Pinnacles Desert, Koalas and Sandboarding 4WD Day Tour from Perth

Perth, Australia

Take an exciting full-day tour by coach to Western Australia's fascinating Pinnacles Desert. See koalas and other native animals at a wildlife park, have the option to enjoy a picnic lunch at the coastal town of Cervantes, take a guided walk through the Pinnacles, and go sandboarding and 4WD driving over the vast sand dunes of Lancelin.

After getting picked up at 8 a.m. by your driver-guide from your Perth hotel or another central meeting point, travel to Caversham Wildlife park where you have the chance to see koalas, wombats, and kangaroos. If you are lucky, you might also spot an albino kangaroo and a peacock.

Continue to the lobster fishing town of Cervantes and take a self guided audio tour of a live lobster processing plant. Watch a video presentation that gives you an insight into the industry then head for the factory's overhead walkway where you stand directly above 20 tons of live rock lobster. After the tour, enjoy a picnic lunch at the Lobster Shack with, if you choose, an optional lobster upgrade.

Next, head to the Nambung National Park. Covering 43,221 acres (17,491 hectares), the Nambung National Park is home to Western Australia's renowned Pinnacles Desert. Take a stroll through this eerie desert among the pinnacles, distinctive formations that are believed to have been created millions of years ago when seashells were broken down into sand and then eroded by water and wind. You will also have time to go and walk through the Pinnacles Desert Visitors Centre.

Heading south back toward Perth, making a stop at the small town of Lancelin to thrill to the adventure of 4WDing over massive white sand dunes, the biggest in Western Australia. Get your adrenaline pumping as you sandboard down these dunes spanning 1.2 miles (2 kilometers).

Relax on the swift and comfortable coach journey back to the city, arriving back at your preferred drop-off point in Perth at around 7:30pm.

I really enjoyed the Pinnacles trip, it is a long day but well worth it. The days itinerary is well documented when you book so there should be no surprises. My only concern with the Wildlife Park is that it does mainly cater for overseas tourists, being an interstate Aussie visitor i have seen kangaroos, koalas and wombats many times. Maybe a walk around other parts of the park could be provided.

The day was very hot and we were not offerered bottled water until after two hours, which they had all the time. Suggest that they give one bottle of water for each passenger from start at least on a hot day._br/_ Otherwise the service was fine, the visit at Caversham was a rush, the sandboarding so so. The highlight was the Pinnacles, but not to recommend on a hot day :_br/_ I liked the experience though, but would not do this a second time.

Very various and impressive full day tour in a middle sized tour bus, specialy adapted to drive through the sand dunes. We startet by a lovely photo shooting in the Caversham Wildlife Park Koalas, Wombat, then an instructive self-guided tour at the Lobster Shack with fish-lunch, amazing walk through the Pinnacles Desert and finally the absolutly impressive drive in the sand dunes near Lancelin with the funy and crazy sandboarding. Great guide and we got good and a lot of informations. Everywhere we had enough time, no need to hurry. Don't miss!!

The Pinnacles Desert is simply amazing, and the highlight of the tour is the ride on the 4WD on the beautiful white sand dunes!_br/_ Sandboarding on the white sand dunes is a lot of fun too, definitely worth while to go on this tour.

really fun. Experienced tour guide with detailed commentary and he is very knowledgeable and friendly too. Although the visiting of Caversham Wildlife Park is a bit quick and not much free time you will get. You can still take photo shots with some animals there. but treasure the rare photo taking chance, only allows 1-2 shots The lobster comes with chips and they are tasty. Sandboarding is super fun, play as much as you can while taking pictures at the background.

Very interesting visit to the wild life park. Lovely koalas. Pinnacles were infested with flies.

We almost get lost in the Pinnacles! Without a very clear guide for us which part is worth to walk within less than an hour limit. The couches arrangement is poor. couch came late, mixed up the people which couch should the driver need to take and overall waste a lot of time to figure out the groups

Good Tour but long long rides to get to._br/_ Best part was definitely with the animals

Lovely tour although long ride, but you can view many interesting areas. Watching Koalas in Zoo and even being able to touch them or Wombat- an experience. At Pinnacles you have approximately 1-1.5h to explore Information Desk and location itself on yourself, you can walk nearly endlessly to catch lovely snaps...._br/_ Going in special jeep adjusted to circumstances, around 12-15 people fit in, type of desert safari, is about 30min and compared to experience in Dubai, less challenging, but good fun. This is followed by some time on sandboarding on dunes, good fun for some 30min

Me and my wife spent a fantastic day doing the Pinnacles Desert, Koalas and Sandboarding 4WDTour on 20th Jan 2017. We had for company a great bunch of fellow visitors and a superb guide Andrew. His skills in driving the 4WD vehicle up and down the sand dunes is simply unbelievable and his commentaries is informative. The Pinnacles Desert is truly a natural wonder, simply breathtaking. Also included was a side stop to view and take pics of the great Indian Ocean. Not forgetting the short visit to Caversham Wildlife Park and a tour cum lunch tour of the Lobster Shack. Sandboarding down the sand dunes at 60.. yes you too can do it!

