Private Tour: Everglades Sightseeing at Big Cypress National Preserve
Miami, United States of America
Delve deep into Florida’s Everglades region on a 5.5-hour private tour by safari-style Jeep. With an informative guide, travel into the heart of Big Cypress National Preserve, and learn about the wetlands' wildlife, vegetation and unique geology unlike anywhere else on Earth. You'll spot birds and fish, take an exciting airboat ride, learn about the history of the World Heritage–listed Everglades region.
After morning hotel pickup in Miami, hop into a customized open-air Jeep for private adventure through the Florida Everglades.
Head west of the city toward the Tamiami Trail, going back in time 300 million years as you learn how the region's limestone geology and unique hydrogeology produced this renowned wetland area, which is not only a UNESCO World Heritage site but also a Wetland of International Importance and an International Biosphere Reserve — one of the only places on the planet to be on all three lists. During the drive, see how the ecosystems transition through marshes, swamps and forests.
Cross into Big Cypress National Preserve and jump out at the Oasis Visitor Center to take a 15-minute stroll along the boardwalk with your guide for a close-up look at alligators, birds and fish wading and swimming in the water. Learn how invasive exotic fish such as the Mayan Cichlid have damaged ecosystems in the Everglades, and continue in your Jeep along Loop Road through the preserve, listening to stories about its history and people, from Native Americans to pioneers to Gladesmen to present-day residents. You can hop out for a 10-minute rest amid the green serenity of Sweetwater Strand, keeping your eyes peeled for birds and gators galore.
Then make your way to an airboat base for a 30-minute shared ride through the wetlands with a seasoned airboat captain. Breeze through sawgrass marshes and alongside hardwood hammocks, once home to the Miccosukee Indians, and arrive at a wildlife exhibit, where you will learn more about alligators.
On the way back to Miami, learn about the efforts to protect the Everglades, which is home to more than 30 endangered species, as well as southern Florida’s precious freshwater supply. Your illuminating tour of the 'river of grass' ends with hotel drop-off.
We had a fantastic time! Miguel, our guide, was the Best!!! Thanks!

This was an exceptional tour. Great value for money. Our guide knew the history of the area thoroughly and was enthusiastic. His knowledge of and interest in the flora and fauna were fantastic and infectious. The only downside was the airport ride and this was not his fault. We did not go to hear the captain's view of President Obama!

Great guide but for the prince not worth it. At. Minimum. Simple lunch or something should be included.
