Mazatlan Shore Excursion: City Tour and Cliff Diving Show

When in port in Mazatlan, take a guided walking tour of the city, learn about its history and discover its hidden gems. You'll see the famous cliff divers and stroll past renowned monuments. You'll also wander the historic district of Old Mazatlan, including the Cathedral, Municipal Market, Angela Peralta Theater and Machado Square. Then, enjoy panoramic views of Mazatlan from Watchers Hill before heading back to the cruise ship port.

Mazatlan is a city full of history and wonders, and you'll discover it all on this city tour shore excursion. The history is a mix between the early Aztec settlers, the Spanish arrival in the mid-16th century and the Western (French and American) invaders. Although both the French and the United States invaded Mazatlan in the mid-19th century, the only remaining evidence is the old Spanish Fort.

Venture away from the Northern tourist zone and visit Old Mazatlan -- a charming, picturesque, typical Mexican downtown. Visit the 19th-century cathedral and its majestic rising towers, and take a stroll in the famous Plaza de Revolucion. The marketplace is located only two blocks away and is a must-see when in Mazatlan. Wander through the different stalls with the locals, and browse for gifts for friends and family. The marketplace has everything from fresh fruits and vegetables to small souvenirs.

Mazatlan is also known for the resting place of the famous opera singer, Angela Peralta. Head over to the Machado Square, a plaza surrounded by picturesque sidewalk cafes and historic buildings, and explore the Angela Peralta Theater. Ironically, the "Nightingale of Mexico" never actually performed at this theater. While she was en route to Mazatlan to perform at the theater, she fell ill to yellow fever on her ship and passed away before she could perform.

Also famous in Mazatlan is the dangerous sport of cliff diving. You'll witness first-hand how these daredevils jump from 45-foot (14-meter) platforms into only five feet (1.5 meters) of water. It’s a show not to be missed when in Mazatlan!

The tour was good but the city was under construction so a lot of the roads were impassable. But what we did get to see was nice. The weather was hot and humid but that didn't stop us from enjoying it. The time spent in the mercado ? was a little too long but we grabbed an ice cream bar and spent the remaining time enjoying that with the sights and sounds. Mazatlan is a beautiful place and once the construction is done it will be better.

Similar to cruise ship excursion but much cheaper. Had trouble at beginning finding guide as he was from a different tour company than shown on voucher .Luckily we asked otherwise would probably have been left behind .Guide was informative ,

Not family friendly and not what we expected. We got off our ship and found the tour operator. We preceded to wait for 30 minutes apparently for one other couple who never showed. Since it was just us, I think they were trying to sell other people on it to go with.

The tour guide was good. The only thing is that they take you to places that they want you to spend money at, jewelry shops, markets, tequila store, etc.

Mix up getting started. 45 minutes delay in getting our driver. Extra time going to the office for 1 visitor to use their credit card to pay for the tour. The tour was very nice. Would have liked more time with the divers. Too much time at the jewelry store but others were buying. Felt rushed because the cruise ship was in port for such a short time. Otherwise very satisfactory. We liked our guide.

This tour was a shore excursion that gave us a great overall perspective of Mazatlan city. We were able to get out of the bus at several locations and enjoy the scenery, including the famous cliff divers. The tour guide was very friendly and patient at every stop and gave historical information while traveling to each stop. I would definitely recommend this tour especially for first-time visitors to Mazatlan.
