2-Day Fraser Island 4WD Tour from Noosa or Rainbow Beach

Noosa, Australia

Discover the World Heritage-listed Fraser Island, the largest sand island in the world, on a two-day tour by 4WD from Noosa and the Sunshine Coast, or from Rainbow Beach. With its long, uninterrupted white beaches flanked by strikingly colored sand cliffs, freshwater lakes, ancient rainforests and a shipwreck coast, Fraser Island provides an unforgettable experience

Day 1: Noosa and the Sunshine Coast or Rainbow Beach- Fraser Island (L,D)
Your adventure begins with pickup from your Sunshine Coast accommodation in locations from Mooloolaba to Noosa. Travel by 4WD toward Cooloola National Park, a significant Aboriginal site and the gateway to Fraser Island.

Stop in Can Bay to see the wild dolphins, and have the opportunity to feed them (additional cost of AU$5 per person, to be paid locally). Please note: If you are being collected at Rainbow Beach, you will not have the opportunity to feed the dolphins.

Next, stop to collect fellow travelers at Rainbow Beach before boarding the ferry and crossing over to Fraser Island where you'll drive through beaches and rainforest before arriving at Seventy-Five Mile Beach. Your purpose-built 4WD Warrior allows great off-road access and has large windows, so you won’t miss a thing. Take a guided walk through Pile Valley with its towering trees, lush green ferns and streams, and continue on to Central Station, a former forestry township. Visit Lake McKenzie, one of 40 crystal-clear lakes, and swim in the blue water or relax on the pure white silica sand.

Enjoy a picnic lunch before traveling to your beach-side hotel at Happy Valley. The afternoon is free; spend it as you wish before meeting up for dinner.

Overnight: Happy Valley

Day 2: Fraser Island- Noosa (B,L)
Today, see the colored sands Rainbow Gorge, where the sand has been formed into volcano- like cones. Then experience the natural wonder of Eli Creek, the largest freshwater stream on the eastern coast of Fraser Island. More than 4 million liters of water flow from its mouth into the ocean every hour. Eli Creek is one of Fraser Island's most popular natural wonders. Take a walk along the scenic boardwalks to view the creek, or jump in the water and float down the fast-flowing stream into the mouth of the ocean.

Continue on to the Maheno shipwreck and discover the history of this once-luxurious passenger ship that now lies rusted and buried in the sand. Stop for a picnic lunch in the wilderness before continuing along the beach to the Pinnacles and Coloured Sands. See the multi-hued colored cliffs of the Cathedrals and the stunning panoramic views from Indian Head before returning to Rainbow Beach and then onto Noosa and the Sunshine Coast via the spectacular beach highway.

Really good tour, showing the main highlights of Fraser Island! The tour guide was always really friendly, funny and gave a lot of interesting information. It allowed enough time at the different stops to enjoy the area. The accommodation was also quite nice, but without aircon and no wifi. Mobile phone coverage is mainly with Telstra on the island, including where the accommodation is. Very happy overall with the tour!

We were a family of 3 all adults. Definitely not for the very young or elderly as its a fairly active tour. Lots of driving on the beach which was awesome - but not for all. Small tour approx. 20 people for 2 days which seems like just the right size. Our tour guide, Dave was excellent and had lots of facts about the island and wild life. We saw a few dingos and a sea snake. Overall a great trip and not to be missed.

Well organized trip with a lot of highlights on Fraser Islands as well as the Dolphins at Tin Can Bay._br/_ We could see several wild animals as well as beautiful lakes, sunrise, sunset and much more. The tour has a lot to offer, nevertheless we never had to rush from one place to another, instead could stay for a good amount of time e.g. at Lake McKenzie or Eli Creek.

Really good, tour guide was great. Would have been better to see a little more as we finished quite early in the afternoon - also a shame we were unable to go to the champagne pools

We picked this trip up from Rainbow Beach but the trip starts at Noosa which means you miss the first part. This also means that all the best seats are gone we had to sit at the back which is OK until you get to Fraser Island and then you spend most of the time catapulted off your seat with each bump. The trip is actually very good and our driver/guide was excellent. On the second day we grabbed better seats so was more enjoyable. We actually saw a dingo they are limited now on the island. Accommodation and meal was very good.

2 days is too long! Went with Discovery Adventures, encouraged by the itinerary and 4WD vehicle but unfortunatley, malfunctioning air-con in bus was a huge negative in an enclosed bus of 25 ish passengers and sweltering heat, driving along 75 mile beach. Ely Creek in heat of day with no shade, for 2-3 hours, was excessive. The sea is treacherous you can't swim or bathe here and the beach is a motorway. No dingos seen. No bird life except terns. Small planes on the beach will offer 10 min fly-overs, costly. Stayed at Happy Valley, accommodation was good and clean, Staff accommodating and friendly. Considering other package tours we did, we felt this was very overpriced and the actual itinerary was lack-lustre. Lake McKenzie is stunning but can be busy. Tip! Swim round to the smaller island on the left, far quieter : Not much shade so sun screen and hat essential! Wouldn't repeat this experience but was slightly redeemed by Lake McKenzie.

I loved everything about the tour! I was picked up on time by a very friendly tour guide, the accommodation shared was nice, there were plenty of stops and it felt like a Best of Fraser Island tour. I cannot say what was my highlight because there were so many!

Fraser Island is a trip that HAS to be done. It's beautiful, quiet, amazing island. You get to walk around, swim in lake mackenzie, see all kinds of animals in the ocean... If I could, I would have spent more time there. Highly recommend it!

This trip was amazing. Our driver/guide was brilliant and funny. He knew exactly where all the important bits where on Fraser Island, even down to certain trees in the forrest. The vehicle that they use is brilliant and far better than the cars you see other trips using. Accomodation was lovely, better than some of the hotels we had stayed in on the main land. highly recommend this to anyone thinking of booking the trip

Brilliant! I've done more than a few tours in Australia and Europe, and this was one of my favourites. Darren was a great guide, informative and entertaining, not to mention an excellent driver. Fraser is stunning, and accommodation took us all by surprise - Happy Valley cabins are all wood, comfy beds, and superbly clean. Seeing eagles, dingos, and even whales in a distance was an added bonus. Would do it again in a heartbeat.