It was a great time. Short stay at the animal park and then a long drive to the next stop. Nap time. Lobster lunch was ok. Pinnacles were very interesting and amazing how vast the area is. Next stop sand dunes. Pretty amazing the big vehicle we were in was able to travel through the dunes. Sandboarding was fun but the windy weather made it uncomfortable blowing sand in your face. Our driver, Ian, was very knowledgeable, courteous and helpful. He did a great job.

Was a great trip. Excellent driver and guide all in one. My most comfortable seats on a coach that helps when using 4WD on the sand dunes. It worth what you paid for! Highly recommended.

There was a lot of time spent on the bus, but we went places that our family would not have driven to otherwise. My teenagers really enjoyed the sandboarding.

We were picked up at a convenient location. The bus was spacious and clean. I later discovered that it was to be out 4WD on the sand dunes too. It was exhilarating. A comfortable ride throughout with a knowledgeable guide. I thoroughly enjoyed myself.

Definitely a tour to be considered if you have limited days to be spent in Perth. The basic 'must-dos' can be ticked off from the list if you undertake this tour. Our tour guide was very pleasant and friendly - he shared with us information on Australia throughout the journey. :

This was a day packed with awesome activities. The first stop was Caversham Wildlife Park where we got to see kangaroos, koalas, and a wombat. It was sadly a short stop but the staff and the animals were awesome. Next was a tour and lunch at The Lobster Shack. The tour was interesting and I got the upgrade to the lobster lunch. The lobster itself was delicious but sadly the chips and lobster cakes didn't come with any aioli or ketchup or anything so it was pretty dry. Most disappointing part of the day honestly. The Pinnacles were our next stop - a unique geological feature. Then we went for a drive on the sand dunes followed by sandboarding. Keith was an amazing driver and a great sandboarding instructor as well. It was an experience I won't forget. The day ended with Keith dropping me off convenient to my hotel. The day was long but for somebody that didn't have a lot of time to spend in Perth, it was perfect.

One of my favorite tours I've done. Not just the Pinnacles, but feeding the kangaroos, petting koalas, eating lobster, huge white sand dunes, great. The tour is a little long, but that is because you have a lot of ground to cover. Knowledgeable tour guide/bus driver.

Review by:   Benjamin L,    May 2016 Review: 3 star rating: Worth doing
the tour overall was good.. but the transport was a little disappointing.. the tour guide was rather quiet and dull.. making the long journey to the pinnacles boring. on top of that, the air conditioning in the bus was set to minimum with the heater or something like that on? the side of the bus seems to have heat coming out, im not sure what that is.. making the bus stuffy. so bottom line, the tour sites were great, but the ride there and back was kinda horrible. cheers

This trip was very good. The guide was knowledgable. I would have liked more time at Pinnacles in stead of the sand boarding. It would have been nice to have a few 5-10 minute stops for photos of scenery

A full day with a brief stop at Caversham Wildlife Park followed by a visit to the Lobster Shack for lunch._br/_ The Pinnacles were amazing and plenty of time allowed to wander around and go to the visitors centre. _br/_ It was fun driving over the sand dunes and trying sandboarding. A very long day but worth it.

With so many activities in such a short amount of time, some of the day felt a bit rushed. Each place left us wanting to come back for a longer visit. Tour guide was friendly and helpful. Would definitely recommend if your time in WA is limited.

It is a long day but the Pinnacles desert and the park are worth a visit. The driver / guide was great. But the time spent at the lobster shack is not certainly in the spirit of seeing the beautiful outdoors of Western Australia. The company should probably offer extended time outdoors rather than a lobster lunch.

The tour was very interesting. The driver Peter was very good and he gave us very good explanations. However too much rush or too much time for nothing. At the Caversham Wildlife park we spend only 35 minutes and 10 minutes just to allow people to get a photo with a Wombat. I would have prefer to see other animals like dingo, instead._br/_ The stop at Caversham was useless. A part the lunch there, WE HAD ONLY THE VIDEO PRESENTATION, 10 minutes video and we did not see any onlive process. The beach is not very nice, so a long stop did not make too much sense_br/_ The Pinnacles Desert was fantastic as well as the adventure of 4WD-ing over large white sand dunes.

Ambitious tour that covers a lot but also that means you don't have much time in each stop. Highlight of the tour was the Lancelin sand dunes.

Nice guide cum driver. The whole itinerary is good. I will recommend this tour to my friends! Only thing to feedback is the carpet in the coach needs to be change regularly as the smell will comes up when the carpet is wet.
