Small-Group Airboat Swamp Adventure and Plantation Tour from New Orleans

New Orleans, United States of America

Get ready for an exhilarating two-hour airboat ride deep into secluded bayous in Cajun Country. You will see all sorts of wildlife on your journey - alligators, giant catfish and nutrias. Then, continue onto Destrehan Plantation for a glimpse into the historic past of New Orleans. The small-group atmosphere with maximum 13 people ensures a more personal experience.

First, you will ride out to the quaint and remote Cajun Village close to Paradis, LA for a thrilling high-speed ride onboard small airboats, comfortably gliding over marshes, deep into secluded bayous for approximately 2 hours. You may even get to hold a baby alligator, feed giant catfish, or meet a nutria face to face.

Then, travel to the Destrehan Plantation for a guided tour. This historic plantation, on Louisiana's Old River Road, is a lavishly restored Greek Revival antebellum mansion. Here you will have free time to enjoy lush gardens and majestic live oaks.

This is definitely the way to see the swamps in the New Orleans area. Our guide provided an exciting but safe ride full of alligators, scenery, and stories. The 6 of us had a fabulous time.

Such a great experience. Would do this again in a second. Our driver was knowledgeable, respectful of the environment, kid focused pictures with alligators! and obviously loved what he does. The Plantation Tour part was interesting but really didn't come alive for us. I think our tour guide was new.

We found the plantation tour very good with a great guide who gave excellent explanations with a good mixture of humour. The swamp tour was exciting especially meeting 'Francois' the alligator. My only complaint there was no where to buy a good lunch only snacks. Came back somewhat hungry!

The small-group was not really small. The airboat swamp tour took place in a big boat with 12 persons. I paid a higher price to have the chance to do it in a small group but they put together two groups...so little bit of disappointment. A part from this nice tour.

Great fun. We came across little gators but unfortunately not much else. Once the boat got up some speed it was fun. The plantation visit was interesting.

We had a wonderful time. The tour guide was exceptional. The weather was extremely hot! Yet, the guide went out of his way to ensure that we had a great airboat ride! Our driver was also exceptional. The entire ride to and from the plantation and swamp he provided historical information on the city he loved! Highly recommended.

This was a great tour. The people at the tour company Isabella Tours are true professionals. Their van was very nice and they were prompt on the pickup at the hotel. Katha was our guide and she is an expert at her craft. I would recommend this to anyone.

Brilliant trip on the small airboat and would certainly recommend this company. Loads of gators and birds and beautiful scenery as you travel through the swamps surrounded by moss covered trees. Good fun.

Excellent tour. On the first part of the tour, Plantation and its history were fascinating. We were able to see a lot of alligators on the second part of the tour, but really alligator sightings depend on time of year.

Review by:   mander41,    February 2017 Review: 2 star rating: It was OK, but could have been better
The airboat ride was fun. Our guide was OK but I would have liked him to stop and talk with us more than once. Disappointed because we paid for a small group tour, ended up on a larger group tour and boat than we wanted. Make sure when you confirm day before it and #39;s a small group and boat.

Loved this tour. No problems with pick up at our hotel. Being a small group the tour worked very well. Our guide Kat was friendly and knowledgeable. Plantation tour was very good and informative the tour guide there was fantastic. Airboat tour was sensational ...if you get the same boat driver as we had be prepared to get close and personal with his favorite alligators!!! We would definitely recommend this tour.

Our tour was okay but started on a very sour note. Having signed up for the Small Group Tour we were in a large boat carrying 13 patrons. While our guide was wonderful and our group a great bunch the feeling lacked the closeness of small group and the boat could not go to all the places a small boat could. Frankly I feel mislead.

This was a highlight of our stay in New Orleans. Captain Gary made it fun and the cruise into the swamps will be one of my best memories of New Orleans. Even had an alligator swim to the boat._br/_ More time was needed at the plantation. It was interesting and we would have enjoyed more of the history.

I only did the airboat ride of this tour and it was absolutely awesome!!!!!! My airboat guide was very knowledgeable and made sure everyone had a great time.

The small airboat was the way to go and we had an excellent captain. Gary had spent his life on and around the swamp and this was evident in his abundant knowledge. We had lots of laughs and enjoyed the peacefulness when the motor stopped running. Thank you Gary for your environmentalist views as well and the perfect tour

A great experience in a group of only 7 of us. _br/_ The air boat ride was a highlight of our trip meeting our guide and driver/ pilot Garry who was fun and knowledgable, entertaining us with his local knowledge and very funny tales._br/_ I would highly recommend the airboat tour, the plantation house is a must, it is an important part of this areas history.

