Small-Group Road to Hana Luxury Tour and Helicopter Flight

Maui, United States of America

Discover Maui's famous Road to Hana from the ground and from the sky! On this small-group luxury tour, relax on the drive to Hana in a luxury limo-van and make several stops along the way, including the Hawaiian village of Ke’anae, the Hana Tropical Gardens and a beautiful cascading waterfall, where you’ll get a chance to swim. On the reverse leg of the trip, take a scenic flight over the rugged coastline and soak in unbeatable views of the island. This 6-hour experience will surely be the highlight of your visit to Maui!

While in Maui, take a journey along the famous Road to Hana! On this 6-hour, small-group luxury tour, you’ll experience the Road to Hana from both the ground and sky. Board an air-conditioned, luxury limo-van at the Kahului Heliport and start your drive to Hana. With plush seats, large windows and a maximum of six passengers, this is the most comfortable way to navigate the winding roads, and is a perfect adventure for the whole family.

You’ll make several stops along this spectacular coastal drive including the quaint Hawaiian village of Ke’anae, Waikani Falls and Wai’anapanapa State Park and the scenic road leads, of course, to Hana. The village of Hana is isolated from the rest of the island and is known for being the last undeveloped tropical paradise on Maui. Explore the village and stop at the Hana Tropical Gardens for an exclusive tour (included) and learn about the native Hawaiian people, their culture and land. Enjoy fantastic photo opportunities at spectacular cascading waterfalls and crystal-clear pools, where you’ll have plenty of time to take a refreshing swim.

During one of the stops, enjoy a Pacific Rim lunch served on linen table cloths at a beachside location. Savor grilled chicken and fish, fresh tropical fruits and more – not your average deli-style meal! A sample lunch menu can be found below in the Itinerary section.

On the reverse leg of the trip, fly in an air-conditioned, 6- passenger ‘A-Star’ jet helicopter. During your thrilling 36-minute flight, soar above Haleakala Crater, the world’s largest and most famous dormant volcano, and admire fantastic aerial views of waterfalls hidden in remote areas of Maui’s rain forest. Enjoy stereo music and live narration throughout this breathtaking experience.

This was the first time my husband had been to Hawaii so I thought this was a great way to see Hana. He loved it!! So did I.

Great tour but Road to Hana was disappointing. This could have been due to the fact that we had the afternoon tour which starts with the helicopter ride and ends with the 3-5 hour ride home from Hana. Drive back only makes two stops...lunch and then a waterfall swim stop. Tour had seven participants which is more than the six the tour states but that's just a small point. The helicopter ride was awesome first time in a helicopter and the waterfalls/island were amazing from that perspective. Mike pilot was great and had lots of interesting facts, history, tidbits and made sure to include everyone in the helicopter by asking and answering questions. Haleakala was covered in clouds so we did not get to fly too high up its' slopes but we did get to see an extra waterfall. Steve van driver was very knowledgeable and made the drive enjoyable. We got lucky by taking tour on Easter Sunday and minimal opposing traffic on all of the one lane bridges. FYI - If you get motion sickness, ask for the front seat and a handful of the ginger candies for the drive. Helicopter is smoother than an airplane, so don't be afraid to do it. In fact, I would suggest doing an entire helicopter tour of Maui and other islands if budget allows and skip the Road to Hana rent a car and drive up Haleakala 10,023' instead on another day.

There was mechanical issues with the Blue Hawaiian Eco-Star Helicopter that delayed departure 45 minutes, a reserve helicopter had to be put in service, it was an older helicopter, not an Eco-Star, it did not have the windows for viewing of the Eco-Star. We were not told that there was a issue with our helicopter until 30 minutes past our departure time. No discount was offered.

Fantastic helicopter flight to Hana. Our pilot gave detailed descriptions of what we flew over. He knew the area so well. Upon landing we were met by Gayle, our guide for the land portion. She really knows and loves the Hana Rd. Lunch by the beach was delicious and the tour van was very comfortable.

Our Van tour guide Scotty was great. Entertaining and knowledgeable of Maui. Even though it was a cloudy rainy day we had a wonderful time. I know we wouldn't have saw half of what we saw and learned about if we would have went on our own. It was so much nicer to come back by helicopter instead of driving all the way back. Our pilot Rick was nice and a excellent pilot. We saw whales from the helicopter on the way back. Thanks to all for a good time.

Overall the tour was good. The driver was pleasant and knowledgeable. The van was new, clean and comfortable and lunch was good not gourmet but decent. It was a cold an rainy day and if weather was nicer it would have been more enjoyable, but that obviously wasn't the fault of the provider. The biggest disappointment was that due to the weather, we couldn't fly over the crater. We were able to fly along the coastline, which was beautiful.

Gayle our tour guide was great! Having a large van with 6 big captain chairs and only 6 people makes for a more personal trip. It was easier for Gayle to pull into smaller spots and with just 6 people we could make quicker stops and get on down the road. Lunch at the park on the beach was lovely and seeing the beaches at and just past Hana was great too. I think we were able to see a few extra beaches because all 6 of us were always back in the van on time. My husband and I sat on the back row but with each stop we would trade places so that we both got to sit on the ocean side of the van about half the time.

