Moscow at Night: Small-Group Walking Tour with Annushka Tram

Moscow, Russian Federation

Hear fascinating legends of witches, ghosts, freemasons and famous criminals on this small-group walking tour of Moscow at night! Take a detour from your standard sightseeing route, riding the ‘Annushka’ tram and exploring Moscow off the beaten track with a local guide. Hear tales of sorcerers and secret worshippers as you stroll side streets and old neighborhoods, such as the infamous Khitrovka district, amid the city lights.

This tour is limited to 20 people, providing a small-group experience with your guide.

Meet your friendly local guide at the monument to Alexander Griboyedov in Chistye Prudy, a quiet residential neighborhood of pre-revolution buildings and lovely courtyards. After learning about the former author and ambassador who was memorialized in the square, walk with your small group down side streets as you listen to tales of the city at night.

Ride the legendary ‘Annushka’ tram through the busy, lighted streets of central Moscow; the original A route opened in the early 20th century and this section was restored in 1997. Head to Kitay Gorod to walk around the avenues full of traditional Russian and Soviet-era architecture, and notice the nightlife of Moscow’s best contemporary clubs.

In Khitrovka, your guide will inform your group about Moscow’s criminal activity of the 19th century, when thousands of ruffians took to the streets. Hear spooky stories about Moscow’s infamous as you visit mysterious landmarks such as Archangel Tower and the house of Bruce the Sorcerer, a naturalist and astronomer who became known as an alchemist and magician.

At Kilometer Zero, where a bronze plaque marks Moscow’s center from which all city distances are measured, toss a lucky coin as you listen to more urban legends and see Russian freemasons’ houses, secret places of worship and ‘Devil’s Place’ on Kulichki – site of the former pagan temple.

End your tour at Cheburechnaya Café, one of the few surviving Soviet pubs, named for the cheburek – a fried turnover traditionally stuffed with meat. Take in the communist-era atmosphere as you drink a tumbler of Russian beer or sample something to eat (own expense).

Excellant. Lovely informative guide who spoke perfect English. Took us to sites and areas we probably wouldn't have thought to visit ourselves. Guide also gave us general advice about other places/areas of interest to visit. Worth every penny and then some. Moscow must be visited at night it's so interesting and beautiful.

Low key but fun tour around some of Moscow's lesser known parts. Nice to see real community events going on and also old printing office being reborn as local clothing store. Elena was a gem, and her stories of serial killers and so on were great. Fun to finish on an old tram with real Muscovites doing their own thing, and tour finishes in a cool area with lots of bars and eateries. Worth doing.

we started the tour just after the hurricane. Bad luck, no tram trip possible. Good luck, we were only two guests, had possibility to discuss / place questions. She the guide had thorough knowledge of the region, also very motivated to tell us everything. Recommend.

Wasn't able to take this tour in December as I had hurt my leg and couldn't walk. However, I took this tour the previous summer and it was great.

This was a great way to see a part of Moscow that most tourists don't visit. We LOVED our guide she was knowledgeable and funny and helped everyone find a good place to eat after the tour. I only wish she told MORE stories we didn't hear about free masons and sorcerers, and sadly did not end at the Soviet era pub. Otherwise, my husband and I thought it was wonderful despite the cold!

I had a Sunday evening to fill in Moscow before a morning train to St. Petersburg, and this was a nice way to get a feel for a different side of the city. The tour departed from a statue in the park outside the Kitay-Gorad metro, which was great since I had spent the afternoon nearby. About 8 people had signed up for a Sunday evening. Our guide, Vicky, was a fun and free-spirited young woman who spoke excellent colloquial English although I pointed out to her that hunky-dory is not a current expression, and I added awesomesauce to her vocabulary!

Had a great tour with Elena, at the end of april.2016. Short but comprehensive, lots of fun facts and interesting information. I felt great all the time, the guide answered each and every of my questions without hesitation. I strongly recommend for everyone looking to get out of Moscow's most touristical areas and feel the vibe of the city and how it turned into what it is now.

The tour was good and interesting. Since we had not the best weather conditions minus 16 degrees, it was very very cold. The tour will be certainly better in summer.

We were disappointed at the unprofessional attitude of the guide. She arrived 7 minutes later and then left to buy Metro tickets. The walk was conducted at a fast pace and finished 15 minutes early. Nevertheless she was knowledgeable about the history of the areas we visited and had interesting anecdotes about the people who had lived and were living there. She also gave good advice about further involvement in the entertainment areas.

Tour guide, a young woman...arrived late, she did not speak English very well, nor could she understand English very well, we tried to communicate...but it did not go very far, so that was frustrating.....she didn't quite know what to do with us...took us to some places where it was the dark, some back streets... but it wasn't very interesting...there was extra time at the end, disappointment!
