Marrakech Botanical Tour

Marrakech, Morocco

Spend an afternoon exploring the botanical treasures of Marrakech. Visit the famous Majorelle Garden, where you’ll see its colorful history and French influence reflected in exotic plants and architecture. Then surround yourself with the orchards and olive groves of Menara Garden before ending your tour with a horse and carriage ride through the city.

Your Marrakech garden tour begins with an afternoon pickup from your central hotel or riad. Enjoy a scenic calash drive along the city’s fortress with the Atlas mountains as a background, en route to two of Marrakech’s spectacular oases. The Majorelle and Menara Gardens are a haven of peace in a city of chaos.

Your first stop is the world-famous Majorelle Garden, a 2.5-acre paradise of exotic plants and fountains set in the heart of Marrakech. Designed by expatriate French artist Jacques Majorelle, the gardens were inspired by the Art Nouveau movement and reflect Majorelle’s love of flora and fauna. Marjorelle’s studio is now a vibrant museum, which has become known for its deep blue color aptly called “Majorelle Blue.” After being somewhat neglected following the painter's death, the gardens have since been restored to its former glory by Yves Saint-Laurent, whose ashes were scattered in the rose garden.

Continue your tour with a visit of the Menara Garden, at the entrance to the Atlas Mountains. Built in the 12th century by sultan Abderrahmane, the area was his summer residence. Explore the stately pavilion, orchards and olive groves as you stroll the historic grounds.

After the gardens, continue on a horse drawn carriage ride around the city. Pass by the ruins in Hivernage and Mamounia as well as the Agdal Gardens, which are part of the royal domain, before returning to your hotel or riad.

The Majorelle gardens are stunning by itself worth the trip. The Menara 'garden' is a large olive grove without much to see, although we had fun watching the families picnic and make music. The horse 'tour' was completely a miss, simply a carriage ride out to the suburbs and back with no real view.

It was ok. The garden was beautiful, but it would have been more fun with a guide explaining the plants etc. Overall, a good trip. Me and my mother enjoyed the garden and the carriage ride.

The tour fulfilled my expectations the tour guide was highly knowledgeable and pleasant. Through no fault of his own, the public garden was in disastrous shape perhaps disgusting, while the Majorelle garden was sublime. I would use the tour guide again. He and his driver were courteous, professional and sensitive to their customers' needs.

Very nice tour to visit Jardin Majorel and also to get a cariage trip. Our guide was very useful, worth it for the money.

Not like it very much and not value for money. Only thing I enjoyed about this tour was the city tour on horse carriage. The gardens was not very interesting specially the second one. It's just a public garden where you don't have to pay to get in. Not recommended.

An excellent tour which included coach tours to the Marjorelle and Menara Gardens with a horse and carriage ride back to the centre of Marrakesh._br/_ The Majorelle Garden is superb, well designed, full of interesting plants and extremely well maintained. By comparison the Menara Garden is not so interesting. Just a small pavilion plus a large reservoir surrounded by olive groves much litter around and some mud brickwork in need of repair. However the splendid horse and carriage ride back soon made up for this disappointment._br/_ One word of advice the Viator website states, Your Marrakech garden tour begins with an afternoon pickup from your central hotel or riad. Ours nearly did not. Our riad was in the Medina and therefore central but the first advice from the local tour operator was to report to a meeting point some 3.3 km from the riad. It took an email to Viator and a second call from the UK to the tour operator in Marrakesh to secure a local pick-up in a minibus. On the day this arrangement worked well, but both Viators and the local operators communication skills need improvement.

Jardin morjorelle is quite small but exotic in plantation and indigo blues, a beautiful and romantic stroll in the garden. The tour consist of large group, coach size which was ok, then to Menara oasis with vast olive tree crops and space, good for get away from city life of Marrakech but not far from city centre. Then ending the excursion with horse carriage ride shared between other tourist if less than 3-2 people as carriage carry max 4 people per carriage. Pleasant ride outside city wall and admiring the busy day to day city life of the locals.most enjoyable.

I found this tour a little dissapointing we were told thst we would be visiting three gardens but actually visited one botanical garden and a olive grove, i am afraid i can not see the point of visiting the olive grove

An interesting afternoon in beautiful gardens and completed by taking a carriage round the outer walls of the city. Very informative guide, who liked us to ask questions.

Enjoyed the Majorelle gardens and horse and carriage ride. Not much to see at the Menara gardens. Excellent pick up from hotel. Had difficulty confirming trip by phone, no answer the first few times.

I am so pleased my mother and I did this trip. The Marjorelle Gardens were fantastic, and the pick up and drop-off seamless and prompt. Menara Gardens I personally felt were less interesting, but other than that, it was really well worth it!

"Botanical Tour" is a complete misnomer. The bus-ride to the Jardin Majorelle was on-time, well-organised and the guide during the bus-ride gave some interesting basic statistics about Morocco (not, however, about gardens). The Jardin Majorelle was interesting but I could have easily got there by taxi and had more time to explore. The second "garden" was not a garden at all but an extremely dirty, heavily littered public park made up of a muddy concrete pond and several acres of drab olive trees knee-deep in plastic bags, cans and other assorted rubbish. NOT a garden, I repeat NOT a garden. The trip back into the city by pony-and -trap was cute but we shared it with another couple and had to sit facing backwards and saw practically nothing. I am sure there must be other gardens in Marrakech but this tour certainly didn't even consider them. I would not advise ANYONE to take this tour.

Majorelle Gardens was a fantastic surprise. Such cool lush surroundings, so unexpected. Enjoyed the ride on the caliche. A bit too long walking through the olive grove though.

My booking stated English speaking guide however I was in a French speaking group. Only 2 gardens visited. You are left in Majorelle garden for an hour then driven to Menara which is not really garden but open space and again wander for set time. Horse carriage ride back to Main square. Wouldn't recommend this trip. Better to take taxi to Majorelle Gardens.

Everything was fine apart from the fact that the complimentary pick up and drop off from and to our hotel was not respected.Complimentary pick up was a good reason to choose this tour because i suffer from lumbago! We had to wait at the main square of Marrakech 15 minutes walk from our hotel at 14.30 when is very hot...Our local guide Mohamed was a very good guide guy with a clever sense of humour, also the driver of the bus was driving carefully and safely considering the local bad traffic conditions, thanks for giving the oppurtunity to say my opinion, regards

The Majorelle gardens were very good but, unfortunately, it started to rain and got heavier which ruined the rest of the tour. Not much fun in an open carriage which was covered over and you could see nothing. Not the operators fault. They cannot control the weather.

Majorelle Gardens are stunning. The Menara gardens are more like an orchard and the Agdal gardens were closed as the King was in residence. However, the carriage ride is a good way to spend an hour or so and the tour was still good value for money.
