Milford Sound Scenic Cruise

Milford Sound, New Zealand

Enjoy a two hour cruise traversing the deep waters of Milford Sound, located in Fiordland. Your cruise will take you past St Anne’s lighthouse and out into the Tasman Sea. Informative guides point out scenic highlights along the way, such as the Bowen Falls (dropping 160 metres seaward), Sinbad Gully (a classic example of a hanging valley), snow-capped Mount Pembroke, and the awe-inspiring Mitre Peak itself, towering 1692 metres from the ocean floor.

Your 2-hour sightseeing cruise will depart from the Milford Sound Visitor Center.

Having a smaller launch (approximately 20 metres) allows your cruise to navigate closer to the shoreline, getting up close to the incredible surroundings. Purpose-built for Milford waters, your boat has great viewing platforms should you encounter the local fur seal colonies – once nearly hunted to extinction, the rare Fiordland crested penguins or pods of dusky dolphins.

You will traverse into the deep waters of the Milford Sound and will have a chance to enter Milford Sound from the outside, approaching it just as the first settlers did at the end of the 18th century.

With more rainfall than any other part of New Zealand, Fiordland National Park and Milford Sound provide spectacular scenery whatever the weather conditions.

Milford Sound is located at the northern most end of Fiordland National Park on the South Island of New Zealand.

It was a very wet day when we went but that was good as we got to see lots of waterfalls. Our captain got us very close to the waterfalls and we got to see a few seals. It was a lovely way to spend a few hours.

It was well organised and a pleasant trip with spectacular views. The commentary was good. We were also lucky with the weather the day we went. Suggestion is that you can do more with the coffee bar options and maybe even have it manned if it makes sense....

We loved this tour because it was on the smallest boat, which made it more flexible and close-up to waterfalls. Also we booked the first tour of the day, which meant it wasn't full, so there was much room to move around on the boat. And luckily, we had gorgeous weather, so it was pretty perfect!

What a great day out, we booked with Mitre Peak cruises because they were a smaller boat and because all the tourist buses went on the larger vessels, Great tip from a friend who previously went on this cruise, Great boat with lots of viewing areas and staff were very friendly._br/_ We went on a day when a storm came through which showed another side to Milford Sound, all the mountains were waterfalling which made our trip memorable, Could not recommend this trip enough with Mitre Peak Cruises

The day of our trip to Milford Sound it had rained continuously for over 12 hours and continued right throughout our cruise. In total 175mm of rain was deposited in Fiordland. However, this in no eay detracted from the beauty and majesty of the wonderful sights we were privileged to see. If anything it enhanced our cruise as the skipper of the boat told us that the waterfalls on one side of the Sound were only there because of the rain. Unfortunately, we were only on a little boat and the skipper had to turn it around earlier in the cruise than normal, thereby not making it into the Tasmin Sea. The weather being as it was, this was a good decision!

Had booked ahead but we missed our boat. Recommend to allow an extra 30 minutes if you drive to be on the safe side._br/_ The young man at check in was terrific. Gave us a jaffa and a she'll be right and we were on the next boat within a hour with no extra charge. We had beautiful weather and got in close to all the highlights. The driver gave very informative commentary. _br/_ I had understood no food or drink or the boat apart from the complimentary tea and coffee but that actually meant none served. Passengers are allowed to bring their own and eat on the boat which is nice if you are going out around lunchtime.

Breathtaking to say the least!!. Nature in all its glory. I booked the Mitre Peak cruises which operate a smaller boat and that turned out to be an advantage. The bigger boats dont/cant go close to the mountains on the sides. Our captain went close to the mountains...even turned around the boat to chase a pod of dolphins which was fantastic. Saw seals and penguins too. Open deck on the top was materclass. Still thrilled. Thanks guys.

Was a wonderful trip. Only 10 of us on board. Plenty of indoor and out door space to see everything. Came in close under the waterfalls and to see penguins and seals. Of course it rained but even cover outside so didn't miss anything. Really good tour. Hot cuppa and bikkies on tap all tour when have had enough of the cold. Thanks guys for a lovely afternoon out.
