Delos Day Trip from Mykonos

Mykonos, Greece

Uncover the archaeological drama of Delos on a half-day tour from Mykonos. With a local guide, you'll cruise over the sea to the UNESCO-listed sacred island, and explore its main excavation site on a walking tour. Hear  about the island in the days of Ancient Greece, and admire highlights of the excavations including the Terrace of the Lions, House of Dionysus, Archeological Museum of Delos and more. An upgrade is also available to include hotel pickup from Mykonos hotels.

Start your tour with a pickup from your Mykonos hotel, or make your own way to the port to meet your guide and group. Then, hop aboard your ferry and relax as you cross a stretch of the Aegean Sea to the nearby island of Delos. Now listed as a UNESCO World Heritage site, the  island is believed to be the birthplace of the Greek gods Apollo and Artmenis and boasts ruins that date back to Ancient Greece.

Cruise into the harbor, board your coach, and travel to the main excavation site where a staggering collection of relics awaits. On a walking tour with your guide, make your way around the agora, the ancient market place where merchants from neighboring countries would meet. Stroll past the Sacred Lake, pose for photos by the Terrace of the Lions — one of the island’s best-known sights — and gaze in awe at the ruined grandeur of Delos’ ancient theater.

See old living quarters, such as the House of Dionysus, that hint at the daily lives of islanders in bygone days, and hear tidbits of enthralling Ancient Greek history that puts the sights into historical context. After viewing the Temple of Isis, a sculpture of an Egyptian goddess and various Roman water cisterns, head inside the Archeological Museum of Delos to browse an array of mosaics, statues and other artifacts found during excavations on the island.

After your walking tour finishes, hop back inside your minibus and return to the port to catch your ferry back to Mykonos where your tour will come to an end.

It was generally a good tour as everything was planned properly. The guide was okay, but not very engaging. Most likely this is the weakness of going in a big group tour.

Once the tour started it was great, but the transfer from the hotel and getting onboard the boat to Delos was terrible. I really shouldn't have booked the transfer, it was late coming, and then dropped us off , with minimal instruction on how to proceed, and just as far to walk to where the ferry was as our hotel was. Not at all happy about that. Also not obvious how to get tickets to get aboard, eventually it all worked out, but with only 5 minutes to spare before the boat left. Getting off the boat at Delos again it was not clear what to do, however after a couple of minutes our guide arrived and after that everything was wonderful.

Our tour guide Effie was exceptional. We had a booking for 7 people and we all enjoyed the tour. Effie was very keen to share a lot of interesting facts about Delos. Delos is an amazing place I am glad I booked this tour. The ferry trip there and back was lovely. Highly recommend.

We had a great day on Delos. The tour was very informative and extensive, lasting more than two hours. I learned a lot about Greek history and mythology. It was amazing to see the frescos and the lions guarding the birthplace of Apollo. We also took the opportunity to stay and catch the 3:00 boat back to shore. Would highly recommend this tour!

Tour group too large, not exactly sure where to pick up tickets, and entrance fee to museum should be included in price. Otherwise the tour was good and our tour guide was very good.

DO NOT BOOK WITH MTM!_br/_ They didn't show up!_br/_ Not answering emails and neither to the phone._br/_ We were helped by the main local company that runs the Delos tours which over the unfullfilled service._br/_ The site was spectacular and the guide Maria was great, but in figuring things out we lost 2 hours that would have make it a perfect experience.

Elelisa sp? was an awesome, friendly and personable guide. Her descriptions of Delos and its daily life came to life as we walked through the community. She highlighted significant aspects of the excavation and gave suggestions for further exploration on our own including the museum and the temples further up on the hill. Elelisa's depth of knowledge was evident as she explained so much that the time flew and before we were ready, the tour had come to an end. Her English was excellent. We enjoyed our tour and would recommend this guide.

Visiting the sacred island of Delos was honestly the only reason I bothered going to Mykonos! I have an archaeology background, and have been obsessed with Greek mythology and history since I was a very young child, so Delos was THE place for me to see. Delos was all I dreamed of, and more. I had no idea just how many ruins there were on the island. I wanted to lose my return ferry sticker so I could stay with the archaeologists still working there. Our guide was terrific - she had ready answers to all questions, and a good sense of humor. Definitely book this unique experience!

My 3 friends and I recently booked this tour while we were in Mykonos so that we could see a bit of culture, rather than just partying, and thoroughly enjoyed going to Delos. Our tour guide, Efi, I think, was very knowledgeable, friendly, and even made us laugh a lot. She took us through all the main sites of Delos and answered all of our questions. I also thought the duration of this tour was perfect. Be aware that Mykonos and Delos are very windy places, so the boat ride can be an adventure in of itself! The only feedback I have is that it was a bit confusing as to where we showed our Viator vouchers. I ended up calling the tour company to find out where in Mykonos we were supposed to go. Other than that, this tour was great!

We enjoyed our trip to Delos, and the tour operator who picked us up from the hotel to take us to the port was prompt and helped make our trip hassle free. We would definitely recommend a guide for making the whole experience more meaningful. We learned much more this second time by having a guide than by doing it on our own. Well worth it.

