Teotihuacan Pyramids Hot-Air Balloon Tour

Mexico City, Mexico

Experience the Teotihuacan Pyramids from a whole new angle - looking down on them from the sky! This guided hot-air balloon adventure from Mexico City is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to catch breathtaking aerial views of the City of the Gods and the Teotihuacan Pyramids. Witness the culture and heritage of Mayan Mexico like few others have before!

Welcome to the magical and incredibly colorful world of hot-air ballooning! Climb aboard one of the beautiful balloons and experience the excitement, beauty and tranquility of flying over one of Mexico's most famous landmarks and UNESCO World Heritage site, the Teotihuacan Pyramids. Enjoy the majestic aesthetic setting of the pyramids of the Sun and the Moon seen from above.

That first moment when your hot-air balloon leaves the ground is unforgettable. Each voyage becomes a personal adventure as you sail effortlessly through the sky, becoming the envy of all earthbound spectators as you enjoy panoramic views of Mexico's spectacular landscapes.

Flight duration is approximately one hour and the exact route is dictated by wind patterns. A four-wheel drive vehicle will follow below at all times, communicated by radio. After landing, the vehicle will take you to the meeting point where you'll celebrate with a glass of wine and a flight certificate, a valuable reminder of the once-in-a-lifetime experience you have just enjoyed.

If the optional guided Teotihuacan tour is selected, you'll continue to the famous archeological site to see the pyramids up close. Some must-see landmarks include the Pyramids of the Sun and Moon, the Temple of Quetzalpapalotl and the Avenue of the Dead.

Only 31 miles (50km) northeast of Mexico City are the archeological vestiges of the city of Teotihuacan itself, as well as myriad remnants of fine pottery from Teotihuacan which are today exhibited around the world.

The hot air balloon tour over the Pyramids is a definite must do for any photographer or nature lover. Seeing these ancient ruins from that perspective is a totally different experience to seeing them from the ground up. _br/_ The ride is very smooth and gives you plenty of time to take amazing photos and take in the nature and surrounds. _br/_ The early morning shadows and clear skies provide an amazing backdrop for the photos and videos._br/_ Truly an amazing experience and I am fortunate to have been able to do it.

Definitely something worth experiencing. Booked this trip on Trip Advisor through Viator and everything went off without a hitch. The ride goes up to 11,000 feet in altitude and the views are unbelievable, but from that height it can be a bit intimidating if heights make you nervous. It's kind of like being on the balcony of a really, really tall building. The ride itself may or may not go over the pyramids. You are really at the mercy of the wind. I was surprised just how little control the pilot had over the balloon and you land kind of wherever you land. If the pilot is good, it's near a road. I'd say it's slightly more dangerous than I thought it was for that reason. A few negatives, our pilot/tour guide spoke only Spanish, the tour would've cost 35 pp less if we booked it directly, and depending upon when your balloon lands, you may have to wait a long time before the bus takes you back to the city. But you get a great breakfast after the flight and all in all, I can't fault the experience. It was a lot of fun!

What a fantastic way to see the Teotihuacan Pyramids! The pilot was very knowledgeable about the Pyramids and the area, answering everyone's questions. Plus, he and the crew did a great job of getting us off the ground and back down safely. The basket holds eight, but was comfortable. You have to get up early and it's about an hour shuttle ride to the Pyramids, but it was worth it.

Fun way to see the pyramids. Nice ground crew, excellent snacks post flight

The balloon was ride was a lot of fun. We did have to wait maybe an hour before actually getting into the balloon, but that was fine. I was freezing, and they ran a blanket over to the balloon before we lifted off which was really thoughtful of them. Our tour guide for the pyramids was EXCELLENT. Knowledgeable, professional and friendly. Spoke English very well.

The air balloon flight was great! Really cool views, make sure you get the earliest flight. The drivers of the blue Dodge pick up truck are horrible. They were driving through small streets with people at speeds over 50mph. On the main road the driver went over 80mph with us riding in the basket which was just sitting on the trailer. The driver passed a car going the speed limit and on the other side of the road was a big tour bus. We barely passed the vehicle in time to not hit it head on. That was a horrible experience.

My friend nor I have ever been up in a hot-air balloon before, so no matter what this was going to be a tour for the books! Saying that, how can you beat floating over ancient pyramids and getting a view like no other? We had booked the tour with an english speaking guide, and were disappointed that one was not in fact provided for us. I would say do not rely on having an english speaking guide, but ours didn't speak much anyway he was just focused on giving us the best views possible and that was okay by us! If you want info about the pyramids with history and such, take a walking tour of Teotihuacan, and just take this tour to enjoy the magnificent views.

