Behind-the-Scenes Brewery and Beer Tour in Munich

Munich, Germany

Whether you’re in Munich for Oktoberfest or just want to experience its famous beer scene, this behind-the-scenes beer tour will give you the inside scoop of one of the city’s most renowned breweries. Beer brewing is an art in Germany, a centuries-old tradition that you’ll learn about with an experienced guide. Tour several breweries, meet the master brewers and enjoy a beer sample accompanied by a fresh Bavarian pretzel.

Meet your guide in central Munich and then head by coach to your first brewery of the day, either Spaten, Franziskaner or Löwenbräu. When you arrive, meet experienced brewmasters who will tell you all about the brewery's history and Germany’s beer culture.
Learn how the beer is brewed according to the original Bavarian ‘Order of Purity,’ which follows the Bavarian Purity Law enacted in 1516 by Duke Wilhelm IV of Bavaria. This law ended ‘experimenting’ with ingredients and ensured that what went into beer was simple and restricted – only barley, hops, water and yeast.

Enjoy tours of each brewery to see sights like their malting towers, brewhouses, fermenting tanks, beer cellars and wells. Then you’ll finally get what you’ve been waiting for – a beer tasting! While you sample the beer, you’ll also enjoy a fresh Bavarian pretzel.

This tour is a scam. The tour claims you will visit multiple breweries for behind the scenes looks. However, it turns out that several brands three are brewed at the same location and they consider that multiple breweries. In addition, they are all owned by mega-conglomerates and it is just a lot of marketing. We signed up for the tour in English, on the day of the tour it was half German and half English. The German speakers were treated extremely better than the English speakers more anecdotes were told in German and I felt our guide felt a burden when needing to followup with the English speaking group. As a result, this makes the English speaking group wait their turn and then have less time to explore -- I even mentioned this to the tour guide because we had substantially less time to view the bottling line which is by far the neatest part of the tour!. Our guide shrugged and kept moving us along. Lastly, the tour was to include a souvenir bottle opener, which was not handed out, nor was the guide even understanding us when we asked about it at the end.

Our Gray line tour guide was very knowledgeable but the guide at the brewery was not very customer-focused. The beer and pretzel tasting was the best part.

The tour that we received did not meet the description provided what so ever. My husband and I booked this tour because the tour was supposed to be a tour of several breweries and see their beer-making facilities, including fermenting tanks and malting towers. Specifically, the description states that you will visit Spaten, Franziskaner and Löwenbräu and that the tours will be led by experienced master brewers.

When we presented our vouchers to the guide working, she told us the tour was full and that we wouldn't be able to attend even though we purchased the tickets prior. They did allow us to join, but there were only 5 of us that spoke English with a group on 30 who spoke German.

Very interesting. We learnt a lot about beer making and enjoyed drinking it as well! Good fun.

The tour took a short trip around Munich city center while the guide told about the origins of the beer culture and octoberfest in Munich and Bavaria. After that we were led on an extensive tour through the Spaten brewery followed by a beer tasting session in the tower of the brewery the highest lookout point in Munich open to public. The tour was very informative and enjoyable, and recommendable to all who like history and beer.

The tour didn't go to Paulaner as advertised, since they are in the process of moving their brewing operations to a new location, and we didn't find this out until we boarded the tour bus. The tour guide was Rainer exceptional, and he showed us the locations of the Big 6 breweries in town. Giesinger Braü was a really nice stop as an alternative to Paulaner, but it would've been nice to know this in advance.

Positives: Tour Guide was very friendly and had good style of delivering information, Master Brewer we met was also informative and has good knowledge of his beer and beer in general

Our tour guide was great but we got taken to a Munich microbrewery instead of Paulaner. Also, the tour was only 1.5 hours long instead of the 3 hours on the description. After the microbrewery tour, the bus drove by the Paulaner brewery and let people get off so we still had a chance to see the brewery we signed up for. Not a bad experience but different enough from the description that everyone in our tour group wondered if we were even in the right tour.

My husbands favorite beer is Paulaner which is why I booked this tour. Once we checked in and got on the bus, only upon mentioning being excited about the Paulaner tour were we informed by the guide that it was no longer a Paulaner tour but a craft brewery in Munich. It ended up being an okay tour but not what we signed up and paid for. very disappointing.

The tour was very informative and gave a real insight into the history and process of the brewery. The only negative was that the tour wasn't as advertised. When buying the package it says we will be given a pretzel and souvenir bottle opener, not of these were given to anyone on our tour group. Need to provide this service if you are offering it in the price.

This was good but a bit confusing when we arrived and we're plied with beer for an hour before walking round the rest of the brewery. Not that we minded but it would have been nice to be told what was going on.

The brewery tour was fantastic. Could not have been happier. However the guide on the bus to and from the brewery was giving the group a tour of the city centre which did not interest many guests. It was then very difficult to hear as people were talking over the guide.

The tour was good and informative. Although the tour was in German and English, the bus tour guide favored dialog in German over English, for every five minutes he talked in German, there was 30-45 seconds of English. So, much of the information that was being provided, was not provided to English speaking customers. Additionally, we were to have been given a bottle opener as a souvenir form the brewery tour, but it was not given out.

We had a very knowledgeable tour guide. Also all you can drink for 45 minutes before the tour starts. Doesn't get any better.

My wife and I were somewhat apprehensive about taking a beer-related group bus tour in Munich. We were worried that it may be a little too "touristy" and that we would not get anything out of it. We only took the tour because of a dead spot in our schedule and it had good reviews on Viator. It turned out to be one of our best experiences in Munich. To our surprise, the overwhelming majority of the participants were German so the bus ride alone was an immersion into German culture. The guide on the bus tour was very knowledgeable of Munich and the history of beer.

Tour was great while on the bus. Tour of brewery was only conducted in German, which left me missing out on 70+% of the commentary. Beer tasting was a good experience, but again missed out on the finer points of the commentary. Had this been conducted in English or both German and English, I am certain that i would have rated this considerably higher.

Interesting tour about the history of the beer. You start off with a 40 minute beer tasting (open bar) so it is quite possible to get your money out of the tour there alone. Extremely knowledgable staff and the English tour was lead by a native speaker which makes it that much more enjoyable and easy to learn from.

I've been around quite a few breweries and know quite a bit about the brewing process. On the whole I didnt find this tour to be particularly interesting but in fairness this view is not shared by my son who rated the tour more highly than me. The tour to the site was well organised and we saw the sites of other breweries and landmarks in Munich which was a bonus if you hadn't already seen them.

I have visited many US breweries, and while the process is the same, the history of this tour is impressive. Must do for any brew fan.

For beer enthusiasts this is a great tour._br/_ It starts with a sample or two of the Paulaner beers and pretzels....strange to start with the samples but got everyone relaxed and eager to see the brewery._br/_ I would suggest to go during the week when the bottle lines are running but overall a fun couple of hours._br/_ A shame that you don't get to finish the tour in the gift shop as I'm sure plenty of people would have made purchases.
