You'll drive through the town of Torre del Greco to Vesuvius National Park, then hike to the summit of Vesuvius to take a walk around the eerie crater at 3,900 feet (1,200 meters). Remember to wear comfortable walking shoes! A medium to high level of fitness is required to complete the climb.
From the summit, the panoramic views of the Bay of Naples have captivated visitors for centuries. Then, peer down into the depths of the crater to see plumes of steam issuing from the sleeping, but still active, volcano.
Have lunch in a typical Italian pizzeria to enjoy a pizza and a soft drink (included).
After that return to your coach and travel back to Naples. Your tour finishes at the start point in the afternoon.
Please save yourself the money and go your self yourself. The bottom line is that when the weather is horrendous rain, wind, cloud, snow this tour should NOT be ran. - But they take this risk! We were so apprehensive and worried as to why the tour continued, we had an awful experience with this company, did not see one thing and were told the whole time normally you can see this, but not today Infact the weather was that terrible I could not see my partner yards in front of me. I understand the weather is unpredictable and this is nobodys fault but as a large company, the morning of this tour they should have CANCELLED the tour for everybodys safety and Italian experience. The man who worked in the shop of the Volcano even told us he did not know why people were allowed to come up as it had been closed and just reopened due to that they thought the weather was going to be better - they were mistaken. It was dangerous, scary and a complete waste of time. Please find an alternative way to do this tour and do not book far in advance because if you get bad weather they will still continue the trip in dangerous conditions, take your money and you will be worried, you will NOT see one thing, no crater, no view, not even the person you are with.

The tour was great and above expectations with knowledgeable guides. What really took it over the top was the unfortunate fact that the summit was closed due to safety concerns of excessive winds blowing visitors and Viator offered refunds or retrips the next day. Thank you for a great experience.

Great experience to go up Vesuvius however, the coach was far too hot (air conditioning!? What air conditioning?) The guide was not a tour guide; she pointed out 2 things on our drive up to Vesuvius, that's it! Not enough time to climb up the volcano either.

Had they been telling us how the tour will be handled we shouldn't have booked this tour. Instead of taking us direct to Mt Vesuvius, they collected us from Naples at 12.30, drove to Pompeii and handed over to one lady. After 10 min walking and 15 min waiting on the road side, she handed over us to another lady. Again walking for some 15 min in the sun, she herded us into a restaurant for a useless pizza I have never eaten such a bad margherita before ! No choice! and around 45 min waiting! Then, again walking to the parking lot and finally boarded the bus._br/_ At the base of Mt Vesuvius we were told you have one hour to go up and come back!! Overall a horrible experience. I advice people to use Circum Vesuviana to conveniently enjoy your trip.

A van picked me up at the designated location in Naples and transported me and others to have lunch at a restaurant near the Pompeii ruins. Afterwards, we boarded a much larger tour bus with another tour group for Mt. Vesuvius. We were given a time limit to walk up to the summit by ourselves, and they transported us back to Naples afterwards. It was windy and rainy that day so it dampened the mood a bit. Lunch at Pompeii was mediocre. The guide on the bus did give a small introduction about Mt. Vesuvius. I find that the only plus to this tour is the convenience of transportation to and from Naples. However, I also found out that people can go to Ercolano Herculaneum and book a tour to Mt. Vesuvius form there. I am not sure though of the cost and quality of those tours.

Fantastic experience with incredible views from the top of the Amalfi Coast, Naples and Capri, the crater has smoking fumerols and the Broom plants that covered the volcano smelled amazing.

On the description of this tour, it says the duration is 3 hours. It is not. The bus arrived at my hotel an hour before the scheduled time and the tour is in fact around Six hours. I had to leave after lunch because of my flight. This needs to be better organized.

This was incredible. However, I would strongly advise that the trek up up to the summit is not for the faint hearted. Because the path is extremely steep and long, a certain amount of fitness is necessary._br/_ I don't think that the lunch included in the package is necessary, however it was very tasty and the setting at the restaurant was lovely.

The directions need to be clearer when being picked up from the train station. We waited for 30 min for an unmarked bus in an area that is surrounded by busses. _br/_ Lunch was good. The tour guide was nice. She spoke a bit about M.Ves on the bus but it was very minimal. Paying mostly for transportation.

The view at the top is fantastic. There were a combination of guides at different times and it was a reasonably large group, however I had no issue hearing the guide. Air conditioned transport was perfect as it was an awfully hot day. The pizza meal to start the tour was a real treat.

The lunch was not good margherita pizza with almost no cheese, the guide did not gave to much informations/curiosities and we had very few time at the top of Vesuvius. Totally recommend the trip to Vesuvius, but if you can do it by yourself you will probably enjoy more and spend less.

The bus that picked us up had no AC, which wouldn't matter if it has windows that went down, bus driver was very friendly and apologetic. Excellent pizza at the restaurant!! The tour guide was funny and friendly. You don't get to learn much about the history of Vesuvius, but it was overall a great tour that I would recommend!!

