Garibaldi Night Tour

Mexico City, Mexico

See the vibrant Mexico City streets at night on this unique Garibaldi night tour! Visit the Zocalo (main square) to admire its illuminated monuments and continue to the famous Plaza Garibaldi, the meeting place of the mariachis. Experience the culture of Mexico City with live music, dancing and a traditional cockfight.

Your guided tour begins with a visit to the Zocalo, the main plaza located in the heart of Mexico City. The Zocalo is one of the largest city squares in the world and is bordered by the Cathedral to the north and the National Palace to the east. You will see both monuments lit up on your night tour. The Zocalo is just one of many astonishing spots in Mexico City.

Continue to Plaza Garibaldi, a meeting place of the most famous Mexican musicians, the mariachis. You'll visit a restaurant in Plaza Garibaldi for a classic Mexican show to learn about the folklore and traditions of Mexico. While here, you'll see a short cockfight, recognized as an ancient form of entertainment in Mexico. Listen to the live music, enjoy your complimentary drink and dance the night away.

Note: Be aware that the classic style of cockfighting practiced in Mexico ends with the killing of one of the roosters. Cockfighting is legal in Mexico and yet has been heavily debated both locally and internationally. It is considered a blood sport by its opponents, but its followers believe it to be a cultural tradition in Mexico. We are sensitive to the issues surrounding cockfighting and recognize that this tour is not suitable for everyone.

I was looking for something to do on the first night I arrived in Mexico City and this tour fitted the bill perfectly. It was a chance to see the real Mexico for the first time, having been to Cancun before. After a prompt hotel pickup, the guide was a very nice lady who spoke no English, and since I speak no Spanish and I was the only non-Spanish person among six, we somehow managed to communicate with a combination of ostentation and Google translator._br/_ The square is lovely with lots of Mariachi singers, and the show was superb, an excellent introduction to Mexican culture, although again all in Spanish. Just sit back and enjoy the experience.

This was my favorite tour in Mexico City. Even though it took place at night we went to the square and saw all of the singers and finished the night off with a folklore play that was very powerful and depicted the history of Mexico. Even though the play was in a foreign language it was easy to follow as it was Mexico through time.

My only complaint about this tour is that I thought we would spend more time viewing monuments and buildings all lit up at night, including Zocalo square. We really only went to and saw the Garibaldi square, which we walked through. Having said that, the Garibaldi square is interesting. We arrived there way too early, though, and ended up spending a lot of time in the tequila shop below the Museo de Tequila y Mezcal. It was fascinating walking through the square and seeing /hearing all the different types of Mariachi bands. Then we went and sat at a restaurant and had drinks while we watched a traditional show. The show is worthwhile, the mariachis providing the music were talented, and there were 2 male and 1 female singer that each took turns singing different Mexican songs. There was a dance troupe of 3 men and 3 women that started out doing a dance that appeared to be aztec in nature. They came out in different traditional costumes and did different types of dances 3 times throughout the evening. They were great to watch. There was even a cowboy that came out and did rope tricks! The cock fight was part of this show, and was not bloody and did not end in death, but was symbolic and very well done.

very disappointed as the guide just took us to the night club with a very mediocre mariachi show that lasted only 1 hour

Not as expected at all!! I felt at a Tourist Trap! The mariachis at the plaza were much better than the ones in the restaurant! The drink tasted really bad. I do not recommend this tour at all! Nevertheless, the guide was very gentle and attentive.

Overall positive feeling about this tour, and glad we did it. Garibaldi plaza is fun, but it is good to be in a group as you don't want to face 1000 mariachis and their drunken following alone. The show was simply hokey but still fun. My only complaint would be that once the show was over, we were put in the van and taken home. My suggestion would be to allow everybody another 30 minutes to drink/talk/socialize before going home. Guide was a likable energetic guy. Positive experience - glad we did it.

The show was awesome! Music was great and food was okay. Felt a little rushed though, plus be careful in the restaurant the waiter added 300 more pesos to our bill but, we caught it!

Too expensive for what you get, future travelers should just take a taxi from the Hotel and head to "Garibaldi de Noche" where the show takes places.