The small van tour was a luxury-much better than big tour bus. Gail was an excellent guide-very knowledgeable and friendly. Lunch was very tasty. Waterfalls and black beach were awesome. What we saw from the helicopter was nice, although the weather was foggy and rainy, so we were disappointed that we did not see more of the island. We were forced to stay along the shoreline and did not see any of the crater, mountains. Disappointing, but totally understood that safety comes first. Our pilot, Hugo, did a great job explaining the terrain and gave us so many interesting facts about the island.

The helicopter road combination tour was perfect. The helicopter showed us the crater and volcanic formations and beautiful waterfalls and the van and driver were terrific on the way back.

Five stars for sure. Worth the time and money. Steve was our driver, he was knowledgeable, friendly and very sweet to spend time with. Our pilot Hugo was the best! He was funny as well as knowledgeable on the terrain. Best day on Maui! Well do it again.

This excursion was definitely one of my highlights from our Hawaii vacation!!! I was very apprehensive at first when we booked it because I often get motion sickness. However the helicopter ride was extremely comfortable since we had individual seats with our own air vents. The views on the helicopter were amazing with us seeing numerous waterfalls. The van driver Scott Ferguson was very entertaining and kept us well informed about what we were viewing. We all appreciated the fact that he knew the road to Hana so well that we felt completely safe the whole time he was driving and we were all able to concentrate on enjoying the scenery. I loved the way he would let us know in advance that a spectacular photo opportunity was just around the corner or next curve so to have our cameras ready. If we would have been driving our own vehicle I'm sure we would have missed so much. This excursion was first class from the moment we arrived at the helicopter hangar until the moment the van returned us to our rental vehicle. Thank you Viator for packaging this lovely excursion!

We chose this tour because we were traveling with people who had never been on the road to Hana before, but we did not want to do the drive both ways. Wendy, our guide, met us a the heliport for the drive portion a few minutes before the appointed time. As we were ready we left early. She did a fabulous job all day, pointing out the highlights, and helping with photography. She showed upmost concern for our comfort and safety on a drive that can be very difficult at times. It was great not to drive, as we have driven the road twice before ourselves. After stopping at several places for a swim and photo ops we ended the tour with a very good picnic lunch. We met the helicopter after lunch for our ride back. The helicopter trip included an aerial tour of the Hana area, a view of some waterfalls on that side of the island and a flight up to the summit of Haleakala. On our return to the heliport, we spent some time time over the water off of Wailea and saw several whales. This short helicopter ride exceeded the expectations of the group. Jack, the pilot, did a great job pointing out the sights along the way.

Made the right decision on helicopter 1 way to avoid the backtracking of the great road to or from Hana. Gayle was great driver, but gave .too many personal views of island and outside world intervention, to her opinion not trip information.

Fabulous trip. Our driver Gary was very knowledgable on the Hawaiian history and everything about Hana! Although too cloudy to fly over Haleakala, we had a beautiful view of the islands. Would recommend this as a MUST DO excursion. Worth the money!

The weather didn't cooperate in the beginning, but by the time we got to the black sand beach it had quit raining and we got to explore the beach. Steve, our driver did a fantastic job driving us in the rain and had umbrellas for all of us to go check out the waterfall. We got to see the blowhole blow and enjoyed a delicious lunch of fish or chicken wrap with homemade pasta salad and fresh pineapple in the park. Our helicopter pilot, Derek, was also great. This tour was in my top 5 of all tours we've ever takes. Definitely do not miss this one.

The van was very nice and new, with comfy bucket seats and awesome a/c. We had a narrated tour and Gary was a safe and courteous driver. We made a few stops for some goodies and photo ops. Lunch in Hana was nicely done and fresh and tasty. The black sand beach was AMAZING and the cave or lava tube was very interesting as well. Chris was the helicopter pilot and he was also great. Knowledgeable and friendly as well as a very competent pilot. He also narrated and the views are awesome no matter what seat you sit in. State of the art helicopter and video recorded in flight for purchase after the flight. Reasonable price too! Worth the and a quick return to vacation afterwords. Thank you Viator!

This 1/2 day trip was awesome! We saw some beautiful sights on the van ride up and really enjoyed the helicopter ride back! I am very glad that we chose this trip! If I had it to do over again, I would have purchased a longer helicopter ride. Blue Hawaiian Heicoptor is OUTSTANDING!

Helicopter flight was great fun taking in lots of waterfalls, heavy cloud prevented rising to the top of the crater. Dropping down into the valleys was great fun, I just loved it. Dropped off for return via luxury transport on Road to Hana. We stopped off for lovely picnic lunch at the black sand beach. The journey then continued with a stop at the waterfall where we could have a dip. What an experience that was. Bit treacherous navigating the sharp and slippy rocks to get in but we did it!!!!! Comfort breaks were plenty although beware some of the facilities are less than basic. The views along the route are fantastic.