Captain Gary was courteous and was able to show us a lot about the swamp. Joni and I had a great time and will do this again the next time we get down there. We were able to see gaters and a lot of birds. We also got to see several Nutrea.

The airboat tour was amazing! Captain Gary was experienced and Knowle able. Even got to hold a little female gator! Plantation tour was a bit of an anticlimax but gave a feel for plantation life in beautiful surroundings.

The Swamp/Bayou trip was AMAZING!! Loads of Alligators and the Captain was a kick in the pants! He caught a small alligator and we all got to hold it. _br/_ The Plantation was pretty, but the tour was a bit boring.

Oh Captain Monkey....great experience despite it being the wrong season for lots and lots of gators. Captain Monkey found us lots of gators and other beautiful things to look at, seriously great fun and sooooo educational. The passion and respect for the environment was just amazing.....don't miss this one.

Our tour guide, Dylan, was awesome! He was very prompt and friendly. We learned so much about the city, in an entertaining way. The plantation was great and was hosting a fall festival, so we got way more than we planned for! The air boat/swamp tour was amazing and beautiful. I would recommend this tour to anyone!

Great tour, the guide on the air-boat was areal character and was a laugh a minute. The plantation tour guide was very knowledgeable and gave us a real insight to life on the plantation._br/_ Ellen the lady from Isabelle tours who picked us up from the hotel was also very knowledgeable and give us many ideas of things to do in New Orleans._br/_ Great day out ,well worth the money.

Our driver/guide was very informative. Ellen drove well and kept up the banter. The airboat rides were exciting and beautiful. Capt. Gary gave us a most memorable ride thru the swamp. Saw lots of gators! Great day trip. The Plantation tour was historically informative. Our guide there, Ellen (plantation guide), was very knowledgeable and emotionally invested in her tour. She impressed me with her dignity. This was a highlight day!

We had an absolute blast! We thought we wouldn't see any wild alligators because of it being cold but we did!! Our tour guide was very knowledgable! I would highly recommend going on this tour!!

The swamp air boat ride was absolutely amazing and made our whole vacation, so the tour was worth doing just for that. The boat operator was fun and we even got to feed alligators. The plantation tour was informative but rather long and boring; plus, you don't get time to eat on the long tour. Our tour guide from Isabelle tours who drove us from to and from the boat ride and plantation was sweet but ADHD and all over the place. It was very confusing to try to follow her historical information as it was very disjointed and out of order chronologically. I recommend seeing Oak Alley or other plantations other than Destrehan if you go.

We were told that the van would pick us up at the hotel at 11:15. We didn't get pick up until almost 11:30. The van driver was friendly and knew a lot of stuff about New Orleans, which she told us on our drive out of the city, but she would keep going off-topic. _br/_ The plantation tour was interesting. The guide told us a lot of things that i will never remember. She was very knowledgable about the history of the owners and the plantation itself. After touring the house, we were left to wander the grounds for 20 more minutes until the van left again._br/_ I thought that riding in a 14-passenger air boat wouldn't be as much fun as a smaller boat, but it was. It started out slowly until the captain seemed to find his sense of humor. Then the fun started. We found a crocodile nest and a few crocs swimming. We tried catching one but it disappeared. The boats passed around a baby croc for us to hold. We also caught a few spiders and some sort of monster grasshopper. The 2 hour ride went by fast.

The Plantation Tour was not what we expected. Quite disappointing with the Plantation Guide. Would have been happy if we just went on the Airboat Ride - now that was an amazing experience! Gator spotting and the opportunity to feed one!

Could not have been better! Even though we got rained on while on the swamp we enjoyed the ride. When we arrived at the swamp tour we went over to the dock to wait on our tour guide and a alligator came swimming down to meet us. The plantation tour was very interesting.

This tour was the highlight of our gulf coast trip. It exceeded our expectations significantly. Our 12 year old son was hoping to see an alligator during the Airboat Ride. Little did he know he would be directly interacting with them! He fed raw chicken directly to 13 foot long 700 pound alligators and actually caught a baby in a net provided by the boat captain and handled it in the boat before returning it to the swamp. The Plantation Tours were also outstanding providing an excellent experience and learning opportunity.

The airboat ride was absolutely great and we could take some great pictures of alligators. Our guide knew their names and could even touch them. Can't tell anything about the plantation, because the hadn't enough people for this.

My wife had a fall while there, so I cancelled this trip by E-Mail on the Wednesday before. They telephoned on the Friday from my hotel asking where we were for the trip. I said that we had cancelled due to ill health._br/_ My credit card has still been charged for this trip, do I get a refund?