The tour on Delos was excellent. However getting to the ferry to go to Delos was very stressful. We confirmed our arrival ahead but the person meeting us was not there when we arrived. We came into the new cruise port and had to go to the old port. When we got there, there was no one to meet us. I made several calls to the local company and was told to walk over to the ferry dock at the opposite end of the port. We had no tickets and no one there seemed to know who we should contact. We finally went to get on the ferry and were told to go back to the ticket booth. Finally the local contact was at the booth and we got our tickets -20 minutes prior to departure. Once that hassle was over the tour went smoothly. The guide on Delos was excellent and we enjoyed our day.

Excellent side tour from Mykonos that's not to be missed. You don't need to take the round trip hotel pickup if you are staying close to the Old Port or Windmills. It was a short 20 minute walk from my hotel.Highly recommended

The guide added a lot to the tour. The meeting spot was confusing and the guide didn't try to find people from our group on the boat to Delos we had to ask around and find her.

We booked this tour last minute while on our cruise, and were very glad we did. Mykonos was a beautiful stop on our cruise itinerary with its whitewashed labyrinth of homes and stores, but we are really glad we took this side excursion to this ancient island. After we docked and took a short water taxi ride, we spent the morning touring around Delos with our guide, Efi. She was very knowledgeable and brought life to the ancient ruins of this amazing island for us. We commented a number of times how having an exceptional guide really makes for a fun excursion. We have a number of stories that we continue to reflect back on...Did you know that the Cyclades group of islands in the Aegean sea comes from the word, Circle, which comes from the Greek word 'kyklos' that form around the island of Delos. so many fun parallels from a favorite movie of ours. Highly recommend this very fun and informative excursion.

Absolutely terrible. I showed up to the port at 9:15am and by 9:55am no tour guide was to be found. I had to buy my own ticket and head on the boat to go see the site myself.

We missed the tour because your directions were not clear enough all it said to be on the pier by 9:30 but it did not say that it was the old pier. Our ship arrived at what they called the new dock so we waited and waited and no one showed up.

Once we made it to the boat all went smoothly. Up to that point it was a bit frustrating. First you need to confirm the pickup a day ahead. We never received an email response when we tried to do that. Our hotel receptionist made a call to confirm. The driver who picked us up dropped us at a parking lot with no further explanation of the Delos boat location, departure time or need to redeem tickets with our voucher. Rocky start.

Great Trip! but would've been better if a Greek speaking guide could be booked as an alternative - would definitely recommend this day tour. The boat ride is great there and back about a hour trip there and back. If travelling in summer you need a hat and water with you although there is a cafe store there to buy refreshments. Also flat shoes and comfortable clothing is important.

very fascinating but we had to cut it short as we needed to be back on the boat and the longer tour that we had booked would have left it to close to embarkation and we would not have seen anything else on Mykonos.

Excellent - one of the highlights of our trip. Our guide Marilou or something like that sorry! was really incredible. Intelligent, passionate and funny - she made the ruins come alive with both history and anecdotes, even weaving in current politics and religion. Her background as an archaeologist really shined. Absolutely loved the tour, especially because of our tour guide. Well worth the half day trip to lean of the incredible history. Delos can be very hot, so be prepared with water and hats and sunscreen. Advise taking the larger ferry if the seas are stormy. The smaller ferry on the way back was akin to Mr. Toad's Wild Ride in very windy and choppy seas - a bit scary at times crossing the channel as the the tiny ship was tossed, and it didn't help that there was only one life preserver on board for the captain???!!. I suppose this must be the Greek way, but it was a little unnerving. Made it back safe, and have a story to tell : Notwithstanding, would still recommend. The guide was excellent.

Splendid tour with a first rate leader. _br/_ Aside from presenting well and knowing a great amount, she was tremendously helpful to me._br/_ I have various medical problems including balance, and she kept me up and moving. Her name is something like Marilou and she is first rate. We also enjoyed the museum greatlyl

A good exploration of the island of Delos and the religious significance the island played in early civilization. More of half day tour, however, as we were back in Mykonos by 3, and didn't leave until 10 am. Getting a hold of the representatives for the tour, however, proved difficult over e-mail, as they provided no information about the meeting place it is at the Old Port at a booth near the end of the dock

The ferry ride to and from Delos was as expected. The tour guide was fabulous. My only critique was with the additional service I purchased hotel pick up and drop off. The bus was prompt at the hotel, but dropped us off very far from the ferry location, and the driver was unable to tell us where to get the ferry and how the process worked checking in at the kiosk, etc. We had a person in our party that has walking challenges, and had we known that the hotel pick up / drop off was as inconvenient was it was, I would not have purchased it for an additional fee.

This was a wonderful half day trip. Bad sttuff first: We were picked up at our hotel though the driver was nearly 30mins late picking us up, and dropped off at the port where we then had to find our own way to the proper dock and boat about a 15min walk around the harbour. Good part: Delos was beautiful and it was mindblowing being in the midst of an entire city of ruins. You could almost imagine what it would have been like back in its heyday. I wish we could have had more time to explore the island but the tour guide was very knowledgeable and welcoming and provided us with a lot of good information regarding the historical significance of Delos and what life may have been like back then.

I would recommend walking to the port yourself and inquiring about the ferry and guided tour to Delos on your own. The company who this was booked through was difficult to work with when pick- up was late, no tour guide was given until you reached Delos, and there was no one to drop me off back at the hotel.

No representative met us at the dock. Didn't know where we were going. Had to get in a long line to redeem voucher. Voucher said just get on the boat but that was not correct. Once on the island we were hearded into a huge group of at least 50 people. Not what we were expecting.