Wow, what an experience we had a blast. It and #39;s not everyday that you fly in a hot air balloon over an Aztec pyramid. We got pick up at the hotel were at the place in about an hour and were in the air pretty quick once we got there. Plenty of time in the balloon and view was amazing.

This tour was amazing. One gets to see the pyramids in a whole new way through a very different angle that you otherwise cannot not appreciate by foot. The aerial views are unbelievable. I would recommend this tour to everyone. Had a blast!

It was the highlight if our trip. _br/_ If you have never been in a hot air balloon you gotta try it._br/_ And if you can do it while floating serenely over ancient pyramids built before even the Aztec people's arrived in the area - all I can say us WOW._br/_ Our pilot was an expert. And safety seemed to be the local tour operator's number one concern. _br/_ But when we rose above the clouds - that was a double WOW._br/_ Viator booked us with the local tour operator

Review by:   Rahael S,    September 2015 Review: 2 star rating: It was OK, but could have been better
The trip was poorly planned and a waste of time. We were supposed to be picked up at 5am and were not picked up until closer to 6am. We were transported in a crowded van and on arrival had to wait over an hour to board our balloon. We were told the balloon should hold no more than 8 people total and they put a 9th person in it so it was packed. The operator did not speak English so we had no idea what was going on and did not realize we were landing until it happened. We did not fly over the pyramids presumably because of wind direction but had not been alerted that was a possibility and did not realize we wouldn't see the pyramids until the trip was almost over. Our balloon landed in a random field where we then had to wait 30 minutes for a truck to pick us up. There were not enough seats in the truck so several people had to ride back in the balloon which did not seem particularly safe. When we returned to the base camp we waited another 45 minutes to begin the drive back to Mexico City. All in all the trip took us from 5am until 2pm despite being in the balloon for less than an hour. Our time would have been better spent elsewhere.

The Balloon ride was a nice experience. Just had a bad experience from the local operator. At site they offer you other things to do like tour of pyramids. We thought to take that as well and they charged good amount of money. We thought it would include entry ticket as well but it did not so we ended up paying good amount for a 5 mins ride to Pyramids. So always clarify what you are getting :

This was a great tour, the only problem was they were an hour late on picking us up. I had ask for english speaking guide, poor instruction and getting us in a balloon, the van left without us and no champagne toast but had a good time.

Quite remarkable, how many balloons go up at one time (something like 25!) We never made it "over" the pyramids but hey, that's the way the wind was blowing that day. The sights were quite spectacular but keep in mind, there is no "guided tour" from the air -- you only get that from the walking portion.

This was an amazing experience! I'm glad we called and booked as the website wasn't working properly for accepting credit cards, the support staff were friendly and quick to book the trip for us, the guide arrived right on-time and was very friendly [super guy] his name is Pablo, if you get him you will feel very comfortable, and welcomed. The balloon ride was amazing and the view was stunning and very spiritual. The breakfast was also great and a nice touch to try some Mexican food ... was very good! Everyone was friendly! We also did the tour to the pyramids and walked up both the large pyramids... You will love the photos you have from the sky more for the view as not many people are out in the morning, so you really do get two totally difference experiences booking both! I will return and do this with my nephews for sure...

The pilot was great. The ride was better than imagined!! Great experience. The driver was professional and friendly. The only improvement would be in flexibility. When we called the women who answered insisted we take the shuttle to and from and living in Mexico we wanted to drive. She said it was not an option and was quite an inconvenience. The brochure did not state this was mandatory but she insisted no matter how much we tried to get her to be flexible, other than that I would highly recommend.

This experience was without a doubt the highlight of my trip. It was both worry-free and exhilarating which is the best way to travel! My cheerful, knowledgeable, kind and generally delightful guide picked me up at my hotel, and I got to enjoy an amazing balloon ride followed by a warm breakfast and a tour of the archeological site. It's hard to describe in words, but I'm still in awe. This is one for the bucket list.

As part of a three-week trip throughout central Mexico, we signed up for the Teotihuacan Pyramids Hot-Air Balloon Tour to celebrate my husband's birthday. A couple of friends also joined us and we all agreed that the hot-air balloon ride was the highlight of our entire trip!

Really very good. There were some organisation issues which are typical of Mexico but once you just relax into it all, it all goes very smoothly really. Beautiful day out and worth the money.