Fantastic Trip All Around_br/_ Trip to Hana was fun, beautiful and informative. We were in a small group of 6. SO glad we did not try to drive as the driver would not have been able to appreciate the scenery, being to busy focusing on the road and its obstacles instead of views. Helicopter ride was truly spectacular. The pilot provided commentary and took us over various areas. This is really a way to get a unique perspective of the lush beauty of the island. No reserving seats in the helicopter. You are weighed and assigned seats based on weight distribution within the helicopter. We were luck and sat right up front so we could see right through the bubble window. And I amwas? afraid of heights. A very secure experience._br/_ Highly recommend.

An awesome tour. Steve was a great driver and info-filled guide. We would have never made the road to Hana on our own. He made it a pleasure. Tim, the helicopter pilots also was great. Helpful with all the info he had as well. All in all, it was time very well spent.

Let me start by saying that there were several things to enjoy about this tour. The helicopter ride was FANTASTIC and our pilot was wonderful. He was funny and had great information about the things that we were seeing from the helicopter. The drive itself is quite beautiful, and I think we would have missed something if we had not visited this part of Maui.

The drive was very nice, but I felt rushed a bit. The Helicopter wasn't as much sightseeing as it was just a quick flight back. It was nice to avoid the long drive back. I'd recommend the trip, but try and get moving right away. Some of the people we went with were late and slow so it delayed our start. Then we were rushed to see things, and it was caused by people we didn't know. It was a fun trip and I'm glad we went.

Wayne our driver was very pleasant and a wealth of information throughout the trip. He stopped and provided opportunities for photos and the lunch he provided was very good. The helicopter ride was a bit of a disappointment but only because we expected to see more of the waterfalls and we didn't and the pilot wasn't as talkative or informative as Wayne, the bus driver.

We took the afternoon Viator and started by flying out with Blue Hawaiian Helicopter Tours - Maui located at 1 Kahului Airport Road, Hangar 105, Kahului, Maui. Essentially this flight eastward by pilot/guide Katie took us over sugar cane fields near Kahului while slowly gaining altitude it is a helicopter, after all to approximately 10,000 feet, all the time informing us of attractions below. We passed by the Haleakala astronomical observatory, the chain link fence which was erected to try to keep out feral goats, pigs and axis deer, and of course the main and subsidiary craters of Haleakala. As we headed further east into Haleakala National Park we noted the changing terrain and evidence of lava pipes from previous eruptions, some of which are now channels for rain water. Even further on we noted the tall trees over 100 feet of the Hana Forest Preserve and some spectacular waterfalls, one of which is nearly 1,600 feet high. We landed after about 35 minutes and were greeted by our driver/guide Wayne who drove us from the airport to Hanas black sand beach where we were treated to a tasty picnic lunch, and then the second part of our adventure began. _br/_         Wayne was a treasure trove of information regarding the scenic and historical attractions of the area, even including the burned out auto and appliance remnants along the highway. We saw the weeping wall, Keanae Peninsula across from which Steve McQueen jumped over the cliff in the movie Papillon, had the opportunity to take short hikes to various attractions, enjoyed ice cream at a roadside stand and saw the resting green sea turtles at Hookipa Beach Park. This combo fly/drive tour was the best! We saw things we never would have noticed if driving ourselves, and of course the helicopter tour showed us things it would have taken days of hiking to get to.

Fabulous helicopter ride to Hana. Gave such an incredible overview. Loved that our pilot was a female. The van return trip was great in most ways. Highly skilled driver, knew a lot about the plants and places we visited. Lunch....not so good. That's the only reason this didn't get 5 stars.

The helicopter ride was great but the road trip to Hana in the van isn't that good. The tour guide Su was very arrogant and did not cover what we wanted. As a tour guide, I would find out what interest the guest and cover accordingly by taking their inputs. She keeps on explaining the stuff that we are not interested and when we asked her what she was covering, she got frustrated and basically told us to see whatever she can show us. At the end she forced us to pay the tip even though we were really upset with her. I would never have her as our tour guide neither recommend to anybody else.

What a fabulous tour! We knew we had to do the Road to Hana, but letting someone else take the wheel is the way to go. We saw all the sites, learned a ton from our awesome guide Michael, and topped it off with the most breathtaking views I have ever seen in my life in the helicopter. This is the way to see Maui. We loved it!!!

Our pilot gave us a very smooth ride to Hana while showing us the crater, waterfalls and the awesome aqueduct system used to water the crops. Our driver, Michael was a wealth of knowledge about the island having lived in Hawaii over 30 years. He was very flexible and made sure we got to see and do everything we wanted on the road back from Hana. He brought us to many places we would have never thought to stop. Most were not labeled on the road. Lunch was delicious and very fresh. Wear your swimsuits, bring towels and change of clothes. We left at 11:45 and were back by 5:30. This is the only way to do the road to Hana

The Helicopter ride was AMAZING!!!!!! the van tour - soso. The Van guide was pretty self important there were only four of us in the van and told us she would stop whereever we wanted. Everytime I asked to stop and look at anything, she ignored me or said we'll stop soon - she stopped ever ten miles for the other couple to pick fruit on the side of the road. A little annoying. I would take the helicopter both ways next time - our guide was AWESOME and very interesting. I am a little disappointed I bought the video from blue hawaii helicopter tours and have not received it yet.
