Loved this tour. James was a great guide and so knowledgeable about Spain, Madrid and the tapas culture. We had a small group and all got to know each other well. I thought this tour might drag given the late finish but it went really fast due to James and the other people on our tour.

This was great!!! Our guide, James, an expat Scot was fantastic. He was funny and above all--very informative about Madrid. We ate so many different tapas 10-15 at least plus sidra and wines. I can't begin to say how much fun we had walking around Madrid seeing Madridlenos enjoying their traditional evening entertainment of stopping at bars, socializing, enjoying great food.

This was an excellent experience and definitely worth doing. Unfortunately it was torrential rain which could have spoiled it completely 3 people didnt turn up because of the weather but our guide, James, made it a good night. He had a loud deep voice which meant that as we walked along we could hear him clearly. The tapas ordered was varied and ,although I personally didnt like it all, was great to give it a go. James pointed out a number of things that we certainly wouldn't have found out for ourselves about traditions etc. We visited 4 places and sampled different foods in each one. Only the first stop price is included in the price but James organised food and drink in the other 3 and we all put in enough money to cover the cost. This suited us and worked well and wasnt expensive. We manage to find our way back to one tapas bar for our last evening and got great food!!

Our trip started in Madrid and I wanted something that introduced us to the city, it's food and culture. What better way than a food and drink tour. This was a perfect choice. Our guide was very friendly and knowledgeable of the city. She made us all feel very comfortable and our group meshed well together. The bars were very typical in my opinion but crowded. The food the she made for us were awesome and there was more than enough to go around and then some. Would recommend this tour. Thank you

This was the most fun that we had in Madrid. Our tour guide Miriam was THE BEST. She paid close attention to every person in the group, made sure that everyone was comfortable and being served what they wanted when they wanted it. Our group was a very nice size - 11 persons - and every one was so great - we had time to chat and learn about where everyone was from, where they were headed next, etc. It was a great social event, but even more so, Miriam taught us about North and Southern Spain, how the food and drink in each place differs, how to be aware what type of bar we were in and how to order accordingly, etc. She brought us to places that we would have never thought of to go, and had us try food that we would have never known to try. We LOVED it and stayed out past the final stop, our guide had to head on her way long past her required job time! and we had the extreme privilege to enjoy time with one of the couples on our tour the next evening whilst we were both still in Spain. We made friends that we hopefully will keep forever! A WONDERFUL introduction to Madrid's city center. HIGHLY recommended. Miriam was the BEST.

James was the best possible guide we could imagine for this fun Tapas Tour in Madrid. Do it your first night there so you can get a culinary overview of all the possibilities in this beautiful city. With 7 people total we were able to socialize, relax and enjoy great wines and tapas

A big part of my first and so far only trip to Spain's success can be attributed to our guide Miriam, a native who led us on a brisk, informative, and fun tour of some tapas bars in and around the Puerta del Sol. As a novice solo traveler, I knew joining a group for some activity would be recommended, and I was not wrong.

I had an enjoyable night. The tour is a great way to meet like minded people. I was travelling alone so it was good to meet some different people._br/_ Charlie our guide was fantastic and a good laugh. It was a good fun night out, plenty of alcohol - I don't think the tapas food was that great. But maybe that's just me.

Our tour guide was great and the food was great. We knew in advance that we would have to pay after the first stop. On previous tours we took we were charged individually and we paid by credit card. It was an unpleasant surprise when we were told were paying communally and had to pay in cash. We had to scramble to find an ATM. First, we had to pay 20 euros each. We were told that we would probably get some money back. Later we were told we had to pay an additionally 10 euros each because it wasn't enough. I think part of the problem was the tour guide ordered too much food. We left a lot of food behind at each place.

My friend had warned me Madrid might not be great for a single traveler since everyone goes in groups. Whether or not he was right, this was a great way to do tapas my first night in Spain. James our guide made it great by getting everybody introduced. Lots of food and drinks. Very much worth it.

Great tour with a wonderful guide who took us to 4 tapas bars from the different regions of Spain. The price included the first bar and then we chipped in 20 Euros each to cover the remaining bars. We had enough to cover all and some to spare. I highly recommend the tour for those who want an introduction into this culinary adventures of Madrid.

We are so glad we did this. We are both adventurous types who aren't afraid of the unknown, and we had already explored earlier during our first day in Madrid, but our guide Miriam and our group bonded very early during this night out. Miriam took us to some great stops and made incredible food recommendations and drink pairings along the way. 4 hours later we all said goodnight and went our separate ways, but shared a lot of stories and laughs along the way. My wife and I both felt that this was the best excursion money we've spent during our travels through many countries and are probably going to do it again in Seville.

Wow! What a night! We had an amazing tour guide and a wonderful group of people to share the night with. The food and drink was fabulous. The night went so quickly. Charlie, our tour guide, ensured that we were safely in a taxi to go home. Couldn't ask for a better night.

Excellent tour! We not only visited four very different tapas bars with very different character, but they had very different menu choices as well. Our guide spoke excellent English and was very knowledgeable. She provided detailed explanation of the food types and choices available from different regions of Spain, which we were exposed to on the tour. She provided detailed history of the development of these various food choices and how they are prepared. Since we walked throughout the older part of Madrid, we also got a detailed history on many of the locations we passed, so of a historical walking tour of mid-town Madrid, only at night, a freebie. Highly recommend this tour very early in sightseeing as it helps in sorting out thetapas experience during the remainder of your stay as this appears to be the only food available throughout Spain. Our guide, Miriamsp, was the best guide of our entire 10 days in Spain and we had many excellent guides.

