the bus to come back. Not my cup of tea.