I booked this tour a week in advance after first checking that the weather forecast was for a sunny day. Of course, on the day the forecast was wrong and we were unlucky to have cloudy, drizzly weather. However, this is not the reason for my low rating. At the restaurant our guide assured everybody not to worry - because of the weather, he said, we would not be able to enjoy the views over the bay but the crater was above the cloud and was clear. Of course it wasn't. It was completely shrouded in mist and we saw nothing. The disappointment for me was that during the bus trip up the guide said very little and gave virtually no insight into the history of the volcano. Most people were disappointed with the weather and I felt the guide could at least have used some enthusiasm to brighten the mood a bit. Then when we arrived at the gate to the Vesuvius National Park the guide announced, almost with relief I sensed, that, happily, the gate was open. Really? What would have happened if we'd got there to find it closed? It was clear the guide did not know the conditions at the top. Of course, we are disappointed that the tour did not work out as expected because of the weather, however, at least my wife and I can now claim that we've been to the top.

Return was a problem. Bus was not able to leave in time to return us to the cruise ship._br/_
We were loaded onto a van which hurried in order to arrive at the port before the ship sailed._br/_
If we were left on the bus we would have been left behind as the ship would have sailed.

Las vistas desde la cima valen la pena. La subida al volcán es un poco difícil y casi no da tiempo a descansar hay que estar en buena condición física para hacerlo en el tiempo que te dejan. Todo muy puntual y buen servicio así como el almuerzo. El guía muy simpático aunque se limita a acompañarte en el bus y no te da casi información. El tour simplemente te soluciona el tranporte lo cual no es sencillo en ese lugar.

The initial walk up Mount Vesuvius was a little strenuous, but after the first 10 minutes or so, you will get used to it and it gets easier. Of course, the fitter you are, the easier it will be. Especially if you walk up hills or mountains regularly.

After reading various reviews about the fitness levels required for climbing Vesuvius, I was extremely apprehensive about taking my 65 year old, rather overweight Mother on this trip. However, although it is pretty hard going at times, we made it with no problems and I certainly wouldn't class myself as "fit" either! My only complaint about the trip is that it is so rushed. We were given just 90 minutes to get up the Volcano and back down to the bus. The tour guide was lovely and very funny, but didnt actually tell us anything about the history of Vesuvius and just kept repeating that we needed to be back at the bus by 4.30... If we had longer to do the trek then it would have been amazing. Even just half an hour more would have meant being able to walk up a little slower then have longer to take in the views at the top. But I would still recommend this trip, just dont expect to have very long at the top!

I found the tour rushed, arrived at Pompeii first stop lunch then driven to site to be told maximum stay at top of vesuvius was 30 mins and it takes 30 mins to climb to the top and 15 mins to return to coach, that's OK if everyone is under 30 and a physical trainer, it does not allow time for older people to climb the slopes to the top maybe have a drink or to catch their breath, it can take 45 minutes to walk round the top and take in the veiws, history etc. Maybe a little more thought for those over 30.

This is not for the fainthearted; the trek to the summit can be gruelling should one not be wearing the right footwear and have drinking water. The tour on the other hand was good with a very knowledgeable tour guide. The views from the summit are amazibg and there is that sense of achievement having made it to the top.

It will be a challenging walk to the top after you get off of the bus, which takes you most of the way up. We went in June so it was very hot, which made it harder. It was well worth it though. The bus needed to be cooler. Be sure to bring water for the trek up. There are shops at the top where you can purchase drinks, snacks, and souvenirs.

I'm sure this tour would have been nice, but the weather was terrible and we couldn't see anything. It would be nice if the tour operator offered another day. I know weather is difficult to control, but this was a wast for us. In retrospect I would do an adhoc tour for this depending on the weather.

Hello, the excurtion was excellent. But the excurtion was postponed from 1215 to 1245. The result of this was that I had to buy a new train ticket back to Rome, 45euros.

I wouldn't do the tour. The guide was terrible, didn't tell us anything about Mt Vesuvius and we did the hike alone . The bus was from the ancient times and the a/c didn't work which made it a "joy" after doing the hike

Fantastic opportunity to see the crater of Vesuvius. Be aware you are taken to the Pompeii ticket area first, so if coming from Naples or Amalfi be prepared for a lengthy wait there before you join the main group up the mountain.

The guides don't really do much except drive you up 2/3 of the mountain, drop you off as they wait in the car. You have 20 minutes to walk up, 20 minutes to walk around at the top of Mt Vesuvius, and 20 minutes to walk down. It wasn't that grand of an experience.

We did get some information about the area and Vesuvius on the way up, which was interesting. It was a good hike up anf it was pretty amazing to see. I am glad I went but I am not certain a person or small group couldn't find their own transportation and accomplish the same thing. Not enough time is allowed for this. You have to hustle up to the top, look quick and get right back down.

We were picked up on time however were driven to pompeii to pick up the guide and other people going up Vesouvious who had had an earlier alternative tour. Unfortunately we were then left sitting in the mini bus for half an hour in a car park waiting for them to finish lunch. Very unorganised.

If you plan on seeing Pompeii and Herculaneum you should see Vesuvius as well. Amazing views of the region and a chance to see an active (if currently very placid) volcano. Our guide was excellent and very entertaining and the driver was very good as well (believe me you want that). Worth the climb.

A good trip. Had a great private mini-bus/Mercedes - had to travel to Pompeii to pick up others. Door-to-door service with polite driver and guide during journey up the mountain. Would have liked an extra 15 minutes to complete the full available trip around the crater.
