Milford Sound, New Zealand
Towering peaks and cascading waterfalls - this has to be the spectacular Milford Sound. Described as the 'Eighth Natural Wonder of the World', this cruise will take you past the incredible Mitre Peak, Bowen Falls, Stirling Falls and Seal Point. See marine life in their natural environment as you discover the magic of this deep fiord.
Nestled in the World Heritage listed Fiordland National Park, Milford Sound is described as the 'Eighth Natural Wonder of the World'. The only way to truly appreciate the splendor of this area is to enjoy a spectacular Milford Sound cruise.
A cruise is the perfect way to discover the beautiful scenery of this famous fiord, including the incredible Mitre Peak, which at a height of 1,692 meters (5,560 feet), is one of the highest mountains in the world to rise directly from the ocean floor, as well as stunning waterfalls that crash down into the serene waters. Wildlife such as dolphins, seals and penguins are often seen in their natural environment. The Milford Sound cruise along the southern side of Milford Sound out to the Tasman Sea and return up the northern side, stopping at all points of interest along the way, including Bowen Falls, Stirling Falls and Seal Point.
Nice tour. The option of going to the observatory was not well explained.

This was an amazing tour. I had a fantastic time enjoying the Milford Sound Cruise. Waterfalls, Fog, Drizzles, Rough waters!! Carry a rain coat when you go on this cruise..

This tour was good. We took the 10$ breakfast option and it was worth it.

Milford Sound is absolutely beautiful, we went on a wet, drizzly day which meant the mountain tops were covered by cloud but the waterfalls were amazing and the scenery still spectacular. The boat was skillfully guided right under a waterfall which was thrilling for those of us who ventured to the bow. We had another bonus, maybe because of the rain, the sandflies didn't bother us at all.

Worth the time it took to get there. We had a day that was bright and sunny and so the experience was less dramatic than usual, but wonderful nonetheless.

Nature at its best. Got to the pickup point a little earlier to enjoy the surrounding areas of the jetty, and then the cruise itself. What a journey it was! Gorgeous waterfalls, the beautiful ocean and we were lucky enough to encounter wild dolphins making their way out to the bay. Also saw seals basking in the sun. An extremely memorable trip.

Traveling with Southern Discoveries was great. There was an unexpected hot buffet breakfast which we were not expecting. The cruise was beautiful, some great scenery and our guide was funny and gave great commentary. There was plenty of room on the boat to find your own space to take some great photos along the way. I would highly recommend the early cruise as most of the tourist haven't arrived at Milford Sound yet, so you almost get a private tour :-

Boat trip was good._br/_ Quality of the buffet lunch was a bit better than average but overpriced and was served during the first half hour of the cruise 11.00 and 11.30 am. Would have been much better to have had lunch towards the end of the cruise, closer to the traditional midday meal time.

Milford Sound is absolutely stunningly breathtaking!! I would give the location 100 stars! The tour itself was great, nice boat, decent food, and some good commentary. The only reason I wouldn't give it 5 stars was because it was hard to hear the full commentary while outside on the ship perhaps speakers not loud enough and the food was just average. Other than that, it was a beautiful trip, very peaceful and the captain got right up next to the waterfalls allowing for some phenomenal pictures!

Absolutely delightful cruise and luncheon. Professionally organised by very pleasant staff. Captain was proficient in explaining the attractions, and certainly made sure all tourists obtained maximum benefit from the experience. Would certainly do again, and will certainly recommend highly.

It was good, enjoyed it. Although the operators were the not the 'biggest', the experience was good. However, I would have liked to get options from Viator, when making the booking.

Review by: Michael N, March 2016
The torrential rains brought out the most amazing waterfall display imaginable. Water falls were everywhere! It looked like rivers of milk streaming down every crack and crevice. Mother Nature was at her finest!
Review by: Tony, February 2016
Pretty awesome trip, captain and crew were very friendly and helpful, the ship was large enough to reduce the rocking of the swells and waves, while not being too cavernous. Perfect weather Not that they could control it and the hot tea/coffee was appreciated.

Scenery was spectacular and trip a once in a lifetime trip with the rainfall and waterfalls adding to the natural beauty of the Sound. Getting onto the boat was a free for all mad dash for seats and the buffet lunch, this could have been better organized by the local company so that your trip begins in a more civilization manner.

Beautiful scenery and a very comfortable trip._br/_ I took the 9 AM cruise and was surprised that a very good breakfast was provided. I guess I did not read the fine print.
Review by: Lesley N, February 2016
It was a rainy day, we had been given no information about the journey on the only road in and out.Luckily we had given ourselves 3hrs instead of the 1hr 45mins that Google recommended. Getting a flyer from the kiosk about essential safety information is too late, once you are there i what to wear what to take, facilities ect' The furher 15mins walk to the jetty was a challenge as my husband had a leg injury, again no warning of what was expected. The cruise itself was enjoyable Mother Nature put on a good show with the rain making the waterfalls impressive. But dont expect flat water, it can be quite choppy especially when you are taken on to the Tasman Sea.Even though th scenery was awesome the journey to and from was not worth it...it takes the whole day. Tip make sure you have a full tank of petrol and expect no phone reception

The cruise on Milford Sound was amazing, it was everything I had expected. The on-board was lunch was very average. Do the cruise only.
Review by: F A L, December 2015
The weather had been awful for the previous 14 hours, torrential rain and wind. But just before our trip it cleared and we were able to see Milford Sound in all its glory. The company provided a nice buffet lunch which we sat down at ate first at a table reserved for us the rest of the trip we were up on deck seeing all the sights. Very good commentary which everyone was able to hear too!

Great helpful staff. They slotted me in for 2.00pm trip after I missed my 9.00am early starter._br/_ Picturesque views. Good value. Cannot beat the package. _br/_ Found this tour far better priced, adventurous, helpful staff and than the highly publicized, expensive, Doubtful sounds overnight cruise run by The Fiordland Navigator.
Review by: Bradley C, June 2015
The cruise was absolutely stunning! The only bad thing was that the road was closed when we got there. I understand you can update us if we call, but as someone who doesn't read the fine text, I would have liked an update via email. The road opened luckily but it was closed for 2 days before hand

Second time going with this company so it must be good! Nice comfortable boat and captain gives a good overview of the Sound and even dips into waterfalls to give passengers a fun experience. If you're lucky with the weather it impacts the enjoyment of this tour massively!

It was the best experience my husband and I have had. The crew was very helpful, We had the Buffet lunch and it was delicious and a lot of. The trip is a wonder of the world. We will be coming back with the family and when the mountains have snow on them. And that will be another experience we will have. I do recommend to for anyone todo this, if only once in your life time.

Beautiful tour of Milford Sound, clean and accommodating crew. It was amazing how close the captain could get to the waterfalls. Knowledgeable about the birds and seals etc. like getting a little history of how the sound was formed. Thanks for a delightful couple hours.

Ok trip, but not very well organized.
Review by: Davjo, February 2015
Would have been lovely boat trip only for the weather, according to one of the boat staff, your lucky to get a clear day ....1 in 5 he said... Its all down to clever marketing. So you take your chances, would we have done the long road trip if wed known, for a dreary old day out? No!
Review by: Soon E L, January 2015
Heavy rain/strong winds kept passengers inside the cruise vessel for most of the excursion. Although there's a lot more waterfalls due to the rain, did not managed to experience the tranquility of Milford Sound

Beautiful scenery and the information given during the trip was great and relevant. The only downside was the incredibly rude lady who met us at the desk. A smile doesn't cost anything!