James was an absolute delight and a ton of fun!! He took us to a ton of places and tried all the tapas Madrid had to offer. We tried the traditional Iberian ham and seafood fresh that day. We also had tasty drinks to go along with it. Am so glad we chose to do this and it honesty made our trip. Would highly recommend to anyone!

This tour was fantastic! A small group around 12 people, and the guide was so funny! He had some interesting insides and storys. The restaurants were amazing and the food was fun, tasteful and the bear/vine was so nice, and the Scottish ascent of our guide was so fun to listen to in Spain!

I was traveling alone - and this was a great solution for the fact that everything is meant to be shared in Madrid. Our tour guide, James, was knowledgeable and ordered some great tapas for us.

This is the best way to be introduced to Madrid. Do it on your first night. You feel your way down to Plaza del Sol using a map provided by the hotel, find the tour guide in our case, James by the little bear/tree sculpture, and then relax and have fun. Not only do you meet some new friends 11 in our group, but you visit some cute tapas bars and eat some great food and wonderful beverages of many styles along the way. Your guide tells you some history and points out some sights, but best of all, tells you about the customs and local practices that will let you negotiate Madrid on your own during the rest of your trip, without feeling like an idiot. You pay for three-quarters of your food and drinks out of your pocket, but you can order as much or as little as you want. Also, you get to choose what you want the guide offers many suggestions - all turned out great - I didn't think I'd like anchovies, for instance. Highly recommended. If they had six stars, I'd give James six.

We had a very good time and would also recommend starting your stay in Spain with this tour as the information is very useful. Defiantly enough to eat, slightly more expensive than we thought , yet overall a good way to experience different foods. Really fun to meet people from other areas of the world. Enjoyed James and appreciated all the good information.

Really great tour. Our guide, Ivan did a nice job of sharing information about the food and different areas of Madrid. Unfortunately, there were a number of cancellations, so there were just the two of us on the tour. We ended up having too much food and spending more than we would have if there had been a greater number of people, but Ivan definitely did his best to make this a good experience for us!

Our guide was James and it was wonderful, the name of the local tour company is Adventurous Appetities so be prepared to try eating things you would not normally eat. The tour lasted about 4 hrs starting at 8pm. Lots of food you will not go hungry. You get to try many of the local specialities like the cider and ham but also some more interesting food. It was a small group of great people which is always our preference. James gave us information about Madrid itself as well as what and where to eat during our stay in Madrid. Even though we had already been in Spain for 4 weeks at this point, touring the country, it was our second night in Madrid and still extremely informative. I recommend taking the tour at the beginning of your stay in Madrid, not towards the end which some of the group had done. The first bar is paid for by the guide afterwards the group pays for their own. James recommended putting money into a kitty which made things much easier for paying, he took care of everything and we could just sit back and enjoy the experience and get to know our new friends.

I really enjoyed this tour. Our tour guide was a bit quiet, but he had all the facts and tips we needed. Some people were surprised how the tour was structured pay for the tour, the food as you go but I think it was great. When we wanted the second bottle of wine, we treated ourselves. Was a small group and we clicked, so that helped too, of course.

We would never have tasted such a large variety of food and drink, visited the little side roads of central Madrid and learnt a little about the history of some of the food, drink and places, if it hadn't been for this tour and Ivan our guide.

Difficult finding tour - yellow umbrella marker not used, yellow paper flyer held over her head in square packed with people._br/_ Tour not at all like expected and unlike similar tours experienced at other cities._br/_ Unclear costs after first free drink. Costs were estimated by guide and divided among participants. No local drink options, red wine taste at all but one site. Tapa swere available on single plate held out in group of people with result that people close to guide got several while those behind missed out. No local diversity and very little site identification._br/_ Unpleasant experience wished we had never done.

Nice small group. Have been to Madrid 6 times previously but was able to walk away feeling like I had learned something and had new experiences. Food was good as was the company. Our guide was well informed and engaged in great dinner discussions. Fun night out!

Review by:   Stefanie A,    September 2017 Review: 2 star rating: It was OK, but could have been better
The tour is not explained correctly. We chose this tour because we had the option to buy what we wanted to try at each place, but this was not the case. Everyone in our group wanted to purchase different things and keep money separate an option the guide gave us, and then when we all chose that option, the guide said it was not best and made us pool our money. If this was explained upfront in the Viator description, we would not have been nearly as bummed as we were, as our expectations would have been in line with the tour set-up.

We were a small group of international travellers. The Spanish guide lead us to four different bars from different Spanish regions, mostly frequented by local inhabitants. The tapas and drinks served were delicious and typical for the special regions well explained by the guide. Absolutely recommandable!

Great tour for foodies! Charlie was our tapas host for the evening excursion. It ended up being a late night for us since we lost track of time eating through Madrid! We tasted iberian ham, traditional cider, seafood tapas, blood sausages, grilled asparagus, eggplant, padron peppers and much more.

Overall, we really enjoyed this tour and would recommend it. However, please know that this does end up being a fairly pricey experience. Especially for those that are picky eaters! We were under the impression that after the 1st free drink/tapas, we could order what we wanted and pay for ourselves as we went along. That was not the case. We ended up putting in about 30 euros each at the start of the evening and the guide picked a few tapas at each place for all of us to enjoy. Everything was really delicious but if you don't like certain foods that are ordered, you pay for them anyway. Our guide was fun and informative and we loved the people on our tour. So it was worth it! Just wish I realized that we didn't chose our own items along the way. Also, have euros on you! We expected to use our credit card, but it made it easier to just pay the guide with euros so that he could handle the bill at each location.
